Be sure to read this manual before servicing. To assure safety from fire, electric shock, injury, harmful
radiation and materials, various measures are provided in this Hitachi Multimedia LDC Projector. Be sure to
read cautionary items described in the manual to maintain safety before servicing.
Service Warning
1. When replacing the lamp, avoid burns to your fingers. The lamp becomes too hot.
2. Never touch the lamp bulb with a finger or anything else. Never drop it or give it a shock. They may cause
bursting of the bulb.
3. This projector is provided with a high voltage circuit for the lamp. Do not touch the electric parts of power
unit, when turning on the projector.
4. Do not touch the exhaust fan, during operation.
5. The LCD module assembly is likely to be damaged. If replacing the LCD module assembly, do not hold
the FPC of the LCD module assembly.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: The following precautions must be observed.
ALL PRODUCTS
Before any service is performed on the chassis an
isolation transformer should be inserted between the
power line and the product.
1. When replacing the chassis in the cabinet, ensure
all the protective devices are put back in place.
2. When service is required, observe the original
lead dressing. Extra precaution should be taken to
ensure correct lead dressing in any high voltage
circuitry area.
3. Many electrical and mechanical parts in
HITACHI products have special safety related
characteristics. These characteristics are often not
evident from visual inspection, nor can the
protection afforded by them necessarily be
obtained by using replacement components rated
for higher voltage, wattage, etc. Replacement
parts which have these special safety
characteristics are identified by marking with a
! on the schematics and the replacement parts
list.
The use of a substitute replacement component
that does not have the same safety characteristics
as the HITACHI recommended replacement one,
shown in the parts list, may create electrical
shock, fire, X-radiation, or other hazards.
4. Always replace original spacers and maintain lead
lengths. Furthermore, where a short circuit has
occurred, replace those components that indicate
evidence of overheating.
5. Insulation resistance should not be less than 2M
ohms at 500V DC between the main poles and
any accessible metal parts.
6. No flashover or breakdown should occur during
the dielectric strength test, applying 3kV AC or
4.25kV DC for two seconds between the main
poles and accessible metal parts.
7. Before returning a serviced product to the
customer, the service technician must thoroughly
test the unit to be certain that it is completely safe
to operate without danger of electrical shock. The
service technician must make sure that no
protective device built into the instrument by the
manufacturer has become defective, or
inadvertently damaged during servicing.
CE MARK
1. HITACHI products may contain the CE mark on
the rating plate indicating that the product
contains parts that have been specifically
approved to provide electromagnetic
compatibility to designated levels.
2. When replacing any part in this product, please
use only the correct part itemised in the parts list
to ensure this standard is maintained, and take
care to replace lead dressing to its original state,
as this can have a bearing on the electromagnetic
radiation/immunity.
PICTURE TUBE
1. The line output stage can develop voltages in
excess of 25kV; if the E.H.T. cap is required to be
removed, discharge the anode to chassis via a
high value resistor, prior to its removal from the
picture tube.
2. High voltage should always be kept at the rated
value of the chassis and no higher. Operating at
higher voltages may cause a failure of the picture
tube or high voltage supply, and also, under
certain circumstances could produce X-radiation
levels moderately in excess of design levels. The
high voltage must not, under any circumstances,
exceed 29kV on the chassis (except for projection
Televisions).
3. The primary source of X-radiation in the product
is the picture tube. The picture tube utilised for
the above mentioned function in this chassis is
specially constructed to limit X-radiation. For
continued X-radiation protection, replace tube
with the same type as the original HITACHI
approved type
4. Keep the picture tube away from the body while
handling. Do not install, remove, or handle the
picture tube in any manner unless shatterproof
goggles are worn. People not so equipped should
be kept away while picture tubes are handled
LASERS
If the product contains a laser avoid direct exposure to
the beam when the cover is open or when interlocks are
defeated or have failed.

