HYDRAULIC PRECAUTIONS
DANGER! Seek immediate medical attention if hydraulic fluid under pressure
penetrates your skin. See Injection Injury precautions for instructions
before using a pressurized hydraulic system.
1. Do not touch or handle hydraulic hoses or components while under
pressure. Hydraulic fluid escaping under pressure has sufficient force to
penetrate your clothing and skin. A pinpoint hole may inject hydraulic fluid
into your body. Seek immediate medical attention if this occurs (see
Injection Injury).
2. Never exceed the hydraulic systems load capacity (see Specifications).
3. Do not adjust the hydraulic systems relief setting. The settings are pre-set
by the factory.
4. Hydraulic oil under pressure is hot and can cause a burn injury if touched,
sprayed or spilled. Allow the hydraulic system to cool before conducting
maintenance.
5. Hydraulic components require regular inspection. Release all pressure
from the system before you inspect it. Replace damaged hydraulic parts
with identical manufacturer's components.
6. Do not attempt makeshift repairs to a hydraulic system. Such repairs can
fail suddenly and create a hazardous condition.
7. A damaged or disconnected hydraulic hose under pressure may whip
around and inflict personal injury or damage the work area. Secure the
hose to a fixed or permanent structure with clamps or cable ties.
8. Hydraulic fluid has a combustible flash point of 200°F (93°F). Do not
expose the fluid to an ignition source.
9. Change your clothing immediately if sprayed with hydraulic fluid. Store
clothing or rags contaminated with hydraulic fluid in an approved metal
safety can with a spring-closing lid and venting designed to contain a fire.
10. Only use hydraulic fluid in the pump. Do not substitute or mix brake fluid,
or any other fluid, with the hydraulic fluid. This can result in a pump failure
and injure the user or bystander. It may also damage the pump.

INJECTION INJURY
DANGER! Seek immediate, professional medical treatment if fluid penetrates
your skin. It may feel like a pricking or sting. Do not wait for the appearance
of symptoms. A toxic reaction can occur from the exposure. Delay in
treatment can lead to amputation or death.
Inform the medical staff that you have a fluid penetration injury as soon as you
arrive at the medical facility. The severity of the symptoms will depend on the
type of fluid injected. Bring the Safety Data Sheet for the fluid with you to the
medical facility if possible.
INJECTION PRECAUTIONS
Fluid can penetrate the skin at 100 PSI pressure. Fluid escaping under pressure
from the tool has sufficient force to penetrate your clothing and skin. Follow the
precautions below to avoid an injection injury.
1. Always check for leaks wearing a face shield, safety goggles, rubberized
gloves and protective clothes.
2. Release all pressure from the system before you inspect it.
3. Do not use your hands to detect a fluid leak. Use a large piece of wood,
cardboard or paper and watch for discolouration.
4. Replace damaged parts with identical manufacturer's components to
ensure it is rated to handle the pressure.

when the jaws open. The spreader connects directly to the pump (B).
ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION
Numbered references in parenthesis (#1) refer to the included Parts List. Letter
references in parenthesis (A) refer to the included Identification Key.
RAM SET-UP
All accessories and adapters are friction fit, except the ram toe (I). Lubricate the
inside of the accessory with grease if it does not slide on until seated.
1. Screw the handle (#12) into the pump’s handle socket (#13).
2. Screw the hydraulic hose (B) onto the ram’s (C) inlet port until hand tight.
3. Slide an accessory onto the ram piston and push it down until fully seated.
4. Press the male connector (M) into the ram end, adding grease as
necessary. Press the flat base (H) or body toe (J) onto the male connector.
Fitting other accessories to the male connector is not recommended. The
ram needs a wide base to distribute the force applied at the other end of
the ram.
5. Add one or more extension tubes (D) between the accessory and the ram
piston or male connector to help fit the ram into a space or reduce the
distance the ram must travel.
a. When using two or more extension tubes together, arrange them with
the longest attached to the ram and the shortest as the final tube
attached to the accessory.
6. Screw the ram toe (I) onto the pump if using it to spread a workpiece.
Remove the plastic cap from the ram to expose the threads. Thread the
ram toe into place until it is tight. Place the body toe on the piston and
make sure it is aligned with the ram toe. Do not attempt to use this set-up
when the body toe is not aligned.

