Backgammon
Ein klassisches Taktikspiel für 2 Spieler von 8 - 99 Jahren.
Illustration: Ulrike Fischer
Versionen, z. B. „Jacquet” in Frankreich oder „Plakató” in
Griechenland.
Spielinhalt
15 Wölfe, 15 Schafe, 2 Würfel, 1 mehrteiliger Spielplan,
1 Spielanleitung, 1 Schäferwürfel
Spielziel
„Zuhauses” (Waldbereich Schafe bzw. Waldbereich

gegnerischen „Zuhauses” (Waldbereich Schafe bzw.

7
Tiere in Sicherheit bringen

Punktzahl erreicht.

Backgammon is one of the oldest board games in the
world. First forerunners existed over 5,000 years ago in
Mesopotamia, what has now become the countries Iraq,
Iran and Syria.
Today different countries have different versions, for
example “Jaquet“ in France or “Plakató“ in Greece.
Contents
15 wolves, 15 sheep, 2 dice, 1 game board consisting of
various parts, 1 set of game instructions
Aim of the game
The wolves and sheep have lost themselves in the wood.
Who will be the first to succeed in leading all their ani-
mals out of the wood?
Preparation of the game
One player takes all the wolves, the other all the sheep.
Assemble the game board and place it between you in
the center of the table.
ENGLISH
Arrange the animals on the game board as shown in
the illustration.
The shepherds’ die is only needed in the shepherds’ varia-
tion and is kept in the tin.
How to play
The player who is best at imitating their chosen animal
starts. If you can not agree, then the youngest player
starts by rolling both dice.
Each die allows them to move one of their animals.
The player can decide for themselves, if
they want to move two different animals
or use both dice to move one animal.
The moves however have to be carried out one after the
other.
Important:
You always move your animals from tree to tree. Each
player always moves their animals in the direction of their
home areas (sheep’s wood/ wolves’ wood).
12
ENGLISH
Double luck!
If two identical numbers appear on the dice (= a double),
the player has double luck. They can use each die twice.
Example:
If a double of fives appear on the dice, they may move four
times one (or more) animals five trees further.
Tree rules:
An animal may not move to a tree which is occupied
by two or more animals of the opponent.
One’s turn must be skipped completely if only moves
to a tree with various opponent animals are possible.
If there is just one animal of the opponent on a tree
you can move there and chase the other animal off to
the pond in the center of the game board.
13
ENGLISH
home area wolves
home area sheep
Saving an animal from the pond
As soon as one or more of one’s animals have landed in
the pond, one has to save the soaking wet animal. None
of your other animals can be moved until they have been
saved.
Roll the dice, take the animal off the pond and -counting
from the edge of the game board- place it onto a tree in
the opponents’ area.
An animal can not be saved if the trees that can be rea-
ched are occupied by two or more animals of the oppo-
nent, at which point you can’t move any animal.
Example:
A wolf lies in the pond. Its player rolls a six and a three. The
wolf can be placed with the three on the third tree. The six
can be used to move this wolf again or another one.
14
ENGLISH
15
Get animals to safety
All your own animals have to be brought into their home
area before they can be brought into safety.
An animal is safe, if
it reaches exactly with the dots on a die the edge of
the game board.
If the number on the die is higher than the distance to
the edge, an animal can only be saved if no other
animal is further away from the edge.
Example:
the player of the sheep rolls a six and a one, and can
therefore bring two sheep into safety.
ENGLISH
16
ENGLISH
Example:
he player of the sheep rolls a six and a three.
On the sixth tree there is no sheep. So with the six, a sheep
from the fifth tree can be brought to safety.
With the three on the second die, only the sheep from the
fourth tree can be moved three squares.
Important:
A number of dots doesn’t have to be used to bring
one’s animals to safety, but can also be used to move
the animals within one’s home area.
If only one of the numbers on the dice can be used,
it should be the higher one. The lower one is invalid.
If no move can be made, it is the next players turn.
17
End of the game
The game ends as soon as a player has brought all their
animals into safety thus winning the game.
Duelling variation
Various games are played. The one who gains the
previously determined total score,(for example 5 points)
wins the game.
A game won brings the following score:
• One point,
if the other player has at least one animal brought to
safety at the end of the game.
• Two points,
if the other player has not even got one animal to
safety (called “Gammon“).
• Three points,
if the other player has not got any animal to safety and
at least one of their animals is still in the home area
of the winner (that is the highest victory and is called
“Backgammon“).
Shepherds’ Variation
In this variation you also play according to a previously
determined score (e.g. 16 points). The shepherds’ die indi-
cates during the current round the score for the winner.
The shepherds’ die will be used when a doubling offer is
made and, for the moment, is kept in the tin (= score 1).
ENGLISH
18
Before rolling the dice, each player can ask for a doubling
of the score. The player asking for a doubling takes the
shepherds’ die and puts it with the number 2 on the
game board area of the other player.
They can accept or decline the challenge.
If the other player accepts, they take the shepherds’
die. Only they can then ask for a further doubling
(for example doubling from 2 to 4).
If the other player declines the offer they lose, and
the current round is immediately over. The winner
gets the score set on the shepherds’ die before the
offer of the doubling was made.
Note the scores of each round on a piece of paper. The
player who first reaches the score determined at the
beginning, wins the game.

Backgammon
Contenu
15 loups, 15 moutons, 2 dés, 1 plateau de jeu en
plusieurs parties, 1 règle du jeu, 1 dé du berger
But du jeu
