FOR USING ~IAILERS

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS

~ DANGER

1 . ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTOR.

2. NEVER USE BO~LED GASES.

When operating the Nailer, always wear eye protector, and make sure

others in work area wear eye protector, too.

Eye protector must conform to the requirements of American National

Standards Institute, ANS[ Z87.1 and provide protection against flying

particles both from the front and side.

The employer must enforce the use of eye protector by the Nailer

operator and others in work area.

Never use oxygen, combustible gases or any other bottled gases as a

power source for the Nailer.

Use of the above gases is dangerous, as the Nailer will explode.

Use only ciean, dry, regulated compressed air.

~WARNING

DO NOT EXCEED 120 psi.

Do not exceed maximum recommended air pressure 120 psi (8.3 bar

8.5 kgf/cm2).

Never connect the Nai[er to pressure which potentially exceeds 200 psi

(13.7 bar 14kgf/cm2) as the Nailer can burst.

4. NEVER POENT NAILER TOWARD YOURSELFOR

ANYONE ELSE.

Always assume the Nai[er contains fasteners.

Never point the Nailer toward yourself or anyone else,

whether it contains fasteners or not.

If fasteners are mistakenly driven, it can lead to severe

injuries.

Never engage in horseplay with the Nailer.

Respect the Nailer as a working implement.

NEVER CARRY WITH FENGER ON TRIGGER.

Remove finger from trigger when not driving fasteners.

Never carry the Nailer with finger on trigger since you

could drive a fastener unintentionally and injure

yourself or someone else.

Always carry the Nailer by the hand[e on[y.

ALWAYS WEAR EAR A~D HEAD PROTECTOR.

Always wear ear protector to protect your ears from

loud noise.

Always wear head protector to protect your head from

flying objects.

7. STORENAILER PROPERLY.

When not in use, the Nailer should be stored in a dry

place. Keep out of reach of children. Lock the storage

area.

8. KEEP WORK AREA CLEANi.

Cluttered areas invite injuries. Clear all work areas of

unnecessary tools, debris, furniture, etc.

9. NEVER USE IN PRESENCE OF FLAMMABLE

LIQUIDS OR GASES.

The Nailer produces sparks during operation.

Never use the Nailer in sites containing lacquer, paint,

benzine, thinneT, gasoline, gases, adhesive agents,

and other materials which are combustible or explosive.

10. KEEP ViSITORS AWAY.

Do not let visitors handle the Nailer.

All visitors should be kept safely away from work

area.

DRESS PROPERLY.

Do not wear ioose clothing or jewe[ry as they can be

oaught in moving parts.

Rubber gloves and nonskid footwear are

recommended when working outdoors.

Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.

NEVER USE NON REL[EV[NG COUPLER ON

NAILER.

If a non relieving coupler is used on the Nailer, the

Nailer can remain charged with air after disconnecting

and thus wili be able to drive a fastener even after

disconnecting.

The Nailer and air hose must have a hose coupling

such that all pressure is removed from the Nailer

when the coupiing joint is disconnected.

CHECK PUSH LEVER BEFORE USE.

Make sure the push lever operates properly. (The

push lever may be called "Safety".) Never use the

Nailer unless the push lever is operating properly,

otherwise the Nailer could drive a fastener

unexpectedly. Do not tamper with or remove the push

lever, otherwise the push lever becomes inoperable.

KEEP ALL SCREWS AND COVERS TIGHTLY INl

PLACE.

Keep all screws and covers tightly mounted. Check

their condition periodically.

Never use the Nailer if parts are missing or damaged.

DO NOT LOAD FASTENERS WITH TRIGGER OR

PUSH LEVER DEPRESSED.

When loading fasteners into the Nailer or when

conneoting the air hose,

1) do not depress the trigger;

2) do not depress the push lever; and

3) keep the Nailer pointed downward.

16. KEEP HANDS AND FEET AWAY FROMI FIRING

HEAD DURING USE.

Never place your hands or feet cioser than 8 inches

(200 mm) from the firing head.

A serious injury can resuit if the fasteners are

deflected by the workpiece, or are driven away from

the point of entry.

1 7. PLACE NIAILER PROPERLY ON WORKPIECE.

Do not drive fasteners on top of other fasteners or

with the Nailer at too steep of an angle; the fasteners

can ricochet and hurt someone.

18. BE CAREFUL OF DOUBLE FIRE DUE TO RECOIL.

If the push lever is uninientional[y allowed to re-contact

the workpiece following recoil, an unwanted fastener

will be driven.

