COOKTOP USE- KFGS MODEL COOKTOPS
Fire Hazard
Do not let the burner flame extend beyond the edge of
the pan.
Turn off all controls when not cooking.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death
or fire.
IMPORTANT: Your cooktop is factory-set for use with Natural
Gas. If you wish to use LP Gas, an LP Gas Conversion Kit is
included with your new cooktop. See the instructions included
with the LP Gas Conversion Kit for details on making this
conversion.
Electric igniters automatically light the surface burners when
control knobs are turned to Lite.
The large burners (10,000, 12,000 and 18,000 Btu/h [British
Thermal Units] on 36" [91.4 cm] models and 9,100, 10,000 and
15,000 Btu/h on 30" [76.2 cm] models) provide the highest heat
setting, and are ideal for cooking large quantities of food or liquid,
using large pots and pans. The small burners, 6,000 and
7,000 Btu/h and the inner crown of the central burner allow more
accurate simmer control at the lowest setting, and are ideal for
cooking smaller quantities of food, using smaller pots and pans.
Before setting a control knob, place filled cookware on the grate.
Do not operate a burner while using empty cookware or without
any cookware on the grate.
NOTE: Visually check that the burner has lit. If the burner does
not ignite, listen for a clicking sound. Ifyou do not hear the igniter
click, turn off the burner. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or
blown household fuse.
Check that the control knob is pressed completely down on the
valve shaft. If the spark igniter still does not operate, call atrained
repair specialist.
Proper grounding and polarity are necessary for correct operation
of the electric ignition system. If the wall receptacle does not
provide correct polarity, the igniters will become grounded and
occasionally click, even after the burner has ignited. Contact a
trained repair specialist to check the wall receptacle to see
whether it is wired with the correct polarity.
Re-Ignition Feature
During the cooking cycle, if one or more burners power off due to
external causes (such as water spillage, wind, distorted flame,
etc.), the ignition system will turn on to re-ignite the flame. When
the flame comes back on, the system will stop sparking.
Sparking may also occasionally occur when using the low setting
on a burner.
Power Failure
In case of prolonged power failure, the surface burners can be lit
manually. Hold a lit match near a burner and turn knob
counterclockwise to LITE. After burner lights, turn knob to
setting. Do not use a grill or griddle accessory during a power
failure, as the vent fan will not operate.
To Light:
1. Push in and turn knob counterclockwise to LITE.
All surface burners will click. Only the burner with the control
knob turned to Lite will produce a flame.
2. Turn knob to anywhere between HI and LO. Use the following
chart as a guide when setting heat levels.
SETTING RECOMMENDED USE
Lite Light the burner.
Hi Start food cooking.
Bring liquid to a boil.
Medium Fry or saute foods.
Between Hi and Lo
Maintain a slow boil.
Cook soups, sauces and gravies.
Stew or steam foods.
Simmer Simmer

lock. The Cooktop Lock indicator light will turn on and a long

To unlock the cooktop, turn all control knobs to the Off position,
the Cooktop Lock indicator light will turn off. Before restarting,
check that the burners are clean. See "Sealed Surfaces Burners"
section. You may then continue cooking.
Cooktop Lock
The Cooktop Lock helps to avoid unintended use of the surface
burners. If a control knob is turned to Lite when the Cooktop
Lock is on, you will hear clicking and you may see the igniter
sparking, but the burner will not light.
To activate:
Turn off all burners and touch the lock key for 3 seconds. When
the Cooktop Lock activates, the Cooktop Lock Indicator Light will
turn on and 1 long beep will sound.
To deactivate:
Touch the lock key for 3 seconds, the indicator light will turn off
and 1 long beep will sound.
Tones
Tones are audible signals, indicating the following:
One Long Beep
Activation/deactivation of the Cooktop Lock function
Three Short Beeps
Invalid operation - attempting to lock or unlock the cooktop
with 1 or more burners are on.
Hot Surface Indicator Light
The Hot Surface Indicator Light is located between the left front
and center control knobs. The Hot Surface Indicator Light will
glow as long as any surface cooking area is too hot to touch,
even after the surface cooking area(s) is turn off.
If the cooktop is on when a power failure occurs, the Hot Surface
Indicator Lights will remain on after the power is restored to the
cooktop. They will remain on until the cooktop has cooled
completely.
After a power failure, when the power failure is restored the Hot
Surface Indicator Light can stay on for up to 30 minutes
Times when this is most likely to occur:
After the cooktop is first installed.
After a power failure.
After a power failure while the cooktop is still cooling (30 to
40 minutes after cooking).
Any time power is disconnected from the cooktop.
Power Failure
Cooktop will not operate during a power failure.
To Light:
1. Push in and turn knob counterclockwise to LITE.
All surface burners will click. Only the burner with the control
knob turned to Lite will produce a flame.
2. Turn knob to anywhere between HI and LO. Use the following
chart as a guide when setting heat levels.

