INTRODUCTION

The 3.9 Gallon Backpack Sprayer is ideal for residential or commercial pest

control, gardening and cleaning applications.

WORK AREA

PERSONAL SAFETY

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection

for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply with CSA Z94.3-07

or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.

2. Wear the appropriate type of full-face shield in addition to safety googles,

as the work can create molten, acid or chemical splashes.

3. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or to

reduce the effects of tool vibration.

4. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool.

5. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in the

work environment.

6. Wear steel toe footwear or steel toe caps to prevent a foot injury from

falling objects.

7. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator when working on materials that

produce hazardous fumes, dust or particulate matter.

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS

Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid

personal injury or damage to tool.

1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol

or medications.

2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the

moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.

3. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance

enables better control in unexpected situations.

SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

WARNING! DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product (gained from

repeated use) replace strict adherence to the tool safety rules. If you use

this tool unsafely or incorrectly, you can suffer serious personal injury.

1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific function.

Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended purpose.

a. Only use a nozzle tip specified for this tool.

2. Verify that all connections are secure before operating the paint spray gun.

3. Know how to bleed the pressure quickly in case of an emergency.

4. Do not spray on windy days.

5. Protective clothing must be worn when spraying hazardous chemicals.

6. Ensure that the correct chemical concentrations are in place

before spraying. Follow all instructions and formulas provided by the

chemical’s manufacturer.

7. Flush out the system after each use.

8. Observe the warnings on the packaging of any chemicals used for

spraying. Chemicals are hazardous to your health. Wear proper breathing

equipment and clothing when handling and spraying.

9. Do not allow the spray to strike you and do not spray toward people or

animals. Do not spray the tool itself or any electrical sources.

10. Never fill the sprayer with hot liquids. Chemical solutions in the sprayer

must be cooler than 45ºC to avoid damaging the tool.

11. This sprayer is for use with mild detergents and chemicals for pest control and

agricultural use. Do not use with flammable, corrosive or caustic solutions.

12. Do not place hands or fingers in front of the nozzle.

13. Test the sprayer with clean water prior to use. Check that the tank, hose,

control switch and nozzle for possible leaks before using chemical solutions.

14. Never disassemble the hose and various parts during pumping operation

or when there is residual pressure in the Pressure Cylinder. The pressure

may eject components or spray chemical solutions onto the user or

bystanders, causing an injury or toxic contamination.

15. Do not leave the spray gun under pressure while unattended. Relieve the

pressure in the tool before leaving.

16. Upon the finishing spraying with a chemical solution, change clothes and

wash exposed parts of your body such as your hands and face. In case of

toxic pesticide and germicide, a shower after operation is required to ensure

safety. Follow all safety instructions from the chemical’s manufacturer.

UNPACKING

WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the

missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction

and personal injury.

Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage.

Make sure that all items in the parts list are included.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION

Numbered references in parenthesis (#1) refer to the included Parts List.

Dashed numbers in parenthesis (Fig. 1-1) refer to a

specific point in an illustration or image.

1. Push the end of the hose (#12, A) onto

the barb on the back of the spray tank

(Fig. 1-1). Secure the hose onto the barb

with a hose clamp.

2. Screw the assembled

sprayer wand (#5) onto

the control switch

assembly (Fig. 2).

3. Screw the sprayer wand nut (#6) on the hose onto the end of the

sprayer wand.

4. Slide the pump handle (#43) over the end of the pump shaft (#44). Push

against the lower part of the handle to create a friction fit.

5. Attach the loop at the top end of each strap (#14) to the sprayer tank (see

Parts Breakdown). Clip the strap hooks (#16) the long openings on either side

of the spray tank (#21).

OPERATION

Use the sprayer to spray water or chemicals for general cleaning or for pest and

weed control. Avoid using the sprayer for general cleaning purposes if the

sprayer was used with pesticides or herbicides to avoid toxic contamination.

Clean the sprayer completely after spraying chemicals (see cleaning section).

Bleach used with the sprayer should be diluted to 1 part bleach to 9 parts water.

1. Unscrew the spray tank’s lid (#17) and pour the prepared mixture through the

strainer (#20) carefully before replacing the tank lid. Mount the sprayer on

your back and turn the pump handle to boost the gas pressure in the pressure

cylinder assembly (#23) before holding down the control switch (#9) to spray.