In order to avoid this undesirable double fire,

1) do not push the Nailer on the workpiece with

strong force;

2) take the Nailer completely away from the

workpiece using recoil, and keep the push lever

away from the workpiece until the next desirable

shot; and

3) pull the trigger and release it QUICKLY when

performing intermittent operation (trigger fire).

19. DO NOT DRIVE FASTENERS INTO THIN

BOARDS OR NEAR CORNERS AND EDGES OF

WORKPIECE.

The fasteners can be driven through or away from the

workpiece and hit someone.

20. NEVER DRIVE FASTE~NERS FROMI BOTH StDES

OF A WALL AT THE SAME TIME.

The fasieners can be drive.n into and through the wall

and hit a person on the opposite side.

21 . CHECK FOR LIVE WIRES.

Avoid the risk of severe electrical shock by checking

for live eiectrical wires that may be hidden by walls,

floors or ceilings. Turn off the breaker switch to

ensure there are no live wires.

22. NEVER CARRY NAILER BY HOSE.

23. DO NOT OVERREACH.

Keep proper footing and balance at all times.

24. NEVER USE NAtLER WHICH IS DEFECTIVE OR

OPERATING ABNORMALLY.

If the Nailer appears to be operating unusually,

making strange noises, or otherwise appears

defective, stop using it immediately and arrange for

repairs by a Hitachi authorized service center.

25. DO NOT DISCONNECT AIR HOSE FROM NAILER

WITH FINGER ON TRiGGER.

The Nailer can fire when re-connected to an air supply.

26. DISCONNECT AI~ HOSE FROM NAaLER WHEN:

1 ) doing maintenance and inspection;

2) clearing a jam;

3) it is not in use;

4) Ieaving work area;

5) moving it to another location; and

6) handing it to another person.

Never attempt to clear a jam or repair the Nailer unless

you have disconnected air hose from the Nailer and

removed all remaining fasteners from the Nailer.

The Nailer should never be left unattended since people

who are not fami[iar with the Nailer might handle it and

injure the themselves.

27. STAY ALERT.

Watch what you are doing. Use common sense.

Do not operate the Nailer when you are tired.

The Nailer should never be used by you if you are under

the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that makes

you drowsy.

28. HANDLE NAILER CORRECTLY.

Operate the Nailer according to this Manual.

Never allow the Nailer to be operated by children,

individuals unfamiliar with its operation or unauthorized

personnel.

29. NEVER USE NAILER FOR APPLHCATIO~IS

OTHER THAN TH0SE SPECEFEED HN THlS

MANUAL.

30. HANDLE NAILER CAREFULLY

Because of high air pressure in the Nailer, cracks in the

surtace are dangerous.

To avoid this, do not drop the Nailer or strike the Nailer

against hard surfaces; and do not scratch or engrave

signs on the Nailer. Handle the Nailer carefully.

31. WiAINTAaN NAILER WITH CARE.

Keep the Nailer clean and lubricated for better and safer

performance.

32. USE ONILY PARTS, ACCESSORIES OR

FASTENERS SUPPLI~:D OR RECOMMENDED BY

HITACHL

Unauthorized parts, accessories, or fasteners may void

your warranty and can lead to malfunction and resulting

injuries.

Only service personnel trained by Hitachi, distributor or

employer shall repair the Nailer.

Never modity or alter a nailer. Doing so may cause it to

malfunction and personal injuries may result.

E~iPLOYER'S RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensure that this MANUAL is available to operators and

personnel performing maintenance.

2. Ensure that Nailers are used only when operators and

others in work area are wearing EYE PROTECTOR.

3. Enforce the use of EYE PROTECTOR by operators and

others in work area.

Make sure ot the touowings before operation.

WORKING ENVIRON~IENT

1 . Power source

O Use only clean, dry, regulated compressed air as a power

source for this Nailer.

O Air compressors used to supply compressed air to this

Nailer must comply with the requirements of the latest

version of ANSI Standard B 1 9.3 "Safety Standard For

Compressors For Process Industries."

O Moisture or oil in the air compressor may accelerate wear

and corrosion in the Nailer.

Drain daily.

2. Filter-Regulator-Lubricator

O Use a regulator with a pressure range of O - 120 psi

(O - 8.3 bar O - 8.5 kgf/cm2).

O Filter-regulator-lubricator units supply an optimum

condition for the Nailer and extend the Nailer life.

