Introduction
Thank you for purchasing AudioQuest's PowerQuest
G8
Power Conditioner/
Surge Protector.
Most
AC
power surge protectors are 3-mode surge-suppression devices.
Though these may guard against catastrophic power surges,
they
can also
allow even modest transient-power spikes
to
dissipate via
the
electrical
AC
ground. This
is
significant since
no
surge protection technology dissipates
the
incoming surge/spike
to
either zero volts
or
amps. Most
AC
powerline surges
or
spikes are
frequent-and
they are
not
catastrophic.
In fact, transient-power spikes
can
occur dozens
of
times daily in any home
or
office
with
standard
utility
power. Appliances and machinery often generate
these power spikes, and, when they occur, a typical 3-mode protection device
can send
the
remaining electrical energy
to
an
audio/video component's circuit
ground. Over time, this
can
cause incremental damage
to
the
component's
delicate surface-mount circuit chips.
PowerQuest's Micro-Spike Technology prevents this from happening while
also protecting your valuable system from catastrophic power surges.
Safety Information I Warnings
Before operating
the
PowerQuest
G8,
please read and observe all safety and
operating instructions. Retain these instructions
for
future reference.
Do
not
disassemble or in any
way
modify
the
PQ
GS. There are
no
user-
serviceable parts inside.
Keep
away
from moisture and avoid excessive humidity.
Do
not
allow liquids
or
foreign objects
to
enter
the
unit.
Servicing I Return
to
AudioQuest
Servicing
ofthe
PQ
G8
must be performed
by
AudioQuest and
is
only
required
when:
The
PQ
G8
has
been exposed
to
rain, flooding, or extreme moisture.
The
PQ
G8
does
not
appear
to
operate normally.
(See
"Trouble-Shooting Guide:')
The
PQ
G8
has
been dropped and sustained considerable physical damage.
If
sending
the
PQ
G8
to
AudioQuest
for
servicing (or shipping
it
for
any reason),
please use bubble wrap or other professional packaging materials
so
that
it
may arrive safely.
If
you have questions regarding
the
packaging requirements
or best practices, please contact AudioQuest.
·Power Source
Ideally,
the
power source
to
which
the
PQ
G8
is
connected should be adequate
for
use
at
120VAC
single-phase nominal voltage,
15
amps (current capacity
RMS)
.
However,
the
PQ
G8
will
operate very well
with
a
120VAC
20-amp service outlet.
For
proper
operation,
the
PQ
G8 requires a safety
ground
(supplied via
the
power
utility
AC
wall outlet). When
the
G8
power
switch
is
engaged,
the
green
"Grounded"
indicator
will
light.
If
it
fails
to
do
so,
there is
no
ground
present
at
the
service
power
outlet.
Operation
Plug
the
attached
AC
cord
into
a 120VAC 50/60Hz
power
outlet,
then
set
the
red breaker/power switch (located
on
the
side
by
the
power
cord's chassis
entrance)
to
"Reset:' When
doing
so,
both
the
"Grounded" and "Protected"
indicators
will
light.
The G8
is
ready
for
use.

Trouble-Shooting Guide
There
is
no power
to
any
of
the
AC
outlets.
Is
the
breaker/power switch set
to
"Reset"?
Is
the
input
AC
cord properly plugged
into
the wall
AC
service outlet?
Is
the
wall's
AC
outlet
functioning properly?
Plug another component, product,
or
lamp
into
the
wall
outlet
to
verify
that
power
is
present and
that
the
electrical panel's circuit breaker
has
not
tripped.
If
there are
only
one
or
two
AC
outlets
that
have
no
output
power, a
component
may be malfunctioning.
Test
the
AC
output
with
a simple known device such
as
a lamp.
Is
the 15-amp circuit breaker tripped?
On
the side panel, near the power cord, there
is
one 15-amp circuit breaker/power
switch.
It
should be set
to
"Reset:' Though
it
is
quite unlikely,
if
the switch will
not
stay in the
Reset
position, a large appliance
or
a defective component may
be experiencing a short circuit.
If
this were
to
occur, this circuit breaker/power
switch will disconnect, thus saving the
PQ
G8
and its connected equipment.
If
you discover
that
one
or
multiple
products activate
the
circuit breaker,
check the current consumption rating
of
that/those products. (Typically,
this information can be
found
on the last page
of
the
component's owner's
manual;
it
should be listed
as
the
power
consumption
at
120VAC.)
The current
specification will typically be in watts. Know
that
15
amps
at
120VAC
equals
1800 watts.
(You
will
want
to
be
at
least slightly under
that
number.)
The"Protected" red indicator
is
no longer lit
and/or
none
of
the
diagnostics
listed above have yielded
success.
The surge protection
is
likely damaged
or
sacrificed its life
to
protect your
connected equipment. The
unit
must be replaced.
My
home
or
grounds were
hit
by lightning. The PQ
GS
seems
to
be
functioning properly. Should
it
be
sent in for inspection
or
service?
If
you
see
or
smell smoke coming
from
the
unit,
it
needs service
or
replacement.
Otherwise,
if
it
functions after such an event (which
is
very likely),
the
unit
is
fine.
If
it
fails after such
an
event,
it
will
fail totally, and
the
unit
will
cease
to
output
AC
power. The "protected" indicator will
not
light
as
well.

