1. If desired, install the FOX T/R USB Extender Plus transmitter and receiver in a rack or under or through furniture, following the
instructions supplied with the optional mounting kit.
2. Power off the host computer and ensure that the transmitter, receiver, and all peripheral devices are powered off.
3. Connect the ber optic cable appropriate for your extender
model (singlemode or multimode) from the Tx port of the
transmitter LC SFP connector to the Rx port of the receiver.
4. Connect AC power to the provided external power supplies
and connect the power supply cables to the 2-pole captive
screw power connectors on the transmitter and receiver rear
panels. The Power LEDs (
A
) and Link LEDs (
E
) on both units
light to indicate a proper link cable connection between units.
5. Connect a USB type A-to-type B cable from the host computer
to the Input Host connector of the transmitter. The Host LEDs
(
C
) on both units begin to blink.
6. Connect up to four USB cables from peripheral devices (for
example, a keyboard, mouse, or web cam) to the receiver
Output Hub ports (the order of connection does not matter). As
soon as a peripheral device is connected, both Host LEDs (
C
)
light steadily. As each peripheral is connected, the Hub LED
(
D
) for its port lights when the device is detected.
NOTES:
• The FOX R USB Extender Plus can supply up to 0.5 A to each connected peripheral.
• The FOX T USB Extender Plus models are not compatible with the original FOX USB Extenders.
Connecting to a FOX Matrix Switcher
The FOX T/R USB Extender Plus can work with an Extron FOX
matrix switcher. Multiple transmitters and receivers can be
connected to switcher inputs and outputs that are tied together
(see the example at right). This enables you to switch a signal
from a transmitter to different receivers without disconnecting and
reconnecting the ber optic cable.
To route the USB signals through the switcher, follow the procedure
described above, substituting the following for step 3:
3. Connect one or more transmitters and receivers to the inputs
and outputs of the FOX matrix switcher as follows:
a. Connect a ber optic cable from the Tx port of the LC SFP
connector on the transmitter to an input on the FOX matrix
switcher.
b. Connect the Tx ports of one more receivers to switcher
outputs.
c. Tie the switcher input that is connected to the transmitter
to the outputs that are connected to the receivers (see the
switcher user guide to create ties between switcher inputs
and outputs).
d. If desired, repeat steps a through c to connect additional
transmitters and receivers to the switcher.
Operation
When the transmitter, receiver, switcher (if connected), and peripheral devices are powered up, the transmitter automatically
pairs with the receiver. Transmitters and receivers connected to switcher inputs and outputs that are tied together automatically
pair with each other. The system is now fully operational. If any problems occur, verify that the cables are routed and connected
properly. If problems persist, call Extron S3 Sales & Technical Support Hotline at the number shown below that is closest to you.