POUR TOUS LES PRODUITS
Avant d’effectuer une intervention d’entretien sur le
châssis, vous devez insérer un transformateur d’isolement
entre la ligne d’alimentation électrique et le produit.
1. Lors de la remontage du châssis dans le coffret,
vérifiez que tous les dispositifs de protection sont
remis en place.
2. Lorsqu’une intervention d’entretien s’avère
nécessaire, respectez l’agencement d’origine des
conducteurs. Vous devez prendre des précautions
supplémentaires pour garantir un agencement correct
des conducteurs dans toutes les zones où des circuits
haute tension sont présents.
3. De nombreux composants électriques et mécaniques
des appareils HITACHI ont des caractéristiques
spéciales de sécurité. Bien souvent, ces
caractéristiques ne sont pas évidentes lors d’un
examen visuel et la protection qu’ils offrent n’est pas
forcément garantie si vous utilisez des composants de
rechange conçus, par exemple, pour une tension plus
élevée, une puissance plus forte. Les pièces de
rechange qui offrent des caractéristiques spéciales de
sécurité sont identifiées par un repérage comportant
le symbole ! sur les schémas et sur la
nomenclature des pièces de rechange.
L’emploi d’un composant de rechange qui ne
respecte pas les mêmes caractéristiques de sécurité
que la pièce de rechange que recommande HITACHI
et qui figure dans la nomenclature risque de
provoquer un choc électrique, un incendie, des rayons
X ou d’autres dangers.
4. Remettez toujours en place les entretoises d’origine
et respectez la longueur des conduites. En outre, à la
suite d’un court-circuit, remplacez les composants
présentant des signes de surchauffe.
5. La résistance d’isolement doit être supérieure ou
égale à 2 méga ohms à 500 V c.c. entre les pôles
principaux et des composants métalliques
accessibles, quels qu’ils soient.
6. Aucun claquage et aucune rupture ne doit se produire
pendant l’essai de résistance diélectrique à la suite de
l’application d’une tension de 3 kV c.a. ou de 4,35
kV c.c. pendant deux secondes entre les pôles
principaux et des composants métalliques
accessibles.
7. Avant de remettre au client un produit qui a fait
l’objet d’un entretien, le technicien qui s’est chargé
de cette intervention doit tester à fond cet ensemble
pour s’assurer qu’il ne présente aucun danger
opérationnel et aucun risque de choc électrique. Ce
technicien doit s’assurer qu’aucun des dispositifs de
protection intégrés à cet instrument par le fabricant
n’est défectueux ou n’a été endommagé de façon
accidentelle lors de l’entretien.
LABEL CE
1. Les produits HITACHI peuvent avoir reçu le label
CE qui figure sur la plaque signalétique pour indiquer
que cet ensemble contient des composants qui ont fait
l’objet d’une homologation spécifique de respect des
normes de compatibilité électromagnétique en
fonction de niveaux bien spécifiés.
2. Lors du remplacement d’un des composants de ce
produit, utilisez uniquement le composant correct
identifié dans la nomenclature afin de maintenir le
respect de cette norme ; en outre, vous devez
également ramener l’agencement des conducteurs à
son état d’origine car cela peut avoir une influence au
niveau des rayonnements électromagnétiques et sur la
protection contre ces rayons.
PICTURE TUBE
1. L’étage de sortie des lignes peut développer des
tensions de plus de 25 kV ; s’il faut retirer le chapeau
de protection contre les tensions extrêmement
élevées, il convient de décharger l’anode contre le
châssis par le biais d’une résistance de forte valeur
avant de déposer ce chapeau du tube image.
2. La haute tension doit toujours se maintenir à la valeur
nominale du châssis et ne pas dépasser cette dernière.
Un fonctionnement à des températures élevées peut
provoquer une défaillance du tube image ou l’entrée
d’une tension élevée. Dans certains cas, cela peut
même provoquer des rayons X d’un niveau
légèrement supérieur aux valeurs de calcul. Cette
haute tension ne doit en aucun cas dépasser 29 kV sur
le châssis (à l’exception des téléviseurs de
projection).
3. La principale source de rayons X de cet appareil est
le tube image. Le tube image employé pour assurer la
fonction susmentionnée dans ce châssis est
spécialement construit pour limiter des rayons X.
Pour maintenir cette protection contre les rayons X, il
faut remplacer le tube d’origine d’un type agréé par
HITACHI par un autre tube de même type.
4. Lors des manipulations, ne tenez jamais le tube
image contre le corps. Pendant toutes les opérations
d’installation, de dépose et de manipulation de ce
tube image, quelle que soit la méthode employée,
vous devez toujours porter des lunettes de sécurité
anti-éclatements. Les personnes qui ne portent pas ce
type de lunettes doivent se tenir à l’écart du tube
image lors de la manipulation de ce dernier.
RAYONS LASER
Si ce produit contient un rayon laser, évitez toute
exposition directe à ce faisceau lors de l’ouverture du
couvercle ou lors de l’élimination des verrouillages de
sécurité ou après défaillance de ces verrouillages.

