When referring to drive capacity, one gigabyte, or GB, equals one billion bytes and one terabyte, or TB, equals one trillion bytes. Your computer’s operating system may use a different standard of measurement and report
a lower capacity. In addition, some of the listed capacity is used for formatting and other functions, and thus will not be available for data storage. Actual quantities will vary based on various factors, including file size, file
format, features and application software. Actual data rates may vary depending on operating environment and other factors. The export or re-export of hardware or software containing encryption may be regulated by
the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security (for more information, visit www.bis.doc.gov), and controlled for import and use outside of the U.S. Seagate reserves the right to change, without notice,

2. Compliance and Safety — All Products
This chapter describes applicable safety, certification, and compliance requirements and regulations that apply to all
Seagate products, HDDs, SSDs, Add-in Cards, and Cloud Systems.
Agency and Safety Certifications
Each HDD, SSD, and System product has certifications that apply to that specific product. The following
sections provide details of requirements and compliance that may apply to these products.
2.1 Federal Communications Commissions Notice
2.1.1 FCC Verification
For devices that display the FCC mark, these devices are intended to be contained solely within a personal computer,
server, or similar enclosure (not attached as an external device). As such, each device is considered to be a
subassembly even when it is individually marketed to the customer. As a subassembly, no Federal Communications
Commission verification or certification of the device is required.
Seagate has tested these devices in enclosures as described above to ensure that the total assembly (enclosure, disk
drive, motherboard, power supply, and so on.) does comply with the limits for a Class B computing device, pursuant to
Subpart J, Part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation with non-certified assemblies is likely to result in interference to radio
and television reception.
Radio and television interference. This device generates and uses radio frequency energy and if not installed and
used in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, may cause interference to radio and television
reception.
This device is designed to provide reasonable protection against such interference in a residential installation.
However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this device does cause
interference to radio or television, which can be determined by turning the equipment on and off, users are
encouraged to try one or more of the following corrective measures:
Reorient the receiving antenna.
Move the device to one side or the other of the radio or TV.
Move the device farther away from the radio or TV.
Plug the computer into a different outlet so that the receiver and computer are on different branch outlets.
If necessary, users should consult a dealer or an experienced radio/television technician for additional suggestions.
Users may find helpful the following booklet prepared by the Federal Communications Commission: How to Identify
and Resolve Radio-Television Interference Problems. This booklet is available from the Superintendent of Documents,
U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 20402. Refer to publication number 004-000-00345-4.
Part 15 of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rules and Regulations has established Radio Frequency
(RF) emission limits to provide an interference-free radio frequency spectrum. Many electronic devices, including
computers, generate RF energy incidental to their intended function and are, therefore, covered by these rules. These
rules place computers and related peripheral devices into two classes, A and B, depending upon their intended
installation. Class A devices are those that may reasonably be expected to be installed in a business or commercial
environment. Class B devices are those that may reasonably be expected to be installed in a residential environment,
such as personal computers. The FCC requires devices in both classes to bear a label indicating the interference
potential of the device as well as additional operating instructions for the user.
Compliance, Safety, and Disposal Guide, Rev E 9
www.Seagate.com Federal Communications Commissions Notice
The rating label on the device shows which class (A or B) the equipment falls into. Class B devices have an FCC logo or
FCC ID on the label. Class A devices do not have an FCC logo or FCC ID on the label. Once the class of the device is
determined, refer to the following applicable statement.
2.1.2 Class A Equipment
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of
the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the
equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio
frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to
radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference, in
which case the user will be required to correct the interference at personal expense.
2.1.3 Class B Equipment
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of
the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential
installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no
guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful
interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user
is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit that is different from that to which the receiver is connected.
Consult the dealer or an experienced radio or television technician for help.
2.1.4 Modifications
The FCC requires the user to be notified that any changes or modifications made to this device that are not expressly
approved by Seagate may void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
2.1.5 Cables
Connections to this device must be made with shielded cables with metallic RFI/EMI connector hoods in order to
maintain compliance with FCC Rules and Regulations.
2.1.6 Regulatory Model Number
For the purpose of regulatory compliance certifications and identification, your product has been assigned a unique

4.9 Li Battery
This letter goes to Seagate EDS customers.
To: Customers ….
Subject: Classification of Li batteries and Associated Shipping Label
Reference: IATA 2021 Guidance Document - Battery Powered Cargo Tracking Devices / Data Loggers
Lithium-ion batteries (sometimes abbreviated Li-ion batteries) are a secondary (rechargeable) battery where the
lithium is only present in an ionic form in the electrolyte. Also included within the category of lithium-ion batteries are
lithium polymer batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are used in some Seagate controllers and are designated as Class 9 -
Miscellaneous Dangerous Goods
Devices that contain fully regulated lithium cells or batteries are subject to all of the provisions of the DGR, which
includes:
a. dangerous goods training. All persons involved in the preparation and shipping must have completed
appropriate dangerous goods training and must attend recurrent dangerous goods training at intervals not
exceeding 24 months;
b. marks and labels on packages. All packages must be marked with the name and address of the shipper and
consignee, the UN number and proper shipping name. Packages must also bear the Class 9 lithium battery
hazard label (for details see below)
c. documentation. The consignment must be correctly described on a Shipper's Declaration for Dangerous
Goods.
While the designation of "dangerous goods" is dependent on a variety of points and shipment methods, Seagate will
be placing the label as standard on any product that contains a "Lithium" battery
Details:
Packages containing lithium batteries installed in equipment such as a data logger must bear the lithium battery mark
as shown in Figure 7.1.C of the IATA DGR, see Figure 3. The border of the label must have red diagonal hatchings 5 mm
in width with text and symbols in black on a white or contrasting background. The lithium battery mark may be
printed directly on the outer packaging provided that there is sufficient contrast between the elements of the lithium
battery mark and the color of the packaging material. The mark must be in the form of a rectangle or a square with
minimum dimensions are 100 mm x 100mm. Where the packages are of dimensions such that they cannot bear the
full-size lithium battery mark, the mark dimensions may be reduced to 100 mm wide × 70 mm high. The design
specifications otherwise remain the same.