ventilation air around the burner grate edges,
Burner cap: Always keep the burner cap in place when using a
surface burne£ A clean burner cap will help avoid poor ignition
and uneven flames. Always clean the burner cap after a spillover
and routinely remove and clean the caps according to the
"General Cleaning" section,

Gas tube opening: Gas must flow freely throughout the gas tube
opening for the burner to light properly. Keep this area free of soil
and do not allow spills, food, cleaning agents or any other
material to enter the gas tube opening. Keep spillovers out of the
gas tube by always using a burner cap.

Burner ports: Check burner flames occasionally for proper size
and shape as shown above. A good flame is blue in color, not
yellow. Keep this area free of soil and do not allow spills, food,
cleaning agents or any other material to enter the burner ports.
To Clean:
IMPORTANT: Before cleaning, make sure all controls are off and
the cooktop is cool. Do not use oven cleaners, bleach or rust
removers,
1. Remove the burner cap from the burner base and clean
according to "General Cleaning" section,
2. Clean the gas tube opening with a damp cloth,
3. Clean clogged burner ports with a straight pin as shown. Do
not enlarge or distort the port. Do not use a wooden
toothpick or clean in dishwasher. If the burner needs to be
adjusted, contact a trained repair specialist,

4. Gently clean igniter with a damp cloth.
5. Replace the burner cap, making sure that it is properly
aligned and centered with the burner base.

6. Gently clean igniter, including over and under the edge of the
metal cap and base with a damp cloth.
7. Reassemble center burner. Align the locater pin with the
locater hole in the outer burner cap to ensure proper
assembly.
When canning for long periods, alternate the use of surface
burners between batches. This allows time for the most recently
used areas to cool.
Center the canner on the grate.
Do not place canner on 2 surface burners at the same time.

products can also offer assistance.

NOTE: The brass parts of the center burner will change color
with use. This is normal.

Surface Grates
Position burner grate feet in the round grooves at the front and
back of the cooktop. The position of the feet on each burner
grate is different to ensure proper placement.

Locater pins and matching grooves are also located on each
burner grate to ensure proper placement.
IMPORTANT: Do not leave empty cookware on a hot surface
cooking area, element or surface burner.
Ideal cookware should have a flat bottom, straight sides, and a
well-fitting lid and the material should be of medium-to-heavy
thickness.
Rough finishes may scratch the cooktop. Aluminum and copper
may be used as a core or base in cookware. However, when used
as a base they can leave permanent marks on the cooktop or
grates.
Cookware material is afactor in how quickly and evenly heat is
transferred, which affects cooking results. A nonstick finish has
the same characteristics as its base material. For example,
aluminum cookware with a nonstick finish will take on the
properties of aluminum.
Use the following chart as a guide for cookware material
characteristics.

COOKTOP CARE

IMPORTANT: Before cleaning, make sure all controls are off and
the cooktop is cool. Always follow label instructions on cleaning
products.
Soap, water and a soft cloth or sponge are suggested first unless
otherwise noted.
STAINLESS STEEL
To avoid damage to the stainless steel finish, do not use soap-
filled scouring pads, abrasive cleaners, Cooktop Polishing
Creme, steel-wool pads, gritty washcloths or some paper towels.
Cleaning Method:
Rub in direction of grain to avoid damaging.

Liquid detergent or all-purpose cleaner:
Rinse with clean water and dry with soft, lint-free cloth.
Vinegar for hard water spots.
COOKTOP CONTROLS
To avoid damage to the cooktop controls, do not use steel wool,
abrasive cleansers or oven cleaner.
Do not soak knobs.
Do not clean knobs in dishwasher.
When replacing knobs, make sure knobs are in the Off position.
Do not remove seals under knobs.
Cleaning Method:

