location and the function of the controls. To help prevent an
accident, follow the operating instructions and the safety rules.
Keep this manual for future reference.
IMPORTANT: Many units are not assembled and are sold in
cartons. It is the responsibility of the operator to make sure the
assembly instructions in this manual are exactly followed. On
assembled units, it is the operators responsibility to make sure
the unit is correctly assembled. The operator must carefully
check the unit according to the instructions in this manual before
it is first used.

When using electric gardening appliances,
basic safety precautions should always be
followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric
shock and personal injury.
Careless or improper use may cause
serious or even fatal injury.
READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL
INSTRUCTIONS.
This is a double-insulated appliance. When
servicing use only identical replacement
parts.
This appliance has a polarized plug (one
blade is wider than the other) and will
require the use of a polarized extension
cord. The appliance plug will fit into a
polarized extension cord only one way. If the
plug does not fit fully into the extension cord,
reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit,
obtain a correct polarized extension cord. A
polarized extension cord will require the use
of a polarized wall outlet.

extension cord, be sure to use one heavy
enough to carry the current your product will
draw. An undersized extension cord will
cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss
of power and overheating.
See the following Table for the correct size
to use depending on cord length and
nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use
the next heavier gage. The smaller the gage
number, the heavier the cord.

OPERATING
Tips For Best Trimming Results
1. The very tip of the trimming line is the most
powerful in cutting, so allow the line tip to do
the cutting job.
2. Trim only when grass and weeds are dry.
3. The correct angle for the cutting attachment
is parallel to the ground.
4. Grass over 8 inch should be cut by working
from top to the bottom in small increments to
avoid premature line wear or motor drag.
(Fig. XIII)
5. Whenever possible, cut right to left. When
cutting to the left, the units cutting efficiency
is improved slightly. Also, the clippings are
thrown away from the operator.
6. Slowly move the trimmer into and out of the
area being cut, maintaining the trimmer at
the desired cutting height. This can be either
a side-to-side or forward-backward motion.
Cutting shorter lengths produces best
results.

MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE
WARNING: Always stop and
unplug the unit before performing ANY
maintenance.
WARNING: Always use genuine
factory replacement parts.
Before Each Use Check For Damaged/Worn
Parts
Cutting Head  Replace Cutting Head parts
that are bent, warped, cracked, or damaged
in any way.
Extension Cord  Look closely for
deterioration, cuts or cracks in the

Service Of Double Insulated Units
This unit is double-insulated. In a double-
insulated unit, two systems of insulation are
provided instead of grounding. No means of
grounding are provided on a double-insulated
unit, nor should a means for grounding be
added to this unit.
Servicing a double-insulated unit requires
extreme care and knowledge of the system, and
should be done only by qualified service
personnel. Replacement parts for a double-
insulated unit must be identical to the parts they
replace. A double-insulated unit is marked with
the words DOUBLE INSULATION or DOUBLE
INSULATED or symbol .

5. Insert one end of the line into one hole on the
inner spool from inside to outside, then into the
other hole from outside to inside. (Figure 11)
Figure 11
6. Wind the line, in even and tight layers, in the
direction indicated on the inner spool.
(Figure 11)
7. Insert the end of the line into one hole on the
semi–transparent plastic line cover.
8. Replace the line cover. So the inner spool
assembly is set.
9. Re–assemble the inner spool assembly onto the
trimmer. (See Step 4–6 in “Replacing An Inner
Spool Assembly”)
CLEANING AND STORAGE
