4. General Guidelines

Refer to the Velleman® Service and Quality Warranty on the last pages of this manual.

Keep this device away from dust and extreme heat. Make sure the ventilation openings

are clear at all times. For sufficient air circulation, leave at least 1” (± 2.5 cm) in front

of the openings.

Protect this device from shocks and abuse. Avoid brute force when operating the

device.

• Familiarise yourself with the functions of the device before actually using it. Do not allow

operation by unqualified people. Any damage that may occur will most probably be due to

unprofessional use of the device.

• All modifications of the device are forbidden for safety reasons. Damage caused by user

modifications to the device is not covered by the warranty.

• Only use the device for its intended purpose. All other uses may lead to short circuits, burns,

electroshocks, lamp explosion, crash, etc. Using the device in an unauthorised way will void the

warranty.

• Damage caused by disregard of certain guidelines in this manual is not covered by the warranty

and the dealer will not accept responsibility for any ensuing defects or problems.

• A qualified technician should install and service this device.

• Do not switch the device on immediately after it has been exposed to changes in temperature.

Protect the device against damage by leaving it switched off until it has reached room

temperature.

• This device is a professional audio amplifier for amplifying audio signals. This product is allowed

to be operated with an alternating current of 230VAC / 50Hz or 115VAC / 60Hz and was designed

for indoor use only.

• Important remark: the operation of an amplification system in public or industrial areas is subject

to specific safety instructions. Contact the proper authorities for more information.

• Choose an installation spot where the device will not be exposed to extreme heat, moisture or

dust. Don’t leave cables lying around. They only endanger your own safety and that of others.

• Only use the device in an ambient temperature of -5°C to +45°C. Keep away from direct

insulation and heaters.

• The relative humidity must not exceed 50%.

• Always disconnect the device from the mains during thunderstorms as overvoltage could destroy

the device.

• Never use solvents or aggressive detergents in order to clean the device. Use a soft and damp

cloth.

• Removing the serial bar code from the device will void the warranty.

• The figures in this manual describe the VPA2100U1. Other models and their features are

comparable with the VPA2100U1.

• Use the original packaging if the device is to be transported.

• Keep this manual for future reference.

5. Legal Provisions

• Operating an amplification system can produce extremely high noise levels that may cause

permanent hearing loss. The legal instructions for using an amplification system vary from

country to country. The user is responsible for respecting the legal provisions applicable in his

country.

• Always monitor the sound pressure level when operating an amplification system in discos,

concerts etc. Never exceed the permissible noise level as specified by the law.

• Hearing damage caused by high noise levels can be regarded as a physical injury and may lead to

criminal prosecution.

• Please note that the organiser is responsible for respecting maximum noise levels.

6. Information on Hearing Loss

• More and more younger people suffer from hearing loss of 25dB or more, mainly caused by

listening to loud music. Every person operating amplification systems should know to what sound

pressure levels he is exposed to. In a discotheque, average levels of 75dB to 105dB are reached.

At a rock concert, the sound pressure levels can rise from 95dB up to 115dB. Individual peaks

can exceed the 130dB pain level. Such levels are typical for e.g. motor chain saws.

• It is important to know that a 3dB increase will double the sound level. The human hearing only

recognises a doubling of the sound level when the noise level is increased by 10dB. Hearing loss

does not depend on the sound level but on the noise level and starts way before than the pain

level.

• Many a one deceives himself by thinking that noise is something you can get accustomed to.

Nothing is further form the truth!

• The reason why some people have got accustomed to a certain noise level and are no longer

disturbed, is that they have already suffered hearing loss. The damage makes the hearing

insensitive to the frequencies forming the loudest part of the noise. Getting accustomed to noise

does not mean anything other than trying to get along with hearing loss in everyday life. Hearing

loss cannot be recovered and can only be compensated with hearing aids. Subjectively, hearing

loss feels like having dampened ears. This effect weakens with time but loss in hearing sensitivity

is permanent.

• In order to relax your hearing sufficiently, the noise level should not exceed 70dB for 10 hours.

Higher noise levels during this relaxing period can prevent relaxation and promote permanent

hearing damage or hearing loss.

1. Power switch

To turn the unit ON or OFF, press this button. Before turning ON the amplifier check all

connections and turn down the level control. A momentary muting is normal when turning the

amplifier ON or OFF.

CAUTION: Always turn on your amplifier last, after all your other connected equipment, and

always turn OFF your power amplifier before your other connected equipment.

2. Power LED indicators

These LEDs illuminate when the power is turned ON.

3. Limit LED indicators

These LEDs illuminate if any section of the power amplifier’s input are within 3dB of clipping.