DUCKBILL SPREADER SET-UP
1. Screw the handle (#12) into the pump’s handle socket (#13).
2. Screw the hydraulic hose (B) onto the duckbill spreader’s (F) inlet port
until hand tight.
OPERATION
The Porta-Power Repair Kit has various attachments to push, pull, stretch and
spread metal structure and panels to reshape them. The pump works in both
the vertical and horizontal position. The oil filling screw must be at the top when
used in a vertical position.
1. Set-up the ram or duckbill spreader. Attach to the pump.
2. Loosen the oil filling screw (#35) several turns to allow air to enter the pump.
3. Open the pump valve (#29) clockwise to allow oil to flow to the ram.
4. Place a block of wood or similar buffer at the end of the accessory that is
bracing the ram to protect the vehicle structure.
5. Pump the handle slowly until the accessory touches the workpiece. Continue
pumping to apply pressure to the workpiece until it is reshaped as desired.
6. Slowly turn the pump valve counterclockwise one turn to release the
pressure and allow the oil to flow back into the pump’s cylinder. Tighten
the pump valve.
7. Tighten the oil filling screw until tight.
8. Remove and store the attachments and extensions.
ACCESSORY
Each accessory can be used by itself or in conjunction with other accessories to
apply force against a vehicles panels and frame to reshape or realign them.
REDUCED TONNAGE CAPACITY
The base ram set-up is an accessory directly attached to the ram piston and
another to the base via the male connector. This retains the full tonnage capacity
(see Specifications). Reduce the tonnage capacity by 50 percent for each extra
attachment or extension tube added to the ram. Two extension tubes or an
extension tube with another accessory will reduce the tonnage capacity to 25
percent (4 Ton to 2 ton for extension tube to 1 ton for the third attachment).
8667826 4 Ton Hydraulic Porta-Power Autobody and Frame Repair Kit V4.0
10 For technical questions call 1-800-665-8685
Always use the longest extension tube possible to avoid minimizing the
tonnage capacity.
ADAPTERS
Extension Tubes (D) extend the rams reach between 3-1/4 to 33-3/16 in.
Extension tubes are attached end-to-end from. Always arrange multiple
extension tubes with the longest piece connected to the ram piston and the
shortest piece connected to the accessory.
The male connector (M) is inserted into the rams base. Accessories or
extension tubes can then be attached to the ram.
PUSHING
The primary method to modify the structure is pushing the damaged structure
back into place
1. Install the flat base or body toe at the bottom of the ram. This provides a flat
area to brace against and spreads out the force, allowing the narrower
accessory on the piston head to concentrate the force and reshape the metal.
2. Determine the distance between the bracing point and the damaged structure
by holding the ram in place. Add extension tubes to the piston end to extend
the reach, remembering to accommodate the length of the accessory. The
distance left should be less than the ram pistons stroke length (see
Specifications). Stop and add additional extension tubes as needed.
a. Depending on the workspace, you may need to add an extension
between the ram and the flat base/toe plunger to fit it into the
available space.
3. Choose the appropriate accessory based on the type of repair being
attempted and install it on the ram piston.
a. The body toe (J) must be aligned so the offset flange is aligned with
the length of the flat base. This will keep the force parallel to the
direction of the bend. Using the body toe to push in any other
configuration can result in a failure and result in damage or injury.
This does not apply when using the body toe as a base.

