Congratulations!
By purchasing the SSZ 500 A1 smoothie maker you have opted for a quality product.
Before first using it, familiarise yourself with the way the smoothie maker works and read these operating
instructions through carefully. Be careful to follow the safety instructions and only use the smoothie maker
as described in the operating instructions and for the applications given.
Keep these operating instructions in a safe place. If you pass the smoothie maker on to someone else,
make sure to give them all the relevant documents with it.
1. Intended use
The SilverCrest SSZ 500 A1 Smoothie Maker, hereinafter referred to as the Smoothie Maker, can be used
for chopping, mixing and crushing food and ice cubes.
This smoothie maker is not intended for commercial use.
This smoothie maker is suitable exclusively for use indoors, in dry, enclosed spaces.
Always make sure the smoothie maker is on a stable surface.
The smoothie maker fulfils all relevant norms and standards associated with CE Conformity. Any
modifications to the appliance other than recommended changes by the manufacturer may result in these
standards no longer being met.
1.1 Predictable misuse
The smoothie maker may not be used for crushing or chopping
hot or boiling foods.
Ice or frozen food may only be crushed in the smoothie mixing
container (8) if liquid is added (making smoothies or similar). If
you wish to crush ice or frozen food on its own, please use the
multifunctional container (6).
Non-food substances should also not be processed.

These operating instructions have a fold-out cover. On the inside of the cover, the smoothie maker is
depicted with a numbered key. The meanings of the numbers are as follows:

appliances. Keep these operating instructions in a safe place for
future reference. If you sell the appliance or give it away, pass on
the operating instructions at the same time. It forms parts of the
product.

order to alert the user to potential risks.
WARNING!
This symbol denotes important information for the safe
operation of the product and user safety. It warns against
risks which could, if left unheeded, cause danger to life and
limb, injuries or material damage.
Risk of electric shock!
This symbol warns of risks which could, if left unheeded,
cause damage to life and limb through electric shock.
Risk of fire!
This symbol warns that fires could start if the warning is left
unheeded.
This symbol denotes further information on the topic.
This symbol designates products whose physical and
chemical composition has been tested and found to be non-
hazardous to health when used in contact with food in
accordance with the requirements of Ordinance EU
1935/2004.
Children and persons with disabilities
This appliance is not to be used by children. The appliance and its
power cable should be kept out of the reach of children. Appliances

may be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities and/or who have no experience in, or knowledge of,
using such appliances providing they are supervised or have been
instructed in how to use the appliance safely and have understood

Risk of suffocation!
Packaging material is not a toy. Do not allow children to
play with plastic bags. There is a risk of suffocation.
Risk of falling objects!
Make sure that children cannot pull the appliance from the
work surface by the power cable. There is a danger of
injury.
Keep the device out of the reach of children.
General safety instructions
Risk of electric shock!
If the power cable of this appliance is damaged, it must
be replaced by the manufacturer, its customer service or
a similarly qualified person, in order to avoid any
possible danger.
Never open the housing of the smoothie maker. This
does not contain any replaceable parts. Opening the
housing can expose you to the risk of electric shock.
If you notice any smoke, unusual noises or strange

smells, switch off the appliance immediately and remove
the mains plug from the mains socket. If this occurs, do
not continue to use the appliance and have it checked
out by an expert. Never inhale smoke from a possible
appliance fire. If you do inadvertently inhale smoke, seek
medical attention. Smoke inhalation can be damaging to
your health.
Make sure that the power cable cannot be damaged by
sharp edges or hot spots.
Make sure that the power cable cannot get crushed or
squashed.
The appliance must always be disconnected from the
mains when left unsupervised and before assembly,
disassembly or cleaning.
When disconnecting the mains plug from the mains
socket, always pull on the mains plug and never on the
power cable itself.
If you notice visible damage to the smoothie maker or the
power cable, switch off the appliance, remove the mains
plug from the mains socket, and contact customer service
(see "Warranty information" on page 21).
Only connect the smoothie maker to a properly installed,
easily accessible mains socket with the same mains
voltage as detailed on the name plate. After connecting
the appliance, the mains socket must still be easily

accessible so that you can remove the mains plug quickly
in the event of an emergency.
Never immerse the motor unit (2), the power cable or the
mains plug in water or other liquids. If liquid does
penetrate the motor unit (2), disconnect the mains plug
from the mains socket immediately and contact the
hotline (see "Warranty information" on page 21).
Never operate the smoothie maker with wet hands.
Warning about property damage
Do not leave the smoothie maker unattended while
running so you can react quickly in the case of hazards.
If the cutting blades (5) or (9) only turn slowly or not at
all, switch the smoothie maker off immediately,
disconnect the power cable from the mains socket and
check whether the cutting blades (5) or (9) are blocked
or the food is too tough. Also check that you have
assembled the smoothie maker correctly.
Please note the maximum fill level of 570 ml for the
smoothie mixing container (8) or 1200 ml for the
multifunctional container (6).
The smoothie maker has a non-slip ring (7). If necessary,
place something underneath the device, as work-surfaces
are sometimes treated with detergents which could attack
or even dissolve the non-slip ring (7).