Occasional blinking of the LEDs are acceptable, but if they remain on more then intermittently

you should turn down the level on the amplifier or reduce the output level of the preceding

component to avoid audible distortion.

4. Signal LED indicators

These LEDs illuminate to confirm the presence of an input signal greater than 100mV at that

channel of the amplifier.

12. Cleaning and maintenance

1. All screws should be tightened and free of corrosion.

2. The housing, visible parts, mounting supports and the installation location (e.g. ceiling,

suspension, trussing) should not be deformed, modified or tampered with e.g. do not drill extra

holes in mounting supports, do not change the location of the connections.

3. Moving mechanic parts must not show any signs of wear and tear.

4. The electric power supply cables must not show any damage. Have a qualified technician

maintain the device.

5. Disconnect the device from the mains prior to maintenance activities.

6. Informatie omtrent gehoorschade

• Steeds meer jongeren hebben een gehoorverlies van 25dB of meer, te wijten aan te luide muziek.

Iedere persoon die een versterkingssysteem bedient, moet op de hoogte zijn van het

geluidsdrukniveau waaraan hij is blootgesteld. In een discotheek loopt het gemiddelde niveau van

75dB tot 105dB. Op een rockconcert kan het geluidsdrukniveau oplopen van 95dB tot 115dB.

Pieken kunnen de pijngrens van 130dB overschrijden. Dit niveau is typisch voor bvb.

kettingzagen.

• Belangrijk om weten is dat een stijging van 3dB het geluidsniveau verdubbelt. Het menselijke

gehoor erkent een verdubbeling van het geluidsniveau enkel bij een stijging van

geluidsdrukniveau met 10dB. Gehoorschade is echter afhankelijk van het geluidsdrukniveau en

niet van het geluidsniveau. Gehoorschade komt al voor onder de pijngrens.

• Menigeen denkt dat men aan hoge geluidsniveaus kan wennen. Niets is minder waar!

• De reden waarom sommigen aan hoge geluidsdrukniveaus gewend zijn en er niet langer door

gestoord zijn, komt doordat zij al gehoorschade hebben opgelopen. De schade zorgt ervoor dat

het gehoor de frequenties die het luidste gedeelte van het geluidsniveau vormen niet meer kan

waarnemen. Aan geluid gewend geraken, wil zeggen dat men met gehoorschade in het dagelijkse

leven overweg kan. Gehoorschade is niet te herstellen en kan enkel dor gehoorapparaten

verholpen worden. Algemeen kan gehoorschade worden ervaren als verstopte oren. Dit kan met

tijd verminderen. Toch is het verlies van het gehoor permanent.

• Om het gehoor voldoende rust te geven, verblijft u best gedurende 10 uur in een omgeving waar

het geluidsdrukniveau 70dB niet overschrijdt. Een hoger geluidsdrukniveau kan het gehoor

permanente beschadigen.

• Bij gebruik van het versterkingssysteem moet u ervoor zorgen dat de luidsprekers altijd een

goede geluidskwaliteit geven. Distorsie wijst erop dat de versterker of de luidspreker overbelast

is. Overbelasting leidt al snel tot beschadiging van de versterker of luidspreker.

• Verlaag het volume dan onmiddellijk om beschadiging te vermijden. De garantie vervalt wanneer

de luidsprekersystemen worden beschadigd.

• Controleer het geluidsdrukniveau altijd met een geijkt meetinstrument zodat u de grenswaarden

niet overschrijdt.

• Om het systeem uit te schakelen, schakelt u eerst de versterker af en vervolgens de

voorversterkers. Zo vermijdt u plopgeluiden op de luidspreker.

11. Problemen en oplossingen

de versterkingsregeling.

Ventilator werkt niet,

12. Reiniging en onderhoud

1. Alle gebruikte schroeven moeten goed zijn aangespannen en mogen geen sporen van roest

vertonen.

2. De behuizing, de lenzen, de montagebeugels en de montageplaats (bv. het plafond of het

gebinte) mogen niet vervormd zijn of aangepast worden (geen extra gaten in montagebeugels,

aansluitingen niet verplaatsen, enz.)

3. Mechanisch bewegende delen mogen geen sporen van slijtage vertonen en mogen niet

onregelmatig bewegen.

4. De voedingskabels mogen niet beschadigd zijn. Laat het toestel onderhouden door een

geschoolde technicus.

5. Ontkoppel het toestel van het lichtnet voor u aan onderhoudswerkzaamheden begint.

6. Maak het toestel geregeld schoon met een vochtige, niet pluizende doek. Gebruik geen alcohol of

solvent.