Bevor die Grundplatte gewartet wird, sollte ein Trenntrafo

originale Verdrahtungsart ein. Besondere Vorsicht ist
nötig, um die korrekte Verdrahtungsart in jedem
Hochspannungsstromkreis zu gewährleisten.
3. Viele elektrische und mechanische Teile von
HITACHI Produkten haben besondere
sicherheitsbezogene Eigenschaften. Diese
Eigenschaften fallen oft nicht ins Auge, aber der
durch sie gewährte Schutz kann nicht unbedingt
erreicht werden, wenn man Ersatzteile benutzt, die
für höhere Spannung, Leistung usw. ausgelegt sind.
Ersatzteile, die diese besonderen
Sicherheitsmerkmale haben, sind in den
Prinzipskizzen und Ersatzteillisten an einem ! zu
erkennen.
Der Gebrauch von Ersatzteilen, die nicht dieselben
Sicherheitsmerkmale haben wie die empfohlenen
HITACHI Ersatzteile, wie sie in der Ersatzteilliste
aufgeführt sind, kann zu elektrischem Schlag, Feuer,
Röntgenstrahlung und anderen Gefahren führen.
4. Immer die originalen Abstandsstücke ersetzen und
die Leitungslängen beibehalten. Wo ein Kurzschluss
passiert ist, die Teile ersetzen, bei denen Überhitzung
nachzuweisen ist.
5. Der Isolierwert sollte bei 500 V Gleichstrom
zwischen den Hauptpolen und allen zugänglichen
Metallteilen nicht unter 2M Ohm liegen.
6. Bei der Prüfung auf Durchschlagsfestigkeit sollte
kein Überschlag oder Durchschlag vorkommen,
wenn zwei Sekunden lang 3 kV Wechselstrom oder
4,25 kV Gleichstrom zwischen den Hauptpolen und
allen zugänglichen Metallteilen angelegt wird.
7. Bevor das gewartete Produkt dem Kunden
zurückgegeben wird, muss der Wartungstechniker
das Gerät gründlich prüfen, um sicherzustellen, dass
es betriebssicher ist ohne das Risiko eines
elektrischen Schlages. Der Wartungstechniker muss
sicherstellen, dass keine vom Hersteller im Gerät
eingebaute Schutzvorkehrung schadhaft geworden ist
oder bei der Wartung unabsichtlich beschädigt
wurde.
CE KENNZEICHEN
1. HITACHI Produkte enthalten eventuell das CE
Kennzeichen auf dem Leistungsschild, welches
angibt, dass das Produkt Teile enthält, die eigens
zugelassen sind, um bis zu einem spezifizierten
Niveau elektromagnetische Störfreiheit zu bewirken.
2. Wenn Sie irgendein Teil in diesem Produkt ersetzen,

BILDRÖHRE
1. Die Leitungsausgangsstufe kann Spannungen von
mehr als 25 kV entwickeln; wenn die
Höchstspannungskappe entfernt werden muss,
entladen Sie die Anode zum Gehäuse über einen
hochohmigen Widerstand, bevor Sie sie aus der
Bildröhre entfernen.
2. Hochspannung sollte immer auf den festgelegten
Wert des Gehäuses beschränkt bleiben und nicht
mehr. Betrieb bei höherer Spannung kann zum
Versagen der Bildröhre oder zu hoher
Spannungszufuhr führen und kann unter Umständen
auch Röntgenstrahlung hervorbringen, die leicht über
dem Konstruktionsniveau liegt. Die Hochspannung
darf auf keinen Fall 29 kV am Gehäuse überschreiten
(außer bei Projektionsfernsehern).
3. Die Hauptquelle der Röntgenstrahlung im Produkt ist
die Bildröhre. Die Bildröhre, die für die oben
erwähnte Funktion in diesem Gehäuse benutzt wird,
ist eine Spezialkonstruktion zur Begrenzung der
Röntgenstrahlung. Um den Schutz vor der
Röntgenstrahlung zu behalten, ersetzen Sie bitte die
Röhre durch denselben Typ wie den ursprünglichen
von HITACHI zugelassenen.
8. Halten Sie die Bildröhre bei der Handhabung vom
Körper weg. Sie dürfen die Bildröhre nur dann
installieren, entfernen oder handhaben, wenn Sie eine
nicht splitternde Schutzbrille tragen. Personen ohne
derartigen Schutz sollten ferngehalten werden,
solange Bildröhren gehandhabt werden.
LASER
Wenn das Produkt einen Laser enthält, setzen Sie sich
keinesfalls direkt dem Strahl aus, wenn die Abdeckung
geöffnet ist oder wenn die Verriegelung versagt.

