INSTALLINGYOURVEHICLEMOUNTINGHARNESS
Overview:
Snowbear®snowplowmountsareuniquebecausetheyuseexistingholesandattachmentpointsonyourvehiclesframe.Useonly
Snowbear®CertifiedmountswithyourSnowbear®personalsnowplow.
Allofthemountkitshavebeendesignedusingmanufacturer’sframespecificationsaswellasactualframemeasurements.However
basedonourexperience,weknowthatthesemeasurementsarenotalwaysthesameandcaneasilyvaryby¼”ormore.
Wehaveattemptedtocompensateforsomeoftheseinconsistenciesbyprovidingslotsinoursupportbracketswhereverpossible.You
mayhoweverstillneedtoadjusttheholesinyourmountingbrackets,orvehicleframe.Thiscanbeeasilydonebyusingafile,asmall
grinder,ordrill.
Beforebeginningyourinstallationchecktheassemblydrawinginsideoftheboxtoconfirmthatyouhavethepropermountforyour
vehicle.Theaccessorypackageofyourvehicle(e.g.XLT,Custom,Sport,ExtendedCab,SLT,etc.)doesnotaffecttheframespecifications.
Manufacturerstendtohavemanymodels,butfewplatforms.Ourmountsaredesignedaroundtheseframesandplatforms.
Installation:
Manycustomersfindthatthemountinstallationisintimidatingbecausetheyarenotfamiliarwiththeundersideoftheirvehicles.In
general,amountingharnessconsistsofacrossmember(shippedwithyourplowhardware)andasetofcustombracketstoattachthe
crossmembertothevehicle.
Beginbylooselyattachingthebracketstotheframeofthevehicle,thenlooselyattachthecrossͲmembertothetwobrackets.
Becarefulnottopinchanywiresorhosesbetweentheplowmountandyourvehicleframe.
Whenthepartsareallinplace,pushtheassemblybackasfaraspossible(asthoughyouweretheplow)andbegintotightenthe
hardware.
NOTE:Wesupplystandardgrade5boltsandlocknutswhichwillappeartightasyouthreadthemontothe
bolts,THISISNORMAL.
Operation:
Afterplowingforthefirsttime,werecommendthatyoureͲtightentheboltsonthemountingharness.Onmostvehiclesthe
componentswill“seat”intoeachotherafterthefirstuse.
2WDvehiclesandvehiclesequippedwithSportpackagewillnormallyhavealowergroundclearanceduetothetiresizeaswellasthe
suspensionpackage.Youshouldexpectareductioningroundclearanceatthefrontofyourvehicle,becausethemountingtubesmust
beexposedbelowthelowestpartofyourvehiclesbody.Addinganextrahelperspring,orincreasingthetiresizewillgiveyoutheextra
clearanceyoumayneed.Minimalgroundclearancedoesnotaffectyourabilitytoplow,butitdoesmeanyoumustuseextracaution
whenplowing.Avoidinganyraisedorunevenareasthatyourplowhardwaremaygetcaughtuponwillensuretroublefreeuse.
WithsomeapplicationsthemountingforksonthecrossͲmemberwillpointslightlydownwardafteruse,thisisanormalpartofthe
“SEATING”processandwillnotaffecttheoperationoftheplow.(Inmostcasessteelshimscanbeusedtobringtheforksbackup,but
youshouldbecarefulnottomakethempointupwardsoritwillbedifficulttoinstallyourplow.
Yourplowisdesignedtomovefreshlyfallensnow.Itisnotsuitableforsmashingthroughpilesofice,orgradingsandandgravel.
WARNING:
Ifyouoverloadthemountingharnessitisdesignedtoyieldorbreakbeforeyourploworvehicle’sframeisseverelydamaged.Itis
especiallyimportanttoexercisecautionwithheavierfullsizedtruckstoensurethatyouwillreceiveyearsoftroublefreeservicefrom
yourpersonalsnowplow.
SnowBear®mountsareanessentialpartoftheSnowBear®plowandaredesignedandmanufacturedtospecificallyfitSnowBear®

PLOWINGINSTRUCTIONS
TheSnowplowisintendedforlightduty,personaluseonly.Itcanbeusedtoeffectivelyclearsnowfromparkinglots,lane
waysanddrivewaysquicklyandwithminimaleffort.
ToobtainmanyyearsoftroublefreeservicefromyourSnowplow,besuretoobservethesebasicplowinginstructions.
1. Beforebeginningtoplowcheckthatthehitchpinsareproperlyinstalledthroughtheholesonthemounting
forksunderthevehicle.Tocheckthispullforwardontheplow.Iftheplowmovesfromthevehiclewhenpulled
thehitchpinsarenotcorrectlyinstalled.
2. Plowpromptlyafterevery3Ͳ6inchesofaccumulationduringheavysnowfalls.
3. Plowimmediatelyaftereachsnowfall.Theplowcannotbeusedtobreakthroughice.
4. Exercisecautionandbefamiliarwiththeareathatyouareplowing.Hiddenobstaclescandamageboththeplow
andyourvehicle.
5. Stayclearofallobstaclesbyatleast3feet(walls,telephonepoles,gate,etc.)asyourvehiclemayslipsidewayson
icecausingtheplowtostriketheobstacle.
6. Neverramapileofsnow.Yourunitisnotdesignedtomoveblocksoficeandattemptingtodosowillvoidyour
warrantyandmaycausedamagetoyourvehicle.
7. Donotexceed10mph(16km/hr).Excessivespeedscanoverloadtheploworcauseyoutolosecontrolofyour
vehicle.
8. Whenyouencounterdriftsofsnow,proceedbyraisingtheplowtoremovethetoplayerofsnow,thenremove
thebaseonsuccessivepasses.
9. Ifyourplowhopswhenplowingreduceyourspeed.
10. Yourplowisdesignedtotripforwardifitisoverloadedorifitencountersasmallobstacleburiedinthesnow.The
plowwillautomaticallyresetitself.Ifyouareunsureastowhyittripped,examinethesnowpileforahidden
obstaclebeforeproceedingwithcaution.
11. Alwayslifttheplowbeforebackingup.
12. Alwayslowertheplowwhenparked.
13. Removetheplowfromyourvehicleaftereachuseanddonotallowiceorsnowtoaccumulateonthe
winch/actuator.
14. THESNOWPLOWISNOTINTENDEDFORTRANSPORTATIONONPUBLICROADS.Todriveonthehighwaywitha
plowattachedmoststatesandprovincesrequiretheinstallationofalightingkitcompletewithturnsignals.A
safetychainisalsorequired,whichwouldnotallowtheplowtofalloffthefrontofthevehicle.Alwaysconsult
yourlocalregulatoryagencyfortheirparticularrequirements.

