FEATURES AND OPERATION OVERVIEW
OVERVIEW
The DMX Gateway (RS232-DMX-GW) provides a full DMX universe of
512 channels. This product is RS232 based, can be connected directly
to the InFusion Controller, and is programmed via Design Center 4.2
software or higher providing simple programming install for DMX systems.

WIRING DIAGRAM
1. There are three LEDs on the front panel. At startup, the ‘power’ LED illuminates solidly. The ‘RS232’ and ‘DMX’ LEDs ash briey
2-3 times depending on rmware version. Then the ‘DMX’ LED begins a ickering heartbeat conrming correct boot up state.
2. For normal operation, the DMX Engine requires pins 2, 3 and 5 on the DB-9 serial connector. These pins map to ‘Transmit from
Engine to Controller’, ‘Receive from Controller to Engine’ and ‘Ground’ respectively. This system also uses a hardware ow control
pin, #4 (DTR) to load new rmware in the eld.
NOTE: For regular use, pin 4 should be disconnected at the DMX Engine connector. If it’s oating (ie, a 12’ serial cable is
connected, with pin 4 intact at the DMX Engine but unconnected at the controller) pin 4 may act as an antenna, and nearby electrical
interference can cause erratic operation.
3. Each of the two RJ45 / CAT5 connectors on the DMX Engine is driven by a discrete interface chip. Consider the Engine a 2-output
optosplitter, up to 32 DMX devices may be daisy-chained from *each* output, assuming good connections and stable cabling. Output
#1 and output #2 are driven with identical copies of the DMX datastream. These dual outputs are sometimes useful for reaching
separate rooms in an installation.
Best practice for DMX runs is to terminate the far end of the cable (ie, the output of the last device in the chain) with a 120 ohm 1
watt resistor across the data pins, (D+, D-). Cabling should be wired to the 568-B standard, this is the orange / orange white pair. For
equipment based on round 3 pin or 5 pin XLR connectors, data is present on pins 2 and 3.