PowerQuest G8 Performance Enhancer/Surge Protector
The Quest Group Product Limited 5-Year Warranty
The Quest Group warrants to the original purchaser of any The Quest Group PowerQuest G8
Performance Enhancer/Surge Protector with a 5-year limited warranty for the product that the
PowerQuest G8 Performance Enhancer/Surge Protector shall be free of defects in design, assembly,
material, or workmanship, and will repair or replace, at its option, any defective product free of charge.
The Quest Group Connected Equipment Protection Warranty
The Quest Group warrants to the original purchaser of any The Quest Group PowerQuest G8
Performance Enhancer/Surge Protector connected equipment coverage for ve (5) years from the date
of purchase, up to $500,000.00. The Quest Group will repair or replace, at its option, any equipment
which is damaged by a transient voltage surge/spike or lightning strike that contacts the connected
component via the AC line. Such an “Occurrence” is covered while the Quest Group PowerQuest G8 is
properly wired via the building’s AC power line (outlet), with a protective ground.
Power surges or spikes via an incoming signal line are not applicable to this warranty. Best protection for
incoming cable, ethernet, or satellite signal line is to Earth ground such signal wiring to the building’s
principal Earth ground rod or electrical buss, before the signal line enters the building or connects to
your equipment.
Equipment Warranties
The fair market value of the equipment shall be the current value of the equipment specied in the
most recent edition of the Orion Blue Book by Orion Research Corporation. Subject to all terms and
conditions contained here. This warranty in no way guarantees the recovery of lost data on your hard
drive. The Quest Group reserves the right to review the damaged The Quest Group PowerQuest G8
Performance Enhancer/Surge Protector, the damaged equipment, and the site where the damage
occurred. All costs of shipping The Quest Group PowerQuest G8 Performance Enhancer/Surge Protector
and the damaged equipment to The Quest Group for inspection shall be borne solely by the purchaser.
The Quest Group reserves the right to negotiate the cost of repairs. If The Quest Group determines,
in its sole discretion, that it is impractical to ship the damaged equipment to The Quest Group repair
center, The Quest Group may designate, in its sole discretion, an equipment repair facility to inspect and
estimate the cost to repair such equipment. The cost, if any, of shipping the equipment to and from such
repair facility and of such estimate shall be borne solely by the purchaser. Damaged equipment must
remain available for inspection until the claim is nalized.
Whenever claims are settled, The Quest Group reserves the right to be subrogated under any existing
insurance policies the claimant may have. All above warranties are null and void if The Quest Group
PowerQuest G8 Performance Enhancer/ Surge Protector in use during the Occurrence is not provided
to MHHC Enterprises, Inc. for inspection upon MHHC Enterprises, Inc.s request at the sole expense of
the purchaser; MHHC Enterprises, Inc. determines that The Quest Group PowerQuest G8 Performance
Enhancer/ Surge Protector has been improperly installed, altered in any way or tampered with; MHHC
Enterprises, Inc. determines that the damage did not result from the Occurrence or that no Occurrence in
fact took place; the repair or replacement of the damaged equipment is covered under a manufacturer’s
warranty; or The Quest Group determines that the connected equipment was not used under normal
operating conditions or in accordance with any labels or instructions.
All The Quest Group PowerQuest G8 Performance Enhancer/Surge Protector devices must be plugged
directly into the power source and must not be “daisy-chained” together in series fashion with other
power strips, power conditioners, regenerators, UPS battery back-up devices, or other surge protectors
or extension cords. A three-to-two-prong adapter may not be used. Any such installation voids the
warranty.
The Quest Group Connected Equipment Warranty only protects against damage to properly connected
equipment where The Quest Group has determined, in its sole discretion, that the damage resulted
from an Occurrence, and does not protect against acts of God (other than lightning, such as ood,
earthquake), war, vandalism, theft, normal-use wear and tear, erosion, depletion, obsolescence, abuse,
damage due to low-voltage disturbances (i.e. brown outs or sap), non-authorized program, or system
equipment modication or alteration. The Quest Group PowerQuest G8 Performance Enhancer/Surge
Protector warranty is null and void if a power disturbance that damages your equipment occurs through
the phone or network lines. You are only covered if the disturbance entered through the AC lines.
Please note: This product is not for use with aquatic items like aquariums and other water product
classes and or all other water-related products. Generators and sump pumps are excluded for use with
this product. Use only indoors and in dry locations.
This warranty contains the sole warranty of The Quest Group, there are no other warranties, expressed
or, except as required by law, implied, including the implied warranty or condition of quality,
merchantability or tness for a particular purpose, and such implied warranties, if any, are limited in
duration to the term of this warranty.
Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations
may not apply to you. In no event shall The Quest Group be liable for incidental, special, direct, indirect,
and consequential or multiple damages such as, but not limited to, lost business or prots arising out of
the sale or use of any The Quest Group PowerQuest G8 Performance Enhancer/Surge Protector, even if
accused of the possibility of such damages.
This warranty gives you specic legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which may vary
from state to state. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential
damage, so the above limitations may not apply to you.
This warranty is valid only for the original purchaser of the product. All damage claims against
the product must be made within fteen (15) days from the date of the occurrence and must be
accompanied by a receipt for the damaged equipment or the warranty is void. Warranty is valid in USA,