Pull knobs straight away from control panel to remove.
CONTROL PAN EL
To avoid damage to control panel, do not use abrasive cleaners,
steel-wool pads, gritty washcloths or some paper towels.
Cleaning Method:
Glass cleaner and soft cloth or sponge:
GLASS CONTROL AREA (on some models)
To avoid damage to glass, do not use steel wool, abrasive
powder cleansers, chlorine bleach, rust remover or ammonia.
Cleaning Method:
Always wipe with a clean, wet cloth or sponge and dry thoroughly
to avoid streaking and staining.
Liquid detergent, glass cleaner or all-purpose cleaner and
soft cloth or sponge:
Apply liquid detergent, glass cleaner or all-purpose cleaner to
soft cloth or sponge, not directly on panel.
PORCELAIN-COATED GRATES AND CAPS
Food spills containing acids, such as vinegar and tomato, should
be cleaned as soon as the cooktop, grates and caps are cool.
These spills may affect the finish.
To avoid chipping, do not bang grates and caps against each
other or hard surfaces such as cast iron cookware.
Do not reassemble caps on burners while wet.
Do not clean in the Self-Cleaning cycle.
Do not clean in dishwasher.
Cleaning Method:
Nonabrasive plastic scrubbing pad and mildly abrasive
cleanser:
Clean as soon as cooktop, grates and caps are cool.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Try the solutions suggested here first in order to avoid the cost of an unnecessary service call.
Nothing will operate
Electrical Shock Hazard
Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.
Do not remove ground prong.
Do not use an adapter.
Do not use an extension cord,
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death,
fire, or electrical shock.
Is the power supply cord unplugged?
Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.
Has a household fuse blown, or has a circuit breaker
tripped?
Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. Ifthe problem
continues, call an electrician.
Is the cooktop properly connected to the gas supply?
Contact a service technician or see Installation Instructions.
Surface burner flames are uneven, yellow and/or noisy
Are the burner ports clogged?
See "Sealed Surface Burners" section.
On models with caps, are the burner caps positioned
properly?
See "Sealed Surface Burners" section.
Is propane gas being used?
The cooktop may have been converted improperly. Contact a
service technician or see "Assistance or Service" section,
Surface burner makes popping noises
Is the burner wet or dirty?
Clean and/or let the burner dry.
Cooktop is making a low level hum
Even when the cooktop is not in use, the cooktop may create a
low level hum that may be noticed in very quiet environments.
This noise is a normal function of the cooktop.
Hot surface indicator light on when the cooktop is cool
Is this the first time the cooktop has been plugged in or
has there been a power failure?
The hot surface indicator can stay on up to 30 minutes. See
"Hot Surface Indicator Light" section in the "Cooktop
Controls" section.
Surface burners will not operate
Is this the first time the surface burners have been used?
Turn on any one of the surface burner knobs to release air
from the gas lines.
On some models, is the cooktop lock activated?
To deactivate, touch the lock key for 3 seconds.
Is the control knob set correctly?
Push in knob before turning to a setting.
Are the burner ports clogged?
See "Sealed Surface Burners" section.
Is the main gas shutoff valve in the off position?
See the Installation Instructions.
Excessive heat around cookware on cooktop
Is the cookware the proper size?
Use cookware about the same size as the surface cooking

pour I'alimentation au gaz naturel. Si vous souhaitez utiliser du
gaz propane, une trousse de conversion au gaz propane est
fournie avec la table de cuisson. Voir les instructions incluses
avec la trousse de conversion au gaz propane pour des details
sur la realisation de cette conversion.
Des allumeurs electriques allument automatiquement les brOleurs
de surface Iorsque les boutons de commande sont tournes &
LITE (allumage).
Les grands brQleurs (10 000, 12 000 et 18 000 BTU/h [unites
thermiques britanniques] sur les modeles de 36" [91,4 cm] et
9 100, 10 000 et 15 000 BTU/h sur les modeles de 30" [76,2 cm])
fournissent le reglage de chaleur le plus eleve et sent ideals pour
faire cuire de grandes quantites d'aliments ou de liquides, en
utilisant de grandes marmites et casseroles. Les petits brQleurs
6 000 et 7 000 BTU/h et la couronne interne du brQleur central
permettent une commande de mijotage plus precise au reglage
le plus bas, et sont ideals pour la cuisson de plus petites
quantites d'aliments, en utilisant des ustensiles plus petits.
Avant de regler un bouton de commande, placer I'ustensile de
cuisson rempli sur la grille. Ne pas faire fonctionner un brQleur

La liaison a la terre et la polarite appropriees sont necessaires
pour le ben fonctionnement du systeme d'allumage electrique. Si
la prise de courant murale ne fournit pas la polarite correcte, les
allumeurs deviendront relies a la terre et pourront
occasionnellement emettre un declic, m_me apres I'allumage du
brQleur. Faire verifier la prise murale par un technicien de
reparation qualifie pour voir si la polarite du c&blage est correcte.

