by the manufacturer, their customer service department or a similarly
qualified person.
Protect the power cable from contact with hot appliance parts. Never
use the appliance near naked flames, a hotplate or a heated oven.
Do not expose the appliance to rain and never use it in a humid or
wet environment. Ensure that the power cable never gets wet/moist
during operation.
Check the appliance for visible external damage before use. Do not
use an appliance that has been damaged or dropped.
The power cable must be checked for signs of damage at regular
intervals. If the power cable is damaged, the appliance may no
longer be used.
The appliance must be connected to a mains socket with a protective
earth.
Do not allow the appliance to come into contact with moisture such
as rain or water.
Never touch the appliance with wet hands.
Never immerse the appliance or the thermostat in water or any
other liquids! There is a risk of fatal electric shock if residual
liquids come into contact with live components during operation.
Always disconnect the plug from the mains power socket after use,
before cleaning, during assembly or before moving the appliance.
Pull the plug itself, not the mains cable.
4 GBIE SPG 2000 B2
WARNING! RISK OF INJURY!
This appliance may be used by children over the age of 8 and by
persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or by
those without experience and/or knowledge, if they are supervised
or have been instructed in the safe use of the appliance and have
understood the potential risks.
Do not allow children to play with the appliance.
Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by children
unless they are older than 8 years of age and are supervised.
Children younger than eight years of age must be kept away from
the appliance and the power cable.
Never leave children unattended with the packaging material. Keep
children away from the packaging and the appliance. There is a risk
of suffocation!
After use, allow the appliance to cool down completely before
cleaning it! Risk of burns!
If possible, set up the appliance close to a power socket. Make sure
that the mains plug can be reached quickly in case of danger and
that the mains cable does not constitute a tripping hazard.

CAUTION! PROPERTY DAMAGE!
Do not use an external timer switch or a separate remote control
system to operate the appliance.
Never leave the appliance unattended during operation.
Ensure that the appliance, the power cable and the plug do not come
into contact with heat sources such as hotplates or naked flames.
Do not use charcoal or similar fuels to operate the appliance!
To protect the non-stick coating on the griddle, do not use metallic
tools such as knives, forks, etc. If the non-stick coating is damaged,
stop using the appliance.
Operate the appliance only with the original accessories supplied.
Never use the appliance unless it is completely assembled!
The resulting high temperatures mean that liquids can burn and drip
onto the table/the supporting surface if the appliance has not been
completely assembled!
Use the appliance only with the supplied thermostat.
Never operate the appliance without the drip tray. Otherwise, fat and
other hot liquids will drip down from the appliance onto the surface
under the appliance!
Only use the appliance on a heat-resistant surface.

Do not use aluminium foil to cook the food and do not line the
griddle with aluminium foil.
6 GBIE SPG 2000 B2
Assembly and setting up
WARNING! RISK OF FIRE!
Never place the appliance beneath wall
cabinets or adjacent to curtains, wall units
or other flammable objects.
Set up the appliance at least 70 cm from
any flammable materials (e.g. curtains).
Always place the appliance on a heat-resistant
surface.
1) Remove all of the parts from the box and
remove the packaging material and any
protective film.
2) Clean all components as described in the
section "Cleaning and maintenance". Ensure
that all parts are completely dry.
3) Place the appliance on a clean and level
heat-resistant surface.
4) Insert the plug 9 of the thermostat 3 into the
connection socket 2. Make sure that the ther-
mostat 3 is pushed in as far as the stop in the
connection socket 2. Otherwise the appliance
cannot heat up!
Before first use
1) Insert the plug into a mains power socket and
set the temperature control 8 to level 5.
The appliance heats up.
2) Wait for 10 minutes.
3) Then pull out the plug and allow the appliance
to cool down.
NOTE
The first time the appliance heats up, a small
amount of smoke and odour may result from
production-related residues. This is normal
and is completely harmless. Ensure sufficient
ventilation; for example, by opening a
window.
4) Wipe the griddle 1 with a damp cloth after it
has cooled down.
5) Clean the drip tray 5 as described in the
section "Cleaning and maintenance".
