Electrical Information

These guidelines must be followed to ensure that safety mechanisms in

the design of this freezer will operate properly.

• Refer to the serial plate for correct electrical rating. The power cord of the

appliance is equipped with a three-prong grounding plug for protection against

shock hazards, It must be plugged directly into its own properly grounded three-

prong receptacle, protected with a t 5 amp time delay fuse or circuit breaker. The

receptacle must be installed in accordance with the local codes and ordinances,

Shelf Front

Before starting the freezer, follow these important first steps:

Installation

• Choose a place that isnear agrounded electrical outlet.

• Forthe most efficient operation, the freezer should be located where surrounding

temperatures will not exceed 110°F (43°C). Temperatures of 32°F (0°C)and below

will NOT affect freezer operation, Additional compressor heaters are not recom-

mended.

• Atlow spacearound the unit forgoodaircirculation. Leavea 3 inch (75 mm) space

on attsides of the freezer for adequate circulation,

Leveling

Thefreezer must haveall bottom corners resting firmly on asolid floor, Thefloor must

be strong enough to support afully loaded freezer, Check the cabinet with a levelfrom

side to side. After discarding the crating screws and wood base, level the cabinet.

TOLevel Upright Unit:

Once leveled, slightly raise adjustment of front feet so the door closes easily when

opened about halfway.

To Level Chest Unit:

If needed, add metal or wood shims between feet pads and floor.

Cleaning

• Wash any removable parts, the freezer interior, and exterior with mild detergent

and warm water. Wipe dry. DO NOT USE HARSH CLEANERS ON THESE

SURFACES.

• Donot userazor bladesor other sharp instruments, which canscratchthe appflance

surface when removing adhesive labels, Any glue left from the tape can be

removed with a mixture of warm water and mild detergent, or touch the residue

with the sticky side of tape already removed. DO NOT REMOVE THE SERIAL

PLATE,

Door Removal (upright models)

If door must be removed to fit through narrow doorways:

1, Gently lay freezer on its back, on athrow rug or blanket,

2. Remove basepanel (some models) by unscrewing two screws from front of base

panel, (Figure 1)

3. At top of cabinet, lift up plastic hinge cover and fold

back, (Figure 2)

4. Usea Phillips@screwdriver to loosen and retighten

screws on top hinge to insure a secure assembly and

prevent hinge slippage.

5. Removetop hinge from cabinet. Lift door off lower

hinge pin,

6. After door isremoved, remove the two screws from

bottom hinge,

7. To replace door, reverse above order.

Setting the

Temperature Control

Cool Down Period

Forsafe food storage, allow 4 hours for the freezer to cool down completely, The

freezer will run continuously for the first several hours, Foodsthat are alreadyfrozen

may be placed in the freezer after the first few hours of operation. Unfrozen foods

should NOT be loaded into the freezer until the freezer hasoperated for 4 hours,

When loading the freezer, freeze only 3 pounds of fresh food per cubic foot of

freezer space at one time. Distribute packages to be frozen evenly throughout the

freezer. It isnot necessaryto turn the control knob to a colder setting while freezing

food,

Temperature Control

The temperature control islocated insidethe freezer on upright models, and on the

left outside wail on chest models. The temperature is factory preset to provide

satisfactory food storage temperatures, However, the temperature control is

adjustable to provide a range of temperatures for your personal satisfaction, If a

colder temperature isdesired, turn the temperature control knobtocoldest and allow

several hours for temperatures to stabilize between adjustments.

Become familiar with these features, and their use and care.

Power On Light

The Power On Light indicatesthat the freezer is properly connected to electrical

power, The light glows even when the temperature control isturned to OFF.If the

light goes out, refer to "Freezer does not run r' in the Avoid Service Checklist.

Juice Can Rack (upright models)

The Juice Carl Rack on the freezer door is specially ridged to store juice cans and

prevent them from roiling out of the shelf,

Security Lock with Pop-Out Key

This security lock fastens the door snugly, ensuring stored food issecure, To lock or

unlock the freezer, push the key into the lock and turn. The keypops out of the lock

after it has been turned.

Power Defrost

The Power Defrost feature will defrost freezer in a fraction of the time usuaily

required. To defrost, remove all food, and follow these steps.

1. Pull out Power Defrost Plunger. Leavedoor open while defrosting. (Closing

freezer door will push in plunger and power defrost will be turned off.)

