INTRODUCTION
The 880/1,760 lb Electric Cable Hoist suitable for moderate lifting tasks in
the garage or workshop. The control has a simple up/down rocker switch.
The stop bracket will automatically cut power to the hoist to prevent a
collision with the workpiece when lifting.
SAFETY

and/or damage to the equipment.
Keep this manual for safety warnings, precautions, operating or inspection
and maintenance instructions.
WORK AREA
1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well-
lit and free of distractions. Place lights so you are not working in a
shadow.
2. Keep anyone not wearing the appropriate safety equipment away from
the work area.
3. Store unused tools properly in a safe and dry location to prevent rust
or damage. Lock tools away and keep out of the reach of children.
4. Do not install or use in the presence of flammable gases, dust or
liquids.
PERSONAL SAFETY
WARNING! Wear personal protective equipment approved by the Canadian
Standards Association (CSA) or American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side
protection for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply with
CSA Z94.3-07 or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work
performed.
2. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or to
reduce the effects of tool vibration.
a. Do not wear gloves when operating a tool that can snag the
material and pull the hand into the tool.
3. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool.

4. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in
the work environment.
5. Wear steel toe footwear or steel toe caps to prevent a foot injury from
falling objects.
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid
personal injury or damage to tool.
1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol or medications.
2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the
moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.
3. Use heavy-duty work gloves when handling the cable.
4. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance
enables better control in unexpected situations.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING! DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product (gained from
repeated use) replace strict adherence to the tool safety rules. If you use
this tool unsafely or incorrectly, you can suffer serious personal injury.
1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific
function. Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended
purpose.
2. Do not use the tool if any parts are damage broken or misplaced.
Repair or replace the parts.
3. Do not exceed the maximum capacity of the hoist. Overloading can
cause damage to the tool, failure of the tool, personal injury or death.
a. A shifting or swinging load can cause a dynamic shock and
overload the hoist.
4. Attach the hoist to a mounting beam that hold the weight of the hoist
and its maximum load (see specifications).
5. All users must understand the operation of all controls and learn how
to stop the hoist quickly in case of emergency.
6. Do not use inappropriate attachments to extend the length of the
cable.

7. Do not replace the cable with a cable of lesser strength.
8. Never lift people or animals with the hoist.
9. Do not hoist loads over people. Make sure the operator and all other
personnel are clear of the load.
10. Use a spotter to assist you in assuring that it is safe to operate the hoist.
11. Never operate the hoist if the cable shows any signs of weakening, is
knotted or kinked.
12. Observe the cable spooling onto the drum. The cable may pileup at one
end of the drum. To correct uneven stacking, spool out that section of
cable and move it to the other end of the drum and continue hoisting.
Uneven spooling causing cable pileup can interfere with the tie rods
causing damage to the hoist.
13. Never connect the hook back to the cable. This causes cable damage.
Always use a sling or chain of suitable strength.
14. All moving parts should always be kept well lubricated. Before operation,
check that the various parts have no damage and the idle motion is in
good condition.
15. Use only attachments and/or adapters supplied by the manufacturer.
16. Maintain the tool in good condition. Keep it clean for the best and safest
performance.
17. Before lowering load, ensure that there are no obstructions underneath
and that all people are standing clear. Stay out of the direct line that the
cable is pulling. If it slips or breaks, it will “whiplash” along this line.
18. Make sure there is enough clearance around the tool and the load for
movement.
19. Do not place your hands between the moving components.
20. Do not hold the cable while using the hoist, as your hand may become
caught.
21. Only use with accessories rated to handle the forces exerted by this tool
during operation. Other accessories not designed for the forces
generated may break and forcefully launch pieces.
22. Check to ensure that all applicable bolts and nuts are firmly tightened.
23. Do not leave a suspended load unattended unless specific precautions
have been instituted and are in place.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING! Do not touch or handle a live tool with any part of your body that
is wet or damp. Wet skin reduces resistance to electrical current, increasing
the danger of a serious or fatal shock.
WARNING! To reduce risk of electric shock, be certain that the plug is
connected to a properly grounded receptacle.
1. Disconnect the tool from the power supply before making any
adjustments, changing accessories, cleaning, servicing or when storing.
Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool
accidentally.
2. Protect yourself against electric shocks when working on electrical
equipment. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces. There is an
increased chance of electrical shock if your body is grounded.
3. Do not expose the tool to rain, snow, frost or any other damp or wet
conditions. Water entering a tool will increase the risk of electric
shock.
4. Do not disconnect the power cord in place of using the power switch.
This will prevent an accidental start-up when the power cord is
plugged into the power supply.
a. In the event of a power failure, turn off the machine as soon as
the power is interrupted. The possibility of accidental injury could
occur if the power returns and the unit is not switched off.
5. Do not alter any parts of the tool or accessories. All parts and
accessories are designed with built-in safety features that may be
compromised if altered.
6. Make certain the power source conforms to requirements of your
equipment (see Specifications).
7. When wiring an electrically driven tool, follow all electrical and safety
codes, as well as the most recent Canadian Electrical Code (CE) and
Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).
8. This tool is only for use on 120 V (single phase) and is equipped with a
three-prong grounded power supply cord and plug. Check with a
qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is
properly grounded. If the tool should electronically malfunction or
break down, grounding provides a low resistance path to carry
electricity away from the user.