These units shou[d always be used.

Filter .............. The filter removes moisture and dirt mixed

in compressed air.

Drain daily unless fitted with an automatic

drain.

Keep the filter clean by regular

maintenance.

Regulator ....... The regulator controls the operating

pressure for safe operation of the Nailer.

Inspect the regulator before operation to be

sure it operates properiy.

Lubricator ...... The lubricator supplies an oil mist to the

Nailer.

Inspect the lubricator before operation to be

sure the supply of lubricant is adequate.

Use Hitachi pneumatic too[ :ubricant.

AIR

No flammable gas, Iiquid or other flammable

objects at worksite.

Clear the area of children or unauthorized personnel.

SUPPLY

O Never use oxygen, combustible gases or any other

O Never connect Nailer to pressure which potentially

Air hose must have a minimum working pressure rating of

pressure produced in the system, whichever is higher.

The Nailer can be installed as follows:

Remove the dust seal placed at the air inlet.

Install a 3/8 NPT male plug at the air inlet.

After making the calculations as shown above, you should

find a compressor providing 6.3 CFM of air that is required.

LUBRICATION

[t is important that the Nailer be properly lubricated.

Without proper lubrication, the Nailer will not work properly

and parts wiil wear prematurely.

O Use Hitachi pneumatic tool lubricant.

Do not use detergent oil or additives. These lubricants will

harm the O-rings and other rubber parts. This wil[ cause

the Nailer to malfunction.

O Filter-regulator-lubricator units should always be used.

Keep the lubricator filled with Hitachi pneumatic tool

lubricant.

O If a lubricator is not available, supply 2 - 3 drops of Hitachi

pneumatic tool lubricant into the air plug on the Nailer

twice a day.

COLD WEATHER CARE

O Do not store the Nailer in a cold weather environment.

Keep the Nailer in a warm area until beginning the work.

O [f the Nailer is aiready cold, bring it in a warm area and

allow the Nailer to warm up before use.

(1) Reduce the air pressure to 40 psi (2.8 bar

2.8 kgf/cm2).

(~)_ Remove ali nails from the Nailer.

(~) Connect the air hose and free-fire (blank-fire) the

Nailer.

The lowered air pressure will be enough to free-fire the

Nailer.

Slow speed operation tends to warm up the moving

part.

~ CAUTION

O Do not free-fire the Nailer at high pressure.

TESTIN!G THE

NAILER

O Always wear eye protector.

O Never use Nailer unless push lever ls operating

pro periy.

Before actually beginning the nailing work, test the Nailer by

using the checklist below. Conduct the tests in the following

order.

If abnormal operation occurs, stop using the Nailer and

contact a Hitachi authorized service center immediately.

(1) DISCONNECT AIR HOSE FROM NAILER.

REMOVE ALL NAILS FROM NAILER.

e Do not exceed 120 psi (8.3 bar 8.5 kgf/cm2).

Adjust the air pressure at recommended operating pressure

70 - 120 psi (4.9 - 8.3 bar 5 - 8.5 kgflcm2) according to the

length of nails and the hardness of workpiece.

The correct air pressure is the lowest pressure which will do

the job. Using the Nailer at a higher than required air pressure

unnecessarily over stresses the Nailer.

LOADING NAILS

O When loading nails into Nailer,

1 ) do not depress trigger;

2) do not depress push lever; and

3) keep Nailer pointed downward.

NAILER OPERATION

e Never point Nailer toward yourself or anyone else.

O Never carry with finger on trigger.

Remove finger from trigger when not driving nails.

O Never place your hands or feet closer than 8 inches

(200 mm) from firing head when using.

O Do not drive nails on top of other nails or with

Nailer at too steep of an angle; nails can ricochet

and hurt someone.

O En order to avoid double fire or unwanted ejection

of a naii due to bouncing of the Nailer.

1) do not push Nailer on workpiece with strong

fo ree ;

2) take Naiier away from workpiece using recoil;

3) release trigger quickly when performing trigger

fire.

O Do not drive nails into thin boards or near corners

and edges of workpiece. Naile can be driven

through or away from workpiece and hit someone.

O Never drive nails from both sides of a walt at the

same time. Nails can be driven into and through the

waN and hit a person on the opposite side.

O Never use Naiter which is defective or operating

abnormally.

O Do not use Nailer as hammer.

O Disconnect air hose from Nailer when:

1) it is not in use;

2) Ieaving work area;

3) moving it to another location; and

4) handing it to another person.

