Contents of this guide
This guide gives brief instructions on how to install the drive module in a 600 mm wide
enclosure.
For more detailed instructions, engineering guidelines, technical data and complete safety
instructions, see the hardware manual.
Obey the safety instructions
See figure A on page 55. If you ignore the instructions, injury or death, or damage to the
equipment can occur.
WARNING! Handle the drive module carefully. Open the support legs by pressing
each leg a little down and turning it aside (1, 2).
Do not tilt the drive module. It is heavy and its center of gravity is high. The
module will overturn from a sideways tilt of 5 degrees. Do not leave the module
unattended on a sloping floor.
To prevent the drive module from falling, attach its top lifting lugs with chains to the cabinet
frame before you push the module into the cabinet. Work carefully, preferably with help
from another person. Keep a constant pressure with one foot on the base of the module to
prevent the module from falling on its back.
WARNING! If you are not a qualified electrical professional, do not do installation
or maintenance work. Go through these steps before you begin any installation or
maintenance work.
1. Clearly identify the work location and equipment.
2. Disconnect all possible voltage sources.
Open the main disconnector of the drive enclosure.
Open the disconnector of the supply transformer. The main disconnecting device
in the drive enclosure does not disconnect the voltage from the AC input power
busbars of the drive enclosure.
Make sure that reconnection is not possible. Lock the disconnectors to the open
position and attach a warning notice to them. Follow the correct lock out and tag
out procedures.
Disconnect any external power sources from the control circuits before you touch
the control cables.
After you disconnect the drive, always wait for 5 minutes to let the intermediate
circuit capacitors discharge before you continue.
3. Protect any other energized parts in the work location against contact.
4. Take special precautions when close to bare conductors.

5. Measure that the installation is de-energized.
Use a multimeter with an impedance of at least 1 Mohm.
Make sure that the voltage between the drive module input power terminals
(L1/U1, L2/V1, L3/W1) and the grounding (PE) busbar is close to 0 V.
Make sure that the voltage between the drive module UDC+ and UDC- terminals
and the grounding (PE) busbar is close to 0 V.
6. Install temporary grounding as required by the local regulations.
7. Ask the person in control of the electrical installation work for a permit to work.
Select the power cables
Size the power cables according to local regulations to carry the nominal current given on
the type designation label of your drive.
Ensure the cooling
See the table on page 54 for the losses and the cooling air flow through the drive. The
allowed operating temperature range of the drive without derating is -15 to +40 °C. For
more information, see the hardware manual.
Protect the drive and input power cables
See Fuses (IEC) on page 53 for aR fuses for protection against short-circuit in the input
power cable or drive.
Install the drive module in a cabinet
See figure B on page 55:
Install the punched section to the back of the cabinet frame.
Install the support rails and pedestal guide plate to the cabinet bottom frame.
Install the telescopic insertion/extraction ramp to the pedestal guide plate.

Remove the sheeting from the clear plastic shrouds from both sides.

Install the fastening bracket to the drive module.
Option +B051:
Install the bottom grille to the drive module if there is no bottom plate in the cabinet
and degree of protection of IP20 is needed for the drive module from the bottom
side.
Install the top metallic shroud to the drive module.
Install the back shrouds to the drive module.
See figure E on page 55:
To prevent the drive module from falling, attach its lifting lugs with chains to the cabinet
frame.
Push the drive module into the cabinet along the telescopic insertion/extraction ramp.
Remove the ramp.

