INTRODUCTION
The detail sander is ideal for sanding surfaces for painting or nishing. Sanding
pads are attached by hook-and-loop. The dust box reduces airborne dust.
The battery pack and charger are sold separately.

WORK AREA
1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well-lit

PERSONAL SAFETY
WARNING! Wear personal protective equipment approved by the
Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or American National Standards
Institute (ANSI).
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection
for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply with CSA Z94.3-07
or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.
2. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool.
3. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in the
work environment
4. Wear the appropriate rated dust mask or respirator. Wear a NIOSH
approved respirator when working on materials that produce hazardous
fumes, dust or particulate matter.
a. The dust generated while sanding certain wood species and wood
products can be injurious to your health. Always operate your sander
in a well ventilated area and provide for proper dust removal. Dust
collection systems should be used whenever possible. Splinters,
airborne debris and dust can cause irritation, injury, and/or illness.
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid
personal injury or damage to tool.
1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the inuence of drugs,
alcohol or medications.
2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the
moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.
3. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance
enables better control in unexpected situations.

SPECIFIC SAFETY

WARNING! Some surfaces contain materials which can be toxic. When
working on materials that may contain lead, asbestos, copper chromium
arsenate or other toxic materials, extra care should be taken to avoid
inhalation and minimize skin contact.
1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specic
function. Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended
purpose.
2. Never force the tool. Excessive pressure could bend or break the sander,
resulting in damage to the tool, your workpiece or serious personal injury.
If your sander runs smoothly under no load, but does not run smoothly
under load, then excessive pressure is being used.
POWER TOOL PRECAUTIONS
1. Do not use any power tool with a malfunctioning power switch or control.
A power tool that fails to respond to the controls is dangerous and can
cause an injury. A qualied technician must repair and verify the power
tool is operating correctly, before it can be used.
2. Shut the power o and disconnect the detail sander from the power
supply (if possible) before making any adjustments, changing accessories,
cleaning, servicing or when storing. Such preventive safety measures
reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.
3. Never force the tool. Excessive pressure could bend or break the detail
sander, resulting in damage to the tool, your workpiece or serious
personal injury. If the detail sander runs smoothly under no load, but
does not run smoothly under load, then excessive pressure is being used.
4. Check if the detail sander's moving parts are misaligned or binding before
each use. Correct the issue before using the detail sander to avoid an
injury or damage to the tool.
5. The material and the motor housing can get very hot during operation.
Stop work until the tool cools down to a safe temperature.
6. Do not cover the air vents. Proper cooling of the motor is necessary to
ensure normal life of the tool.

7. Do not place the detail sander down until the sanding pad has stopped
moving. The detail sander may catch the surface of work material and
wrench itself free, causing injury to the user or others in the work area.
8. Never point the detail sander towards yourself. It could inict an injury.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING! Do not touch or handle a live tool with any part of your body
that is wet or damp. Wet skin reduces resistance to electrical current,
increasing the danger of a serious or fatal shock.
1. Do not alter any parts of the tool or accessories. All parts and accessories
are designed with built-in safety features that may be compromised if
altered.
2. Protect yourself against electric shocks when working on electrical
equipment. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces. There is an
increased chance of electrical shock if your body is grounded.
3. Do not expose the detail sander to rain, snow, frost or any other damp
or wet conditions. Water entering a tool will increase the risk of electric
shock.
KICKBACK PRECAUTIONS
•The sanding pad may pass over a body part, causing an injury.
•The tool may strike bystanders.
•Kickback can also damage the tool or workpiece.
Kickback can be avoided by taking proper precautions:
1. Maintain a rm grip on the tool and position your body and arms to allow
you to resist a kickback. Kickback will propel the tool in the direction
opposite the sanding pad's direction of rotation. The tool may pull out of
your grasp.
a. Use clamps or a vice to hold down smaller workpieces.
2. Only use a sanding pad designed for the tool.
3. Large panels may sag under their own weight. Place supports under the
panel on both sides of the work area.