7. De gebruiker mag geen onderdelen vervangen.

8. Bestel eventuele reserveonderdelen bij uw dealer.

5. Prescriptions légales

• L’usage de systèmes d’amplification peut s’accompagner de niveaux sonores très élevés capables

d’occasionner une perte de l’ouïe permanente. Les prescriptions légales pour l’usage d’un tel

système varient selon le pays. L’utilisateur est responsable de respecter les prescriptions

applicables dans son pays.

• Tenez à l’œil le niveau de pression sonore (SPL) lors de l’usage d’un système d’amplification dans

les discothèques, pendant des concerts etc. Faites attention de ne pas dépasser les limites

légales.

• Une perte de l’ouïe à cause d’un niveau sonore trop élevé peut être considérée comme dommage

corporel et peut donner lieu à des poursuites judiciaires.

• Remarquez que l'organisateur est responsable du respect du niveau sonore maximal.

6. Information concernant la perte d’audition

• De plus en plus de jeunes souffrent de perte d’audition de 25dB ou plus induite par l’écoute d’une

musique trop forte. Chaque personne opérant un système d’amplificateurs n’est pas sans savoir

le niveau de pression sonore auquel il est exposé. Dans une discothèque, le niveau moyen est de

75dB à 105dB. Un concert de musique rock peut engendrer un niveau de pression sonore

atteignant 95dB, voire 115dB. Des crêtes individuelles peuvent dépasser le seuil de douleur de

130dB. Ce niveau est typique pour p. ex. les tronçonneuses.

• Il est important de savoir qu’une augmentation d’une valeur de 3dB doublera le niveau sonore.

L’oreille ne perçoit un doublement du niveau sonore que lors d’une augmentation du niveau de

pression sonore de 10dB. La perte d’audition ne dépend pas du niveau sonore mais du niveau de

pression sonore. La surdité commence bien en dessous du seuil de douleur.

• Bien des gens pensent que l’on peut s’habituer au bruit. Rien n’est moins vrai !

• La raison pourquoi certaines personnes se sont habituées à un certain niveau de pression sonore

et qu’elles ne se sentent plus dérangées, se situe dans le fait ces personnes sont déjà sujettes à

la surdité. Ces lésions rendent l’ouïe insensible aux fréquences constituant le niveau le plus élevé

du son. L’accoutumance au bruit n’est autre que l’accoutumance à la surdité dans la vie de tous

les jours. La surdité est irrévocable est ne peut être compensée que par des audioprothèses. En

gros, la surdité se ressent comme si on avait des boules Quiès dans les oreilles. Cette sensation

s’atténue avec le temps. En revanche, la surdité est irrévocable.

• Pour relaxer l’ouïe, il suffit de ne pas s’exposer à un niveau de pression sonore dépassant les

70dB pendant un délai de 10 heures. Un niveau supérieur à 70dB pourrait engendrer des

dommages irrévocables à l’ouïe et fortement diminuer la sensibilité auriculaire.

8. Description

a. Panneau frontal (voir ill. 1)

1. Interrupteur d’alimentation

Enfoncez ce bouton pour allumer ou éteindre l’appareil. Veillez à baisser le niveau du volume

et contrôlez les connexions avant d’allumer l’amplificateur. Il est normal que le son soit

momentanément étouffé lors de la mise en marche ou de la mise hors circuit.

ATTENTION : Allumez votre amplificateur en dernier, c.à.d. après avoir allumé tout autre

appareil connecté. Éteignez votre amplificateur en premier, c.à.d. avant d’éteindre tout

autre appareil connecté.

2. Indication LED « POWER »

Ces LEDs s’allument lors de la mise en marche de l’appareil.

3. Indication LED « LIMIT »

Ces LEDs s’illuminent lorsqu’une section de l’entrée passe en régime de saturation dans 3dB.

Un clignotement occasionnel des LEDs est acceptable. Cependant, baisser le niveau du volume

de l’amplificateur ou réduisez le niveau du volume de sortie d’un appareil précédent si elles

s’allument de manière constante pour éviter une distorsion du son.

4. Indication LED « SIGNAL »

Ces LEDs s’allument pour confirmer la présence d’un signal d’entrée supérieur à 100mV.

5. Indication LED « PROTECT »

Ces LEDs s’illuminent si la connexion de sortie de l’amplificateur est court-circuitée ou si

l’impédance est trop basse. Si une de ces LEDs s’allume, éteignez l’appareil et vérifiez la

connexion de sortie. Rallumez l’amplificateur.

6. Contrôle du niveau de volume relatif

Contrôle du niveau du signal vers chaque canal. Le gain de tension véritable est exprimé en

dB. Tournez ceux-ci dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d’une montre si les LEDs de crête

s’illuminent de manière constante (indique un signal d’entrée trop important).

b. Panneau arrière (voir ill. 2)

7. Connexion d’alimentation

La connexion d’alimentation sert à brancher votre amplificateur au réseau CA.