2. PushPower Defrost Plunger in to restart freezer after defrosting iscompleted.

Defrost Drain

The Defrost drain providesa method of draining water during defrosting and cleaning.

See r'Defrosting r' in Care and Cleaning Section.

Interior Light

The tight comes on automatically when the door isopened, To replacethe tight bulb,

turn the temperature control to OFFand unplug the electrical cord. Replacethe old

bulb with a bulb of the same wattage,

Slide-Out Basket (upright models)

Theslide-out basket at the bottom of the freezer providesseparate storage spacefor

items that aredifficult to store on freezer shelves. Toremove the basket, pull out and

lift up.

Slide-Aside Basket (chest models)

Thisbasket helpsorganize odd-sha ped items. Toreachother packages in the freezer,

slide the basket aside or lift out,

Fast Freezing Shelves (upright models)

These shelves contain cooling coils to freeze foods quickly and allow cold air to

constantly circulate throughout the freezer. Do not usesharp metal objects such as

ice picksor scrapersto clean the shelves. Thiscould damage the shelvesand reduce

their cooling ability, These shelves are not adjustable,

Drop Front Shelf (upright models)

The Drop Front Shelf, located at the bottom of the freezer, provides a separate

compartment forsmall irregular shaped itemsor large, bulky items, Liftthe shelf front

up and outto remove.

Care and Cleaning

Damp objects stick to

cold metal surfaces. Do not touch interior

metal surfaces with wet or damp hands.

Some upright freezers are frosbfree and defrost automatically, but should be

cleaned occasionally. Before cleaning or defrosting, unplug the power cord Fromthe

electrical outlet.

Between Defrostings

To avoid frequent defrosting, occasionally use a plastic scraper to remove frost.

Scrape with a pulling motion. Never use a metal instrument to remove frost.

Defrosting

It is important to defrost and clean the freezer when 1/4 to 1/2 inch of frost has

accumulated, Frost may tend to accumulate faster on the upper part of the freezer

due to warm, moist air entering the freezer when the door isopened. Removefood

and leavethe door open when defrosting the freezer,

• On upright models with a defrost drain (Figure 1), remove the drain plug on the

inside floor of the freezer by pulling straight out, To accessthe external drain tube

on models with a base panel, Firstremove the two screws from the base panel,

Locate the drain tube near the left center under the freezer. Placea shallow pan

under the drain tube, Defrost water will drain out. Check pan occasionally sowater

does not overflow. Replace the drain plug when defrosting and cleaning are

completed. If the drain is left open, warm air may enter the freezer.

• On chest models with adefrost drain, placeashallow pan beneath the drain outlet

(Figure 2), A one half inch garden hose adapter can be used to drain the freezer

directly into afloor drain (Figure 3), If your model isnot equipped with an adapter,

one can be purchased at most hardware stores, Pull out the drain plug inside the

Freezer, and pull off the outside defrost drain plug (Figure 4 on following page).

Defrost water will drain out, Check pan occasionally so water does not overflow,

Replace the drain plugs when defrosting iscompleted.

• On models without a defrost drain, placetowels or newspapers on the freezer

bottom to catch the frost. The frost will loosen and fall, Remove towels and/or

newspapers,

• If the frost issoft, remove by using a plastic scraper, If frost isglazed and hard, fill

deep panswith hot water and placethem on the freezer bottom. Closethe freezer

door. Frostshould soften in about t 5 minutes. Repeat this procedure if necessary.

Cleaning the Inside

After defrosting, wash inside surfaces of the freezer with a solution of two

tablespoons of baking soda in one quart (1,136 litres) warm water. Rinse and dry.

Wring excess water out of the sponge or cloth when cleaning in the area of the

controls, or any electrical parts.

Wash the removable parts and door gasketwith the baking sodasolution mentioned

above, or mild detergent and warm water, Rinse and dry. Never use metallic

scouring pads, brushes, abrasive cleaners, or alkaline solutions on any surface. Do

not wash removable parts in a dishwasher.

Cleaning the Outside

Wash the cabinet with warm water and mild liquid detergent. Rinsewell and wipe

dry with a clean soft cloth. Replace parts and food.

Vacation and Moving Tips

Short Vacations: Leavethe freezer operating during vacations of lessthan three

weeks,

Long Vacations: If the freezer will not be usedfor several months, remove atlfood

and unplug the power cord, Clean and dry the interior thoroughly, To prevent

odor and mold growth, leave the freezer door open slightly, blocking it open if

necessary.