6) Make sure that all parts are completely
dry before operating the appliance.
The appliance is now ready for use.
Thermostat settings
The temperature control 8 on the thermostat 3
can be used to set the temperature level.
Level 0 Grill switched off
Level 1 Grill switched on;
low temperature
Level > 1–3 Grill switched on;
medium temperature
Level > 3–5 Grill switched on;
high temperature
Depending on the room temperature, heating up
will start at different positions on the temperature
control 8.
As soon as you set a temperature level, the control
lamp 7 comes on. Once the set temperature has
been reached, the control lamp 7 goes off.
However, the lamp may come on and go off again
at any time. This means that the appliance is main-
taining the temperature and has heated
up again a little.
NOTE
Select the correct temperature level by trial
and error. The lower and medium tempera-
ture levels are better suited for vegetables,
fruits and delicate foods. The higher tempera-
ture levels are better for meat.
GBIE 7
SPG 2000 B2
Operation
WARNING! RISK OF INJURY!
The griddle 1 gets extremely hot during use!
Touch only the temperature control 8 and
the handles 4 at the sides!
The griddle 1 is divided into two sections: a
grooved side and a smooth side.
The ridged side of the griddle 1 is particularly
suitable for red meat and poultry; this gives
the grilled food the typical striped pattern and
requires less fat for cooking.
The smooth side of the griddle 1, on the other
hand, is suitable for frying when the food
requires the greatest possible contact with the
hot surface, e.g. to obtain a particularly crispy
crust. This side is ideal for fish, vegetables,
eggs, bacon.
1) Make sure that the drip tray 5 is positioned
under the griddle 1.
2) Plug the mains plug into a mains socket and
select a temperature level with the temperature
control 8. The control lamp 7 comes on and
the appliance heats up. As soon as the control
lamp 7 goes off, the appliance has heated
up. Place the food on the griddle 1 as required.
Fat and liquids run into the drip tray 5 during
cooking.
3) Check the grilling progress regularly and turn
the food over. When you are satisfied with the
results, take the food off the griddle 1.
ATTENTION! PROPERTY DAMAGE!
Do not use metal implements such as knives,
forks, etc. If the non-stick coating is damaged,
stop using the appliance.
4) If you do not want to grill any more food, turn
the temperature control 8 to "0" and remove
the plug from the mains socket. This is the only
way to switch the appliance off completely.
Cleaning and maintenance
DANGER – ELECTRIC SHOCK!
Before cleaning the appliance, disconnect
the power plug from the mains power socket!
There is a risk of electric shock!
Never immerse the thermostat 3 in water
or other liquids!
WARNING! RISK OF INJURY!
Always allow the appliance to cool down
before cleaning it. Otherwise there is a risk
of burns!
ATTENTION! PROPERTY DAMAGE!
Do not use abrasive or aggressive cleaning
materials. These can damage the surface of
the appliance!
Do not use metal implements such as knives,
forks, etc. If the non-stick coating is damaged,
stop using the appliance.
It is best to clean the appliance as soon as it
has cooled down. This makes food residues
easier to remove.
Dismantle the appliance for cleaning:
Pull the thermostat 3 out of the connection
socket 2.
Pull the drip tray 5 out of the appliance
carefully.
Empty the drip tray 5. Then rinse it in warm
water containing a mild detergent. Rinse the
drip tray 5 afterwards with fresh water and
dry it off.
8 GBIE SPG 2000 B2
NOTE
The drip tray 5 can also be washed
in the dishwasher. We recommend
placing the drip tray 5 in the top
tray of the dishwasher. Ensure that the drip
tray 5 does not become jammed. It can
deform at high temperatures.
After it has cooled down, wipe the griddle 1
with a damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a
non-abrasive sponge with a little washing-up
liquid and then wipe off afterwards with fresh
water. The griddle 1 must be completely dry
before it is used again.
Wipe the appliance and the thermostat 3 with
a damp cloth. If necessary, add a little mild
detergent to the cloth and wipe off afterwards
with fresh water. Dry everything properly.
Then reassemble the appliance.
Storage
Store the cleaned appliance in a clean,
dust-free and dry location.
