This instrument is not permitted to be used in hazardous areas!
The instrument has been designed and built solely for the
intended use described here, and may only be used accordingly.
The technical specifications contained in these operating
instructions must be observed. Improper handling or operation of
the instrument outside of its technical specifications requires the
instrument to be taken out of service immediately and inspected
by an authorised WIKA service engineer.
The manufacturer shall not be liable for claims of any type based
on operation contrary to the intended use.

Skilled personnel
Skilled personnel, authorised by the operator, are understood to
be personnel who, based on their technical training, knowledge
of measurement and control technology and on their experience
and knowledge of country-specific regulations, current standards
and directives, are capable of carrying out the work described and
independently recognising potential hazards.
Special operating conditions require further appropriate
knowledge, e.g. of aggressive media.
4. Transport, packaging and storage
4.1 Transport
Check the instrument for any damage that may have been caused
by transport. Obvious damage must be reported immediately.
CAUTION!
Damage through improper transport
With improper transport, a high level of damage to
property can occur.
When unloading packed goods upon delivery as well
as during internal transport, proceed carefully and
observe the symbols on the packaging.
With internal transport, observe the instructions in
chapter 4.2 “Packaging and storage”.
4.2 Packaging and storage
Do not remove packaging until just before mounting.
Keep the packaging as it will provide optimum protection during
transport (e.g. change in installation site, sending for repair).

Permissible conditions at the place of storage:
Storage temperature: 0 ... 70 °C
Humidity: 35 ... 85 % relative humidity (no condensation)
Avoid exposure to the following factors:
Direct sunlight or proximity to hot objects
Mechanical vibration, mechanical shock (putting it down hard)
Soot, vapour, dust and corrosive gases
Hazardous environments, flammable atmospheres
Store the instrument in its original packaging in a location that
fulfils the conditions listed above. If the original packaging is not
available, pack and store the instrument as described below:
1. Wrap the instrument in a plastic film.
2. Place the instrument, along with shock-absorbent material and
the stem protector (if accompanying), in the packaging.
3. If stored for a prolonged period of time (more than 30 days),
place a bag containing a desiccant inside the packaging.

WARNING!
Physical injuries and damage to property and the
environment caused by hazardous media
Upon contact with hazardous media (e.g. oxygen,
acetylene, flammable or toxic substances), harmful
media (e.g. corrosive, toxic, carcinogenic, radioactive),
and also with refrigeration plants and compressors, there
is a danger of physical injuries and damage to property
and the environment. Aggressive media with extremely
high temperatures and under high pressure or vacuum
may be present at the instrument.
For these media, in addition to all standard
regulations, the appropriate existing codes or
regulations must also be followed.
WARNING!
Physical injury and damage to the instrument
through hot surfaces and improper use
In operation, the thermometer can become very hot and
should not be subjected to any mechanical loading.
Do not touch the thermometer when in operation.
Thermometers must not be used for any purpose
other than for the intended use described.
Do not use the thermometer as a hand or foot hold.
CAUTION!
Physical injury through defective glass inserts
The glass insert is fragile and can lead to cut injuries.
Do not apply any pressure to the glass inserts.
Replace instruments with defective glass inserts.
Avoid touching with fingers.

Prior to installation, check whether the wetted materials of the
instrument are suitable for the medium.
The materials used can be found on the delivery documentation.
5.1 Indicator
The scale divisions are permanently imprinted onto the glass
insert and consist of main and sub-divison lines. These form the
reference to the measuring range printed on the case. The exact
reading of the temperature is made by the level of the
thermometric liquid in the capillary, the column. This is made
easier by the sub-division lines. In order to ensure an optimal
reading of the temperature, the eyes should be at the same height
as the thermometer. Thus the viewing angle will be from the front.
In this way, the indicator liquid is optically enlarged.
Magnification of the indicator liquid when looking at the
thermometer from the front.

5.3 Mounting
WARNING!
Damage to property and the environment through
unsuitable sealing materials
Hot media might escape if unsuitable sealing material is
used. This can cause damage to the plant and pollution
of the environment.
Use a sealing material that is suitable for the
temperature range, and that is resistant to the medium
being measured.
Before mounting
Before starting the work, make sure that the conditions for
mounting the thermometer are met:
The plant is disconnected and free from pressure.
The plant has cooled down to ambient temperature.
There is a male thread at a suitable position in the plant.
A suitable sealing material is used.
Only use suitable, correctly sized tools for mounting.

5.3.3 Fixing via the connection design (option)
Design 3, union nut
The standard version of the machine glass thermometer is design
E (male thread) This has a male thread which is available in
various thread types. With design 3 (union nut), the stems have a
union nut with corresponding female thread. The stem length and
thread types are already designed for use with thermowells.
The preceding mounting instructions are illustrated with design
E (male thread). The mounting of instruments with design 3
(union nut) is carried out with the same mounting steps. The only
difference is that, instead of the male thread, a corresponding
thermowell is built in to the plant or machinery.