Moving: Disconnectthepowercord plugfromthewalloutlet, Removefoods, then

defrost, and clean the freezer, Secureatl looseitems such asbasepanel, baskets,

and shelves by taping them securely in place to prevent damage, Inthe moving

vehicle, secure freezer in an upright position, and secure to prevent movement.

Also protect outside of freezer with a blanket, or similar item.

Power Failure/

Freezer Failure

Do not open freezer door

unnecessarily if freezer is

off for severa hours.

If a power failure occurs, frozen foods will stayfrozen for at least 24 hours if the

freezer iskept closed, If the power failure continues, pack seven or eight pounds

of dry iceinto the freezer every 24 hours, Look in the Yellow Pagesunder "Dry tce,"

"Dairies," or "Ice Cream Manufacturers" for local dry ice suppliers. Always wear

gloves and use caution when handling dry ice.

If the freezer has stopped operating, see "Freezer does not run r, in the Avoid

Service Checklist Section of this manual. [f you cannot solve the problem, call an

authorized servicer immediately.

If the freezer remains off for several hours, follow the directions above for the use

of dry ice during a power failure, If necessary,take the food to a local locker plant

until the freezer isready to operate. Look in the Yellow Pagesunder "Frozen Food

Locker Plants."

Energy Saving Ideas

• The freezer should be located in the coolest area of the room, away from heat

producing appliances or heating ducts, and out of direct sunlight,

• Let hot foods cool to room temperature before placing in the freezer.

Overloading the freezer forces the compressor to run longer. Foodsthat freeze

too slowly may lose quality, or spoil,

• Besure to wrap foods properly, and wipe containers dry before placing them in

the freezer, This cuts down on frost build-up inside the freezer.

• Freezer shelves should not be lined with aluminum foil, wax paper, or paper

toweling, Liners interfere with cold air circulation, making the freezer less

efficient.

• Organize and label food to reduce door openings and extended searches.

Remove as many items as needed at one time, and close the door as soon as

possible.

accordance with all local plumbing, electrical and/or gas codes.

3. Proper connection to a grounded power supply of sufficient voltage, replacement of blown fuses, repair of loose

connections or defects in house wiring.

Avant de mettre en marche le congelateur, prenez connaissance des

points suivants:

Installation

Choisissez un endroit pres drune prise raise a la terre,

Pour assurer un fonctionnement des plus efficace, placez le congelateur aun endroit

ou les temperatures ambiantes ne depasseront pas 43C (110 F), Lestemperatures

moins de Q°C (32°F) ne changont pas le fonctionnement du cong@lateur, Les

appareiB de chauffage suppl_mentafres pour le compresseur ne sont pas

recommand_es.

Laissezun espacede 75 mm (3 pouces) de chac Je cote du congelateur pour assurer

une bonne circulation de l'air.

Mise b niveau

Le congelateur doit avoir ses quatre coins inferieurs reposant fermement sur un

_lancher solide_ Le plancher doit etre assez resistant pour supporter un corlgelateur

plein. Verifiez la caisse avec un niveau, d'un cote a I'autre. Apres avoirjete le socle

en bois et les vis ayant servi a I'expedition, mettez la caisse a niveau:

Nettoyage

Nettoyez toutes les pieces amovibles ainsi que I'interieur et I'exterieur avec de

I'eau tiede et un detergent doux, Essuyez. N'UTILESEZ PAS D'ABRASIFS

PUISSANTS SUR CES SURFACES.

Pour enlever les etiquettes adhesives, nrutilJsez pas de lame de rasoJr ou autre

instrument tranchant risquant de rayer le fini, Enlevez la colle restante du ruban

ou de I'etiquette sur I'energie avec un melange d'eau tiede et de detergent doux

ou bien avec le cote collant du ruban ou de I'etiquette enlevee

N'ENLEVEZ PAS LA PLAQUE SIGNALCTIQUE,

Depose de la porte (modelesverticaux)

Pour entever ta porte s'fl faut passer dans des couloirs etroits:

1. Placez doucement le congelateur sur I'arriere en le reposant sur une couverture

ou un tapis,

2. Enlevez le panneau inf0rieur (certains modeles) en devissant les deux vis de

I'avant du panneau (figure 1),

3. En haut de la caisse, enlevez le couvre charniere en plastique et rabattez le

(figure 2),

4. A I aide drun tournevis Phillips®, desserrez puis resserrez les vis sur la charniere

superieure pour que Irensemble soit bien fixe et que la charniere ne glisse pas,

5. Enlevez la charniere superieure de la caisse et sortez la porte de Iraxe de

charniere inf0rieure,

6, Une lois la porte enlevee, enlevez ]es deux vis de la charniere inferieure.