Loading the Battery
First Loading:
In original packing, the battery is installed in the battery holder of the
remote controller with protection film(the transparent filmsome of
which is inside the battery folder). Pull out the protection film to load
the battery.
Replacing:
1. See the reverse side of the remote controller.
2. Pinch the groove and pull out battery holder as the drawing right.
3. Remove the worn battery.
4. Install the new battery with “+” side facing.
5. Push in and click the battery holder.

Reset the lamp timer :
Please carry out the following operation within 10 minutes from power on, if you replaced the lamp after 2,000 hours.
1) Press the RESET button on projector for 3 seconds or
remote control transmitter TIMER button for 3 seconds and
display the total lamp used time.
2) Press the RESET button on projector or remote control
transmitter MENU ON button during displaying the lamp
used time.
3) Select the “0” on the screen using the MENU ( ) button or
DISK PAD.

Adjustment procedure
1. Use DAC-P - GHOST-W: in the Adjustment menu to
adjust so that ghost is at a minimum.
(Set the adjustment value to 16, then raise the
value. When a ghost appears to the left of a vertical
line, reduce the value by 2 steps.)
4 - 3 Flicker adjustment (V.COM adjustment)

1.Make this adjustment after completing the
adjustment in 4-2 Ghost adjustment.
2. Use DAC-P - V.COM - R: in the Adjust menu to
adjust so that the flicker at the center of the screen
is less than the flicker at the periphery.
(When the flicker is about the same across the
whole screen, adjust so that the flicker at the center
of the screen is somewhat less than elsewhere.)
If flicker adjustment is completed, [MENU SELECT]
button of the Remote control transmitter will be
pressed and it will change to a screen for the
vertical band adjustment.
When the vertical band is conspicuous, adjust to the
best point by less than 3 points from flicker
adjustment value.
3. In the same way, use DAC-P - V.COM - G: in the
Adjustment menu to adjust the G color flicker.
4. In the same way, use DAC-P - V.COM - B: in the
Adjustment menu to adjust the B color flicker.
4. Adjustment
4 - 1 Before adjusting
1. Before starting adjustment, warm up the projector
for about 10 min. (Blank white)
2. Set Zoom Wide to Max. and project an image a
distance of 40 inches.
3. Normalizing the video adjustment.
(Press the [MENU] button of the Remote control
transmitter to display the Setup menu, then press
the [RESET] button.)
*note :
The setup menu is not displayed on with no signal.
4. Perform all adjustments from the Adjustment menu.
Perform the following operations to display the
Adjustment menu.
a. Press the [MENU] button of the Remote control
transmitter (the Setup menu will appear).
b. Next, press the [RESET] button for 5 sec. or
more (the Adjustment menu will appear).