a. Never remove the grounding prong or modify the plug in any way,
as this will render the tool unsafe.
b. Do not use any adapter plugs.
WARNING! All wiring should be performed by a qualified electrician.
POWER CORD
1. Insert the power cord plug directly to the power supply whenever
possible. Use extension cords or surge protectors only when the tool's
power cord cannot reach a power supply from the work area.
2. Do not operate this tool if the power cord is frayed, damaged or poorly
spliced, as an electric shock may occur, resulting in personal injury or
property damage.
a. Inspect the tool's power cord for cracks, fraying or other faults in
the insulation or plug before each use.
b. Discontinue use if a power cord feels more than comfortably
warm while operating the tool.
3. Keep all connections dry and off the ground to reduce the risk of
electric shock. Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
4. Prevent damage to the power cord by observing the following:
a. Do not pull on the cord to disconnect the plug from an outlet.
b. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
c. Place the electrical cord in a position that prevents it from coming
into contact with the hoist and getting caught by the workpiece.
5. Do not allow people, mobile equipment or vehicles to pass over
unprotected power cords.
a. Position power cords away from traffic areas.
b. Place cords in reinforced conduits or place planks on either side of
the power cord to create a protective trench.
6. Do not wrap the cord around the tool, as sharp edges may cut insulation
or cause cracks if wound too tight. Gently coil cord and either hang on a
hook or fasten with a device to keep cord together during storage.
UNPACKING
WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the
missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction
and personal injury.

Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage.
Make sure that all items in the contents are included.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION
Letter references in parenthesis (A) refer to the included Identification Key.
Attach the hoist to a beam capable of sustaining the hoist’s weight and the
maximum load capacity.
Attach your hoist to an overhead beam using the included brackets (A).
1. Place both brackets over the beam.
2. Place the hoist against the beam so the bracket bolt holes align with
the hoist’s bolt hole. Adjust the brackets if necessary.
3. Screw a two bolts through each bracket and into the hoist body.
4. Reposition the hoist to its final location, then tighten the bolts.
OPERATION
WARNING! The hoist is only for lifting and lowering a load vertically. Do not
use for horizontal pulling. This may cause equipment failure and can result
in serious injury to yourself or a bystander.
NOTICE! The hoist motor does not include an overload cut out mechanism. If
you are unable to lift a load, do not continue to operate the power switch.
This can result in damage to the motor.

