The Harris SG5300 is an ideal fixed-point, wireless data modem to help monitor and manage remote devices
operating in the 800 MHz and 900 MHz frequency bands. The SG5300 can be mounted indoors or in a
weatherproof enclosure. Utilizing the coverage of the OpenSky network, the SG5300 provides for data
communication to areas that were previously hard or expensive to retrieve data from.

UNPACKING EQUIPMENT
The SG5300 data Modem equipment may be shipped
in separate transit packages. Any associated cabling
and accessories for each unit may also be shipped in
separate containers. Models meeting the Class I,
Division 2 non-incendive ratings include a Serial Port
Protective Cover which must be installed when no
serial cable is connected to the unit.
When unpacking the equipment, check the contents
against the packing list. Contact your Harris
representative and the carrier if any discrepancies are
noted.

Division 2 Non-Incendive Protection
Division 2 Non-Incendive Protection rating is optional for the Harris SG5300-900. When ordered with this
option, the apparatus is suitable for use in hazardous locations as defined by the National Electrical Code (NEC)
as Class I, Division 2, groups A, B, C and D applications. Either the Serial Port Protective Cover or a serial cable
must be installed on the serial port to meet non-incendive ratings. The serial cable or protective cover mounting
screws shall be torqued to a minimum of 3 in-lbs. The RF antenna connector shall be torqued from 15 to 17 in-
lbs.
Always follow all NEC, NFPA and local codes when installing this equipment in hazardous areas.
Knowledgeable personnel, who are familiar with national and local codes, must supervise hazardous area
equipment installations. A readily accessible disconnect device shall be incorporated external to the equipment.
A 1-Amp over-current protection device shall be provided external to the equipment.
