1 Safety Information
Prior to using for the first time, please
note that the appliance may only be
used with the voltage and type of cur-
rent that is stated on the rating plate.
Only connect the appliance to a socket
that has been installed in accordance
with regulations.
Never put the appliance on hot sur-
faces or near naked flames.
Always ensure that the mains lead can-
not come into contact with items that
are hot or have sharp edges.
Do not kink the mains lead or wrap it
around the appliance. Always use the
cord storage that is an integral part of
the appliance.
Do not push hard items against the
blade when it is rotating and keep your
hands well away from the blade. Seri-
ous injury can be caused!
Plastic parts must not be placed on or
close to radiators.
The Universal Slicer is a household
appliance and therefore not suitable
for commercial use.
The Universal Slicer may only be used
once it has been positioned in accord-
ance with instructions.
Never slice frozen food.
(The appliance could be damaged). Use
the appliance only for slicing ordinary
household foods; do not use it for any
other purpose. Do not slice frozen
foods, bones, foods with large stones,
roasting joints in nets, or foods that
are still in their packaging!
Always use the food carriage when
slicing (General View/C). The food car-
riage and holder (H) should only be
removed when the shape and size of
the food to be sliced (e.g., bread) do
not permit their use.
Switch the appliance off at the latest
after 5 minutes of uninterrupted use,
as the Universal Slicer is designed to be
operated for a maximum of 5 minutes.
Return the stop plate (General View/B)
to its starting position (0) after each
use to avoid its being damaged by the
circular blade (G).
Before cleaning any parts and before
changing the blade return the stop
plate to the starting position (0) and
remove the mains plug.
Never immerse the appliance in water
or bring it into contact with water in
any way. Note the information for
cleaning!
Warning:
after the appliance is switched off,
the circular blade continues to
rotate for a short time.

Children do not perceive the dangers
that can arise when using electrical
appliances and slicers. For this reason
never allow children to “play” with or
use this appliance without supervision.
Never leave the appliance running
when it is unattended.
Check the mains cord from time to
time for damage. If any damage is
present have the mains cord changed
immediately.
In the event that a repair becomes nec-
essary, including replacing the mains
lead, the appliance must be returned
to the specialist dealer where it was
bought or to an authorised AEG cus-
tomer service centre. Repairs to electri-
cal appliances may only be carried out
by qualified specialists. Repairs carried
out by inexperienced persons may
cause serious injury to the user. No
responsibility can be accepted if the
appliance is used incorrectly or for the
wrong purposes.
Technical Data
Power consumption: 110 W
Mains voltage: 230 V
;
This appliance complies with the fol-
lowing EU Directives:
73/23/EEC dated 19.2.1973 “Low
Voltage Directive”, including
Amending Directive 93/68/EEC.
89/336/EEC dated 3.5.1989 “EMC
Directive”, including Amending
Directive 92/31/EEC.
89/109/EEC Foodstuffs Directive.
Positioning the Appliance
The Universal Slicer should be posi-
tioned on a level, clean and dry work
surface where the non-slip rubber feet
will ensure that the appliance is secure
and does not move. We recommend
wiping all parts with a slightly damp
cloth and then drying before using for
the first time.
Prior to Using
Unwind the required length of con-
necting lead (L) from the cord storage
(K) under the appliance (Fig. 1).
Check that the appliance is stable and
connect to the mains using the mains
plug.
Applying firm pressure to the rear slid-
ing surface, push the food carriage (C)
into the guiding groove on the appli-
ance (Fig. 2).
Slide the holder (H) onto the handle of
the food carriage (Fig. 3).
Set the required cut thickness. To do
this, turn the slice thickness adjust-
ment knob (D) anticlockwise (Fig. 6).
The slices can be set to any thickness
between thin and approx. 22 mm. The
graduations on the slice thickness
adjustment knob do not represent mil-
limetres, but serve only as points of
reference. For safety reasons the start-
ing position (0) is designed to cover the
blade.
Switching On the Universal Slicer
Using the On/Off switch (A) it is possi-
ble to switch the appliance on and off
in two operating modes (Fig. 4):
Pulse: press switch to position II. The
circular blade (G) will rotate for as long
as the switch stays pressed in this posi-
tion.
• To stop pulse operation: release the
switch and wait until the circular blade
has come to a complete standstill.
Continuous (max. 5 minutes):
engage the switch in position I. The
circular blade will rotate without the
need to hold the switch down.
• To stop continuous operation: press
the switch briefly to position II and
wait until the blade has come to a
complete standstill.
Please note: after the appliance is
switched off, the circular blade contin-
ues to rotate for a short time.
g
10
For safety reasons, after each use
please return the stop plate (B) to the
starting position (0) using the slice
thickness adjustment knob (Fig. 6).
Instructions for Use
To operate the Universal Slicer safely
and to obtain even slices, place the
food to be sliced on the food carriage
and press the food gently against the
stop plate, if possible using the holder
(Figs. 7 and 8). With the blade rotating,
guide the food carriage with the food
to be sliced towards and against the
circular blade, applying slight pres-
sure. After use return the stop plate to
the starting position (0) using the slice
thickness adjustment knob.
Collecting the Sliced Food
Either place, for example, a plate in the
recessed area of the housing (F; for
Type USR 420) or pull the sliced food
collecting tray (E) to the left and out
from the appliance (Fig. 5, Type
USR 400 only).
Removing the Circular Blade
Before removing the circular blade it is
essential to return the stop plate to the
starting position (0) and remove the
mains plug. Please bear in mind when
carrying out the following steps that:
the circular blade is very sharp!
Insert a coin in the blade lock (General
View/J and Fig. 9) and turn it clockwise
(left-handed thread).
Holding the circular blade by the cen-
tre of turn, press against it gently from
behind and remove (Fig. 10).
Wash it by hand in warm soapy water,
not in a washing machine! Clean the
housing (F) behind the blade with a dry
cloth or a brush.
Fitting the Circular Blade
Position the circular blade, if necessary
turning slightly, in the housing cover.
The entire blade must lie within the
recess of the housing cover and stop
plate. Screw in the blade lock in an
anticlockwise direction (left-hand
rotation) and tighten.
Cleaning
The circular blade must be stationary
before the slicer is cleaned. Before
cleaning it is essential to return the
stop plate to the starting position (0)
and remove the plug from the mains.
Clean the appliance thoroughly from
time to time as perishable food
remains can collect on the appliance
and behind the circular blade (G).
Clean the motor unit with a damp
cloth. The remaining parts can be
washed in water by hand as usual or
washed in a dishwasher at a maximum
temperature of 50 °C.
Wash the circular blade carefully by
hand (risk of injury) in warm soapy
water, not in the dishwasher (rust spots
can form).
Never stand or immerse the Univer-
sal Slicer in water.
Disposal
When disposing, remove the mains lead
and take the appliance to a place
where it can be recycled (e.g., precious
metal recycling centre).

rial away. Please note the following
