EN-1 Navigator Rechargeable Battery
INTRODUCTION
The rechargeable battery option is for use with the Ohaus Navigator Balances only. This accessory
has been tested and complies with the approvals listed in the Navigator Instruction Manual.

Note: Balances with a factory installed Rechargeable Battery will include a Battery Connector
that will be used if the balance is converted to use with dry cell batteries.
INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the existing Power Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery Cover and any existing dry cell batteries.
3. Remove the Battery Connector as shown below.
4. Install the Warning Label to inside of the Battery Cover as shown in the picture below.
5. Connect the red wire to the + terminal on the battery and the black wire to the - terminal on the
battery. Place the battery in the battery compartment.

6. Install the Recharge Circuit Board.
Align the 8-pin connector and the PCB edges as shown in the picture.
Press the circuit board down until the pins are fully engaged and the circuit board is sitting
on the mounting areas.
7. Position the battery and route the wires as shown in the picture above.
8. Re-install the battery compartment cover.
9. Connect the adapter to the Input Jack and to the proper AC supply.

OPERATION
The balance can be used on AC power immediately after the battery is installed. Allow the battery to
charge for 12 hours before using the balance on battery power.
While under rechargeable battery operation the Battery Icon will be lit. When the AC Adapter is
charging the battery icons will blink. Once the battery icon stops blinking the battery is fully charged.
When there is approximately 30 minutes of power remaining the battery icon will blink on/off every
0.5s. When the shutoff voltage is reached the display will alternately flash Batt and LowJ for 15
seconds then the balance will shut down. The balance will not power up if the shutdown level voltage
is detected.

Whenever possible use AC power as this will increase the life of the battery. Battery life is directly
related to the number of discharge cycles it experiences.
The number of hours that the balance can run on the battery depends on many factors. Backlight, IR
Sensors and Interface Options will reduce the hours before a recharge is needed. For optimum
battery life turn these features off. Under average conditions the battery should last around 100 hours
before needing a charge.
REMOVING THE RECHARGEABLE BATTERY OPTION
To convert the balance to operate on dry cell batteries follow these steps.
1. Disconnect the Power Adapter.
2. Disconnect and remove the battery.
3. Remove the Recharge Circuit board.
4. Install the Battery Connector. Refer to step 3 above where it was removed.
5. Install 4 C cell batteries or connect the Power Adapter.

Battery: Maintenance-free Sealed Lead-acid
DJWS-1.2 or Ohaus approved equivalent, 6 volt 1.2AH

Electronic Equipment (WEEE) this device may not be disposed of in domestic waste.
This also applies to countries outside the EU, per their specific requirements.
The Batteries Directive 2006/66/EC introduces new requirements from September
2008 on removability of batteries from waste equipment in EU Member States. To
comply with this Directive, this device has been designed for safe removal of the
batteries at end-of-life by a waste treatment facility.
Please dispose of this product in accordance with local regulations at the collecting point specified
for electrical and electronic equipment. If you have any questions, please contact the responsible
authority or the distributor from which you purchased this device.
Should this device be passed on to other parties (for private or professional use), the content of this
regulation must also be related.