VIBRATION PRECAUTIONS
1. This tool vibrates during use. Repeated or long-term exposure to vibration
may cause temporary or permanent physical injury. Take frequent breaks
when using the tool.
2. If you feel any medical symptoms related to vibrations (such as tingling,
numbness, and white or blue ngers), seek medical attention as soon as
possible.
3. Wear suitable gloves to reduce the eects of vibration.
4. DO NOT use this tool before consulting a physician if one of the following
applies:
a. Pregnant
b. Impaired blood circulation to the
hands
c. Past hand injuries
d. Nervous system disorders
e. Diabetes
f. Raynaud's Disease
UNPACKING
WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace
the missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a
malfunction and personal injury.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION
DUST BOX
WARNING! Wear proper personal protective equipment to avoid inhaling
airborne dust particles while using the detail sander.
The sawdust port directs the accumulated sawdust from the tool into a dust
box. Follow the instructions for your dust collection system when opting to use
that method instead of the dust box.
1. Attach the dust box to the detail sander dust
port:
a. Place the dust box cover on the dust box
body, positioning the cover against the
o-ring.
b. Tilt the dust box at a 45° angle to the left,
then push the box's neck into the tool's
dust port until the o-ring is seated.
c. Turn the dust box clockwise to lock into
place.
2. Check the dust box periodically and empty when necessary. Follow
municipal bylaws when disposing of chemically-contaminated dust.

OPERATIONS
SANDING
1. Check that the work surface is free from debris before sanding.
2. Start the detail sander and allow it to attain full speed.
3. Hold the the detail sander rmly and apply it to the workpiece.
4. Move the detail sander slowly using a circular motion. Do not put
additional pressure on the tool. This will slow down the speed of the
pad and reduce sanding eciency. Allow the tool to do the work.
5. Avoid rocking or tilting the detail sander. This can cause deep cuts and
gouges in the work surface.
6. Keep the detail sander in motion. Pausing in one spot will allow the detail
sander to eat into the work, creating an uneven surface.
7. Lift the detail sander while still under power. Once clear of the workpiece,
switch the power o and and allow the sanding pad to slow to a stop
before placing the tool down.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is ecient, easier to
control and will have fewer problems.
2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or
worn components.. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
3. Only use accessories intended for use with this tool. Follow instructions
for changing accessories.
4. Keep the tool handles or gripping surfaces clean and dry.
5. Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates. These carry important
information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for
replacements.

improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.

ATTACHING A SANDING PAD
The sanding pad is specically designed to t the size and shape of the
sander's base. The fuzzy backing on the sanding pad attaches to the base's
hook and loop pad.
Align the pointed tip and rounded edge of the sanding pad with the sander's
pointed tip and rounded edges. Carefully press the fuzzy side of the sandpaper
pad against the hook and loop pad as tightly as possible. The sanding pad
should line up neatly on the base without sticking out.
Remove the pad by grasping an edge and gently pulling at an angle. The pad
will peel away from the sander's base.
Reuse the pads as long as the sanding abrasive endures. Clean the fuzzy
backing with a small brush from time-to-time to retain maximum grip to the
hook and loop pad.
CLEANING
1. Wipe down exterior surfaces with a damp cloth to remove accumulated
dust.
2. Remove the pad from the water and apply more dish soap to the foam.
3. Place the pad in a location to allow it to air dry. Keep the fuzzing backing
face-up.
CLEANING THE CHARGER
1. Only clean with a damp cloth. Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic
parts.
2. To reduce risk of electric shock, unplug the charger from the outlet before
attempting any cleaning. Removing the battery pack will not reduce this
risk.
DISPOSAL
Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.
Contact your local municipality for a list of disposal facilities or by-laws for
electronic devices, batteries, oil or other toxic liquids.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not function
properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualied technician
service the tool.