ATTENTION : Ne retirez jamais la broche de la prise de terre.

8. Porte-fusible

Remplacez un fusible grillé par un fusible du même type. Si le fusible grille sur une base

régulière, débranchez votre amplificateur est consultez un technicien qualifié.

9. Sélecteur tension CA

Avant de brancher le cordon d’alimentation, assurez-vous que l’appareil soit réglé pour

recevoir la tension du réseau local, c.à.d. 115VCA / 60Hz ou 230VCA / 50Hz.

10. Connexion d’entrée

Connexions d’entrée jack ¼” asymétriques pour le signal d’entrée.

11. Connexion de sortie canal gauche / droite

Raccordez la connexion à l’enceinte gauche et droite à l’aide d’un connecteur type

« Speakon® ».

12. Ventilation

La vitesse du ventilateur est automatiquement régulée pour assure rune température

intérieure adéquate.

9. Installation

a. Montage en rack

• Cet amplificateur est conçu pour des racks 19”. Installez également un ventilateur. Lors du

montage, prévoyez assez de place pour l’évacuation de l’air chaud. L’appareil pourrait

s’endommager en cas d’une surchauffe continue.

• Fixez l'amplificateur à l'aide des 4 vis M6 incorporées.

• Faites attention lors du montage. Placez l’appareil le plus lourd en bas de votre rack. Il ne

suffit pas de fixer l’appareil avec les 4 vis sur le panneau frontal. Ajoutez des barres

métalliques en dessous et aux flancs de l'appareil.

• Lorsque vous transportez l’appareil, il faut attacher le support du dos aux barres de protection

latérales pour empêcher que l’amplificateur soit projeté en arrière.

b. Entrées

• Un câble de haute qualité à une influence positive sur la qualité sonore. Utilisez des câbles

courts et branchez-les directement à l’appareil. Les hautes fréquences sont largement

10. Opération

• Branchez l’amplificateur au réseau et mettez les deux réglages d’amplification dans leur position

minimale. Allumez l’amplificateur comme dernier. Les LEDs « ON » et « PROTECT » s’allument.

Vérifiez si l’amplificateur est bien connecté au réseau si les LEDs ne s’allument pas.

• Les haut-parleurs sont branchés après la temporisation d'activation (la LED PROTECT s’éteint).

• Après avoir mis les réglages de volume du préamplificateur dans la position minimale, il faut

mettre le réglage d’amplification de votre amplificateur dans la position centrale. En cas de bruit il

faut contrôler les câbles entre le préamplificateur et votre amplificateur (d’abord éteindre les

composants !). Réglez le volume avec les réglages d’amplification CH-1 et CH-2.

ATTENTION ! Évitez de régler les canaux sur un niveau trop élevé de sorte que la LED LIMIT

s’allume en continu. Faites attention qu’il n’y ait pas de distorsion sur le signal de sortie

pour éviter d’endommager vos haut-parleurs.

Les principaux modes d’opération de l’amplificateur sont visualisés sur le panneau frontal.

SIGNAL niveau de sortie

LIMIT court-circuit ou impédance trop faible ou signal distordu

PROTECT activé momentanément lors de l’activation de l’appareil ou lors de l’activation

d’un des circuits de protection.

• Veillez à la qualité sonore des amplificateurs lors de l’utilisation du système d’amplification. La

distorsion est une indication que l’amplificateur ou le haut-parleur est surchargé. La surcharge

peut facilement endommager l’amplificateur ou le haut-parleur.

• Vérifiez le niveau de pression sonore avec un instrument de mesure calibré et faites attention

de ne pas franchir les valeurs limites.

• Pour désactiver le système, vous éteignez d'abord l'amplificateur et ensuite les

préamplificateurs, ce qui permet d'éviter les parasites.

11. Problèmes et solutions

12. Nettoyage et entretien

1. Serrer les écrous et les vis et vérifier qu’ils ne rouillent pas.

2. Le boîtier, les lentilles, les supports de montage et la construction portante ne peuvent pas être

déformés, adaptés ou bricolés p.ex. pas de trous additionnels dans un support, ne pas déplacer

les connexions etc.

3. Les parties mécaniques mobiles ne peuvent pas être usées ou bouger de manière irrégulière.

4. Les câbles d'alimentation ne peuvent pas être endommagés. Un technicien qualifié doit entretenir

l’appareil.

5. Débrancher l’appareil avant de le nettoyer.

6. Essuyer l’appareil régulièrement avec un chiffon humide non pelucheux. Éviter l’usage d’alcool et

de solvants.

7. Il n’y a aucune pièce maintenable par l’utilisateur.

8. Commander des pièces de rechange éventuelles chez votre revendeur.
