Step 1: Pick your speaker locations
Speakerssoundbestwhentheypointtowardyourears.TheT0hasbeen
designedtomakethiseasy,whetherusedonadeskorinaroom.
The support is optional for desktop usage, but we recommend leaving it
installed if you have space to improve portability. For space constrained
applications the supplied 2.5mm Allen wrench can be used to remove the
support. The support can also be moved to the other side of the cabinet, as
the T0 works with the passive radiator facing either up or down. Note that
when the passive radiator faces down the support must face down too; the
speaker cannot be allowed to rest on the passive radiator.
Desktop Usage
Placethespeakersonthesuppliedisolatedpadswiththesupports
andpassiveradiatorsfacingup.Positiontheactivespeakerwiththe
connectionsontherightsideofyourseatedposition(thiscanbechanged
insoftware).Trytogetyourspeakersatequaldistanceoneachside.
In-Room Usage
Placethespeakersonthesuppliedpadswiththesupportsandpassive
radiatorsfacingdown.Positiontheactivespeakerwiththeconnectionson
therightsideofyourlisteningposition(thiscanbechangedinsoftware,see
speakercongurationsettings).Ideallyyourspeakersshouldbeatequal
distancefromyourbestlisteningpositiononeachside,andapproximately
atearlevelwhenyouareseated.

Vanatooknowseachcustomer’senvironmentandlisteningpreferencesare
dierent.T0speakershavebass,treble,andvolumeadjustmentstoallowyouto
tuneyourspeakerstoyourlisteningenvironment.
1. Turntheaudiodevicevolumeuptothe¾point.
2. Turntheactivespeakervolumeknobuptothemaximumvolumeyoudesire.
3. Thisshouldprovideagoodvolumecombinationsothat,inthefuture,you
shouldonlyneedtoadjustthevolumecontrolonyouraudiodevicetoachieve
yourdesiredlisteningvolume.Adjustthevolumecombinationdownifyour
settingscausedistortion.Aswithallspeakers,prolongeddistortioncancause
permanentdamage.
4. Adjustthetrebleandbasssettingsasdesired.Inmostcases,theoptimum
settingforaatfrequencyresponseistosetthetrebleandbassknobsatthe
midsettings.Thisisourdefaultsetting.Tondouthowtoadjustthetreble
andbasssettingsintheT0pleaserefertothesectiononthissubjectlaterin
thismanual.

Byusingthevolumeknob,thevolume/treble/bassselectorswitchandthePair/Progbuttoncertain
settingscanbechangedintheT0tomakeitoperatealittledierently.Thefeaturesthatcanbe
changedarelistedinthetablebelow.Toselectoneofthesesetupitemsyoumustrstpowero
theT0byunpluggingtheDCpowerplug,thensetthevolumeknobandthevolume/treble/bass
switchpertheselectionyouwishfromthetablebelow,thenwhileholdingthePair/Progbutton

connectasubwoofertotheT0withtheFlatDSPsettingselected,thecrossovertothesubwoofer
issetat80Hz.
Stereo/Mono setting—SettingtheT0tothedefaultStereomodewillgiveyoutrueleft/right
stereooutputwiththeactivespeaker(theonewiththevolumeknob)beingtherightchannel.If
yousettheT0totheoptionalMonomodetheinput’sleftandrightchannelsaresummedtogether
andthesamecontentisoutputtobothspeakers.UsetheMonomodeifyouwanttotakejustthe
activespeakerwithyoutothegaragetoworkonyourcarbutdon’twanttobothertakingboth
speakers.JustsettheT0tomonomode,plugintheactivespeakerintopower,andpushmusicto
thespeakerwithyourBluetoothonyourphone.Ifyouwanttoincludeyourpassivespeakerinthe
Monomodethat’sOKtoo.
Auto Input Switch setting—InthedefaultsettingwhentheT0goestosleepitwillautomatically
resettheinputselectiontotheAutoInputSwitchmode.Thiswayifsomeoneinyourfamilyuses
theremotecontroltoselectaspecicinputthenanhourlateryouwalkintheroomyouwillalways
knowthatsendingmusiconanyinputwillbringtheunitoutofsleepmodeandyourmusicwill
play.MostpeopleshouldleavetheT0inthissetting.
IntheoptionalsettingwhentheT0goestosleepitwillnotchangetheinputselection.Tobring
theT0outofsleepmodetheusermustplaymusiconthelastinputselectedorhitanykeyon
theremotetobringtheT0outofsleepmodethenselectthedesiredinput.Thisisprobablyaless
frequentlyusedsettingbutsomeusersmaynditusefulinacontrolledenvironment.
Limiters setting—InthedefaultLimitersettingtheT0DSPincorporateslimiters(sometimecalled
compressors).ThesearecommonlyusedinmakingPopMusicrecordings,andhavetheeectof