Attach the drive module to the pedestal guide plate.
Attach the drive module from its top to the punched section at the cabinet back. Note:
The fastening bracket grounds the drive module to the cabinet frame.
Measure the insulation of the input and motor cables and
the motor
Before you connect the input power cable to the drive, measure its insulation according to
local regulations.
See figure H on page 56. Ground the motor cable shield at the motor end. For minimal
interference, make a 360-degree grounding at the cable entry, or keep the pig tail short.
Measure the insulation of the motor and motor cable when the motor cable is
disconnected from the drive, see figure I on page 56. Measure the insulation resistance
between each phase conductor and the Protective Earth conductor. Use a measuring
voltage of 1000 V DC. The insulation resistance of an ABB motor must be more than
100 Mohm (reference value at 25 °C). For the insulation resistance of other motors, refer
to the manufacturer’s instructions. Note: Moisture inside the motor casing reduces the
insulation resistance. If you suspect moisture, dry the motor and repeat the measurement.
Check the grounding system compatibility
EMC filter compatibility
The drive has an internal EMC filter (+E210) as standard. You can install the drive with the
EMC filter connected to a symmetrically grounded TN-S system, IT system, corner-
grounded delta, mid-point-grounded delta and TT system.
Ground-to-phase varistor compatibility
The drive is equipped with an internal ground-to-phase varistor as standard. You can
install the drive with the ground-to-phase varistor connected to a symmetrically grounded
TN-S system, corner-grounded delta and mid-point-grounded delta system. If you install
the drive to an IT system or a TT system, you need to disconnect the varistor. See section
Ground-to-phase varistor disconnecting instructions – IEC, not North America in the
hardware manual.
WARNING! Do not install the drive with ground-to-phase varistor connected to a
system that the varistor is not suitable for. If you do, the varistor circuit can be
damaged.
Connect the power cables (and install the shrouds for
option +B051)

Install the air baffles
See figure W on page 58 and Generic cabinet planning instructions in the hardware
manual.
4 Screw in and tighten the insulators to the drive module by hand. Install the
T3/W2 connection terminal to the insulators.
WARNING! Do not use longer screws or greater tightening
torque than given in the installation drawing. Doing either can
damage the insulator and cause dangerous voltage to be
present at the module frame.

5 Connect the phase T3/W2 conductors to the T3/W2 terminal. N56
6 Install the T2/V2 connection terminal to the insulators. See the warning in step 4. - -
7 Connect the phase T2/V2 conductors to the T2/V2 connection terminal. - -
8 Install the T1/U2 connection terminal to the insulators. See the warning in step 4. - -
9 Connect the phase T1/U2 conductors to the T1/U2 terminal. - -
10 Option +B051 (if there is no bottom plate in the cabinet and degree of
protection of IP20 is needed):
Carefully step drill sufficiently big holes to the inner clear plastic shrouds for the
motor cables to be connected. Smooth the hole edges. Cut the shroud from the
holes to the edge to make it possible to put the shroud around the cables.
Remove the plastic sheeting from both sides of the shrouds.

11 Option +B051: Put the inner clear plastic shrouds of figure O around the motor
cables.

12 Option +B051: Remove the plastic sheeting from both sides of the output clear
plastic shroud. Install the shroud to the drive module.

hole edges.

Connect the control cables
See figure X on page 58.
1. Ground the outer shields of all external control cables 360 degrees at the cabinet
entry.
2. Ground the pair-cable shields of external control cables to a grounding clamp below
the control unit. Leave the other end of the shields unconnected or ground them
indirectly via a high-frequency capacitor with a few nanofarads, eg, 3.3 nF / 630 V.
3. Connect the conductors to the appropriate terminals of the control unit. See page 8.
4. Wire the option modules if included in the delivery.

Remove the pedestal guide plate from the bottom of the drive module.
Install the support rails and pedestal guide plate to the cabinet bottom frame.
Install the telescopic insertion/extraction ramp to the pedestal guide plate.

(reference value at 25 °C). For the insulation resistance of other motors, refer to the
manufacturer’s instructions. Note: Moisture inside the motor casing reduces the insulation
resistance. If you suspect moisture, dry the motor and repeat the measurement.
Check the grounding system compatibility
EMC filter compatibility
The drive has an internal EMC filter (+E210) as standard. However, for the UL (NEC) drive
types, the filter is disconnected as default. The filter is typically not needed in North
American installations.
Ground-to-phase varistor compatibility
The drive is equipped with an internal ground-to-phase varistor as standard. However, for
the UL (NEC) drive types, the ground-to-phase varistor is disconnected as default.
Connect the power cables (and install the shrouds for
option +B051)

