GX-60C AMPLIFIER
OWNER’S MANUAL
Congratulations!
You are now the proud owner of the versatile and powerful Crate GX-60C
amplifier with Stereo Chorus. With two flexible channels, Crate’s patented “Flex
Wave” distortion circuitry, a Stereo Effects Loop and three footswitchable func-
tions, the GX-60C offers you more flexibility and performance than any amplifier
in its class.
Like all Crate products, your GX-60C is Musician Made in the U.S.A., using
only the best components. Extensive testing at the hands (and ears) of skilled
technicians and musicians insures you that this amplifier is the absolute best it
can be.
In order to get the most out of your new amplifier, we strongly urge you to go
over the information contained in this manual before you begin playing.
And thank you
for choosing

FRONT PANEL:
1: INPUT: Connect your guitar here using a shielded
instrument cable.
CHANNELA: Ahigh gain channel giving you sounds from
a slight edge to serious overdrive.
2: GAIN: Sets the amount of compression and distortion
from the amplifier. At far left, the sound will have a thick
compressed quality. As you turn the control to the right the
amount of distortion increases. Use this along with the
Shape and Level controls (#3 and 7) to create a wide vari-
ety of sounds.
3: SHAPE: Rotate the Shape control until you find the
sound you’re looking for. Turning the control towards the
left enhances the mid frequencies; turning it to the right
enhances the low and high frequencies. Controlled by the
Shape Active switch (#4).
4: SHAPE ACTIVE: Boosts the gain of Channel A and
activates the Shape control (#3). A footswitch (see #29,
rear panel) overrides this switch.
5: LOW: Adjusts the low frequency output level: to the left
reduces the low frequency output; to the right increases it.
This control allows a range of 10dB at 80Hz.
6: HIGH:Adjusts the high frequency output level: to the left
reduces the high frequency output, to the right increases it.
This control allows a range of 10dB at 7kHz.
7: LEVEL: Sets the output volume level from Channel A: in
the far-left position there is no output; turning the control to
the right increases the output. Use this control along with
the Gain and Shape controls (#2 & 3) to create a wide vari-
ety of sounds.
8: CHANNEL SELECT: When this switch is pressed in
Channel A is engaged. Channel B is selected when this
switch is out. A footswitch (see #29, rear panel) overrides
this switch. The adjacent LEDs indicate which channel is
selected.
CHANNEL B: A normal gain channel designed to give you
crystal clear sounds.
9: LEVEL: Sets the output volume level from Channel B:
in the far-left position there is no output; turning the control
to the right increases the output level.
10: LOW:Adjusts the low frequency output level: to the left
reduces the low frequency output; to the right increases it.
This control allows a range of 20dB at 100Hz.
11: MID: Adjusts the mid frequency output level: to the left
reduces the midrange output; turning it to the right increas-
es it. This control allows a range of 14dB at 700Hz.
12: HIGH: Adjusts the high frequency output level: to the
left reduces the high frequency output; to the right increas-
es it. This control allows a range of 27dB at 10kHz.
13: REVERB A: Adjust the amount of reverb for Channel
A with this control: in the full-left position the output signal
is “dry” (no reverb); rotating the control to the right increas-
es the amount of effect.
14: REVERB B: Adjust the amount of reverb for Channel
B with this control: in the full-left position the output signal
is “dry” (no reverb); rotating the control to the right increas-
es the amount of effect.
15: INSERT LOOP: Connect an external effects device via
this jack. Use a stereo 1/4” male Y-cord: ring = send, tip =
return, sleeve = ground. See the illustration on the panel to
the right for more information.
16: CHORUS ON/OFF: Turn the Chorus/Expander on and
off with this switch. When the switch is pressed in, the
Chorus/Expander is active. A footswitch (see #28, rear
panel) overrides this switch.
17: CHORUS/EXPANDER: Select between the built-in
stereo chorus or the “expander” circuit with this switch.
When the switch is pressed in, the chorus section is select-
ed. (The yellow LED next to the Depth control, #18, will
glow when the Chorus is selected.) When the switch is out,
the amplifier’s expander circuit is activated, giving the
sound a wide-open, “spatial” effect. In order for either effect
to be active, the Chorus On/Off switch (#16) must be
pressed in.
18: DEPTH: Set the intensity of the chorus effect with this
control: in the far left position there will be almost no cho-
rus; as you rotate the control to the right the amount of
effect increases.
19: RATE: Set the speed of the chorus effect with this con-
trol: to the left for slow, smooth “phasing” sounds, to the
right for faster “vibrato” sounds.
20: POWER LED: Glows when the amplifier is turned on.
21: POWER SWITCH: Turns the amplifier ON in the up
position, off in the down position. The POWER LED (#20)
works with this switch as a visual indicator.

REAR PANEL:
22: AC LINE IN: This heavy-duty, grounded, three-wire
power cord is to be plugged into ONLY a safely-wired,
grounded 120 volt, 60 cycle AC power outlet. DO NOT
attempt to defeat the ground connection of this cable! If
your GX-60C was purchased outside of the United States,
see the unit’s rear panel for its power rating and follow the
above guidelines.
23,24: EXT. SPEAKERS: You may connect the outputs of
the GX-60C to your external speakers using these jacks.
When connecting speakers use a matched pair; that is,
two speakers with the same impedance to insure optimum
performance from the amplifier. Since these are series
connections to the internal speakers there is no chance of
damaging the amplifier with too small of an impedance
load. The left speaker jack (#24) carries the chorus signal
(when the chorus is on) while the right jack (#23) is “dry”
(without the chorus effect).
25: STEREO HEADPHONES: Plug a pair of stereo head-
phones here for private listening. When this jack is used
the internal speakers and the external speaker jacks are
disconnected.
26,27: STEREO EFFECTS LOOP: Connect the Send
jack (#27) to the input of your stereo effects device to send
a post-EQ, pre-chorus, pre-amplified signal for processing.
Connect the outputs of the effects device to the effects
Return jack (#26) to return the processed signal to the
amplifier. These jacks are stereo 1/4” phone jacks, wired
as follows:
Ring = right channel
Tip = left channel
Sleeve = ground
If your effects device has stereo input and output jacks,
use a pair of three-conductor stereo patch cords to con-
nect to it. If the device has separate left and right jacks, use
a pair of one-stereo-male to two-mono-female Y-adapters
to make the connections, as shown to the right.
28: CHORUS FOOTSWITCH: Plug a single footswitch
(such as the Crate CFP-1 or the “mono” plug of the Crate
CFP-3) here to control the Chorus/Expander. The
footswitch overrides the front panel on/off switch (#16);
selection between the Chorus and the Expander is still
controlled by the front panel selector switch (#17).
29: CHANNEL/SHAPE FOOTSWITCH: Plug a dual
footswitch (such as the Crate CFP-2 or the “stereo” plug of
the Crate CFP-3) here to control Channel Selection and
the Shape Active button. The footswitch overrides the front
panel switches (#4 and 8) and is wired as follows:
Ring = Shape
Tip = Channels
Sleeve = ground
Connecting to the Insert jack:
The Insert jack (#15) lets you patch external effects into the
amplifier just prior to its power amp stage. Use Crate’s
CYC6MS stereo-to-mono Y-cord or an adapter such as
Crate’s CA11Y and 2 1/4” mono signal cables to connect
to the effect as shown below.
WARNING: DO NOT attempt to use headphones in the
Speaker jacks! Permanent hearing damage could result!