Caract6ristique de r6allumage
Pendant le programme de cuisson, si un ou plusieurs brOleurs
s'eteignent a cause d'elements externes (comme de I'eau
renversee, du vent, une flamme deform6e, etc.), le systeme
d'allumage se met en marche pour reallumer la flamme. Lorsque
la fiamme apparaTt de nouveau, le systeme cesse de g6nerer des
etincelles.
La gen6ration d'etincelles peut se produire occasionnellement
Iors de I'utilisation d'un brQleur au reglage Lo (bas).
Panne de courant
En cas de panne de courant prolongee, les brQleurs de surface
peuvent _tre allumes manuellement. Tenir une allumette allumee
pres d'un brQleur et tourner le bouton dans le sens antihoraire &
LITE (allumage). Une fois le brQleur allume, tourner le bouton au
reglage desir& Ne pas utiliser de gril ou de plaque & frire pendant
une coupure de courant, le ventilateur d'evacuation ne
fonctionnerait pas.
R6glage :
1. Pousser et tourner le bouton dans le sens antihoraire a LITE
(allumage).
Tousles brQleurs de surface emettront un declic. Seul le
brQleur dent le bouton de commande est tourne & LITE
(allumage) produira une flamme.
2. Tourner le bouton n'importe o(4entre HI (eleve) et LO (bas).
Utiliser le tableau suivant comme guide Iors du reglage des
niveaux de chaleur.

brQleur. Faire verifier la prise murale par un technicien de
reparation qualifie pour voir si la polarite du c&blage est correcte.
Caract6ristique de r6allumage
Pendant le programme de cuisson, si un ou plusieurs breleurs
s'eteignent a cause d'elements externes (comme de I'eau
renversee, du vent, etc.), le syst_me d'allumage se met en
marche pour reallumer la flamme. Lorsque la fiamme apparait de

Si la flamme ne reapparaft pas dans les 4 secondes, la table de
cuisson se verrouille. Le temoin lumineux de verrouillage de la
table de cuisson s'allume et un long signal sonore retentit.
Pour deverrouiller la table de cuisson, tourner tousles boutons
de commande & la position Off (arr_t), le temoin lumineux de
verrouillage de la table de cuisson s'eteint alors. Avant de
recommencer, s'assurer que tousles brQleurs sent propres. Voir
la section "BrQleurs de surface scelles". Vous pouvez continuer
cuisiner.
Verrouillage de la table de cuisson
Le verrouillage de latable de cuisson aide a eviter I'utilisation
involontaire des brQleurs de surface. Si un bouton de commande
est positionne au reglage LITE (allumage) Iorsque la table de
cuisson est verrouillee, on entend un declic; il se peut que
I'allumeur fasse des etincelles mais le brQleur ne s'allume pas.
Activation :
Cteindre tousles brQleurs et appuyer sur la touche de verrouillage
pendant 3 secondes. Lorsque la table de cuisson est verrouillee,
le temoin lumineux de verrouillage de la table de cuisson s'allume
et un long signal sonore retentit.
D_sactivation :
Appuyer sur la touche de verrouilage pendant 3 secondes, le
temoin lumineux de verrouillage de la table de cuisson s'eteint et
un long signal sonore retentit.

Les signaux sonores indiquent ce qui suit :
Un long signal sonore
Activation/desactivation de la fonction de verrouillage de la
table de cuisson
Trois signaux sonores courts
Operation non valide - tentative de verrouiller ou de
deverrouiler la table de cuisson avec 1ou plusieurs brQleurs
allumes.
T_moin lumineux de surface chaude
Le temoin lumineux de surface chaude est situe entre le bouton
de commande avant gauche et le bouton de commande central.
Le temoin lumineux de surface chaude reste allume tant qu'une
surface de cuisson est trop chaude pour _tre touchee, m_me
apr_s avoir eteint la ou les surface(s) de cuisson.
Si une panne de courant survient alors que la table de cuisson
est allumee, les temoins lumineux de surface chaude resteront
allumes apres le retablissement de I'alimentation electrique a la
table de cuisson. IIs resteront allumes jusqu'a ce que la table de
cuisson refroidisse completement.
Apr_s une panne de courant, le temoin lumineux de surface
chaude peut rester allume jusqu'a 30 minutes une fois le courant
retabli.
Moments auxquels cela est le plus susceptible de se produire :
Lors de I'installation de la table de cuisson pour la premiere
fois.
Apres une panne de courant.
Apres une panne de courant, alors que la table de cuisson est
encore en train de refroidir (30 ou 40 minutes apres une
cuisson).
,&,chaque fois que I'alimentation electrique de la table de
cuisson est interrompue.
Panne de courant
La table de cuisson ne fonctionnera pas pendant une panne de
courant.
R_glage :
1. Pousser et tourner le bouton dans le sens antihoraire a LITE
(allumage).
Tousles brQleurs de surface emettront un declic. Seul le
brQleur dont le bouton de commande est tourne a LITE
(allumage) produira une flamme.
2. Tourner le bouton n'importe ou entre HI (eleve) et LO (bas).
Utiliser le tableau suivant comme guide Iors du reglage des
niveaux de chaleur.