This Hitachi nailer has a STANDARD CONTACT TRIP

MECHANISM (Bounce Fire). An OPTIONAL SEQUENTIAL

TRIP MECHANISM kit (SINGLE SHOT) is available as order

part number 876762.

METHODS OF OPERATION

This Nailer is equipped with the push lever and does not

operate unless the push lever is depressed (upward position).

There are two methods of operation to drive nails with this

Nailer.

They are:

1 . Intermittent operation (Trigger fire):

2. Continuous operation (Push lever fire):

(1 ) Intermittent operation (Trigger fire)

O Keep your finger off the trigger except during

fastening operation, because serious injury could

result if the push iever accidentaliy contacts you or

others in work area.

e Keep hands and body away from the discharge

area. The najier with contact trip mechanism may

bounce from the recoil of driving a faetener and

unwanted subsequent fastener may be driven,

possibly causing injury.

O Some types of loaded nails can spark out of the

SHOT PARTS) is for use where precision fastener

placement is desired and must be operated in accordance

with the following "Method of Operation".

You must first depress the push lever (upward position)

where you want to drive a nail and then pull the trigger.

After the each nail is driven, comp!etely release the trigger

and lift the tool off the work surface.

An OPTIONAL SEQUENTIAL TR[P MECHANISM may

reduse the possibility of bodily injury to you or others in the

work area. This is because it is less likely to drive an

unwanted nail if you keep the trigger pulled and

aocidentally bump the push lever against yourself or

others. An OPTIONAL SEQUENTIAL TRIP MECHANISM

may also reduse the speed of operation compared to the

standard contact trip mechanism.

NOTE:

O Both STANDARD CONTACT TRIP MECHANISM and

OPTIONAL SEQUENTIAL TRIP MECHANISM are safe if

used as described above and accroding to all warnings

and instructions.

O Always handle nai!s and package careful[y. If nails are

dropped, co!lating plastic or paper may be broken.

O After nailing:

1) disconnect air hose from the Nailer;

2) remove a]1 nails from the Nailer;

3) supply 2 - 3 drops of Hitachi pneumatic tool lubricant

into the air plug on the Nailer; and

4) open the petcock on the aircompressor tankto drain

any moisture.

Si l'on utilise un coupleur non d6gageant sur le

cloueur, Ie cloueur risque de rester charg6 d'air apr~s

le debranchement, et donc d'enfoncer un clou m~me

apr~s qu'il est debranch6.

Le cloueur et le tuyau d'air doivent avoir un coupleur

de tuyau tel que toute [a pression soit 6vacu6e du cloueur

quand on debranche le joint de couplage.

13. VERIF~ER LE LEVtER-POUSS01R AVANT

L'UTILISATHONl.

S'assurer que le levier-poussoir fonctionne

correctement. (Le levier-poussoir est parfois appel6

"s6curit6".) Ne jamais utiliser le cloueur si ie levier-

poussoir ne fonctionne pas correctement. Un clou pourrait

s'enfoncer accidenteliement. Ne pas toucher

au levier-poussoir ni le retirer, car il pourrait ne plus

fonctionner.

i4. VEILLER A CE QUE TOUTES LES VIS ET LES

COUVERCLES SORENIT EN PLACE ET BIEN

SERRES.

Veiller a ce que les vis et les couvercles soient

solidement fix6s. Les v6rifier p6riodiquement.

Ne jamais utiliser le cloueur si des pi~ces manquent

ou sont endommag6es.

15. NE PAS CHARGER DE CLOUS S] LA GACHETTE

OU LE LEVIER-POUSSOIR SONT ENFONCES.

Quand on charge des clous dans le cloueur ou qu'on

raccorde le tuyau d'air,

1) ne pas appuyer sur la gachette.

2) ne pas actionner le levier-poussoir ; et

3) diriger le cloueur vers le bas.

16. ELOICiNER LES MIAINS ET LES PIEDS DE LA

TETE DE CLOUAGE PENDANT L'UTILISATION.

Ne jamais approcher les mains ni les pieds ~ moins de

8 pouces (200 mm) de la t~te de clouage.

ll y a risque de blessures graves si les clous sont

d6vi6s par la pi~ce ou qu'ils sont d6port6s au-del~ du

point d'entr6e.

17. PLACER LE CLOUEUR CORRECTEME~T SUR LA

PIECE.