Adjustment procedure
1. Use DAC-P - PSIG - B: in the Adjust menu to adjust
so that the vertical lines are as inconspicuous as
possible.
4 - 5 White balance adjustment
1. Perform these adjustments after the PSIG
adjustment described in Section 4-4.
2. First, adjust the G color.
3. Place the cursor on Slide Show in the Adjust menu
[A/D], press the [ ] key three times to display G
monochrome and adjust the illuminance at the
center of the screen. Make a note of the setting
(here assumed to be A [lx]). Press the MENU key
to return.
4. Adjust Gamma 86% and G: in the Adjust menu so
that illuminance (Y) at the center of the screen is
adjusted as follows.
Y = A x 0.712 40 [lx]
5. Adjust Gamma, 43% and G: in the Adjust menu so
that illuminance (Y) at the center of the screen is
adjusted as follows.
Y = A x 0.155 15 [lx]
6. Adjust Gamma, 29% and G: in the Adjust menu so
that illuminance (Y) at the center of the screen are
adjusted as follows.
Y = A x 0.064 5 [lx]
7. Adjust Gamma, 14% and G: in the Adjust menu so
that illuminance (Y) at the center of the screen is
adjusted as follows.
Y = A x 0.014 1 [lx]
8. Adjust Gamma 0% and G: in the Adjust menu so
that illuminance (Y) at the center of the screen is
adjusted as follows.
Y = A x 0.005 0.1 [lx]
9. Now, adjust the R and B colors.
10.Place the cursor on [A/D] - [SLIDE SHOW] in the
ADJUST menu and press the [ ] key once to
display a white screen. Then measure the color
coordinates at the center of the screen and take a
note of the setting (here assumed to be x1, y1).
Press the [MENU] key to return.
11.Adjust Gamma, 86%, R: and B: so that the color
coordinates (x, y) at the center of the screen take
on the following values.
x = (x1 - 0.005) 0.003
y = (y1 - 0.010) 0.005

12.Adjust Gamma, 43%, R: and B: so that the color
coordinates (x, y) at the center of the screen take

4 - 6 Color uniformity adjustment
Preparations
1. Perform these adjustments after the white balance
adjustment described in Section 4-5.
2. Make a color uniformity adjustment for the following
three tones.
MIN tone (approx. 11% input signal)
MID tone (approx. 46% input signal)
MAX tone (approx. 71% input signal)
(Note that the MIN tone need not be adjusted when there is
no conspicuous color shading during a black signal input.)
3. Place the cursor on the tone to be adjusted in the
Adjust menu and press the [ ] key. This displays
the Adjust Tone menu at the bottom of the screen.
Select the major adjustment lattice point No. and
color, then adjust them.
4. The major adjustment lattice point numbers (a total
of 17 points) corresponds to the major adjustment
lattice point positions in the diagram on the right.
The color uniformity of the entire screen can be
adjusted by adjusting the white balance for each of
the points starting in order from the low numbers.
5. Adjustment point No. 1 should not be adjusted,
because it controls the brightness of the entire screen.
6. To temporarily turn correction off, place the cursor
on ON in the Adjust Tone menu and press the [ ]
key. To turn it on again, place the cursor on OFF in
the Adjust Tone menu and press the [ ] key.
7. Although this adjustment can also be made using
internal signals, we will here use the [MENU
SELECT] key on the Remote control transmitter to
select the following two signals.
Solid monochrome adjustment color (use G color
adjustment when a color differential meter is
used)
Solid white (use for adjustment other than above)
8. Reset color shading correction before adjustment.
When 3 tones and all colors are to be reset, place
the cursor on [C. UNIF]. in the Adjust menu, press
the [RESET] key and select [DEFAULT].
When only 1 tone is to be reset, place the cursor
on the tone to be reset press the [RESET] key
and select [DEFAULT].
Single tone and monochrome resets cannot be
performed.