Risk of overheating and fire
Only ever operate the Smoothie Maker with the
smoothie mixing container (8) or multifunctional
container (6) filled and never empty.
Note the short-time duty (KB time). See the technical
specifications on page 4.
Do not use the appliance in direct sunlight or near
heating appliances (heaters, stoves, ovens etc.).
Do not place hot or boiling foods in the smoothie mixing
container (8) or multifunctional container (6). Otherwise,
the motor unit (2) could overheat or the smoothie mixing
container (8) or the multifunctional container (6) could
shatter. Always leave hot or boiling foods to cool down
first before adding them to the smoothie mixing container
(8) or multifunctional container (6) and processing them
using the Smoothie Maker.
Risk of injury
Before changing accessories or fittings which move when
the unit is running, switch it off and disconnect it from the
mains power.
The cutting blades (5) and (9) are extremely sharp. Be
very careful when washing and handling the cutting
blades (5) and (9).
The cutting blades (5) or (9) continue to turn immediately
after being switched off. Wait for the cutting blades (5)

or (9) to come to a complete standstill before removing
the motor unit (2), opening the lid (3) or taking other
steps.
6. Before you start
Unpack the appliance. First check whether all the parts are complete and undamaged. If any items are
missing or damaged, please phone our hotline (see "Warranty information" on page 21). Keep the
packaging material away from children and dispose of appropriately.
7. Getting started
Before using the product for the first time, clean the lid (3), the two cutting blades (5) and (9), the
multifunctional container (6) and the smoothie mixing container (8). For more on this, please refer to the
"Maintenance/cleaning" section on page 18.
8. Use
The product can be used for preparing smoothies and small quantities of yoghurt drinks and milkshakes
(up to 570 ml) which can then be taken out jogging, to the gym, etc. in the sealed smoothie mixing
container (8). The multifunctional container (6) can also be used to prepare larger quantities of these
drinks (up to 1200 ml) for parties and other occasions at home or even for chopping and mixing cheese,
vegetables, dried fruit, meat and other foods.
8.1 Using as a Smoothie Maker
Warning!
The cutting blades (9) are NOT suitable for crushing ice directly. If you wish to crush ice or
frozen food on its own, please use the multifunctional container (6). Because of the shape of
the blades, ice or frozen food may only be crushed in the smoothie mixing container (8) if at
least 100 ml of liquid is added (making smoothies or similar).
8.1.1 Setting up and filling the device
1. If the mains plug is connected to the mains socket, remove it from the mains socket.
2. Open the smoothie mixing container (8) and place it on a smooth, even surface with the opening
facing upwards. Also place the motor unit (2) with the drive mechanism facing upwards on a stable,
even surface. Do not connect the power cable plug to the mains socket yet!

3. Add the desired ingredients to the smoothie mixing container (8).
4. Screw the cutting blades for the smoothie mixing container (9)
firmly into the smoothie mixing container (8).
8.1.2 Operation
The Smoothie Maker can only be switched on once the smoothie mixing container (8) is
properly locked into position on the motor unit (2).
1. Connect the power cable plug to a live mains socket.
Warning!
Make sure the power cable is not in your working area. Otherwise, you could accidentally
pull on it and tip over the Smoothie Maker or cause the smoothie mixing container (8) to fall
off the motor unit (2).

2. Turn the smoothie mixing container (8) around and place it on
the motor unit (2). As you do so, note that the three transparent
lugs on the smoothie mixing container (8) fit into the relevant
gaps on the motor unit (2).
3. To switch on the Smoothie Maker, gently twist the smoothie
mixing container (8) clockwise.

4. To switch off the Smoothie Maker, gently twist the smoothie mixing container (8) anticlockwise.
Risk of injury
The cutting blades (9) continue to turn immediately after being switched off. Wait for the
cutting blades (9) to come to a complete standstill before removing the smoothie mixing
container (8), opening the smoothie mixing container (8) or taking other steps.
5. Once you have finished preparation, unplug the mains plug from the mains socket.
6. Remove the smoothie mixing container (8) from the motor unit (2).
7. Turn the smoothie mixing container (8) around so that the cutting blades (9) are at the top and
unscrew the cutting blades (9) from the smoothie mixing container (8) (twist them anticlockwise).
You can then either pour out the contents of the smoothie mixing container (8) or screw the lid (10) onto
the smoothie mixing container (8). The lid (10) converts the smoothie mixing container (8) into a handy
drinking bottle for out and about.
8. Clean the lid (10), cutting blades (9) and smoothie mixing container (8). For more on this, please
refer to the "Maintenance/cleaning" section on page 18.
8.1.3 Processing times
The processing times for preparing smoothies, yoghurt drinks and milkshakes depend on your personal
preferences and the nature of the ingredients. If you use, for example, lots of milk and not much fruit, it

takes just a few seconds to make a milkshake. For thicker yoghurt with coarse berries, it make take a little
longer and you may have to stop and start the device a few times.