Ne pas enfoncer de clous sur d'autres clous ni avec le

cloueur a un angle trop aigu ; Ies clous pourraient

ricocher et blesser quelqu'un.

1 8. FAIRE ATTENTHON AUX DOUBLES ACTIVA-

TIONS DUES AU RAPPEL.

Si on laisse le levier-poussoir entrer accidentellement

en contact avec la pi~ce apr~s le rappel, un clou risque

d'~tre enfonc6.

Pour 6viter ce risque :

1 ) ne pas appuyer le cloueur trop fort contre la pi~ce;

2) 610igner compl~tement le cloueur de la pi~ce

avec le rappel, et maintenir le levier-poussoir a

clouage suivante ;

3) tirer sur la gachette et la relacher RAPIDEMENT

s'assurer qu'il n'y a pas de fils sous tension.

26. DEBRANCHER LE TUYAU D'AHR DU CLOUEUR

QUA~ID:

1) on entretient ou inspecte le cloueur ;

2) on retire des clous coinc6s ;

3) on ne s'en sert pas ;

4) on quitte l'aire de travail ;

5) on le transporte dans un autre endroit ; et

6) on le passe ~ quelqu'un d'autre.

Ne jamais retirer des clous coinc6s ni r6parer ie

cloueur si le tuyau d'air n'est pas debranch6 du

cloueur et que les clous restants ne sont pas tous

retir6s du cloueur.

Ne jamais s'6[oigner du cloueur car des persbnnes

non famiiiaris6es avec son fonctionnement pourraient

le manipuler et se blesser.

27. RESTER SUR SES GARDES.

Regarder ce que l'on fait. Faire preuve de bon sens.

Ne pas utiliser le cloueur lorsqu'on est fatigu6.

Ne jamais utiliser le cloueur si l'on est sous l'influence

de m6dicaments, d'alcool ou de toute autre substance

soporifique.

28. M!ANIPULER LE CLOUEUR CORRECTEMENT.

Utiliser le cloueur en suivant ies instructions du

manuel.

Ne jamais permettre que le cloueur soit utilis6 par des

enfants, des personnes non familiaris6es avec son

fonctionnement ou des personnes non autoris6es.

29. NE JAMAIS UTILISER LE CLOUEUR POUR DES

APPLICATIONS AUTRES QUE CELLES QUI SONT

SPEC]FIEES DANS CE MANUEL.

30. MANIPULER LE CLOUEUR AVEC PRECAUTION.

A cause de la pression d'air 6lev6e a l'int6rieur du

cloueur, Ies fissures en surface sont dangereuses.

Pour 6viter tout risque, ne pas faire tomber le cloueur

ni le heurter contre des surfaces dures ; et ne pas le

rayer ni graver des inscriptions dessus. Manipuler le

cloueur avec pr6caution.

31 . ENTRETENIR SOIGNiEUSEMENT LE CLOUEUR.

Veiller ~ ce que le cloueur soit toujours propre et

graiss6 pour obtenir un fonctionnement optimal et en

toute s6curiie.

32. UTILasER EXCLUSIVEMENT DES PEECES,

ACCESSOIRES OU CLOUS FOURNIS OU

RECOMMANDES PAR HITACHI.

Des pi~ces, accessoires ou clous non autoris6s

pourraient annuler la garantie, entrainer un mauvais

fonctionnement et provoquer des blessures.

Les r6parations du cloueur seront confi6es

exclusivement au personnel d'entretien form6 par

Hitachi, au distributeur ou ~ l'employeur.

Ne jamais modifier ni alt6rer un cloueur. Cela pourrait

provoquer un mauvais fonctionnement et entrainer des

blessures physiques.

RESPONSABILITES DE L'EWIPLOYEUR

1. Veiller ~ ce que ce MANUEL reste ~ la disposition des

personnes qui doivent utiliser ou entretenir le cloueur.

2. Veiller a ce que les cloueurs soient utilis6s

exclusivement lorsque les op6rateurs et les autres

personnes pr6sentes dans I'aire de travail portent des

LUNE~ES DE PROTECTION.

3. Obliger les op6rateurs et les autres personnes

pr6sentes dans i'aire de travail ~ porter des LUNETTES

DE PROTECTION.

Maintenir les cloueurs en bon ordre de marche.

Entretenir les cloueurs correctement.

Veiller ~ ce que les cloueurs qui ont besoin d'6tre

r6par6s ne soient plus utilis6s avant d'6tre r6par6s.