BEFORE EACH USE
1. Check all hoist functions without a load to ensure there are no obvious
problems.
2. Push the stop bracket (C) upward while the cable is being drawn into
the hoist without a load. It should stop.
a. Note how long the delay is between pushing the stop bracket and
the cable stopping. Keep this delay in mind when using the hoist
to avoid accidents.
3. Press and hold the rocker switch (H) to raise the hook (D). Confirm that
the hoist stops spooling the wire rope when the disc contacts the stop
bracket.
4. Attach a heavy load and retest to check proper load control and brake
operation.
a. The braking system must automatically stop and hold up to the
rated load if the operating controls are released and in the event
of complete power failure.
b. Braking systems must limit the speed of load during lowering,
with or without power, to prevent uncontrolled or rapid lowering.
WARNING! Do not use the hoist if the load travels more than a few inches
after the button is released. You or a bystander may be injured if the load
cannot be controlled. Have a qualified technician examine the braking
system.
USING THE HOIST
1. Familiarize yourself with all operating controls of the hoist and with
the operations to be performed.
2. Do not operate the hoist unless the wire rope is seated properly on the
drum, pulleys or sprockets.
3. To operate the power switch, take the control handle (H) in your hand.
Press the upper part of the rocker switch to reel in the cable. Press the
lower part of the rocker cable to reel out the cable.
4. The cable spool will not turn freely. To pull out or wind up the cable,
you must operate the up/down control switch.
5. To pull out the cable, grasp the lift hook, and pull it away from the
hoist while pressing the lower part of the power switch. Always leave
at least three turns of cable on the spool to prevent pulling the cable
out of the hoist.

6. Insert the lift hook (D) into the hook opening (B) and attach the pulley
hook (I) to use the double line option to lift greater weight (see
Specifications.
7. Attach the cable firmly to the load using the lift hook or pulley lift
hook. Never wrap the cable around the object and hook onto the cable
itself. This can cause damage to the object being pulled, and kink or
fray the cable.
8. Properly seat the sling or other device in the base of the hook. Do not
allow the hook hitch or point to support any part of the load.
9. Before moving the load, make sure wire rope is not kinked or twisted
or that multiple part wire ropes are not twisted around each other.
10. Make sure the load in centered below the hoist before lifting.
11. Stand clear, and when it is safe to do so, use the power switch on the
control handle to retract the cable and hoist the load.
12. Do not use the stop bracket (C) as a normal means of stopping the
hoist. This is an emergency device.
13. Position the disc (D) above head level for storage when the hoist is not
in use.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier
to control and will have fewer problems.
2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or
worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
3. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
4. Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.
5. Inspect the hook for wear, distortion or damage. Make sure the latch
properly engages.
6. Replace any wire rope with broken strands or a protruding internal core.
7. Keep the tool clean, dry and free from oil/grease at all times.
8. Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates. These carry important
information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for
replacements.
WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An
improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.

LUBRICATION
Inspect and lubricate the tool when required. Only use light oil to lubricate
the tool. Other lubricants may not be suitable and could damage the tool or
cause a malfunction during use.
DISPOSAL
Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.
Contact your local municipality for a list of disposal facilities or by-laws for
electronic devices, batteries, oil or other toxic liquids.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not function
properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualified technician
service the tool.

INTRODUCTION
Le palan à câble électrique 880/1 769 lb convient à des tâches de levage de
moyenne envergure dans le garage ou l’atelier. La commande est munie d’un
interrupteur basculant vers le haut/bas simple. La butée coupera
automatiquement l’alimentation au palan pour prévenir une collision avec la
pièce à travailler lors du levage.