PLOWINGLANEWAYS
Note:Toensureeasymaintenanceoflanewaysthroughoutthewinterseason,plowyourlanewaysas
widelyaspossibleduringthefirstsnowfalls.
Technique:
Settheplowonanangleandproceeddownthelaneclosetotheedgewherethesnowwillbepiled.Becareful
tostayclearofditches,trees,buildingsandanyotherobstaclesthatmayrunparallelwiththelaneway.
Attheendofthelaneway,turnthevehiclearoundandwithoutchangingtheangleoftheplow,returnonthe
othersideofthelanewaytoaccumulateasecondpileofsnow.Repeatthisactiontopushthesnowpileback
further.
PLOWINGPARKINGAREAS
Hint:Alwaysplowparkingareasaswidelyandasdeeplyaspossibleduringthefirstsnowfalls.
Technique:
Generally,workfromthecentertoonesideandthenfromthecenteragaintotheotherside.
Dothisbysettingtheplowonanangleandproceeddownthecenteroftheparkinglotuntilyoureachthefar
edge.
Lifttheplowandbackuptothepositionthatyoustartedfrom.
Now,plowaparallelandslightlyoverlappingpath.
Afteryouhaveplowedhalftheparkinglot,exitthevehicle,adjusttheplowtotheoppositeangleandstarting
fromthecenteragain,workprogressivelyinalateraldirection,towardstheouteredgeoftheparkinglot.
Note:Whenapproachingtheendofthelot,reduceyourspeedandstopbeforethebladeslamsthe
snowpile.Yourplowshouldnotbeusedtostackthesnow.

guide,toassistyouinresolvingcommontechnicalissuesandperformingsimpleadjustments.Ifyourequirefurther

1. Plowrocksortipsfromsidetoside.
a. Yourplowisintendedtorockfromsidetosideby8to10inches.Thiswillhelptocompensatefor
differencesintheterrainthatyouareplowing,andshouldnotbereducedbyaddingshimsorwashers.
b. Iftheplowisrockingexcessively,checkthe5/8”pivotbolt(#6)toensurethatthereisnomorethan¼”
offreeplay.The5/8”locknutcanbetightened,ifrequired.
c. Checkthespringsandeyeboltstoensurethatthereisadequatetension.Ifthespringsappearloose,
tightenthelocknutsontheeyeboltsto¼”pastthepointoftension.
2. Winchstrapisbreaking.
a. ThesinglemostcommoncauseofabrokenstrapislackoffreemovementintheUBolt,wherethe
strapattachestotheAFrame.EnsurethatthelocknutsontheUBoltaresufficientlyloose,andthereis
plentyofplayintheUBolt.
3. Winch/Actuatordoesnotengage,orwinchhesitates.
CAUTIONͲDisconnectpowerfromtheplow,priorto
workingonthewinch/actuatororwiring.
a. Ensurethatthebatterycableissecurelygroundedtothenegativeterminalonyourbattery.DONOT
GROUNDTOVEHICLEFRAME.
b. Ensurethattheswitchonthecontrolbox(underyourhood)isinthe“ON”position.Checkyour
contactsandconnectorstoensurethattheyaresecureandfreeofanydirtorcorrosion.Dielectric
greasecanbeusedtoprotectelectricalconnectionsagainstdirtandcorrosion.
4. Plowoperationisbackwards(i.e.bladeliftswhenitshouldlower)
a. Ensurethattheredwireonthe2’winchconnectorisconnectedtothepositive(top)terminalonthe
winch,andtheblackwireisconnectedtothenegative(bottom)terminal.
5. Wiring,controlswitchorcontrolboxaregettinghot.
a. Circuitbreakermustbeinstalledbetweentheredbatterycableandthepositiveterminalonyour
battery.Ensurethatthebreakerbracketisconnectedbetweenthebatteryandthebrassterminalon
thecircuitbreaker.
REMEMBER
ThisplowisintendedforpersonaluseONLY.Theplowisnotratedfor
commercialuse,anditisnotdesignedtobetransportedatspeedsgreaterthan10mph
(16km/hr).Commercialuseortravellingabovetherecommendedspeedswillvoid
yourwarrantyandcancauseseriousdamagetotheplow,yourvehicle,oryourperson.