CONNECTING TO AN OPTIONAL SUBWOOFER
VanatooTransparentZerospeakersaredesignedtoprovideexcellentbassatlouderthan
normallisteninglevelswithouttheneedforasubwoofer.Howeverifyouareplayingvery
bassheavymusic,addingasubwooferwillallowyoutoplayevenlowerbassandachieve
louderoverallvolume.Whenasubwooferisconnected,theactivespeakerautomatically
detectstheconnectionandaddsadigitalcrossovernetworkbetweentheT0speakersand
thesubwoofer.

ADJUSTING TREBLE AND BASS
ThetrebleandbasscanbeadjustedontheT0usingthevolumeknoblocatedonthetopof
theT0activespeakeralongwiththethreepositionV-T-B(volume/treble/bass)switchandthe
Pair/ProgbuttonbothlocatedonthebackoftheT0activespeaker.Tosetthetreblesetting,
startbyplayingsomemusic.WhilethemusicisplayingmovetheV-T-Bswitchtothe“treble”
position.Nowadjustthetreblesettingtotasteusingthevolumeknob(whichatthispointin
timeisredenedtobeatrebleknob).Notethatthetwodotsatthecenteroftheknob’stravel
denotesthe“at”position.Whenyouhavethetrebleadjustedtotastedepressandrelease
thePair/Progbutton.Thisactionlocksinthetreblesettingsoyoucanmoveontothebass
setting.TosetthebasssettingfollowthesameprocedureexceptwiththeV-T-Bswitchsetto
“bass.”WhenyouhavecompletedthetrebleandbasssettingsmovetheV-T-Bswitchtothe

isonandnomusicisplaying,settheV-T-Bswitchtothe“volume”postition,holdthe“Pair/
Prog”buttondownfor5seconds.Afterthe5secondscontinuetoholdthebuttondown(do
notreleaseitoryouwillhavetostartthe5secondsoveragain).Thenrotatethevolumeknob
onthetopoftheT0activespeaker.WhenyouhavetheblueLEDintensitywhereyoulikeit
thenreleasethePair/Progbutton.That’sit.Nomoreneedofapieceofblackelectricaltape
stuckonthepoweronLEDtokeepyourbedroomdark.TheblueLEDwillnowbeatthis

MP3playeristhesourcethatwillbeplayed.Ifhowever,theMP3playeristurnedoandthe
networkedaudiodeviceislefton,thenetworkedaudiodevicewillbethesourcethatisplayed.
When switching from a higher priority input to a lower priority input, the higher priority
input must be OFF (or silent) for 7 seconds before the T0 amplier will switch to the
lower priority input. Thisenablestheampliertodiscernbetweenthehigherinputbeing
turnedoandnormalinter-tracksilencethusavoidingswitchingtothelowerpriorityinput
betweenaudiotracks.This7secondwaittimeisnotnecessarywhenswitchingfromasource
thatislowerinprioritytoonethatishigher.Therefore,switchingfromalowerpriorityinputto
ahigherpriorityinputwillhappenalmostimmediately.