4. Assurez-vous que le support auquel le palan est retenu retiendra le
poids que vous appliquez au palan.
5. Tous les utilisateurs doivent comprendre le fonctionnement de toutes
les commandes et savoir comment arrêter le palan rapidement en cas
d'urgence.
6. N'utilisez pas d'accessoires inappropriés pour augmenter la longueur
du câble.
7. Ne remplacez pas le câble par un autre de résistance moindre.
8. Ne soulevez jamais des personnes ou des animaux avec le palan.
9. Ne soulevez pas des charges au-dessus des personnes. Assurez-vous que
l’utilisateur et tout autre personnel sont éloignés de la charge.
10. Faites appel à un éclaireur pour vous assurer qu'il est sécuritaire
d'utiliser le palan.
11. Ne mettez jamais en marche le palan si le câble semble abîmé, noué ou
tordu.
12. Observez le bobinage du câble sur le tambour. Le câble peut s’empiler à
une extrémité du tambour. Pour corriger un empilage inégal, déroulez
cette partie du câble, déplacez-la à l'autre extrémité du tambour et
continuez à lever. Un débobinage non uniforme qui provoque un
empilage du câble peut nuire aux biellettes de direction du palan et
endommager ce dernier.
13. Ne replacez jamais le crochet sur le câble. Cela a pour effet
d'endommager les câbles. Utilisez toujours une élingue ou une chaîne
de la résistance prescrite.
14. Assurez-vous que toutes les pièces mobiles sont toujours bien
lubrifiées. Avant l'utilisation, vérifiez si les différentes pièces ne
présentent aucun dommage et si le moteur tourne correctement au
ralenti.
15. Utilisez uniquement les accessoires et les adaptateurs fournis par le
fabricant.
16. Maintenez l’outil en bon état. Gardez-le propre pour obtenir les
meilleurs résultats et la meilleure sécurité.
17. Avant d'abaisser la charge, assurez-vous qu'aucune obstruction ne se
trouve en dessous et que tous les gens se trouvent à l'écart. Tenez-vous

18. Assurez-vous qu'il existe un jeu suffisant autour du cric et de la charge
afin de permettre le mouvement.
19. Ne placez pas vos mains entre les composants mobiles.
20. Ne retenez pas le câble lorsque vous utilisez le palan, puisque votre
main pourrait demeurer prise.
21. N'utilisez que des accessoires certifiés pour supporter les forces
exercées par cet outil durant son fonctionnement. D'autres accessoires
non conçus pour résister aux forces produites risquent de se briser et
de voler en éclats avec force.
22. Vérifiez que tous les boulons et les écrous applicables soient serrés
fermement.
23. Ne laissez pas une charge suspendue sans surveillance sauf si des
précautions particulières ont été établies et mises en place.
SÉCURITÉ EN ÉLECTRICITÉ
AVERTISSEMENT ! Ne touchez et ne manipulez pas un outil sous tension avec
une partie du corps qui est mouillée ou humide. La peau humide réduit la
résistance au courant électrique, augmentant ainsi le risque de choc grave
ou mortel.
AVERTISSEMENT ! Pour réduire les risques de choc électrique, assurez-vous
que la fiche est branché dans une prise de courant correctement mise à la
masse.
1. Débranchez l’outil de la source d’alimentation avant d’effectuer des
réglages quelconques, de changer des accessoires, de nettoyer l’outil, de
l’entretenir ou de le ranger. De telles mesures de sécurité préventives
réduisent le risque d’une mise en marche imprévue de l’outil.
2. Protégez-vous contre les chocs électriques lorsque vous travaillez en
présence d'équipement électrique. Évitez le contact entre votre corps
et les surfaces reliées à la terre. Il y a un risque plus élevé de choc
électrique si votre corps est mis à la terre.
3. N'exposez pas l’outil à la pluie, à la neige, au gel ou à d'autres
conditions humides ou mouillées. Si l'eau pénètre à l'intérieur d'un

4. Ne débranchez pas le cordon d’alimentation au lieu d’utiliser

a. Advenant une panne de courant, fermez l'appareil dès que le
courant est interrompu. Il pourrait y avoir un risque de blessure
accidentelle advenant le retour du courant alors qu'on n'a pas
fermé l'appareil.
5. Ne modifiez aucune partie de l'outil ou des accessoires. Toutes les
pièces et tous les accessoires sont conçus avec des dispositifs de
sécurité intégrés qui seront compromis s'ils sont modifiés.
6. Assurez-vous que la source d'énergie est conforme aux exigences de
votre équipement (consulter les spécifications).
7. Au moment de câbler un outil électrique, respectez tous les codes en
matière d'électricité et de sécurité, ainsi que les versions les plus
récentes du Code canadien de l'électricité (CE) et du code du Centre
canadien d'hygiène et de sécurité au travail (CCHST).