UL and CSA checklist
WARNING! Operation of this drive requires detailed installation and operation
instructions provided in the hardware and software manuals. The manuals are
provided in electric format in the drive package or on the Internet. Keep the
manuals with the drive at all times. Hard copies of the manuals can be ordered through the
manufacturer.
Make sure that the drive type designation label includes the applicable marking.
DANGER - Risk of electric shock. After disconnecting the input power, always wait
for 5 minutes to let the intermediate circuit capacitors discharge before you start
working on the drive, motor or motor cable.
The drive is to be used in a heated, indoor controlled environment. The drive must be
installed in clean air according to the enclosure classification. Cooling air must be
clean, free from corrosive materials and electrically conductive dust.
The maximum surrounding air temperature is 40 °C at rated output current. The output
current is derated for 40…55 °C.
The drive is suitable for use in a circuit capable of delivering not more than 100000 rms
symmetrical amperes, 480 V maximum when protected by the UL fuses given in table
Fuses (UL) on page 53. The ampere rating is based on tests done according to the
appropriate UL standard.
The cables located within the motor circuit must be rated for at least 75 °C in UL-
compliant installations.
The input cable must be protected with fuses. The fuses must provide branch circuit
protection in accordance with the national regulations (National Electrical Code (NEC)
or Canadian Electrical code). Obey also any other applicable local or provincial codes.
Note: Circuit breakers must not be used without fuses in UL installation. For suitable
circuit breakers, see the hardware manual.
WARNING! The opening of the branch-circuit protective device may be an
indication that a fault current has been interrupted. To reduce the risk of fire or
electric shock, current-carrying parts and other components of the device
should be examined and replaced if damaged.
The drive provides motor overload protection. For adjustments, see the firmware
manual.
The drive overvoltage category according to IEC 60664-1 is III.

Inhalt dieser Anleitung
Dies ist eine Kurzanleitung zur Installation des Frequenzumrichtermoduls in einem
600 mm breiten Schaltschrank.
Weitere Informationen, Planungsrichtlinien, technische Daten und die vollständigen
Sicherheitsvorschriften finden Sie im Hardware-Handbuch.
Befolgen Sie die Sicherheitsvorschriften
Siehe Abbildung A auf Seite 55. Die Nichtbeachtung dieser Vorschriften kann zu Verlet-
zungen und tödlichen Unfällen führen oder Schäden an den Geräten verursachen.
WARNUNG! Behandeln und bewegen Sie das Frequenzumrichtermodul vorsich-
tig. Klappen Sie die Stützwinkel auf, indem Sie sie etwas nach unten drücken und
zur Seite drehen (1, 2).
Das Frequenzumrichtermodul darf nicht gekippt werden. Es ist schwer und hat einen
hoch liegenden Schwerpunkt. Das Modul fällt ab einem Kippwinkel von 5 Grad zur Seite
um. Lassen Sie das Modul auf einem Boden mit Gefälle nicht unbeaufsichtigt stehen.
Damit das Frequenzumrichtermodul nicht umfällt, sichern Sie es an den oberen Hebeösen
mit Ketten am Schaltschrankgehäuse bevor Sie das Modul in den Schrank hineinschie-
ben. Arbeiten Sie vorsichtig, am besten zusammen mit einem Helfer. Drücken Sie außer-
dem mit einem Fuß konstant gegen den Sockel des Moduls, um zu verhindern, dass es
nach hinten umfällt.
WARNUNG! Installation und Wartung dürfen nur von qualifiziertem Fachpersonal
durchgeführt werden. Gehen Sie in folgenden Schritten vor, bevor Sie mit den
Installations- und Wartungsarbeiten beginnen.
1. Bestimmen Sie eindeutig den Arbeitsort und die Ausrüstung.
2. Trennen Sie den Frequenzumrichter von allen Spannungsquellen, die möglich sind.
Öffnen Sie den Netztrennschalter des Frequenzumrichterschranks.
Öffnen Sie den Trennschalter des Einspeisetransformators. Der Haupttrennschal-
ter im Frequenzumrichterschrank schaltet die AC-Eingangsstromschienen im
Schrank nicht spannungsfrei.
Stellen Sie sicher, dass ein erneutes Herstellen der Spannungsversorgung nicht
möglich ist. Die Trenneinrichtungen in der Position geöffnet verriegeln und ein
Warnschild daran anbringen. Befolgen Sie die korrekte Vorgehensweise beim Ver-
riegeln und Markieren.
Alle externen Spannungsquellen von den Steuerstromkreisen trennen, bevor Sie
an den Steuerkabeln arbeiten.