IMPORTANT : Ne pas entraver I'evacuation de I'air de
combustion et de ventilation autour des bords des grilles de
brQleur.
Chapeau de brt31eur: Toujours garder le chapeau de brQleur en
place Iorsqu'un brQleur de surface est utilis& Un chapeau de
brQleur propre aide a emp_cher le mauvais allumage et les
flammes irregulieres. Toujours nettoyer le chapeau du brQleur
apres un renversement de produits et enlever et nettoyer
regulierement les chapeaux tel qu'indique a la section
"Nettoyage general".

Ouverture du tube d'arriv_e de gaz : Pour que le brQleur
s'allume convenablement, il faut que le gaz puisse passer
librement a travers I'orifice. Garder cette zone propre et ne pas
laisser les produits renverses, les aliments, les agents de
nettoyage ou tout autre produit penetrer dans I'ouverture du tube
d'arrivee de gaz. Proteger le tube d'arrivee de gaz contre les
renversements en utlisant toujours un chapeau de breleur.
5. Reinstaller le chapeau du brQleur et s'assurer qu'il est bien
aligne et centre avec la base du brQleur.

B. Orifices de brOleur
Orifices de brt31eur : Examiner occasionnellement les flammes
des brQleurs pour en verifier la taille et la forme tel qu'indique ci-
dessus. Une bonne flamme est bleue plut6t que jaune. Garder
cette zone propre et ne pas laisser les produits renverses, les
aliments, les agents de nettoyage ou tout autre produit penetrer
dans les orifices de brt31eur.
Nettoyage :
IMPORTANT :Avant le nettoyage, s'assurer que toutes les
commandes sont eteintes et que la table de cuisson a refroidi. Ne
pas utiliser de nettoyants a four, d'agent de blanchiment ou de
decapants a rouille.
1. Enlever le chapeau de brQleur de la base du brQleur et
nettoyer tel qu'indique a la section "Nettoyage gen6ral".
2. Nettoyer I'ouverture du tube d'arrivee de gaz avec un chiffon
humide.
3. Nettoyer les orifices de br[31eurobstru_s avec une 6pingle
droite tel qu'indique. Ne pas agrandir ni deformer I'orifice. Ne
pas utiliser un cure-dents en bois ou nettoyer au lave-
vaisselle. Si le brQleur a besoin d'etre ajuste, contacter un
technicien de reparation qualifie.

4. Nettoyer I'allumeur en douceur avec un linge humide.

6. Nettoyer doucement I'allumeur, ainsi que le dessus et le
dessous du bord du chapeau metallique et la base avec un
chiffon humide.
7. Reassembler le brQleur central. Aligner la tige de
positionnement avec le trou de positionnement darts le
chapeau du brQleur exterieur pour realiser un assemblage
correct.

Replacer le chapeau du brOleur interieur.
REMARQUE : Les pieces en laiton du brOleur central
changeront de couleur a I'usage. Ceci est normal.
Allumer le brQleur. Si le brt31eurne s'allume pas, verifier
I'alignement du chapeau. Si le brQleur ne s'allume toujours
pas, ne pas reparer vous-m_me le brQleur scelle. Contacter
un technicien de reparation qualifie.
Grilles de surface
Positionner les pied de la grille du brQleur dans les rainures
arrondies a I'avant eta I'arriere de la table de cuisson.
L'emplacement des pieds des grilles de brQleur diff_re d'une
grille a I'autre, ce qui permet de s'assurer qu'elles sent bien
positionnees.
