THE QUEEN OF USEFUL COMPLICATIONS

Introduced in 1996 and patented by Patek

Philippe, the Annual Calendar is the ﬁrst time-

keeping mechanism that automatically displays

the month, the day of the week, and the correct

date under consideration of months with 30 and

31 days, so it must be adjusted only once a year on

March 1. Its construction represented a formidable

challenge. To eliminate rockers and levers to the

greatest possible extent, Patek Philippe’s engineers

designed an architecture that relies mostly on

wheels and pinions. The caliber 324 S QA LU move-

ment consists of 328 parts (355 for the 324 S IRM

QA LU), whereas a conventional perpetual calen-

dar with a moon-phase display needs only about

280 components. In the meantime, the convenient,

well-organized, and user-friendly Patek Philippe

Annual Calendar is available in various versions

with different sets of displays. They constitute a

collection of timepieces that combine unique

functionality with timeless beauty. The calendar

indications are complemented by an extremely

precise moon-phase display that deviates from the

true lunar cycle by only one day every 122 years.

The self-winding models that incorporate the

caliber 324 S IRM QA LU movement feature a

power-reserve indicator at 12 o’clock.

The winding crown is used to wind the watch

(position 1) and to set the time (position 2).

Your watch has a self-winding movement. The

movements of your wrist set a rotor in motion; this

tensions the mainspring which stores the energy.

Off the wrist, your watch has a power reserve of at

least 35 hours. When it has stopped after depleting

the power reserve, it can be rewound by hand (about

10 clockwise turns of the crown). Please wind the

watch before you put it on. This way, you can avoid

lateral pressure on the winding stem which in the

course of the years could damage the stem tube.

setting the time

To set the time, pull the crown out, and turn it in

either direction. When you turn the hands clock-

wise beyond midnight, the calendar displays will

advance as well. We advise against turning the

hands counterclockwise across midnight because

this would desynchronize the calendar displays;

however, it would not damage the calendar

mechanism.

Caution: Please set the time before you put the watch on.

This prevents lateral pressure on the winding stem. Please

use your ﬁngernails to pull the crown out and turn it gently

between two ﬁngertips.

Never pull out the crown in a humid environment or underwa-

ter: the water resistance of your watch is assured only when

the crown is pushed home.

The date change mechanism is active between

8 p.m. and 2 a.m. whereas the moon phase switches

between 9 and 11 a.m. During these time intervals,

do not use the correction push pieces to adjust the

calendar indications or the moon-phase display.

You can be sure that performing adjustments is

safe if you ﬁrst set your watch to 6 a.m. as follows;

advance the hands beyond midnight (the date will

change, otherwise, it was 12 noon) and then keep

advancing the hands to 6 a.m.

If your watch has stopped running, rewind it by

hand before performing any corrections or adjust-

ments (about 10 clockwise turns of the crown).

Correction push pieces should be actuated exclu-

sively with the correction stylus that was delivered

with the watch. The use of any other tool could

damage your timepiece.

Proceed as follows to correct the date:

1. MAKE SURE to set the date to the ﬁrst day of

the month.

2. First, correct the month with the push piece at

2 o’clock as described below.

3. Then, correct the date by repeatedly actuating

the push piece at 4 o’clock until the current

date is displayed.

month correction

To correct the month, actuate the correction push

piece at 2 o’clock as many times as needed to

display the current month.

day of week correction

To correct the day of the week, actuate the push

piece at 10 o’clock as often as needed to display

the correct day.

moon-phase correction

The moon-phase display advances in the morn-

ing. Its mechanism is active between 9 and 11 a.m.

Each time the push piece at 8 o’clock is actuated,

the moon-phase disk will advance by one day.

To begin the correction procedure, advance the

moon-phase disk until a full moon is displayed

in the middle of the aperture. Consult a moon-

phase calendar or visit www.patek.com (click

on › Collection › Movements-Complications › The

moonphase indicator) to ﬁnd out how many days

have elapsed since the last full moon (including the

day on which you correct the display). To correctly

set the moon-phase display, press the push piece as

many times as the number of days that have elapsed

since the last full moon.

OF YOUR WATCH

certificate of origin

Your watch is delivered with a certiﬁcate of origin

that indicates the movement and case numbers.

The certiﬁcate is valid only if it is dated, signed by

an Authorized Patek Philippe Retailer, and com-

pleted with your name. It guarantees the authen-

ticity of your watch and validates your warranty

privileges for a period of two years after the date

of sale. The unique movement and case numbers of

each watch are transcribed into the workshop jour-

nals. With this information, you may have yourself

entered in the Patek Philippe Register of Owners

and will obtain the International Patek Philippe Magazine

free of charge.
