INTRODUCTION
The gas engine is suitable to power pressure washers, tillers,
water pumps, cultivators, log splitters, go karts, generators, forestry
equipment, plus lawn and garden equipment.
The engine has a cast iron cylinder sleeve to reduce wear and extend
the engine’s life. The overhead valve design improves fuel economy.
The engine has an electric key-ignition in addition to a recoil pull start.

WORK AREA
1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean,
well-lit and free of distractions. Place lights so you are not working
in a shadow.

3. Store unused tools properly in a dry, safe and secure location to
prevent rust, damage or misuse.

PERSONAL SAFETY
WARNING! Wear personal protective equipment approved
by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or American
National Standards Institute (ANSI).
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid
personal injury or damage to tool.
1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol or medications.
2. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and
balance enables better control in unexpected situations.
3. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with
the moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side
protection for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply
with CSA Z94.3-07 or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of
work performed.
2. Wear protective clothing and gloves designed for the work
environment, materials and tools.
a. Do not wear gloves when operating a tool that can snag the
material and pull the hand into the tool.
3. This tool can cause hearing damage. Wear hearing protection
gear with an appropriate Noise Reduction Rating to withstand the
decibel levels.
4. Wear steel toe footwear or steel toe caps to prevent a foot injury
from falling objects.
5. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and
balance in the work environment.

SPECIFIC SAFETY
WARNING! DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product
(gained from repeated use) replace strict adherence to the
tool safety rules. If you use this tool unsafely or incorrectly,
you can suffer serious personal injury.
1. Use the correct engine for the job. This engine was designed for a
specific function. Do not use it for an unintended purpose.
2. All users must understand the operation of all controls and learn
how to stop the engine quickly in case of emergency.
3. Do not tamper with governor spring, links or other engine parts to
increase speed or power.
4. The engine and exhaust become very hot during operation. Severe
thermal burns can occur on contact, especially with the muffler.
a. Keep the engine at least 3 feet (0.91 meter) away from
buildings and other equipment during operation.
b. Remove accumulated debris from the muffler and cylinder
area. Combustible debris, such as leaves, grass, brush, etc.
can catch fire if they come in contact with a hot engine.
c. Do not place anything on the engine while it is running.
d. Allow the muffler, engine cylinder and fins to cool before
touching.
5. The manufacturer of the equipment on which this engine is
installed specifies the top speed at which the engine will operate.
DO NOT exceed this speed.
6. Fuel the engine according to the instructions in the Engine
Maintenance section: How to Add Fuel.
CARBON MONOXIDE PRECAUTION
WARNING! Never operate a gas engine indoors or in a
confined space as the exhaust contains carbon monoxide
gas. Inhalation of carbon monoxide gas can lead to illness
or death. The area must be well ventilated. Opening
windows and doors is not enough to ventilate an area

Carbon monoxide is a colourless and odourless gas that is difficult to
detect. Carbon monoxide poisoning results from inhalation of the gas
and may be lethal if left untreated. Evacuate all people to an area
with clean air and seek immediate medical attention for any person
experiencing the following symptoms:
• Unconsciousness
• Headache
• Confusion
Shortness of breath
• Weakness
Chest Pain
• Dizziness
Blurred Vision
Nausea and
vomiting
• Unconsciousness
FUEL AND FUELING
Warning! Always shut the engine off and allow to cool
before fuelling. Never add fuel to a machine with a running
or hot engine. Move at least 10 ft. from the refuelling site
before starting the engine to avoid an explosion or fire.
1. Use only an approved fuel container.
2. Do not allow open flames, sparks or ignition sources near fuel.
3. Fuel cans may be under pressure due to temperature. Loosen fuel
caps slowly, allowing the pressure to equilibrate.
4. Do not fill fuel tanks indoor. Always fill fuel tanks outdoors over
bare ground.
5. Inspect for fuel leaks. Do not start until leakage is repaired.
BATTERY SAFETY
WARNING! Only charge a battery with a charger designed
for that purpose. Do not use modified chargers or a charger
that does not specify the voltage, amperage or recharge
rate. Improper charging can lead to battery rupturing.
WARNING! Do not charge a damaged or frozen battery.
Contact your local municipality for proper disposal
procedures.
Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for your battery before use or
maintenance.
1. Do not expose the battery to heat or throw it in a fire. The contents
are flammable and the battery may explode. Remove any source