Adjustment procedure 1
(when a color differential meter is used)
1. First adjust [MIN] tone [G:].
Unless there is conspicuous black uniformity, there is no
need to adjust. (Go to step 7 if no adjustment is required.)
2. Select adjustment point [No. 2] [G:].
When the background is [G] monochrome, press
the [MENU SELECT] key on the Remote control
transmitter to change to solid white.
3. Adjust the color coordinates of adjustment point
[No. 1] and make a note of them.
Assume that they are x = x1, y = y1.
Note : When the CL-100 color and color difference
meter is used, the [ ](delta) mode is
convenient. When adjustment point [No. 1]
color coordinate has been selected, set the
slide switch on the side to [ ](delta) while
holding down the [F] button on the front panel.
The measurement shown after this displays
the deviation from measurement point 1.
4. Now measure the color coordinates of measure-
ment point [No. 2] and adjust [No. 2] and [G:] so
that the color coordinates are as follows.
y = y1 0.050 (adjust Y only)
Similarly, measure adjustment points [No. 3] to [No.
9] and adjust their color coordinates starting in
order from the small number points.
5. Then adjust [MAX] tone [G].
Select [No. 2] [G:]. If the background is white solid,
press the [MENU SELECT] key on the Remote
control transmitter to change to [G] monochrome.
6. Measure the illuminance of measurement point
[No. 2] and [No. 3]. Temporarily set [No. 2] to
illuminance Y2 and [No. 3] to illuminance Y3 [lx].
7. Adjust the illuminance of measurement point [No.
2] and [No. 3] to their average values. Thus
illuminance Y2' and Y3' of measurement points
[No. 2] and [No. 3] should be the following after
adjustment.
Y2' = Y3' = (Y2 + Y3) 2 10 [lx]
8. Next, measure the illuminance of measurement
point [No. 10] and [No. 11].
Adjust the illuminance of measurement point [No.
10] and [No. 11] to their average values. Thus
illuminance Y10' and Y11' of measurement points
[No. 10] and [No. 11] should be the following after
adjustment.
Y10' = Y11' = (Y10 + Y11) 2 10 [lx]
This completes [G] color adjustments.
9. Then adjust [MAX] tone [R] and [B].
Select [No. 2] [B:] and press the [MENU SELECT]
key on the Remote control transmitter to change to
solid white.
10.Adjust the color coordinates of adjustment point
[No. 1] and make a note of them.
Assume that they are x = x1, y = y1.
11.Now measure the color coordinates of measure-
ment point [No. 2] and adjust [No. 2] [R:] and [B:]
so that the color coordinates are as follows.
x = x1 0.010, y = y1 0.020
Similarly, measure adjustment points [No. 3] to [No.
9] and adjust their color coordinates starting in
order from the small number points.

12.Then measure the color coordinates for adjust-
ment point [No. 10] and adjust [No. 10] [R:] and [B:]
so that the color coordinates are as follows.
x = x1 0.010, y = y1 0.020
Similarly measure adjustment points [No. 11] to
[No. 17] and adjust their color coordinates starting
in order from the small number points.
13.This completes [MAX] tone adjustments.
14.Now make similar adjustments for [MID] tone.
(Note that [G] color adjustment tolerance is 10
[lx].)
Adjustment procedure 2 (visual inspection)
1. First adjust [MIN] tone [G:].
Unless there is conspicuous black shading, there is
no need to adjust. (Go to step 4 if no adjust-ment is
required.)
2. Adjust only [G:] of measurement points [No. 2] to
[No. 17] in number order to minimize color shading.
(Use the deviation range information for each
measurement point given below as reference.)
3. This completes [MIN] tone adjustments.
4. Then adjust [MAX] tone [G] color.
5. Select [No. 2] [G:].
If the background is [G] monochrome, press the
[MENU SELECT] key on the Remote control
transmitter to change to solid white.
6. View measurement point [No. 2] and [No. 3]. Lower
the [G] color intensity only of the color point whose
[G] color is more intense than measure-ment point
[No. 1].
7. View measurement point [No. 10] and [No. 11].
Lower the [G] color intensity only of the color point
whose [G] color is more intense than measure-
ment point [No. 1], and raise the intensity of the
point whose color intensity is lower than measure-
ment point [No. 1].
8. This completes adjustments for [MAX] tone [G].
9. Now adjust the [MAX] tone for colors [R] and [B].
10.View measurement points [No. 2], [No. 3], [No. 10]
and [No. 11]. Adjust the [R] and [B] of each
measurement point so that they have the same
color as measurement point [No. 1].
Adjustment technique :
First, adjust [B:] of the point whose color is to be
adjusted so that it approximates that of [No. 1]. If
[R:] is low at this time, the image will have cyan
cast, in which case [R:] is increased. On the other
hand, if [R:] is excessive, the image will have a
magenta cast, in which case [R:] is decreased.
Overall, a cyan cast makes it easy to see color
shading.
11.Next, view measurement points [No. 4], [No. 5],
[No. 12] and [No. 13] and make similar adjust-
ments.
12.Then adjust measurement points [No. 6], [No. 7],
[No. 8], [No. 9], [No. 14], [No. 15], [No. 16] and [No.
17]. This completes the [MAX] tone adjustment.
13.Make similar [MID] adjustments as described in
steps 4 to 12 above.
