FindthenetworktowhichyouplantoaddyourAPsorcreateanewnetwork.

youordereddirectlyfromMeraki)ortheserialnumberofeachAP,whichlookslikeQxxxxxxxxxxx,

CheckandUpgradeFirmware
ToensureyourMR57HWperformsoptimallyimmediatelyfollowinginstallation,Merakirecommendsthat
youfacilitateafirmwareupgradepriortomountingyourMR57HW.

TheMR57HWwillturnonandthePowerLEDwillglowsolidorange.Iftheunitdoesnotrequirea

AssigningIPAddressestoMR57HWs
AllgatewayMR57HWs(MR57HWswithEthernetconnectionstotheLAN)mustbeassignedroutableIP
addresses.
TheseIPaddressescanbedynamicallyassignedviaDHCPorstaticallyassigned.
3.4.1
DynamicAssignment
WhenusingDHCP,theDHCPservershouldbeconfiguredtoassignastaticIPaddressforeachMAC
address
belongingtoaMerakiAP.Otherfeaturesofthewirelessnetworksuchas802.1xauthentication,
mayrelyonthe
propertythattheAPshavestaticIPaddresses.
3.4.2
StaticAssignment
StaticIPsareassignedusingthelocalwebserveroneachAP.Thefollowingproceduredescribeshowto

Usingaclientmachine(e.g.alaptop),connecttotheAPeitherwirelessly(byassociatingtoany
SSID
broadcastbytheAP)oroverawiredconnection.

PoEInjector.IfusingaPoEswitch,pluganEthernetcableintotheMR57HW’sEthernetjack,

Clickonthe“StaticIPConfiguration”tab. Login. Thedefaultusernameis“admin”. Thedefault
passwordis

wiredconnection.

InsteadofassociatingtoeachMerakiAPindividuallytoconfigurestaticIPaddresses,anadministratorcanassign

ChooseYourMountingLocation
AgoodmountinglocationisimportanttogettingthebestperformanceoutofyourMR57HW
accesspoint.
Keepthefollowinginmind:
1.
Thedeviceshouldhaveunobstructedlineofsighttomostcoverageareas.Forexample,if
installing
in
anofficefilledwithworkspacesdividedbymidheightcubiclewalls,installingonthe
ceilingorhigh
onawallwouldbeideal.
2.
PoweroverEthernetsupportsamaximumcablelengthof300ft(100m).
3.
Ifbeingusedinameshdeployment,theMR57HWshouldhavelineofsighttoatleasttwoother
Meraki

InstalltheMR57HW
Formostmountingscenarios,theMR57HWmountplateprovidesaquick,simple,andflexiblemeansof
mounting
yourdevice.Theinstallationshouldbedoneintwosteps.First,installthemountplatetoyour
selectedlocation.
Then,attachtheMR57HWtothemountplate.

AttachtheMountPlate
TheMR57HWmountplatecanbeusedtoinstallyouraccesspointinawiderangeofscenarios:wallor
solid
ceiling,belowadropceiling,onvariouselectricaljunctionboxes,oraboveadropceiling(inthe
plenum).
Themountplatecontainsavarietyofholepatternsthatarecustomizedforeachinstallationscenario.The
mountingtemplate(includedinboxwithmountplate)shouldbeusedtodrillholesforwallmountsandalso
to
identifythecorrectholepatternsinthemountplatethatshouldbeusedforeachtypeofmount.

Verifyaccesspointconnectivity
Useany802.11clientdevicetoconnecttotheMR57HWandverifyproperconnectivityusingthe

Confirmthatyouhavegoodsignalstrengththroughoutyourcoveragearea.Youcanusethesignal
