WARNING
This conversion kit is to be installed by an Empire Comfort Systems, Inc., distributor (or other
qualied agency¹)* in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and all codes and
requirements of the authority having jurisdiction. Failure to follow instructions could result
in serious injury or property damage. The qualied agency performing this work assumes
responsibility for this conversion.

in person or through a representative is engaged in and is responsible for (a) the installation
of gas piping or (b) the connection, installation repair, or servicing of equipment, who is
experienced in such work, familiar with all precautions required, and has complied with all the
requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.
CHECK THE SAFETY SHUTDOWN PERFORMANCE
WARNING
Perform the safety shutdown test any time work is done on a gas system to avoid the possibility
of re or explosion with property damage, personal injury or loss of life.
CHECK SAFETY SHUTDOWN SYSTEM
Intermittent Pilot System
1. Switch main switch to “OFF” position. Main burner and pilot should go off.
2. Pilotgasowshouldstopwithin30seconds.
3. Relightpilotburnerandoperatesystemthroughonecompletecycletomakesureallcontrolsoperateproperly.

ThedirectventgasreplacewhenconvertedtoNaturalGaswill
haveamanifoldpressureofapproximately3.5"w.c.(.871kPa)
at the valve outlet with the inlet pressure to the valve from
aminimumof4.5"w.c.(1.120kPa)forthepurposeofinput
adjustmenttoamaximumof14.0"w.c.(3.484kPa).
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONVERSION
1. Ifthereplaceisinstalled,turnOFFgasandelectricsupply
toreplacebeforemakinggasconversion.
2. Removebottompanel,grasppanel,liftandpullforward.
3. Releasetwoglassframespringclampsatbottomofrebox.
4. Removeglassframeassembly.
5. Removelogsfromburnerassembly.
6. If applicable, remove liners and burner cover.
7. Removetwo10x1/2"screwsfromrearlogsupport.Remove
log support.
8. Removefour10x1/2"screwsfromeachburner(2).Grasp
eachburner(2),liftandpulltotherighttoremoveburner
assembly.
9. Usea3/8"and7/16"wrenchtoremoveburnerorices.

RemovePropaneGasmainburneroricesfromoricettings.
11. InstallNaturalGasmainburneroriceintooricetting:
forDVCX36useoriceMARKED 47 for the FRONT
and 42 for the REAR
forDVCX42useorceMARKED 44 for the FRONT
and 40 for the REAR
12. Disconnect the gas line from the pilot to gain access to the
pilot injector.
13. RemovePropaneGaspilotinjectororicefrompilotburner.
14. Insert Appropriate Natural Gas pilot injector orice into
pilot burner.
15. Re-installgaslinetothepilot.
16. Convert the gas valve as instructed in S.I.T. Natural Gas
Valve Conversion Kit.
17. Adjustairshuttersettingto3/16" Open on all models.
18. Aligneachburnerassembly(2)withtheairshutterasyou
placeburnerassemblyintotheoriginalpositioninrebox.
19. Attacheachburnerassembly(2)withfour10x1/2"screws
from Step 8.

Attachrearlogsupportwithtwo10x1/2"screwsfromStep7.
21. Theconvertedreplacemustbeconnectedtoasupplyof
theconversiongasandcheckedforleaksatallconnections.
22. RefertoLiner,LogandEmberPlacementinyourInstallation
Instructions.
23. Thereplacemustbecheckedtoensureitisoperatingat
thecorrectpressureof3.5"w.c.
24. Replaceglassframeontorebox.
25. Securethetwoglassframespringclampsatbottomof
reboxtosecureglassdoorassembly.
26. Replacebottompanel.
27. Gasconversioniscompleted.
Themainburnerameandpilotburneramemustbechecked
forproperamecharacteristics,asoutlinedintheInstallation
Instructions and Owner’s Manual.
VERIFYING INPUT RATE OF CONVERTED FIREPLACE
Theinputofthereplacemustbecheckedasfollows:
1. Turnoffallothergasappliances.Clockthegasmeterand
determine the number of seconds required to consume one
cubic foot of gas.
2. 3600÷time(inseconds)=cu.Ft.perhour.
3. Thencu.Ft.perhourxheatingvalueofgas=inputrate
(Btuh).Oninstallationwithoutgasmeters,checkmanifold
for proper pressure.
Ifreplaceisnotinstalledorwarrantycardhasnotbeenreturned
toEmpireComfortSystems,Inc.,checkofftypeofgasconverted
tooncard.Also,indicateconversionbyadding“Conv.”behind
typeofgas.
