read these short instructions carefully before installing the device. When handled with care, it
will serve you for many years.
When used in combination with HW4 software, the loggers are FDA CFR 21/1 and GAMP4
compliant.

General description
The HygroLog HL20 data logger can record up to 20,000 pairs of relative humidity and temperature
values within the range of 0 to 100 %RH and -10 to 60 °C (14 to 140 °F).

Allgemeine Beschreibung
Der HygroLog HL20 Datenlogger kann bis zu 20‘000 Messwertpaare, relative Feuchte und Tempe-
ratur, in einem Bereich von 0 bis 100 %rF und -10 bis 60 °C (14 bis 140 °F) aufzeichnen.

Insert or replace battery
The ROTRONIC HygroLog HL20 data logger operates with 3 x AA 1.5 V alkaline batteries.
In order to insert or change the battery, loose the screw from the back panel. Afterwards remove
the back cover and the battery compartment is accessible.
Battery control
The HL20 has integrated battery control. The control is only active when the device is NOT connected
to the PC and function key is pressed. The measured value is stored in the logger memory and will
only be updated when function key will be pressed again.
Mechanical installation / General recommendations
Relative humidity is extremely temperature-dependent. In order to measure it exactly, the device
must be set exactly on the temperature level of the environment that is to be measured. The
installation site can therefore have a signifi cant infl uence on the performance of the instrument.
Follow the guidelines below to ensure optimum performance:
a) Select a representative installation site: Install the probe at a point where the humidity, tempe-
rature and pressure conditions are representative for the environment that is to be measured.
b) Make sure there is suffi cient air movement around the device: An air fl ow of at least 1 meter/
second accelerates and facilitates adjustment of the probe to changing temperatures.
c) Avoid: (1) Device too close to heating elements, cooling coils, cold or hot walls, direct sunlight,
etc. (2) Device too close to steam, injectors, humidifi ers or direct precipitation. (3) Unstable
pressure conditions with high air turbulence. (4) Avoid accumulation of condensation at the
contact wires of the sensor.
Mounting the HygroLog HL20
The device can be either mounted to a wall with the delivered screw or placed anywhere on a desk.
Mounting to a wall: Drill the necessary hole and insert the plug delivered with the device. Turn
the screw into the wall, so that the screw head has a distance of about 2-3 mm (1/8 ”) from the
wall to hang the logger to the screw.
Einsetzen oder Austauschen der Batterien
Die ROTRONIC HygroLog HL20 Datenlogger werden mit 3 AA-Batterien betrieben.
Beim Einsetzen oder Austauschen der Batterien, lösen Sie die Schraube der hinteren Abdeckung
wie gezeigt in (Fig.1). Danach öffnen Sie die Abdeckung und haben Zugriff auf das Batteriefach.
Batterie-Überwachung
Der HL20 hat eine Batterie-Überwachung integriert. Diese ist aktiv, wenn das Gerät NICHT mit dem
PC verbunden ist und die Funktionstaste gedrückt wird. Der gemessene Wert wird in den Speicher
gelegt und erst beim nächsten Drücken der Funktionstaste wieder aktualisiert.
Mechanische Installation / Allgemeine Empfehlung
Die relative Feuchte ist extrem temperaturabhängig. Deren exakte Messung erfordert, dass Fühler
und Sensoren genau auf dem Temperaturniveau der zu messenden Umgebung sind. Daher kann
der gewählte Installationsort einen bedeutenden Einfl uss auf die Leistung des Gerätes haben.
Die Einhaltung der folgenden Richtlinien garantiert Ihnen eine optimale Leistung des Gerätes:
a) Wählen Sie einen repräsentativen Installationsort: installieren Sie das Gerät an einem Ort, wo
die Feuchte- Temperatur- und Druckverhältnisse für die zu messende Umgebung repräsentativ
sind.
b) Stellen Sie genügend Luftbewegung am Gerät sicher: Eine Luftgeschwindigkeit von mindestens
1 Meter/Sekunde beschleunigt und erleichtert die Anpassung des Fühlers an wechselnde
Temperaturen.
c) Zu vermeiden sind: (1) Gerät zu nahe an Heizelement, Kühlschlange, kalter oder warmer Wand,
direkte Sonneneinstrahlung etc. (2) Fühler zu nahe an Dampf-Injektor, Befeuchter, oder direkter
Niederschlag. (3) Unstabile Druckverhältnisse bei grossen Luftturbulenzen. (4) Vermeiden Sie
die Ansammlung von Kondensat an den Kontaktdrähten des Sensors.
Montage von HygroLog HL20
Das Gerät kann mit den mitgelieferten Schrauben an eine Wand montiert oder an einem beliebigen
Ort hingestellt werden.
Wandmontage: Bohren Sie das Loch und setzen Sie den mitgelieferten Dübel ein. Drehen Sie die
Schraube in die Wand, sodass der Schraubenkopf einen Abstand von ca. 2-3 mm zur Wand hat
um den Logger an der Schraube aufzuhängen.
Optional Display
To view the measured or calculated data, press briefl y on the function key. When the display
sleep function is not enabled, the display can be manually turned off by pressing briefl y on the
function key.
To conserve battery power, models with a display are shipped with the Display Sleep function
enabled (set to 1 minute) and with the display backlight disabled. When confi gured in this manner
the data logger can record data for extended periods of time.
Data logging
To start or stop recording data, press on this key for a few seconds. When the data logger
is recording data, this is indicated by the display message bar and by the LED indicator
fl ashes green every 5 seconds. When the display sleep function is enabled, the display
goes blank after some time in order to conserve battery power.
Data recording modes
Loop: when the memory is full the logger dumps the oldest data sample and keeps recording. The
memory retains the most recent data.
Start-Stop: the logger stops recording data as soon as the memory is full
Displaying recorded Data
Downloading and viewing of recorded data, requires a PC with the ROTRONIC HW4 software installed
as well as a service cable such as the AC3006. One end of the cable plugs into the service / data con-
nector (Fig.1). The other end plugs into the USB of a PC with the ROTRONIC HW4 software installed.