Warten Sie nach dem Trennen des Frequenzumrichters von der Spannungsver-
sorgung stets 5 Minuten, bis die Zwischenkreiskondensatoren entladen sind,
bevor Sie die Arbeiten fortsetzen.
3. Sichern Sie alle anderen unter Spannung stehenden Teile am Arbeitsort gegen Berüh-
rung.
4. Besondere Vorsichtsmaßnahmen sind in der Nähe von blanken Leitern erforderlich.
5. Stellen Sie durch Messungen sicher, dass die gesamte Installation spannungsfrei ist.
Benutzen Sie dazu ein Multimessgerät mit einer Impedanz von mindestens 1
MOhm.
Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Spannung zwischen den Einspeiseanschlüssen des
Frequenzumrichtermoduls (L1/U1, L2/V1, L3/W1) und der Erdungsschiene (PE)
annähernd 0 V beträgt.
Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Spannung zwischen den UDC+ und UDC- Klemmen
des Frequenzumrichtermoduls und der Erdungsschiene (PE) annähernd 0 V
beträgt.
6. Installieren Sie für die Dauer der Arbeiten eine Erdung, die nach den örtlichen Vor-
schriften erforderlich ist.
7. Fordern Sie die Arbeitsfreigabe von der Person an, die für die elektrische Installation
verantwortlich ist.
Auswahl der Leistungskabel
Die Leistungskabel müssen nach den örtlichen Vorschriften für den auf dem Typenschild
des Frequenzumrichters angegebenen Nennstrom ausreichend bemessen sein.
Ausreichende Kühlung sicherstellen
Verluste und Kühlluftstrom durch den Frequenzumrichter siehe Tabelle auf Seite 54. Der
zulässige Betriebstemperaturbereich für den Frequenzumrichter ohne Leistungsminde-
rung beträgt -15 bis +40 °C. Weitere Informationen hierzu finden Sie im Hardware-Hand-
buch.
Schutz des Frequenzumrichters und der Einspeisekabel
aR-Sicherungen zum Kurzschlussschutz im Eingangskabel oder dem Frequenzumrichter
siehe Fuses (IEC) auf Seite 53.
Den Frequenzumrichter in einen Schaltschrank einbauen
Siehe Abbildung B auf Seite 55:
Montieren Sie das vorgestanzte Blechprofil an der Rückseite des Schrankgehäuses.
Montieren Sie die Tragschienen und das Sockel-Führungsblech am Bodenrahmen
des Schranks.
Die Teleskoprampe am Sockelführungsblech befestigen.

Entfernen Sie die Schutzfolie der durchsichtigen Kunststoffabdeckungen auf beiden
Seiten.

Montieren Sie die Halterung am Frequenzumrichtermodul.
Option +B051:
Installieren Sie das Gitter an der Unterseite des Frequenzumrichtermoduls, wenn
der Schaltschrank kein Bodenblech hat und für das Frequenzumrichtermodul von
der Unterseite die Schutzart IP20 erfordert.
Installieren Sie die obere Metallabdeckung am Frequenzumrichtermodul.
Installieren Sie die hinteren Abdeckungen am Frequenzumrichtermodul.

Um zu verhindern, dass das Frequenzumrichtermodul umfällt, Ketten an den Hebeö-
sen anbringen und am Schaltschrankrahmen sichern.
Das Frequenzumrichtermodul über die Teleskoprampe in den Schaltschrank schie-
ben.
Demontieren Sie die Rampe.