of ignition such as an open flame or a tool like a heater from the
area.
2. Do not inhale smoke issuing from a burning battery, as it is toxic.
3. Do not disassemble or crush the battery as the contents are
corrosive and flammable. Exposure may cause an injury. There
is a risk of escaping hazardous vapors. These vapors can
irritate the respiratory track. Always ensure proper ventilation and
immediately consult a doctor, if you feel unwell.
4. Even a discharged battery may still carry a charge. To prevent
a shock, place battery terminal caps or covers over the terminal
to prevent accidental contact. Hold the battery by the bottom if
moving the battery to a different location.
5. Leaking battery fluid can cause irritation of the skin or burns. If
contact should occur, flush immediately with water. In case of
accidental contact with the eyes, seek medical aid.
6. Do not disconnect from the power source in place of using the
ON/OFF switch on the tool. This can lead to an accidental startup
when the tool is connected to the power supply.
UNPACKING
WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing.
Replace the missing part before operating. Failure to do so
could result in a malfunction and personal injury.
Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for
damage.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION
NOTICE! The engine is not shipped with oil. Before starting
the engine, add oil according to the instructions in this
manual. Starting the engine without oil will damage the
engine beyond repair.
The engine comes assembled.

1. Check that the filter is in place. See
Maintenance – Service the Air Filter
2. The throttle lever can adjust the motor
speed using a cable or as a manual lever.
The throttle’s nut must be tightened to
allow friction to hold the lever in place
when used as a manual lever.
CONNECT THE BATTERY
NOTICE! Do not reverse the polarity when connecting the
battery as as this will short circuit the battery charging
system or damage the equipment
The engine has an electric start option that requires a 12 volt battery
(sold-separately). Use a 12V DC battery with a rating of at least 18
ampere-hours with the engine.
Battery cables are not included unless listed in the Unpacking Contents
section.
The polarity of each battery cable is displayed on a rubber cover where
they connect on either side of the starter motor.
1. Remove the wing nuts from the battery’s positive (+) and negative
terminals (-).
2. Slide the positive battery cable lug onto the positive terminal. Coat
the cable end with grease and reattach the wing nut. Tighten hand-
tight.
3. Slide the negative battery cable lug onto the negative terminal.
Coat the cable end with grease and reattach the wing nut. Tighten
hand-tight.
4. Secure the battery so it won’t move while the engine is in use.
REMOTE CONTROL LINKAGE
Both the throttle and the choke levers have a hole to receive a cable
linkage for remote controls. A solid wire cable or a flexible wire cable
and a spring may be used to set up the remote controls.
Solid wire cables are appropriate when there are no sharp angles
between the control lever and the remote control. A gradual curve is
acceptable as long as it does not impair the movement.

Secure the flexible cable to the engine's plastic covers with cable
clamps. Make sure you only use short screws to attach the clamps
to parts of the casing that don't cover vulnerable components.
The components to set up a remote cable system are not included.
SOLID WIRE SET-UP
1. Slip the bent end of the solid wire
through the hole in the lever, so the
bend will catch the lever when it is
pulled.
2. Test the control linkage to make sure
the lever moves the correct distance.
Any changes to cable length should
be made to the other end.
FLEXIBLE WIRE SET-UP
A wire clamp is needed when using a flexible wire cable.
1. Insert the wire clamp through the lever's hole.
2. Insert a circlip over the protruding end.
3. Remove the screw from the wire
clamp and set aside.
4. Insert the flexible wire through the two
holes in the wire clamp's side. You
may need to rotate the wire clamp to
align the holes.
5. Insert the screw and tighten.
6. Test the control linkage to make sure
the lever moves the correct distance. Loosen the screw when
adjusting the wire tension and retighten.

THROTTLE SPRING ASSEMBLY
1. Loosen the friction nut enough to
allow the wire and spring to move the
lever.
2. Remove the butterfly nut and slip one
end of the spring onto the anchor bolt.
Reinstall the butterfly nut until hand
tight.
3. Insert the other end of the spring into
one of the holes in the rack. The
spring should be under slight tension
when at rest.
A solid hook may be required for the rack if the spring has two
end loops. Attach the spring loop to one end of the hook, then
slip the other end of the hook into a rack hole.
4. Pull the lever using the cable or by hand and release it to see if the
spring can pull it back to the resting position. If it does not:
a. Loosen the friction nut further and test again.
b. Move the spring to the next rack hole and test again.
c. Install a shorter spring or hook if the spring is attached to the
rack's last hole.
d. Once the lever returns. Tighten the friction nut again until the
lever doesn't fully return, then loosen slightly until the lever
does return.
ENGINE OPERATIONS
Check the engine’s condition before operating to maximize the user’s
safety and the service life of the engine. Ensure that the engine is
level and the switch is in the OFF position before beginning the pre-
operation checks.

BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE
WARNING! Do not start or run engine in an enclosed
area, even if the doors or windows are open. Engine
exhaust contains carbon monoxide (see Carbon Monoxide
Precautions).
1. Make sure spark plug, air cleaner, fuel cap and muffler are in place
and secured.
2. Ensure the spark plug lead is securely connected to the spark
plug, otherwise unintentional sparking can result, causing a fire or
electric shock.
3. Check the air filter. A dirty air filter will reduce engine performance.
4. Check that all protective covers and guards are in place.
5. Check that all nuts, bolts and screws are tight.
6. Check the fuel level.
7. Check the engine oil level. Running the engine without enough oil
can damage the engine.
8. Look around and underneath the engine for signs of oil or gasoline
leaks. Do not start the engine until any spilled fuel has evaporated.
9. Remove any excessive dirt or debris, especially around the muffler
and recoil starter.
10. Look for signs of damage.
11. Check the equipment powered by this engine.
12. Review the instructions provided with the equipment powered by
this engine for precautions and procedures that should be followed
before starting the engine.
STARTING THE ENGINE
WARNING! Direct-coupled equipment components such as,
but not limited to, blades, impellers, pulleys, sprockets, etc.,
must be securely attached before the engine is started to
avoid injury or damage.
1. Move the fuel valve to the ON position.
2. Move the choke lever to the CLOSED position if the engine is cold.
The choke is unnecessary when restarting a warm engine.

3. Move the throttle lever away from MIN. position, about 1/3 of way
toward the MAX. position.
4. Insert the engine switch key into the key hole.
5. Turn the key to start the engine.
a. If the engine fails to start within 5 seconds, wait at least 10
seconds before attempting to start the engine again.
b. Attempt to start the engine with the recoil option if unable to
start it with the ignition switch or start button.
6. Start the engine manually if the electric start does not work.
a. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position
b. Pull the starter handle lightly until you feel resistance, then
pull the starter handle briskly. The engine should turn over
and start running.
Do not allow the starter handle to snap back against the
engine. Instead, return the starter grip gently by hand.
7. If the engine floods, set the choke to the OPEN/RUN position,
place the throttle in FAST and attempt to start the engine again.
8. If the choke lever was moved to the CLOSED position to start
the engine, gradually move it to the OPEN position as the engine
warms up.
The engine may make a metallic rapping noise (spark knock, ping)
while running under a heavy load. This is normal. Replace the fuel with
premium quality gasoline if the metallic rapping noise continues under
normal load. Contact a qualified mechanic if the pinging continues as
this may indicate existing engine damage.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Do not choke carburetor to stop engine. In an emergency
turn the engine switch to the OFF position to stop the
engine.
Stop the engine by following this procedure:
1. Move the throttle lever to the MIN. position.
2. Turn the engine switch OFF by removing the engine switch key.
3. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position.
The battery is not fully charged out of the carton. Charge the battery
before first use.

1. Set the tool’s trigger switch to the OFF position before installing
or removing the battery. This will help prevent injuries due to
accidental starts.
2. Check the battery power level before each use.
ENGINE MAINTENANCE
The following section includes a maintenance schedule, routine
inspection procedures and simple maintenance procedures using basic
hand tools. Service tasks that are more difficult or require special tools
are best handled by a technician or other qualified mechanic.
1. Maintain the engine with care. A well-maintained engine is more
efficient and less likely to have problems.
2. Follow instructions for servicing.
3. Inspect the engine components periodically. Check fuel lines, tank,
cap and fittings frequently for cracks or leaks. Have damaged
or worn components repaired or replaced by an authorized
technician.
4. Replacement parts must match the original. Use manufacturer
recommended parts when possible.
5. Disconnect the negative battery lead, then the positive battery
lead.
6. Disconnect the spark plug lead and keep it away from the spark
plug during maintenance and repairs.
7. Maintain the engine’s label and name plate. These carry important
information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd.
for replacements.
WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair
the engine.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
This schedule applies to normal operating conditions. If you operate
your engine under severe conditions, such as sustained high-load or
high-temperature operation or use in unusually wet or dusty conditions,
consult a qualified technician for recommendations applicable to your
individual needs and use.

FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS
NOTICE! Do not use unapproved gasoline, such as E85.
Do not mix oil in gasoline or modify the engine to run on
alternate fuels. This can damage the engine components.
To protect the fuel system from gum formation, mix a fuel
stabilizer into the fuel.
This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline with a
minimum of 87 octane/87 AKI (91 RON). Use gasoline without ethanol
or similar alcohol based additives. Gasoline with up to 10% ethanol
(gasohol) or up to 15% MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) may be used
if required.

If the engine is routinely operated at altitudes over 5,000 ft (1,524
meters), it will be necessary to have a qualified technician modify the
engine for increased performance. Fuel should be a minimum of 85
octane/85 AKI (91 RON) to prevent decreased performance.
The emissions control system for this engine is EM (Engine
Modifications).
1. Use only an approved fuel container for refueling the engine.
2. Store fuel out of direct sunlight in a cool and dry location
3. Inspect container for fuel leaks. Replace any container that leaks.
4. You may occasionally hear a light spark knock or pinging (metallic
rapping noise) while the engine is operating under heavy loads.
This is no cause for concern. If spark knock or pinging occurs at
a steady engine speed under normal load, switch to a premium
gasoline or change brands of gasoline. If spark knock or pinging
persists, see an authorized repair centre.
5. Never use stale or contaminated gasoline or an oil/gasoline
mixture designed for two-stroke motors.
HOW TO ADD FUEL
DANGER! Fuel is very flammable. Use extreme care when
handling or storing fuel. An ignition source contacting the
fumes or fuel may result in a fire or explosion and cause
fatal or serious injuries to you or a bystander.
DANGER! Static electricity can ignite gas fumes. Touch a
grounded object to discharge the static electricity before
adding fuel to the engine.
1. Refuel outdoors or in a well-ventilated area and immediately wipe
up spills. Fuel can damage paint and plastic.
2. Stop the engine and position equipment on a level surface.
3. Let engine cool at least 2 minutes before removing the fuel cap.
4. Clean the fuel cap area of dirt and debris. Do not allow dirt or
water to enter the fuel tank.
5. Remove the fuel cap slowly to allow the pressure to equalize.
6. Check the fuel level.

7. Add fuel until it reaches the bottom of the metal collar supporting
the fuel strainer in the fuel tank. Take care to not overfill the tank.
It may be necessary to lower the fuel level depending on operating
conditions.
8. Reinsert the fuel tank cap and tighten.
9. Wipe up any spilled fuel before starting the engine or allow to
evaporate. Spilled fuel is both a fire hazard and an environmental
hazard. Dispose of the fuel soaked rags in a proper hazardous
waste container.
DRAINING FUEL
1. Switch the fuel valve to the OFF position.
2. Remove the protective shroud covering the sediment cup.
3. Remove the fuel sediment cup, screw and o-ring.
4. Place a funnel into a fuel container and position the funnel opening
under the carburetor. The container must be able to hold the
amount of fuel in the fuel tank and fuel lines.
5. Move the fuel valve to the ON position.
6. Wait for the fuel to fully drain into the container.
7. Switch the fuel valve to the OFF position.
8. Remove and clean the funnel. Cap the fuel container and store is a
dry, dark location.
9. Reassemble the sediment cup and o-ring.
Remember to check the o-ring seal when the engine is
refuelled. The ring may not be properly seated.
ENGINE OIL
NOTICE! Non-detergent and 2-stroke engine oils will damage
a 4-stroke engine and are not recommended.
1. Check the oil level before each use with a cool engine that is level.
2. Use 4-stroke motor oil that meets or exceeds the requirements for
the API (American Petroleum Institute) service classification (see
Specifications).
3. Do not use special additives.

