Inputs and outputs
The PowerCage 401 FOX DT HD includes two independent HDMI video inputs and two independent audio inputs. The
PowerCage 401 FOX DR HD includes two independent HDMI video outputs and two independent audio outputs.
NOTE: Use Extron LockIt
™
Lacing Bracket to secure HDMI cables to the
HDMI connectors (see the image to the right for basic instructions).
1. Connect video inputs or outputs as follows:
• For either input on the transmitter, connect a digital video source to the
HDMI input connector (see figure 1,
A
on the previous page).
• For either output on the receiver, connect a digital display to the HDMI
output connector (
C
).
2. Connect audio inputs or outputs as follows:
• For unbalanced, stereo audio input, connect an audio source to the 3.5 mm mini stereo
connector (
B
) for either input on the transmitter.
• To output unbalanced, stereo or mono audio, connect an audio output device to the 3.5 mm mini
stereo connectors (
D
) for either output on the receiver.

NOTES:
• Ensure the proper ber cable is used. Typically, singlemode ber optic cables have a yellow jacket
and multimode ber optic cables have an orange or aqua jacket.
• Transmission of HDMI video with HDCP content requires a return ber optic cable from the
receiving device to the transmitting device.
1. Connect a ber cable between the Tx port on the transmitter and the Rx port on the receiver (
E
on the
previous page and the image to the right).
2. If necessary, connect a ber cable from the Tx port on the receiver to another device in one of the
following methods:
• To return serial data (such as response from a controlled device) to the transmitter, connect a cable
between the Tx port on the receiver and Rx port on the transmitter (see the image to the right).
• To connect up to ten receivers to a transmitter, connect the Tx port on the receiver to the Rx port on
another receiver (see image below) and enable daisy chain mode with SIS commands or the Product
Conguration Software (see the PowerCage 401 FOX DT HD and PowerCage 401 FOX DR HD User
Guide at www.extron.com).

NOTE: Daisy chain mode works with non-HDCP sources only.
3. To pass serial data between a control device and a controlled device (such as control of a projector), connect the desired
type of device to the RS-232 connector on the transmitter or receiver (
F
). See the PowerCage 401 Enclosure User Guide at
www.extron.com to change the RS-232 protocol. The default RS-232 protocol is as follows:
• 9600 baud • No parity • 8 data bits
• 1 stop bit • No ow control
Operation
After all receivers, transmitters, and their related devices are connected and powered, the system is fully operational. If any
problems are encountered, verify the cables are routed and connected properly and that all display devices have identical
resolutions and refresh rates. If problems persist, call the Extron S3 Sales & Technical Support Hotline.
To congure and control the PowerCage 401 FOX DT HD and PowerCage 401 FOX DR HD, use the Extron Product Conguration
Software, Extron Simple Instruction Set (SIS™) commands, or the internal Web page with the PowerCage 401 enclosure.