CORDON D'ALIMENTATION
1. Autant que possible, insérez la fiche du cordon d'alimentation
directement dans la source d'énergie. N'utilisez des rallonges ou des
limiteurs de surtension que lorsque le cordon d'alimentation de l'outil
est trop court pour atteindre la source d'énergie depuis l'aire de travail.

2. N'utilisez pas cet outil si le cordon d'alimentation est effilé,
endommagé ou mal épissé, car un choc électrique peut se produire, ce
qui pourrait causer des blessures ou des dommages matériel.
a. Avant chaque utilisation, inspectez le cordon d'alimentation de
l'outil; vérifiez qu'il n'est ni fissuré, ni effiloché et que l'isolant et la
fiche ne sont pas endommagés.
b. Arrêtez d'utiliser l'outil si le cordon d'alimentation est trop chaud
au toucher.
3. Pour réduire le risque de choc électrique, assurez-vous que toutes les
connexions sont sèches et qu’elles ne présentent aucun contact avec le
sol. Ne touchez pas la fiche avec les mains mouillées.
4. Pour éviter tout dommage au cordon d'alimentation, observez les
précautions suivantes :
a. Ne tirez jamais sur le cordon d'alimentation pour déconnecter la
fiche de la prise.
b. Tenez le cordon à l'écart de la chaleur, de l'huile, des rebords
coupants ou des pièces mobiles.
. Disposez le cordon électrique de façon à ce qu’il ne touche pas le
palan et qu’il ne risque pas de se prendre dans la pièce à travailler.
5. Veillez à ce que personne, ni aucun matériel mobile ni des véhicules
n'écrasent les cordons d'alimentation non protégés.
a. Disposez les cordons d'alimentation loin des zones de passage.
b. Placez les cordons d'alimentation à l'intérieur de conduits
renforcés ou placez des planches de chaque côté du cordon
d'alimentation pour créer un couloir protecteur.
6. N'enroulez pas le cordon autour de l'outil car les bords tranchants
risquent d'entailler l'isolant ou des fissures peuvent se former sur le
cordon s'il est enroulé trop serré. Enroulez délicatement le cordon et
suspendez-le à un crochet ou attachez-le sur un support pour qu'il
reste enroulé pendant son rangement.
DÉBALLAGE
AVERTISSEMENT ! Ne faites pas fonctionner l'outil si des pièces sont
manquantes. Remplacez les pièces manquantes avant l'utilisation. Le
non-respect de cet avertissement peut entraîner une défectuosité et des
blessures graves.

ASSEMBLAGE ET INSTALLATION
Les lettres de référence entre parenthèses (A) se rapportent à la clé
d'identification comprise.
Attachez le palan à une poutre en mesure de soutenir le poids du palan et la
capacité de charge maximale.
Attachez votre palan à une poutre suspendue au moyen des supports (A)
compris
1. Placez les deux supports sur la poutre.
2. Placez le palan contre la poutre de manière à ce que les orifices des
boulons du support soient alignés avec les trous de boulon du palan.
Repositionnez les supports au besoin.
3. Vissez deux boulons dans chaque support et dans le corps du palan.
4. Repositionnez le palan à son emplacement final, puis serrez les
boulons.
UTILISATION
AVERTISSEMENT! Le palan n’est conçu que pour soulever et abaisser une
charge verticalement. Ne l’utilisez pas pour le tirage horizontal. Cela
pourrait causer une défaillance de l’équipement, ce qui pourrait vous causer
des blessures graves ou causer des blessures graves aux gens à proximité.