7. Pour remettre en place la porte, inversez les

completement pendant 4 heures Le congelateur fonctionnera continuellement les

quelques premieres heures, Les aliments doja congeles peuvent etre places darts le

congelateur apres les premieres heures de fonctionnement, Les aliments non

congeles NE devraient PAS etre ranges dans le congelateur tant qu'il nra pas

fonctionne pendant 4 heures,

Lorsque vous remplissez le congelateur, ne congelez que 3 Ib d'aliments par pied

cube d'espace de congelateur en une seule foB, Repartissezles paquets darts tout

le congelateur, II n'est pas necessairede tourner le bouton de commande 8 un

reglage plus froid Iors de la congelation des aliments

Commande de temperature

La commande de temperature est situee a Irinterieur sur les modeles verticaux et sur

la paroi externe gauche des modeles horizontaux, Cette commande a ete prereglee

en usine des temperatures satisfaisantes de conservation. Le bouton de commande

est reglable selon une gamme de temperatures correspondant avos besoins

personnels. Si vous desirez une temperature plus basse, se stabilisent apres le

reglage

Le degivrage eclair

Le degivrage eclair permet le degivrage du congelateur en une fraction du temps

habituellement necessaire, Pour degivrer, enlevez toute la nourriture et suivez ces

etapes:

1. Tirez le poussoir du degivrage eclair, Laissez la porte ouverte Iors du

degivrage, (La fermeture du couvercle du congelateur enfonce le poussoir

en arretant le degivrage eclair,)

2. Appuyez sur le poussoir du degivrage eclair pour remettre en marche le

congelateur apres le degivrage,

Vidange de I'eau de degivrage

Cette vidange permet a I'eau de s'ecouler lots du degivrage et du nettoyage Voyez

Degivrage darts le chapitre Entretien et Nettoyage,

I_clairage interieur

La lampe s'allume automatiquement a I'ouverture de la porte Pour remplacer

I'ampoule, tournez la commande detemperature sur <<OFF>>(ARRET)et debranchez

le cordon. Remplacez I'ampoule par une autre de meme puissance,

Panier coulissant (modeles verticaux)

Le panier couNssant, au bas du congelateur, permet de ranger separement les

articles difFiciles 8 poser sur les clayettes. Pour I'enlever, tirez-le et soulevez-le.

clayettes, Vous risqueriez de les endommager et de reduire leur capacite a refroidir, Ces

clayettes ne sont pas reglables

Retenue d'aliments en vrac (modblesverticaux)

La retenue d'alirnents en vrac, situee en bas du congelateur, offre un cornpartiment

separe pour les articles volumineux ou de formes irregulieres Soulevez la retenue pour

avoir acces au compartiment,

Entretien et nettoyage

Entre les d_givrages

Pour eviter le degivrage frequent, enlevez de temps a autre le givre a I'aide d'un

grattoir en plastique Grattez en remontant, Ne vous servez jamais drinstrument

metallique,

Degivrage

IIest important de degivrer et de nettoyer le congelateur des presence de 6 a 12 rnrn

(1/4 a 1/2 pouce) de givre, Le givre s'accumule plus rapidement sur la partie superieure

du congelateur par suite de I'entree d'air humide et tiede Iorsque la porte ou le couvercle

est ouvert, Enlevez la nourriture et laissez la porte ou le couvercle ouvert Iors du

degivrage

Sur les modeles verticaux avec vidange de Ireau de degivrage (figure 1), enlevez

le bouchon de vidange au fond du congelateur en le tirant vers vous. Le tuyau de

vidange est situe pres du centre gauche sous le congelateur, derriere le panneau

inferieur. Placez un plat creux sous le tuyau de vidange, Lreau du degivrage va sry

ecouler Verifiez de temps a autre que I'eau ne deborde pas. Remettez le bouchon

en place Iorsque degivrage et nettoyage sont termines Si la vidange est restee

ouverte, de Irair chaud peut entrer dans le congelateur,

Sur les modeles horizontaux avec vidange de I'eau de degivrage, placez un

recipient creux ou le diviseur/plateau de degivrage (fourni avec certains modeles)

