Thank you for purchasing the UPS-RBP. The UPS-RBP is a hot-swappable (for qualified service
personnel) replacement battery pack for the UPS-1000R and UPS-2200R Series Rackmount UPS.
Please read this manual thoroughly before installing this product.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT
Safety Precautions
CAUTION! Make sure everything is turned off and AC power is disconnected completely before
conducting any maintenance, battery replacement, repairs, or shipment.
CAUTION! Only use replacement batteries which are certified by Middle Atlantic Products. Use of
incorrect battery type is an electrical hazard that could lead to explosion, fire, electric shock, or short
circuit.
CAUTION! Batteries contain an electrical charge that can cause severe burns. Before servicing
batteries, please remove any conductive materials such as jewelry, chains, wrist watches, and rings.
CAUTION! Do not open or mutilate the batteries. Electrolyte fluid is harmful to the skin/eyes and may
be toxic.
CAUTION! To avoid electric shock, turn off and unplug the UPS from the wall receptacle before
servicing the battery.
CAUTION! Only use tools with insulated handles. Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of the UPS or
battery terminals.

Please read and follow the Safety Precautions before servicing the battery. Battery replacement should be
performed by trained personnel who are familiar with the procedures and safety precautions. Make a note of
the replacement Battery tray number.
After the product is removed from its shipping carton, inspect the Battery Pack before installing and
operating. The shipping carton should contain the following items:
UPS Battery Pack, Installation Instructions, and (3x) M3 x 6 Battery Retainer Screws
NOTE:
• Batteries are considered hazardous waste and must be disposed of properly. Contact your local
government for more information about proper disposal and recycling of batteries. Do not dispose of
batteries in fire.
• Middle Atlantic Products encourages environmentally sound methods for disposal and recycling of
its UPS products. Please dispose and/or recycle your UPS and batteries in accordance to the local
regulations of your state.
• Contact technical support at 1-800-266-7225 for more information about Middle Atlantic Product’s
Battery Replacement Program.
• Both UPS-1000R Series and UPS-2200R Series contain hot-swappable battery packs. Hot-swappable
is the ability to replace a battery pack without switching line power off.
• Do not replace battery when UPS is working in battery mode, as this will cause power to be lost and
may cause damage to connected equipment.
To check if UPS is in battery mode, look at the display. If the UPS is operating in battery mode the
“BATTERY” icon appears in the LCD window. See the following circled example.

2. Remove the UPS front panel by removing the six screws and pulling it away from the unit.
1. Power off the unit and disconnect it from its AC power source.
3. Remove the retaining screws securing the cable protection cover to the UPS and remove the cover.
NOTE: For qualified service personnel, the battery is hot swappable. Non-qualified service person-
nel are strongly urged to follow the first step to power off the unit and disconnect it from its AC
power source.
4. Disconnect the cable connectors from each other.

5. Remove three battery retaining screws (2 on left side, and 1 on the right side) and pull the
battery out using the handle while supporting battery pack from underneath to prevent battery from
falling. (The battery pack is heavy and caution should be taken when removing and replacing it.)
6. Insert replacement battery and perform steps in reverse using (3) replacement screws
supplied with battery pack. Recharge battery for 4-8 hours to ensure UPS performs expected runtime.

OPTIONAL EXTERNAL BATTERY CONNECTION
Both UPS-1000R and UPS-2200R Series models feature a connector that accepts an optional
external battery pack (part number: UPS-EBPR, sold separately) that provides additional runtime.
The external battery packs can be series connected up to a maximum of 10 battery packs in order to
provide additional UPS runtime.
