1 SonicWall® SuperMassive 9800 DC Power
Supply Conversion and Replacement
The SonicWall® SuperMassive 9800 is shipped in an AC mains configuration with
standard three conductor appliance couplers and an AC power cord. This
document provides instructions for converting AC to DC and for replacing a
defective DC power supply in your SonicWall® SuperMassive 9800 network
security appliance.
The DC mains cable is different and is supplied with the DC power supply. The DC
mains connector uses terminal posts with the polarity marked.
Prerequisites
• Read all Safety and Regulatory Information in the SonicWall® SuperMassive
9800 Getting Started Guide provided with your SonicWall® SuperMassive
9800. Those requirements still apply with a DC conversion.
• To disconnect the DC power, an external, properly-rated, disconnect device
must be provided by the building or the rack installation. The disconnect
device must be readily accessible.
• A suitably-rated and approved DC circuit breaker should be provided as part of
the building installation. Follow local code when purchasing materials or
components.
• Reliable grounding of rack-mounted equipment must be maintained.
• Overcurrent Protection: This equipment shall be provided with a suitably
Listed DC circuit breaker or a Listed DC fuse, in the building installation supply
circuit.
• DC rating includes tolerances. Do not operate the product outside of the
ranges shown on the product label.
WARNING: Do not connect an AC configured product to a DC mains, and do not
connect a DC configured product to AC. The SonicWall® SuperMassive 9800
must be configured as either all DC or all AC. Do not mix AC and DC power
supplies in the same chassis.
WARNING: The SonicWall appliance must be powered off and both power cords
removed to convert from AC to DC power supplies.
Removing the Power Supply from the
Appliance
When converting from AC to DC power, both AC power supplies must be replaced.
To remove an AC or DC power supply:
1 For an appliance with AC power supplies, remove both AC power cords.
2 To replace a defective DC power supply, remove any external power sources
from the power supply module that is being replaced.
3 Loosen the retaining thumbscrew of the #3 fan module with your fingers or a
Phillips (cross) screwdriver if necessary. Open the fan’s arm to expose the
power supply’s locking mechanism.
4 Remove both of the retaining screws from the locking mechanism and set
them aside.
5 Taking note of the power supply orientation as it relates to the appliance,
suppress the power supply release tab while using the module’s handle to pull
the module outwards to remove it.
6 If converting from AC to DC, repeat this procedure to remove the second AC
power supply.
WARNING: The appliance must be completely powered off.
WARNING: Power supply surfaces can be hot. Handle and store with care until
the surfaces are cool.
Installing a DC Power Supply into the Appliance
To install a new SuperMassive 9800 DC :
1 Insert the new power supply module using the orientation you noted when
you removed the AC or defective module, pushing the power supply module in
firmly until it is completely seated and snaps into place.
2 Replace the metal locking mechanism arm and secure it with its retaining
screws.
3 Return the fan retaining bracket across the fan module and tighten the
retaining screw to securely fasten the bracket.
4 Connect the supplied DC power cable to DC mains and ground.
• Black (RTN)
• Yellow (-48)
• Green/Yellow to ground screw next to terminal block).
5 Apply the new label provided with the DC power supply kit over the AC label
as shown in the following image.
WARNING: Do NOT insert anything except the SuperMassive 9800 DC into
the appliance

6 Turn on the appliance. Confirm that the new power supply is operating
correctly. On the front panel, the LED indicator for the power supply should
display a blue light. A yellow light indicates a problem. Powering up
instructions are also provided in the SonicWall® SuperMassive 9800 Getting
Started Guide.
2 Conversion et remplacement du bloc

Conditions préalables
• Lisez attentivement toutes les consignes de sécurité et informations sur la

SuperMassive 9800. Ces exigences s'appliquent toujours avec une conversion

baie installée doit être muni d'un dispositif de déconnexion externe de
puissance nominale appropriée. Le dispositif de déconnexion doit être
facilement accessible.
• L'installation électrique du bâtiment doit être munie d'un disjoncteur CC
homologué et de puissance nominale appropriée. Suivez le code local en
vigueur lors de l'achat de matériaux ou de composants.
• Il est impératif d'assurer une mise à la terre fiable et constante de
l'équipement monté en bâti.
• Protection contre les surintensités : Cet équipement requiert un disjoncteur
CC certifié ou un fusible CC certifié faisant partie du circuit d'alimentation
électrique du bâtiment.
• Les valeurs nominales CC comprennent les tolérances. N'utilisez pas le produit

Retrait du bloc d'alimentation de l'appareil
Lorsque vous convertissez une alimentation CA en alimentation CC, les deux blocs
d'alimentation CA doivent être remplacés.
Pour retirer un bloc d'alimentation CA ou CC :
1 Pour un appareil muni de deux blocs d'alimentation CA, retirez les deux
cordons d'alimentation CA.
2 Pour remplacer un bloc d'alimentation CC défectueux, débranchez toute
source électrique externe du module d'alimentation à remplacer.
3 Desserrez la vis de fixation moletée du module de ventilation n
o
3 avec vos
doigts ou à l'aide d'un tournevis cruciforme. Ouvrez le bras de retenue du
ventilateur pour exposer le mécanisme de verrouillage du bloc d'alimentation.
4 Enlevez les deux vis de fixation du mécanisme de verrouillage et mettez-les de
côté.
AVERTISSEMENT : l'appareil doit être mis entièrement hors tension.
AVERTISSEMENT : Les surfaces du bloc d'alimentation peuvent être chaudes.
Manipulez et entreposez l'appareil avec soin jusqu'à ce que les surfaces soient
froides.
5 En prenant soin de noter l'orientation du bloc d'alimentation par rapport à
l'appareil, enfoncez la languette de dégagement du bloc d'alimentation tout
en tirant la poignée du module vers l'extérieur pour sortir ce dernier de
l'appareil.
6 Dans le cas d'une conversion d'une alimentation CA en alimentation CC,
répétez cette procédure pour retirer le second bloc d'alimentation CA.
Installation d'un bloc d'alimentation CC dans
l'appareil
Pour installer un nouveau SuperMassive 9800 DC :
1 Insérez le nouveau module d'alimentation dans le sens noté lors du retrait du
module d'alimentation CA ou du module défectueux en le poussant
fermement jusqu'à ce qu'il soit complètement inséré et qu'il s'enclenche en
place.
2 Replacez le bras en métal du mécanisme de verrouillage et fixez-le avec ses vis
de fixation.
3 Replacez la ferrure de retenue du ventilateur contre le module de ventilation
et serrez la vis de fixation pour fixer fermement la ferrure.
4 Branchez le câble d'alimentation CC fourni sur l'alimentation CC et sur la mise
à la terre.
• Noir (RTN)
• Jaune (-48)
• Vert/jaune à la vis de mise à la terre située à côté du bornier de
connexion.
5 Collez la nouvelle étiquette fournie dans le kit du bloc d'alimentation CC par-
dessus l'étiquette CA, comme le montre l'image ci-contre.
6 Allumez l'appareil. Vérifiez que le nouveau bloc d'alimentation fonctionne
correctement. Le voyant DEL de l'alimentation électrique situé sur le panneau
avant devrait être allumé en bleu. Un voyant jaune indique un problème. Vous
trouverez également des instructions de mise sous tension dans le Guide de
prise en main du SonicWall® SuperMassive 9800.
