3.1.4. Steam will escape, so don’t put it near
curtains, under shelves or cupboards, or near
anything that might be damaged by the escaping
steam.
3.1.5. Have dinner plates or a tray handy to put
the baskets on afterwards.
3.2. Assembly of the food baskets:
3.2.1. The basket handles are marked with one
(Bottom), two (Middle) and three (Top) markings.
3.2.2. Put the diffuser on top of the reservoir.
3.2.3. Place the bottom basket (basket 1) on top
of the diffuser.
3.2.4. Place the middle basket (basket 2) on top
of the bottom one.
3.2.5. Place the top basket (basket 1) on top of
the middle one.
3.2.6 Place the lid on top of basket 3.
3.3. Use and care:
3.3.1. Place the diffuser on top of the steamer.
3.3.2. The diffuser directs the steam through the
steam holes in the bottom basket. It also prevents
the element and the steamer being overwhelmed
by juices from the cooking foods.
3.3.3. Before fitting the baskets, fill the water
directly into the water reservoir to the max line.
This will allow for 60 minutes of steaming, which
is enough time for steaming most foods.
3.3.4. Don’t add anything to the water. Add
seasoning, marinades, etc to the food, NOT the
water. They won’t circulate, they’ll concentrate
in the steamer, possibly damaging the internal
surfaces and the element.
3.3.5. To allow the steam to circulate, pack the
food loosely in the baskets. Whenever possible,
use single layers of food. Leave spaces between
the pieces. When layering food in the basket,
leave spaces between the pieces in each layer to
let the steam circulate through the layers.
3.3.6. For uniform cooking; try to cut all pieces
of food in a basket to roughly the same size; put
larger pieces, or food with longer cooking times
nearest the reservoir and put smaller pieces, or
food with short cooking times, furthest from it.
3.3.7. Don’t worry too much about overcooking
- steaming is a relatively gently cooking method
and a few minutes extra generally won’t matter.
3.3.8. Juices from the upper baskets will drip into
the baskets below. Don’t put delicate flavours
below strong ones, or vegetables below greasy
foods.
3.3.9. Put the lid on top of the topmost basket.
3.3.10. Don’t try to steam without the lid in place.
The food won’t cook, the water won’t last and
you will fill the kitchen with steam.
3.3.11. Plug the steamer into the power socket
and switch the socket on.
3.3.12. Turn the timer dial to the desired steam-
ing time. The red indicator light will come on to
indicate the steaming process has begun. The
indicator light will turn off once the timer has run
out.
3.3.13. When cooking rice, fill the rice bowl with
water in addition to the water in the reservoir. The
amount of water added to the rice bowl should
be roughly one and a quarter times the volume
of the rice.
3.3.14. Place the rice bowl in the topmost basket
and allow it to steam.
NB Do not place the rice bowl in any other basket
other than the topmost basket. Juices from other
foods will alter the flavour of the rice and the ad-
ditional liquid may make the rice mushy.
3.4 Once you have finished using the appli-
ance:
3.4.1. Allow appliance to cool down.
3.4.2. Unplug the appliance from the mains
power supply.
3.4.3. Clean the appliance as described in the
cleaning section.
4. Cleaning:
4.1. Disconnect the appliance from the mains
power supply and allow it to cool completely
before undertaking any cleaning task.
4.2. Do not clean clear plastic bowls and baskets
with the abrasive side of a sponge or pad.
4.3 Empty the water basin and change the water
after each use.
4.4. Do not immerse the base in water. Fill the
water basin with warm soapy water and wipe
with a cloth. Rinse thoroughly.
4.5. Wipe the base with a damp cloth.
4.6. Clean the appliance on a regular basis.
4.7. Clean the outer parts of the appliance with a
damp cloth with a few drops of washing-up liquid
