Introduction
Dear customer, we thank you for buying the Saeco Incanto
full-automatic espresso machine!
Coee is a natural product and its characteristics may vary according
to origin, blend and roasting. The machine is equipped with a self-
adjustment system that allows it to get the best taste out of your
favorite coee beans. It regulates itself after brewing 10-20 coees.
In this user manual you nd all the information you need to install,
use, maintain and get the best out of your machine. To fully benet
from the

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should
always be followed, including the following:
1 Read all instructions.
2 Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
3 To protect against re, electric shock and injury to persons do not
immerse cord, plugs, or appliance in water or other liquid.
4 Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or
near children.
5 Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to
cool before putting on or taking o parts, and before cleaning the
appliance.
6 Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or
after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any
manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service
facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
7 The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the
appliance manufacturer may result in re, electric shock or injury
to persons.
8 Do not use outdoors.
9 Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot
surfaces.
10 Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a
heated oven.
11 Always attach plug to appliance rst, then plug cord into wall
outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to “o”, then remove plug
from wall outlet.
12 Do not use appliance for other than intended use.

Caution
This appliance is for household use only. Any servicing, other
than cleaning and user maintenance, should be performed by an
authorized service center. Do not immerse machine in water.
To reduce the risk of re or electric shock, do not disassemble the
machine. There are no parts inside the machine serviceable by the
user. Repair should be done by authorized service personnel only.
1 Check voltage to be sure that the voltage indicated on the
nameplate corresponds with your voltage.
2 Never use warm or hot water to ll the water tank. Use cold
water only.
3 Keep your hands and the cord away from hot parts of the
appliance during operation.
4 Never clean with scrubbing powders or harsh cleaners. Simply
use a soft cloth dampened with water.
5 For optimal taste of your coee, use puried or bottled water.
Periodic descaling is still recommended every 2-3 months.
6 Do not use caramelized or avored coee beans.
Instructions for the power supply cord
- A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord)
is to be provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming
entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
- Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are
available and may used if care is exercised in their use.
- If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is
used.
1 The marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply
cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the
electrical rating of the appliance.
2 If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord
should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord, and

IMPORTANT
Read and follow the safety instructions carefully and only use
the machine as described in this user manual to avoid accidental
injury or damage due to improper use of the machine. Keep this
user manual for future reference.
CAUTION
- As water is a foodstu, the water in the water tank must be used
up within 1 to 2 days.
- If you are not going to use your coee machine for a prolonged
period (e.g. a holiday), we recommend that you discard any
water left inside the tank. Before you use the coee machine
again, clean the water tank and perform a manual rinsing cycle.
- Do not put any of the detachable parts of the machine in the
dishwasher, except for the milk carafe.
- The machine is for household use only. It is not intended for use
in environments such as canteens, sta kitchen of shops, oces,
farms or other work environments.
- Always put the machine on a at and stable surface.
- Do not place the machine on hot surfaces, directly next to a hot
oven, heater or similar source of heat.
- Only put roasted coee beans into the coee bean hopper.
If ground coee, instant coee, raw coee beans or any other
substance is put in the coee bean hopper, it may damage the
machine.
- Let the machine cool down before inserting or removing any parts.
- Never use warm or hot water to ll the water tank. Use cold
non-sparkling drinking water.
- Never clean with scrubbing powders or harsh cleaners. Simply
use a soft cloth dampened with water.
- Descale the machine regularly. The machine indicates when
descaling is needed. If you do not clean and descale the
machine, you run the risk that the machine stops working and
that your guarantee becomes invalid.
- Do not keep the machine at temperatures below 32°F. Water left
in the heating system may freeze and cause damage.
- Do not leave water in the tank when the machine is not used
over a long period of time. The water can get contaminated. Use
fresh water every time you use the machine.
WARNING
- Check if the voltage indicated on the machine corresponds to the
local voltage before you connect the machine
- Connect the machine to a grounded wall outlet.
- Do not let the power supply cord hang over the edge of a table
or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
- Never immerse the machine, power plug or power supply cord in
water (danger of electrical shock).
- Do not pour liquids on the power supply cord connector.
- Never direct the hot water jet towards body parts: danger of burns.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles and knobs.
- Remove the power plug from the wall outlet:
- If a malfunction occurs.
- If the machine will not be used for a long time.
- Before cleaning the machine.
- Pull on the power plug, not on the power supply cord. Do not
touch the power plug with wet hands.
- Do not use the machine if the power plug, the power supply cord
or the machine itself is damaged.
- Do not make any modications to the machine or its power
supply cord. Only have repairs carried out by a service center
authorized by Philips to avoid a hazard.
- The machine should not be used by children younger than
8 years old.
- This machine can be used by children aged from 8 years and
above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have
been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the
machine in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
Children shall not play with the machine. Cleaning and user
maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are
8 years and above and supervised.
- Keep the appliance and its power supply cord out of reach of
children aged less than 8 years.
- Do not spill water on the power plug.
- Only use the machine as described in the user manual to avoid
potential injury due to misuse.
- Never insert ngers or other objects into the coee grinder.