Optionales Display
Drücken Sie kurz die Funktionstaste um die gemessenen und berechneten Werte anzusehen. Wenn
die Displayfunkton Sleep nicht aktiviert ist, kann das Display manuell durch kurzes drücken der
Funktionstaste ausgeschaltet werden.
Um Strom zu sparen, werden die Modelle mit einem LC-Display in der Displayfunktion Sleep
ausgeliefert. Die Hintergrundbeleuchtung ist deaktiviert und auf 1 Minute eingestellt. Daten-
logger welche auf diese Weise konfi guriert sind, können somit Daten über einen längeren
Zeitraum aufzeichnen.
Datenaufzeichnung
Um eine Datenaufzeichnung zu starten oder stoppen, drücken Sie für einige Sekunden
die Funktionstaste. Während dem Aufzeichnen der Daten blinkt die Statusanzeige alle
5 Sekunden grün. Wenn die Displayfunktion Sleep aktiviert ist, geht das Display nach
einiger Zeit aus um die Batterien zu schonen.
Datenaufzeichnungs-Modus
Loop: Wenn der Speicher voll ist, wird die älteste Aufzeichnung gelöscht um Platz für neue Daten
zu schaffen.
Start-Stopp: Sobald der Speicher voll ist, stoppt der Logger mit der Datenaufzeichnung.
Anzeigen der aufgezeichneten Daten
Das Herunterladen und Anzeigen der aufgezeichneten Daten erfordert einen PC, auf dem die
ROTRONIC HW4-Software installiert ist, und ein Servicekabel AC3006.

Inserimento o sostituzione delle batterie
Il Datalogger HygroLog HL20 di ROTRONIC viene azionato da 3 batterie AA.
Per inserire o sostituire le batterie allentare la vite che fi ssa il portellino posteriore, come mostrato
in (Fig.1). Dopo di che, aprendo il portellino si avrà accesso al vano batterie.
Monitoraggio della batteria:
HL20 dispone di un monitoraggio interno della batteria:Questo é attivo quando il datalogger NON
é connesso al PC e quando il tasto funzione viene premuto.
Il valore di misura viene memorizzato e aggiornato nuovamente premendo il tasto funzione.
Installazione meccanica/Raccomandazioni generali
L'umidità relativa dipende in modo notevole dalla temperatura. Per una rilevazione esatta è
necessario che sonde e sensori siano esattamente al livello di temperatura dell'ambiente da mi-
surare. Per questo motivo la scelta del luogo di installazione può infl uenzare in modo signifi cativo
la prestazione dell'apparecchio. Il rispetto delle seguenti direttive garantisce una prestazione
ottimale dell'apparecchio:
a) Selezionare un luogo per l'installazione rappresentativo: installare l'apparecchio in un luogo
in cui il rapporto fra umidità, temperatura e pressione sia rappresentativo per l'ambiente in
cui vengono eseguite le rilevazioni.
b) Assicurare l'esposizione dell'apparecchio ad una corrente d'aria suffi ciente: una velocità
dell'aria di almeno 1 metro/secondo accelera e facilita l'adeguamento della sonda al cam-
biamento della temperatura.
c) Sono da evitare: (1) il posizionamento dell'apparecchio troppo vicino ad un elemento riscal-
dante, ad una serpentina di raffreddamento, ad una parete fredda o calda e l'esposizione
all'irraggiamento diretto del sole, ecc. (2) il posizionamento della sonda troppo vicino ad un
iniettore di vapore, un umidifi catore o l'esposizione alle precipitazioni dirette. (3) rapporti di
pressione instabili a causa della presenza di turbolenze atmosferiche elevate. (4) la raccolta
di condensa sui cavi di contatto del sensore.
Montaggio di HygroLog HL20
L'apparecchio può essere montato a parete, utilizzando le viti fornite in dotazione, oppure può
essere posizionato nel luogo desiderato grazie.
Montaggio a parete: Forare la parete ed inserire il tassello fornito in dotazione. Avvitare la vite
nella parete in modo che la testa della vite mantenga una distanza di ca. 2-3 mm dalla parete
stessa, dopo di che appendere il Logger alla vite.
Display opzionale
Premere brevemente il tasto funzione per visualizzare i valori rilevati e calcolati. Se la funzione
Sleep del display non è attivata, il display può essere spento manualmente premendo brevemente
il tasto funzione.
Per risparmiare corrente, i modelli dotati di display LCD vengono forniti con il display in funzione
Sleep. La retroilluminazione è disattivata e impostata su 1 minuto. I Datalogger così confi gurati
sono in grado di registrare dati per un periodo di tempo molto prolungato.
Registrazione dati
Per avviare o interrompere la registrazione dati, premere il tasto funzione per qualche
secondo. Quando la registrazione dati è in corso, la spia di stato lampeggia di luce
verde ogni 5 secondi. Se la funzione Sleep del display è attivata, dopo un po' di tempo
il display si spegne per risparmiare le batterie.
Modalità di registrazione dati
Loop: quando la memoria è piena, la registrazione più vecchia viene cancellata per lasciare spazio
a nuovi dati.
Start-Stop: non appena la memoria è piena, il Logger interrompe la registrazione dati.
Visualizzazione dei dati registrati
Per scaricare e visualizzare i dati registrati è necessario disporre di un PC su cui sia stato installato
il software HW4 di ROTRONIC e un cavo di servizio AC3006.