Befestigen Sie das Frequenzumrichtermodul am Sockel-Führungsblech.
Das Frequenzumrichtermodul von oben in die Aussparung auf der Schrankrückseite
einhängen. Hinweis: Mit den Halterungen wird das Frequenzumrichtermodul über
den Schrankrahmen geerdet.
Die Isolierung der Eingangs- und Motorkabel sowie des
Motors messen
Messen Sie vor dem Anschließen des Netzkabels an den Frequenzumrichter die Isolation
entsprechend den vor Ort geltenden Vorschriften.
Siehe Abbildung H auf Seite 56. Die Motorkabelschirme motorseitig an Erde/PE anschließen.
Um eine geringe Interferenz sicherzustellen, nehmen Sie eine 360-Grad-Erdung am Kabelein-
gang vor oder halten Sie den verdrillten Schirm kurz.
Messen Sie die Isolation des Motors und des Motorkabels, wenn das Motorkabel vom Fre-
quenzumrichter abgeklemmt ist, siehe Abbildung I auf Seite 56. Messen Sie den Isolati-
onswiderstand zwischen den einzelnen Phasenleitern und der Schutzerde (PE).
Verwenden Sie eine Messspannung von 1000 V DC. Der Isolationswiderstand eines ABB
Motors muss mehr als 100 MOhm betragen (Referenzwert bei 25 °C). Die Isolationswider-
stände anderer Motoren entnehmen Sie bitte der Anleitung des Herstellers. Hinweis:
Feuchtigkeit im Motorgehäuse reduziert den Isolationswiderstand. Bei Verdacht auf
Feuchtigkeit trocknen Sie den Motor und wiederholen Sie die Messung.
Die Kompatibilität des Erdungssystems prüfen
Kompatibilität des EMV-Filters
Der Frequenzumrichter ist standardmäßig mit einem internen EMV (+E210) ausgestattet.
Der Frequenzumrichter mit angeschlossenem EMV-Filter kann an ein symmetrisch geer-
detes TN-S-Netz, ein unsymmetrisch geerdetes IT-Netz, ein mittelpunktgeerdetes sowie
ein TT-Netz angeschlossen werden.

Kompatibilität des Erde-Phase-Varistors
Der Frequenzumrichter ist serienmäßig mit einem Erde-Phase-Varistor ausgestattet. Der
Frequenzumrichter kann mit angeschlossenem Erde-Phase-Varistor an ein symmetrisch
geerdetes TN-S-Netz, ein asymmetrisch geerdetes sowie mittelpunktgeerdetes Netz
angeschlossen werden. Wenn der Frequenzumrichter an ein IT- oder ein TT-Netz ange-
schlossen wird, muss der Varistor abgeklemmt werden. Siehe Abschnitt Ground-to-phase
varistor disconnecting instructions – IEC, not North America im Hardware-Handbuch.
WARNUNG! Der Frequenzumrichter mit angeschlossenem Erde-Phase-Varistor
darf nicht an ein Netz angeschlossen werden, für das der Varistor nicht geeignet
ist. Falls dies doch geschieht, kann die Varistorschaltung beschädigt werden.
Anschluss der Leistungskabel (und Montage der
Abdeckungen für Option +B051)

WARNUNG! Es dürfen keine längeren Schrauben oder
höheren Anzugsmomente, als die in der Montagezeichnung
angegebenen, verwendet werden. Andernfalls kann der
Isolator beschädigt werden, und am Modulgehäuse kann eine
gefährliche Spannung anlegen.

5 Die Phasenleiter T3/W2 an Klemme T3/W2 anschließen. N56
6 Auf den Isolatoren die Anschlussklemmen T2/V2 installieren. Beachten Sie die
Warnung in Schritt 4.

Bohren Sie für den Anschluss der Motorkabel vorsichtig ausreichend große
Öffnungen in die inneren Klarsichtabdeckungen . Entgraten Sie die Bohrlöcher.
Schneiden Sie die Abdeckung von den Bohrlöchern zum Rand hin auf, damit
die Abdeckung über die Kabel gesetzt werden kann.
Entfernen Sie die Schutzfolie auf beiden Seiten der Abdeckungen.

11 Option +B051: Installieren Sie die inneren durchsichtigen
Kunststoffabdeckungen gemäß Abbildung O über den Motorkabeln.