sous I'orifice de vidange (figure 2), Un adaptateur de tuyau dejardin d'un demi

pouce peut servira vidanger le congelateur directement dansun drain de plancher

(figure 3). Sivotre modele n'est pas muni d'un adaptateur, veuillez en acheter un

n'importe quelle quincaillerie. Sortez la bonde a I'interieur du congelateur et

enlevezle bouchon devidangeexterieur (figure 4), L'eaudu degivragevas'ecouler,

Verifiez de temps a autre que Ireaune deborde pas. Remettezen placele bouchon

de vidange et la bonde une lois le degivrage termine,

Sur les modeles sans vidange de I'eau de degivrage, placez des serviettes ou

]ournaux au fond du congelateur pour retenir le givre, Le givre vase detacher et

tomber, Enlevez les serviettes et/ou lesjournaux,

rester emprisonnes a I'interieur.

Si le givre est mou, enlevez lea I'aide drun grattoir plastique, Sril est dur et brillant,

remplissez de profonds recipients avec de Ireau chaude et placez les au fond du

congelateur, Fermez le congelateur. Le givre devrait se ramollir en 15 minutes

environ, Au besoin, repetez cette derniere operation.

Nettoyage de I'interieur

Apres le degivrage, nettoyez les surfaces internes du congelateur avec une solution

composee de deux cuilleres a soupe de bicarbonate de soude dans 1 litre (1 pint@ dreau

tiede, Rincezetsechez. Essorezbienvotrechiffon ouvotreeponge pour nettoyerautour

des commandes ou des pieces electriques,

Lavez les pieces amovibles et lejoint de la porte avec une solution de bicarbonate de

soude comme ci dessus, ou de Ireau tiede additionnee de detergent doux. Rincez et

sechez. N'utilisezjamais de tampon a recurer metallique, brosse, produit nettoyant

abrasif ou solution alcaline sur une surface du congelateur, quelle qurelle soit. Ne lavez

pas les parties amovibles darts un lave vaisselle,

Nettoyage de I'exterieur

Lavezla caisse a I'eau tiede additionnee de detergent liquide doux, Rincez bien et sechez

avec un linge propre et doux Remettez en place les pieces et la nourriture.

Conseils de vacances et demenagement

Courtes vacances: Laissez le congelateur fonctionner pendant des conges de une 8

trois sernaines,

Longues vacances: Si le congelateur n'est pas utilise pendant plusieurs mois, enlevez

toute la nournture et debranchez le cordon. Nettoyez et sechez I'interieur

soigneusement, Laissez la porte ou le couvercle legerement ouvert en bloquant au

besoin, pour empecher moisissure et odeur.

Demenagement: Debranchez le cordon. Enlevez toute le nourriture, degivrez le

congelateur et nettoyez le, A I'aide du ruban, attachez les pieces movables aux

congelateur pourempecher dommage. Danslevehicule, lecongelateur doitetre darts

une position verticaux, Assurez la securite du congelateur, pour empecher le

rrlouverrlent. Couvrez I'exterieur avec une couverture, ou autre article similaire, pour

proteger le

En cas de panne de courant, les aliments resteront congeles au moins 24 heures si le

congelateur reste ferme. Si la panne continue, placez sept ou huit livres de glace seche

Conseils pour

economiser I'energie

Placez le congelateur dans I'endroit le plus froid de la piece, eloigne de la lumiere

du soleil et des conduits de chauffage ou appareils producteurs de chaleur.

Laissez les aliments chauds refroidir a la temperature de la piece avant de les ranger

dans le congelateur, La surcharge du congelateur oblige le compresseur a

[onctionner plus Iongtemps. Les aliments qui congelent trop doucement risquent

de perdre leur qualite ou de se gater.

Enveloppez correctement lesaliments et essuyez lescontenants avant de les ranger

dans le congelateur, Ceci diminue la condensation a I'interieur du congelateur,

Lesclayettes ne devraient pas etre recouvertes de papier aluminium, papier cite ou

essuie tout. Ces revetements entravent la circulation de I'air froid, ce qui diminue

I'efficacite du congelateur,

Rangez bien les aliments et etiquetez les pour reduire les ouvertures et les

recherches prolongees, Prenez autant d'articles que possible en meme temps et