4. SAE 10W-30 is recommended for
general, all-temperature use. Other
viscosities shown on the chart may be
used when the average temperature in
your area is within the indicated range.
5. Using 10W-30 oil when the temperature
is above 27°C (80°F) may increase oil
consumption . Check the oil level more
often.
6. Starting the engine will be more difficult when using SAE 30 oil
below 4°C (40°F).
HOW TO CHECK OIL
1. Level the engine or the equipment the engine is mounted on.
2. Clean the oil fill area of any dirt and debris to prevent
contamination that can damage the engine.
3. The engine has a dipstick that is either
part of the oil fill plug or a separate
component.
a. Remove the dipstick and wipe with a
clean cloth.
b. Reinsert the dipstick into the filler
neck until it rests on the opening’s
rim. Do not screw the oil fill plug back
into the opening.
c. Remove the dipstick and check that the oil is between the full
and fill marks. Add or drain oil based on the measurement
d. Reinsert the dipstick and either press firmly to hold in place or
screw the oil fill cap hand tight.
HOW TO ADD OIL
IMPORTANT! Read the Engine Oil section before adding oil
to ensure that it is suitable for the engine.
1. Place a funnel into the oil fill neck. The funnel opening should be
wide enough to prevent the oil from collecting in the funnel’s cone.
2. Pour oil into the funnel. Allow the oil to settle for one minute and
recheck the level. Repeat until the desired level is reached.

3. Insert the oil filler cap and hand tighten.
4. Wipe up any spilled oil. Dispose of oil soaked rags in a proper
hazardous waste container.
IMPORTANT! Used oil must be disposed of properly. Do
not pour it on the ground, down a drain or throw it in the
trash. Take the oil to your local recycling centre or a service
station for reclamation.
HOW TO DRAIN OIL
WARNING! Do not tip the engine while draining. This can
cause fuel to leak into the oil compartment, creating a
potential fire hazard. If this is unavoidable, drain the fuel
from the engine before draining the oil.
1. Run the engine for several minutes to warm the oil. Turn the
engine off.
2. Remove the dipstick.
3. Place an approved container below the oil
drain plug.
IMPORTANT! Used oil must be
disposed of properly. Do not pour it
on the ground, down a drain or throw
it in the trash. Take the oil to your
local recycling centre or a service
station for reclamation.
REPLACE THE OIL FILTER
WARNING! Both the oil and the filter may be hot and can
inflict a burn injury. Wait until the engine has cooled. Wear
gloves while handling the filter and make sure not to spill
the oil contained in the filter.
1. Drain oil from engine, then retighten the drain bolt.
2. Remove the oil filter by turning it clockwise by hand.
A stuck filter may require a tool to remove it. Use a properly
sized oil filter cup socket if the cup is equipped with a nut. Use
a strap wrench or oil filter pliers if the model does not have a
cup. Only loosen the filter enough to remove it by hand.

3. Drain the oil from the filter into a suitable container. Dispose of
both according to your municipal by-laws.
4. Clean the mounting threads of debris and old oil.
5. Coat the filter's seal with fresh oil.
6. Screw the filter clockwise by hand onto the mounting threads
until hand-tight. Then tighten another 3/4 turn. Check the oil filter
manufacturer's instructions to determine if further tightening is
necessary.
Do not use a strap wrench to tighten the filter.
7. Refil the engine with oil. See Specifications for the additonal
amount of oil necessary for the oil filter.
8. Start the engine and check if oil is leaking.
9. Stop the engine, then check the oil level. Top up with more oil if
necessary.
SERVICE THE AIR FILTER
NOTICE! Operating the engine with a damaged or missing
air filter will allow dust and debris to enter the engine,
causing rapid engine wear or scoring on the engine pistons.
Always ensure the air filter is in place.
A dirty air filter will restrict airflow to the carburetor, reducing the
engine’s performance. Clean the air filter more frequently than
specified in the maintenance schedule if the engine is used in dusty
areas.
1. Remove the center screw in the air cleaner's cover.
2. Remove the air cleaner’s outside cover. Do not allow dirt and
debris from to fall into the air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove the air filter from the air filter housing.
4. Clean the housing interior with warm soap and water. Allow to dry
before reassembly.
5. Inspect the air filter to see if you can clean it or if it should be
discarded. Discard if it is too dirty and replace with a new filter.
a. Clean dirty air filter with warm water and mild soap or a non-
flammable solvent. Replace the water as necessary, until the
water is no longer dirty. Do not use a flammable solvent to
clean the foam filter. The solvent may dissolve or clog the