8.1.4 Example smoothie recipes
This section contains some versatile recipes that can be altered to suit individual tastes by replacing certain
ingredients.

Kiwi and strawberry smoothie
1 banana
1 kiwi
6 strawberries
½ pot vanilla yoghurt
¾ cup pineapple or orange juice
Add the ingredients to the smoothie mixing
container (8) and blend to taste.
Mango and banana smoothie
1 banana
1 mango
1 pot vanilla yoghurt
1 cup milk
Add the ingredients to the smoothie mixing
container (8) and blend to taste.
Blueberry smoothie
1 banana
½ pot vanilla soya milk
1 pot low-fat vanilla yoghurt
1 ½ tsp linseed flour
1 ½ tsp honey
½ cup blueberries
Slice the banana and add to the smoothie mixing
container (8). Add the soya milk, yoghurt, linseed
flour and honey. Mix briefly (approx. 5 seconds).
Add the blueberries and mix again until you get
the consistency you want.
Green cabbage and spinach smoothie
50 – 100 g fresh leaf spinach
1 pot almond milk
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 green cabbage leaf
1 banana
Add all the ingredients apart from the banana to
the smoothie mixing container (8) and mix briefly.
Slice the banana and add to the mix as well,
blend to taste.

Avocado and cucumber smoothie
½ avocado
½ cucumber
¼ round lettuce
100 ml water
Wash and cut the lettuce, peel and chop the cucumber. Add the avocado flesh to the smoothie mixing
container (8), add the remaining ingredients and finally pour in the water. Blend to taste and add a little
salt if require.
8.2 Using as a mixer and chopper
8.2.1. Preparing the food
Wash the food.
For meat, remove tendons, bones and skin.
For herbs, remove the stalks.
Cut solid food (e.g. meat, fish, vegetables) into chunks of around 2 to 3 cm square.
Remove the outer shell of nuts.
8.2.2 Setting up and filling the device
1. If the mains plug is connected to the mains socket, remove it from the mains socket.
2. Fit the non-slip ring (7) and place the multifunctional container (6) on a stable, even surface. Insert
the cutting blades (5) into the multifunctional container (6).
3. Also place the motor unit (2) with the drive mechanism facing downwards on a stable, even surface.
Do not connect the power cable plug to the mains socket yet!
4. Prepare the food (see previous section).
5. Add the desired ingredients to the multifunctional container (6). Note the recommended information
(see section below) and never overfill the multifunctional container (6) beyond the maximum
1200 ml level - see scale.
The scale on the multifunctional container (6) only shows the fill volume correctly if the cutting
blades (5) are inserted.

6. Place the lid (3) with the sealing ring (4) fitted on the
multifunctional container (6). As you do so, make sure that the
spout with the flap is pointing towards the front of the
multifunctional container (6).
7. Place the motor unit (2) on to the lid (3). Hold the motor unit
(2) in one hand and the lid (3) in the other and twist them
gently against one another. The motor unit (2) should rest in
the two recesses in the lid (3) and it should no longer be
possible to twist it. It sinks down slightly to ensure this.

8.2.3 Operation
Warning!
Make sure the power cable is not in your working area. Otherwise, you could accidentally
pull on it and tip over the Smoothie Maker or cause the motor unit (2) to fall off the
multifunctional container (6).
The smoothie maker can only be switched on once the motor unit (2) is properly locked into
position on the lid (3).
Warning!
Hold the motor unit (2) in one hand and the multifunctional container (6) in the other when
you operate the unit.
1. Connect the power cable plug to a live mains socket.
2. Close the flap on the spout on the front of the lid (3).
3. Hold the motor unit (2) to keep it in place and press the on/off pushbutton (1).

4. Release the on/off pushbutton (1) to switch off the Smoothie Maker.
Risk of injury
The cutting blades (5) continue to turn immediately after being switched off. Wait for the
cutting blades (5) to come to a complete standstill before removing the motor unit (2), opening
the multifunctional container (6) or taking other steps.
5. Once you have finished preparation, unplug the mains plug from the mains socket.
6. Remove the motor unit (2) from the multifunctional container (6).
7. Remove the food. If you have prepared liquids (e.g. milkshakes), you can open the flap of the spout
on the multifunctional container (6) and pour out the contents. For firmer foods, remove the lid (3)
and empty the multifunctional container (6). You can use a scraper, for example.
Risk of injury
The cutting blades (5) are extremely sharp. Be very careful when handling the cutting blades
(5).
8. Clean the lid (3), cutting blades (5) and multifunctional container (6). For more on this, please refer
to the "Maintenance/cleaning" section on page 18.

The table below sets out the recommended quantities and processing times for various foods.
The quantities and times listed are guidelines to achieve the best possible results for the
relevant ingredients. The values can vary based on consistency.

The breaks set out in the list give the ingredients the chance to come back into contact with the
cutting blades (5). If the ingredients get stuck to the inside of the multifunctional container (6),
push them down with a scraper, for example, and continue chopping.
9. After use
After use clean the smoothie maker as described in the "Maintenance / cleaning" section below. Then
store the smoothie maker in a safe place away from dust.