Installation ou changement des piles
Les logger de données HygroLog HL20 sont alimentés par 3 piles AA. Pour installer ou changer les
piles, retirez la vis sur le capot arrière de l’appareil selon les indications (fi g. 1). Retirez ensuite
le capot pour avoir accès aux piles.
Surveillance de la pile
Le HL20 intège un système de contrôle de la pile. Celui-ci est actif lorsque l’appareil n’est PAS
relié au PC et que la touche de fonction est pressée. La valeur mesurée est mise en mémoire et
n’est actualisée qu’à la prochaine pression de la touche de fonction.
Installation mécanique / Recommandations et conseils
L’humidité relative est très fortement dépendante de la température. Pour la précision de la
mesure, le capteur et les éléments sensibles doivent être exactement à la température de l’envi-
ronnement à mesurer. Le choix du site d’installation peut donc avoir une infl uence décisive sur les
performances de l’instrument. Le respect des directives suivantes vous garantit des performances
optimales de l’appareil :
a) Choisissez un endroit correct pour l’installation: installez l’appareil à un endroit dont les
conditions d’humidité, de température et de pression correspondent aux conditions environ-
nementales à mesurer.
b) Assurez-vous que l’aération est suffi sante autour de l’appareil: une vitesse d’air d’1 mètre/
seconde accélère et facilite l’adaptation du capteur aux changements de température.
c) Les facteurs à éviter sont: (1) Proximité de l’appareil avec un élément de chauffage, circuit de
refroidissement, mur chaud ou froid, rayonnement solaire direct, etc. (2) Capteur trop proche
d’un injecteur de vapeur, humidifi cateur ou directement exposé aux précipitations.
(3) Conditions de pression instable avec de fortes turbulences de l’air. (4) Évitez l’accumulation
de condensé sur les câbles de contact de l’élément sensible.
Montage de l’HygroLog HL20
L’appareil peut être monté sur une paroi avec les vis jointes à la livraison ou installé dans un
endroit quelconque.
Montage mural: percez la paroi et installez la cheville fournie. Vissez la vis dans la paroi en laissant
la tête dépasser d’environ 2 ou 3 mm afi n de pouvoir accrocher le logger.
Affi chage optionnel
Pressez brièvement la touche de fonction pour affi cher les valeurs mesurées et calculées. Lorsque
la fonction «Sleep» n’est pas activée, l’appareil peut être mis hors service en appuyant brièvement
sur la touche de fonction.
Afi n d’économiser de l’énergie, les modèles équipés d’un écran LC sont livrés avec la fonction
«Sleep» activée. Le rétroéclairage est désactivé et réglé sur 1 minute. La confi guration des loggers
de données selon ces critères permet de prolonger la durée de l’enregistrement des données.
Enregistrement de données
Pressez pendant quelques secondes la touche de fonction pour démarrer ou arrêter
l’enregistrement des données. L’indicateur d’état clignote en vert toutes les 5 secondes.
Lorsque la fonction «Sleep» est activée, l’affi chage est interrompu après un certain
temps pour économiser les piles.
Modes d’enregistrement des données
Loop: lorsque la mémoire est pleine, l’enregistrement le plus ancien est effacé pour procurer de
l’espace mémoire.
Start-Stop: l’enregistrement des données est stoppé lorsque la mémoire est pleine.
Affi chage des données enregistrées
Le chargement et l’affi chage des données enregistrées nécessitent un PC muni du logiciel ROTRONIC
HW4 et un câble de service AC3006.