SPREADING
Spreading is used to move two parts of a structure away from a central point.
There are three options: the duckbill spreader for short distances, the ram toe
and body toe for distances up to nearly 6 inches and a pushing set-up for larger
distances.
DUCKBILL SPREADER
WARNING! Keep fingers away from the duckbill spreader when opening or
closing. The hydraulic or spring pressure can crush or pinch an appendage
causing a crushing injury.
1. Set-up the duckbill spreader.
2. Wedge the closed jaws into available space. If the space is slightly larger,
hold the duckbill spreader into position until it spreads enough to be held
in place.
3. Begin pumping until the spreader is firmly held in position. Continue to
pump to widen the jaws until the metal workpiece is separated to the
desired gap or the jaws are at their maximum width.
4. Release pressure until the jaws are shut.
RAM TOE AND BODY TOE
Both the body toe and ram toe have offset flanges. The two parts are always
used together to separate a damaged workpiece. Using just one or the other can
cause an unbalanced load on the ram.
1. Set-up the ram toe and body toe on the hydraulic pump. Add extension tubes
until the body toe is within six inches of the gap between the two sides of the
workpiece. Remember each extension reduces the force by 50 percent.
2. Place the ram toe flush against the inside of the workpiece.
3. Hold the ram in place if necessary. Slowly pump until the body toe is firmly
seated against the opposite inner surface. Check that the body toe and ram
toe are still aligned.
4. Pump to spread the workpiece until it has reached the desired point.
a. You may need to add another extension tube or replace an existing
one with a longer tube to complete the task if the ram has reached its
full extension.
5. Release pressure until the piston fully retracts.

improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.
HYDRAULIC RAM MAINTENANCE
Monthly maintenance is recommended for the hydraulic ram. Any restrictions
due to dirt, rust, etc. can cause the either slow movement or extremely rapid
jerks, damaging the internal components. The following steps are designed to
keep the pump maintained and operational.
1. Lubricate the cylinder and the pumping mechanism with light oil.
2. Visually inspect for cracked welds, bent, loose, missing parts or hydraulic
oil leaks.
3. Inspect the hydraulic ram immediately if it was subjected to an abnormal
load or shock load.
4. Remove any hydraulic pump from service that is damaged, worn down or
operates abnormally, until repaired by an authorized service technician.
5. Check and maintain the ram oil level.
a. Lower the ram piston fully. Lay the hydraulic pump in the horizontal
position.
b. Remove the oil filler screw to check the hydraulic oil level. Replace the
oil filler screw if the level is adequate and ignore the next two steps.
c. Add high quality hydraulic jack oil If the level is low. Fill to within half
an inch from the opening.
d. Bleed the hydraulic pump.
V4.0 4 Ton Hydraulic Porta-Power Autobody and Frame Repair Kit 8667826
Visit www.princessauto.com for more information 13
6. Always store the hydraulic ram in the fully retracted position. This will help
protect critical areas from corrosion.
7. Do not use brake or transmission fluids or regular motor oil as they can
damage the seals. Always purchase and use products labeled Hydraulic Oil.
BLEEDING THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
Bleed excess air from the hydraulic system as follows:
1. Open the release valve by turning it counterclockwise.
2. Remove the oil filler screw and fill the pump with hydraulic fluid.
3. Wait 5 minutes for trapped air to rise to the surface.
4. Pump the handle or pedal for several full strokes to eliminate any air in
the system.
5. Check the oil filler hole and if necessary, top off with more hydraulic oil.
6. Restore the oil filler screw. Close the release valve by turning clockwise.
7. Test the ram several times for proper operation before putting it into use. Do
not use the ram if it still does not appear to be working properly. Have a
qualified service technician service or repair the hydraulic system.
DISPOSAL
Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.
Contact your local municipality for a list of disposal facilities or by-laws for
electronic devices, batteries, oil or other toxic liquids.
IMPORTANT! DO NOT pollute the environment by allowing uncontrolled
discharge of waste oil.
DISPOSAL - HYDRAULIC FLUID