The user interface
Use these buttons to navigate through the menus:
ESPRESSO button = ESC button: press this button to return to
the main menu.
AROMA STRENGTH button = OK button: press this button to select,
conrm or stop a function.
STEAM button = UP button: press this button to scroll up through
the display menu.
MENU button = DOWN button: press this button to scroll down
through the display menu.
First installation
This machine has been tested with coee. Although it has been
carefully cleaned, there may be some coee residues left. We
guarantee, however, that the machine is absolutely new. Like with
most full-automatic machines, you rst need to brew some coees
to enable the machine to complete its self-adjustment and get the
best tasting coee.
1 Remove all packaging material from the machine.
2 Place the machine on a table or counter away from the faucet,
the sink and heat sources.
Note: Leave at least 15 cm of free space above, behind and on
both sides of the machine.

3 Fill the water tank with fresh water to the MAX level indication.
4 Open the lid of the bean hopper. Fill the bean hopper with coee
beans and close the lid.
Note: Do not overll the bean hopper to avoid damage to
the grinder.
Caution: Only use espresso beans. Never use ground coee,
unroasted coee beans or caramelized coee beans, as this
may cause damage to the machine.
5 Insert the power plug into a wall outlet (1) and insert the small
plug into the socket located on the back of the machine (2).
6 Set the main switch to the ON position to turn on the machine.
The standby button ashes.
7 Press the standby button to turn on the machine.

- The display shows the circuit priming icon to indicate that
you have to prime the circuit.
8 Place a container under the classic milk frother. Press the OK
button to start the water circuit priming cycle.The machine starts
dispensing hot water.The display shows the priming icon. The
progress bar shows the progress of the priming cycle.
9 The machine heats up and the display shows the temperature
icon.
10 Empty the container and place it under the coee dispensing
spout.
11 The machine starts rinsing water through the coee dispensing
spout. The display shows the rinsing icon and a progress bar.
Note: Do not interrupt the rinsing cycle.
The machine is now ready for use.
Manual rinsing cycle
During the manual rinsing cycle, fresh water ows through the water
and coee brewing circuit. This takes a few minutes.
Hot water circuit rinsing
1 Place a container under the classic milk frother.
2 Press the HOT WATER button.
- The machine starts dispensing hot water.
Note: To interrupt the rinsing cycle, press the OK button.
3 When the machine has dispensed 2 cups of hot water (0.5 l),
press the OK button to stop the hot water dispensing. Repeat
steps 1 to 3 twice.

Coee brewing circuit rinsing
1 Place a container under the coee dispensing spout.
2 Press the AROMA STRENGTH button and select the pre-ground
coee brewing function.
Note: Do not add pre-ground coee in the pre-ground coee
compartment.
3 Press the ESPRESSO LUNGO button.
- The machine starts dispensing water from the coee
dispensing spout.
4 Wait until the machine stops dispensing water and empty the
container.
5 Repeat steps 1 to 4 twice.
6 When the machine has returned to the main menu, empty the
container. The machine is ready for use.
AquaClean lter
The AquaClean lter is designed to reduce limescale deposits in
your coee machine and provide ltered water to preserve the
aroma and avor of each cup of coee. If you use a series of 8
AquaClean lters as indicated in this user manual, you don't have to
descale your machine for up to 5000 cups.
Note: Your machine has to be completely limescale-free before
you start to use the AquaClean lter. If you did not activate the lter
during rst installation, you need to descale the machine before
you activate the lter.
Activating the AquaClean lter
Note: Always conrm activation of the AquaClean lter in the
machine menu as described below. You also need to do this after
replacing the AquaClean lter. By activating the AquaClean lter
in the machine menu, the machine monitors the number of lters
used. When the lter has been replaced 8 times, the machine
reminds you to descale it.
1 For instructions on how to place the AquaClean lter in the water
tank, see the separate quick start guide.
Note: Shake the AquaClean lter for about 5 seconds, immerse it
upside down in a jug with cold water and wait until no more air
bubbles come out.
2 Press the MENU button, select MENU and press the OK button
to conrm. Scroll to AQUACLEAN FILTER. Press the OK button
to conrm.
- The display shows the number of AquaClean lters that have
been installed previously from 0 to 8 lters.

3 Select ON on the display, press the OK button to conrm.
4 The display automatically updates the number of lters used.
- Then the 'machine ready' screen appears with the AquaClean
100% icon to indicate that the lter has been installed.
5 Dispense 2 cups of hot water (0.5 l) to complete the activation.
Discard this water.
Replacing the AquaClean lter
Note: Replace the AquaClean lter as soon as the capacity has
dropped to 0% and the lter icon ashes quickly. Replace the
AquaClean lter at least every 3 months, even if the machine has
not yet indicated that replacement is required.
Tip: We advise you to buy a new lter when the capacity has
dropped to 10% and the lter icon starts ashing slowly. This
ensures that you can replace the lter when the capacity has
dropped to 0%.
1 Take out the AquaClean lter and replace it by a new AquaClean
lter (also see the separate quick start guide).
2 Press the MENU button, scroll to AQUACLEAN FILTER and press
the OK button to conrm.
- The display asks if you want to activate a new lter.
3 Press the OK button to conrm.
- The display automatically updates the number of lters used.
4 Dispense 2 cups of hot water (0.5 l) to complete the activation.
Discard this water.
Replacing the AquaClean lter after 8 lters were used
1 When the lter icon starts ashing on the display, press the
MENU button, scroll to AQUACLEAN FILTER and press the OK
button to conrm.