PRÉCAUTIONS RELATIVES AUX OUTILS ÉLECTRIQUES
1. N’utilisez pas d’outil électrique muni d’un interrupteur d’alimentation ou
d’une commande qui fait défaut. Un outil électrique qui ne réagit pas
aux commandes est dangereux et pourrait provoquer des blessures. Un
technicien qualié doit réparer l’outil électrique et vérier s’il fonctionne
correctement avant que vous ne puissiez l’utiliser.
2. Coupez le courant et débranchez la ponceuse de détail de la source
d’alimentation (si possible) avant d’eectuer des réglages quelconques, de
changer des accessoires, de nettoyer l’outil, de l’entretenir ou de le ranger.
De telles mesures de sécurité préventives réduisent le risque d’une mise
en marche imprévue de l’outil.
3. Ne forcez jamais l'outil. Une pression excessive pourrait casser la
ponceuse de détail, ce qui causerait des dommages de la pièce de travail
ou des blessures graves. Une pression excessive est utilisée si la ponceuse
de détail à main fonctionne sans à-coups à vide mais pas avec une charge.
4. Avant chaque utilisation, vériez que les pièces mobiles de la ponceuse
de détail ne sont pas mal alignées ou ne se coincent pas. Corrigez le
problème avant d’utiliser la ponceuse de détail pour éviter les blessures ou
les dommages à l’outil.
5. Le matériau et le carter du moteur peuvent devenir très chauds durant
le fonctionnement. Cessez de travailler jusqu’à ce que l’outil et le patin
ponceur soient refroidis à une température sécuritaire.
6. Ne recouvrez pas les bouches d’air. Pour assurer à l’outil sa durée utile
normale, le moteur doit toujours être susamment refroidi.
7. Ne déposez pas la ponceuse de détail jusqu’à ce que le patin ponceur ait
complètement cessée de tourner. La ponceuse de détail peut toucher la
surface de la pièce à travailler et se libérer, entraînant ainsi des blessures
à l’utilisateur et aux personnes qui se trouvent dans l’aire de travail.
8. Ne dirigez jamais la ponceuse de détail vers votre personne. Cela pourrait
causer une blessure.

1. Ne modiez aucune partie de l’outil ou des accessoires. Toutes les pièces
et tous les accessoires sont conçus avec des dispositifs de sécurité
intégrés qui seront compromis s’ils sont modiés.
2. Protégez-vous contre les décharges électriques lorsque vous travaillez en
présence d’équipement électrique. Évitez que le corps entre en contact
avec des surfaces mises à la masse. Il y a un risque plus élevé de décharge
électrique si votre corps est mis à la masse.
3. N’exposez pas la ponceuse de détail à la pluie, à la neige, au gel ou à
d’autres conditions humides ou mouillées. De l’eau qui s’inltre dans un
outil augmente le risque de décharge électrique.
PRÉCAUTIONS À PRENDRE POUR ÉVITER L’EFFET DE
REBOND
• Le patin ponceur pourrait passer sur une partie du corps, causant une
blessure grave;
• l’outil pourrait frapper des gens à proximité.
• Un eet de rebond peut également endommager l’outil ou la pièce à
travailler.
L’eet de rebond peut être évité en prenant les précautions appropriées :
1. Maintenez fermement l’outil et placez le corps et les bras de façon à vous
permettre de résister à l’eet de rebond. Un eet de rebond entraînera
l’outil vers les dents dans la direction opposée du patin ponceur dans le
sens opposé à la rotation. Il peut devenir dicile d’agripper l’outil.
a. Utilisez des brides ou un étau pour retenir les petites pièces à
travailler.
2. Utilisez seulement un patin ponceur conçu pour l’outil.
3. Les grands panneaux ont tendance à s’aaisser sous leur propre poids.
Placez des supports sous le panneau des deux côtés de l’aire de travail.
PRÉCAUTIONS RELATIVES AUX VIBRATIONS
1. Cet outil vibre pendant son usage. Une exposition répétitive ou prolongée
aux vibrations peut causer des blessures temporaires ou permanentes.
Prenez souvent des pauses lorsque vous utilisez l’outil.
