Getting Started
Connect the power supply connector to the connector at the base of the lift chair. Connect
the 120 volt power cord to the power supply. Plug the power supply directly into a wall outlet.
Platinum Luxury-Lift®with Adjustable Headrest and Lumbar Operation
The 1PH offers multiple modes of operation. The large, round LIFT and RECLINE button on the front
of the hand wand AND the toggle on the back of the hand wand provide coordinated movements.
The LIFT and RECLINE button and back toggle will operate all functions of the chair in one fluid
movement from sitting, reclining and legrest extension, back to the upright position and standing.
Individual movement of the back and legrest can be achieved by pressing the BACK button to recline
and return the back of the unit, and by pressing the LEGREST button to extend and return the legrest.
Customized comfort is achieved by pressing the HEADREST button to set the angle of the headrest tilt
and the LUMBAR button to set the intensity of the lumbar.
To reduce the risk of serious injury:
The 1PL, 1PM and 1PH lift chairs are intended for a single occupant, not exceeding 350
pounds. Do not operate the chair with more than one occupant in or on any part of the chair.
Sit down in the unit slowly. To avoid tip over, do not throw your weight against the back
of the unit. Move the unit into or out of the reclining position slowly, making sure that
no children or pets are in close proximity.
To safely exit the unit and prevent a tripping hazard, bring the back upright and close
the legrest.
Unit is designed to ease exit from the chair. Take care to not slip out of chair when
chair is in motion.
Remove hand wand when not in use, and store out of reach of children.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of product damage:
After 2 minutes of continuous operation of the 4LP, 1PL, 1PM, 1PH and 1HM chairs,
allow the lift and recline features to rest for 18 minutes.
NOTICE
To recline the chair:
As with the lift feature, there are multiple modes of operation to recline the chair. The back and
legrest recline movements are both synchronous and independent. The back and legrest recline
are programmed to move together using the front, large round LIFT and RECLINE button at the
top of the hand wand, or the toggle on the back of the hand wand. The back and legrest recline
are programmed to move independently using the front, oblong BACK and LEGREST buttons. The
independent operation allows you to recline the back without raising the legrest, raise the legrest
without reclining the back, or make individual adjustments to the back and legrest recline, which
are outside the synchronous movement.
1. With the chair in the seated position, to recline the back and raise the legrest at the same
time, press and hold the front, large round RECLINE button, or press the back toggle up and
hold. To recline only the back or raise only the legrest, press and hold down on the right side
of the appropriate front, oblong BACK or LEGREST button. Release the button or toggle when
you are in a comfortable position.
2. Make adjustments to the back and legrest recline as preferred.
3. To return the chair to the upright, seated (home) position, press and hold down on the front,
large round LIFT button, or press and hold the back toggle down. Release the button or toggle
when you reach the upright, seated (home) position. There is a two second delay that occurs
when the chair arrives at its seated, home position; the chair starts the lift function after the
delay when the front, large round button or back toggle is pressed and held. Additionally, you
may press and hold down on left side of the front, oblong BACK button, followed by the
LEGREST button, releasing the button when the movement reaches its end of travel and stops.
To stand up from the chair:
There are multiple modes of operation for the lift feature. Both the front, large round LIFT button
at the top and the back toggle provide a coordinated movement of the lift function. The back must
be fully upright and the legrest fully closed for the lift feature to function.
1. Firmly position your feet on the floor to maintain balance and prevent sliding or falling. Press
down on the front LIFT button and hold, or press the back toggle down and hold, to raise the
chair to the standing position.
2. Release the button or toggle when the chair reaches a height that enables you to comfortably
stand. Carefully exit the chair.
3. Return the chair to the seated (home) position if you will be away from the chair for an
extended period of time. Press down on the front RECLINE button and hold, or press the back
toggle up and hold to lower the chair. Release the button or toggle when the chair is in its
seated (home) position.
NOTE: The system includes a built-in two second delay that occurs when the chair arrives at its
seated, home position. The chair starts the reclining function immediately following the two second delay.
To sit down in the chair:
1. Stand beside the chair and press down on the front LIFT button and hold, or press the back
toggle down and hold. Release the button or toggle when the chair reaches a comfortable height
to sit against, depending on your personal needs and preference.
2. Step back into the chair and sit in the center of the seat while keeping your feet firmly
on the floor.
3. Press down on the front RECLINE button and hold, or press the back toggle up and hold to lower
the chair. Release the button or toggle when the chair reaches the seated, home position. There
is a two second delay that occurs when the chair arrives at its seated, home position; the chair
starts the recline function after the delay.