- The display tells you that you need to descale the machine
before activating the new lter.
2 Press the OK button to start the descaling procedure.
- Press the escape button several times to leave the lter
menu if you do not want to descale right away.
3 At the end of the descaling procedure, the display asks you if
you want to install the AquaClean lter.
- Follow the steps in 'Replacing the AquaClean lter'.
Measuring the water hardness
To be able to adjust the machine settings to the water in your
region, please measure the water hardness with the water hardness
strip supplied.
1 Immerse the water hardness test strip (supplied with the
machine) in tap water for 1 second.
2 Remove the water hardness strip and and wait for 1 minute.
3 Check how many squares have changed into the red colour and
check the water hardness in below table.

1 To set the water hardness, press the MENU button, select menu
and scroll to select WATER HARDNESS.
2 Press the OK button and select the water hardness in your area.
3 Press the OK button to conrm.
4 Press the ESC button to return to the main menu.

Brewing coee
Adjusting the coee dispensing spout
The machine can be used to dispense dierent coee types in
cups or glasses of dierent sizes. To adjust the height of the coee
dispensing spout to the size of the cup or glass, slide the spout up
or down.

Brewing coee with beans
Brewing 1 cup of coee
1 Place a cup under the coee dispensing spout.
2 Press the ESPRESSO or ESPRESSO LUNGO button to brew
the selected coee.
- Coee starts pouring from the coee dispensing spout.
Note: If you want to stop the brewing process before the machine has
nished dispensing the preset coee volume, press the OK button.
Brewing 2 cups of coee
1 Place two cups under the coee dispensing spout.
2 You can brew two cups of espresso or espresso lungo
simultaneously. Press the button of the desired beverage twice.
The machine automatically carries out two grinding cycles in
sequence.
Brewing coee with pre-ground coee
When you brew coee with pre-ground coee, use the measuring
scoop in the multifunctional tool supplied to put the correct dose in
the pre-ground coee compartment. If you add more pre-ground
coee, the excess coee will end up in the coee grounds drawer.
1 Open the lid of the pre-ground coee compartment.
2 Pour one measuring scoop of pre-ground coee into the
compartment.
Caution: Do not put any other substance than pre-ground
coee in the pre-ground coee compartment, as this may
damage the machine.
3 Close the lid of the pre-ground coee compartment.
4 Place a cup under the coee dispensing spout.
5 Press the AROMA STRENGTH button and select pre-ground
coee
- The machine automatically starts brewing the selected
beverage.
Note: You can only brew one coee beverage at a time with
pre-ground coee.
Frothing milk
Warning: Danger of scalding! Dispensing may be preceded by
small jets of hot water. Use the appropriate protective handle only.
Note: Use cold milk (at a temperature of approximately 5°C/41°F)
with a protein content of at least 3% to ensure an optimal frothing
result. You can use whole milk or semi-skimmed milk. It is also
possible to use skimmed milk, soy milk and lactose-free milk.

Note: We advise you to rinse the water circuit before use. Press the
STEAM button to dispense steam for a few seconds.
1 Fill 1/3 of a jug with cold milk.
2 Immerse the classic milk frother in milk. Press the STEAM button.
3 Froth the milk by gently swirling the jug and moving it up and
down.
4 Press the OK button to stop frothing.
Hot water
Warning: Danger of scalding! Dispensing may be preceded by
small jets of hot water. Use the appropriate protective handle only.
1 Place a jug under the classic milk frother.
2 Press the HOT WATER button. Hot water dispensing starts
automatically.
3 Press the OK button to stop hot water dispensing.

Adjusting coee length
You can adjust the quantity of beverage brewed according to your
taste and to the size of the cups.
1 To adjust the length of espresso, press and hold the ESPRESSO
button until the display shows the MEMO icon.
- The machine enters the programming phase and starts to
brew the selected beverage.
2 Press the OK button when the cup contains the desired amount
of espresso.
- The tick on the display shows that the button is programmed:
every time it is pressed, the machine will brew espresso in
the amount set.To set the length of espresso lungo, follow
the same procedure: press and hold the button of the
beverage and press the OK button when the desired amount
is in the cup.
Adjusting coee strength
To change the coee strength, press the AROMA STRENGTH
button. Each time you press the AROMA STRENGTH button, the
aroma strength changes by one degree. The display shows the
chosen strength, which will only be saved when brewing a coee.
1 Very mild
2 Mild
3 Regular
4 Strong
5 Very strong
Note: The machine will automatically dispense the correct quantity
of coee for each coee strength.
GROUND COFFEE is the last option in the coee strength menu.
Select this option to brew coee with ground coee. Use the
measuring scoop integrated in the multifunctional tool supplied to
dose the correct quantity of ground coee.
Note: The machine returns to the main screen and saves the
chosen aroma strength when you brew a coee.