Additional Operating Features
Power Supply Over-Current Protection
The Platinum series lift chairs are equipped with over-current protection. This feature prevents damage
to the motors and electronics if there is an overload, short circuit or ground fault. Should the system
detect an over-current, the system shuts down and the chair stops functioning.
If the over-current protection is activated, stop pressing the button or toggle in use. The system should
reset automatically. If you believe the chair is not being overloaded, or experiencing a short circuit or
ground fault, you may restart the function of the chair after the button or toggle has been released.
Should the over-current protection trip repeatedly, refer to the Troubleshooting section in this manual.
Additionally, the power supply includes a green LED status light to indicate power is being supplied
to the system. If the light is not illuminated, no power is being supplied to the system. Refer to the
Troubleshooting section in this manual if the power supply is plugged in, but the green light is
not illuminated.
To reduce the risk of serious injury:
Do not attempt to disassemble or service the pump or motor; no serviceable parts are
inside. Contact your La-Z-Boy®dealer for service.
Check the condition of the power supplies, electrical cords, plugs, and connectors
monthly. Keep the power supplies and electrical cords away from heat sources.
Never operate the unit with a damaged power supply, electrical cord, plug, or connector.
Contact your La-Z-Boy®dealer for service.
The 1PL, 1PM and 1PH lift chairs are intended for a single occupant, not exceeding 350
pounds. Do not operate the chair with more than one occupant in or on any part of the chair.
WARNING
Troubleshooting for Legrest Operation
If the legrest stops moving while closing, and all other functionality of the lift chair is operating,
the legrest may have encountered an obstruction.
1. Check to make sure there are no obstructions. Lift and hold the legrest up, look for obstructions
and remove them.
2. The legrest uses spring tension to close, and will close quickly when the obstruction is
removed and the legrest is released. Release the legrest slowly to prevent it from slamming shut.
If there are no obstructions and the legrest still does not close properly, contact your La-Z-Boy®
dealer for service.
Troubleshooting for Lift and Recline Operation
If the lift or recline features do not work, check the following:
1. Make sure the 120 volt power cord is plugged into an electrical outlet.
2. Check the power supply to make sure the green LED power indicator light is on.
3. Make sure the electrical outlet is working. For example, make sure there are no blown
fuses or tripped circuit breakers.
4. Make sure all the connections are secure; refer to the Assembly Instructions.
5. Make sure the electrical cords are not crimped or pinched. Make sure the electric
cord or plug is not damaged.
6. Make sure the operating capacity has not been exceeded and there is only one
occupant in the chair; refer to the Operating Instructions.

WARNING
5. Unlock the back brackets and remove the back; there is one back bracket on each side of the back.
Insert a slotted screwdriver between the back and one of the chair arms and locate the
locking lever on the back bracket (FIGURE 4).
Carefully pry the back bracket locking lever up to about a 90 degree angle, until unlocked (FIGURE 4).
Repeat these steps for the other back bracket. Once both back brackets are unlocked, the
back is free for removal.
For a 1PL or 1PM chair, lift up on the back and remove it from the body. For a 1PH chair, lift up on
the back only high enough to rotate the back forward, toward the front of the chair, and lay it on
the top arms, taking care not to stretch or damage the electrical cables or connections between
the back and the body.
6. For a 1PH chair with adjustable headrest and lumbar features:
- Disconnect the adjustable headrest feature. Locate the connection with two blue connectors
on the left side (as sitting); one blue 6-pin connector routes from the back and the other
from the body. Open the locking cover and pull out on the connectors to disconnect the
adjustable headrest (FIGURE 5).

on the right side (as sitting); one 3-pin connector routes from the back and the other from
the body. Open the locking cover and pull out on the connectors to disconnect the
adjustable headrest (FIGURE 5).
7. Reverse these steps to reinstall the back. For easier installation, lay the back across the chair
arms, lift the back at a slight angle to align the back brackets to the body brackets and rotate
the back up, lowering it onto the body (FIGURE 6). Verify the back and body brackets are engaged
and lock both back brackets by pushing the locking lever down, refer to Important note below.
To reduce the risk of injury:
Do not operate the unit until the back is installed and locked.
WARNING
IMPORTANT:
Always make sure the back is properly installed with both sets of back and body brackets
engaged following back removal and reinstallation. To do this, stand behind the chair and
twist the back from side to side. If one or both sides move out of position, the back
brackets are not engaged with the body brackets (FIGURE 7). Remove the back and reinstall.