2. Switch to constant spraying by squeezing the control switch trigger (#9-2)

and pulling the limit cap (#9-1) backwards. Push the limit cap forwards to

release the trigger and return to spot spraying.

3. Turn the nozzle cap clockwise for a larger angle, short range and a better

spray distribution. Turn counterclockwise for a smaller angle, long range

and narrow spray distribution.

4. Powder-based chemicals (power mixed with water to make the spraying

agent) are usually abrasive and can cause wear. When you use a powder-

based chemical in your sprayer, make sure it is thoroughly dissolved in the

liquid solution. Thoroughly clean and flush the sprayer with water to

extend the life of the sprayer parts.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to

control and will have fewer problems.

2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or

worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.

3. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.

4. Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.

5. Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates. These carry important information.

If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.

WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An

improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.

DISASSEMBLY AND REASSEMBLY

1. Remove the cotter pin (#45) and pump

handle (#43).

2. Lay the unit on its back with the pump face

towards you. Loosen the hose clamp and remove

the sprayer hose from the spray tank (#21).

3. Remove the Pressure Cylinder clamp (#37).

Rotate the cylinder cap (#39) to access the

pump lever (#34).

4. Use an Allen wrench to remove both socket head

cap screws (#35) from the pump lever. Pull the

piston assembly out of the piston cylinder (Fig. 3).

5. Remove the piston cylinder assembly by turning

the piston cylinder counter-clockwise (Fig. 4).

CAUTION! The piston cylinder may have

sharp edges that can cut. Wear gloves to

protect your hands.

6. Check for vertical scratches on the inside

of the piston cylinder (#28), the piston (#28)

and the collar (#30). Replace any part with

scratches (Fig. 5).

7. Push the collar off the piston’s crown with

your thumbs when replacing it. Detach the

internal compression spring (#29) in the

collar. After replacing the collar, re-attach

the spring to the collar (Fig. 6).

8. There are 2 valve plates (#27) on the piston

cylinder, one on the inside of the cylinder and

one on the outside top. The valve plates are

held in place with a Phillips head screw (#25)

and a flat washer (#26). Check and adjust if

necessary (Fig. 7).

9. Check the o-rings (#22 and #24) for damage

and ensure they are positioned in the o-ring

grooves on the piston cylinder (Fig. 8).

a. Grease the o-rings on the piston cylinder

(do not get any grease on the valve plates).

b. Screw the piston assembly into the

pressure cylinder base. Screw the piston

clockwise until tight and the bottom o-

ring is no longer visible.

c. The tab (#B) on the piston cylinder will

line up with the rib on the pressure

cylinder base when properly placed.

10. Apply petroleum jelly to the inside of the piston

cylinder wall and on the collar, and reinstall the

piston assembly into the piston cylinder (Fig. 9).

11. Insert the piston at an angle with the leading edge

of the collar placed over the slot in the piston

cylinder. Bolt the piston assembly to the pump

shaft using socket hexagon screw (Fig. 10).

12. Replace the protective cylinder cap. Tighten

the nut (#36) and bolt (#40). Reinstall the

pump handle. Reinsert the hose over the

spray tank’s barb and firmly secure the hose

clamp in place (Fig. 11).

CLEANING

Do not use strong cleaning agents. You may use clean water or soap water.

1. Rinse the tool’s outside at a permitted place when spraying is completed.

Clean the inside by applying continual pressure and spraying with water till

the discharged solution becomes clear.

2. Clean the wand and nozzle with water and a mild soap using a soft brush.

a. Do not dislodge foreign objects from the nozzle with a hard object as

it can damage the tool.

b. Disconnect the control switch assembly (9#) from the hose (#12) to

access the filter (#9-11). Clean the filter and reassemble.

LUBRICATION

Inspect and lubricate the tool when required. Apply grease to moving parts after

the sprayer has been cleaned. Occasionally oil the o-rings and nozzles.

DISPOSAL

Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.

Contact your local municipality for a list of disposal facilities or by-laws for

electronic devices, batteries, oil or other toxic liquids.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not function

properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualified technician

service the tool.

13. Essayez le pulvérisateur avec de l’eau propre avant de l’utiliser. Vérifiez si le

réservoir, le tuyau, l’interrupteur de commande et la buse présentent des

fuites avant d’utiliser des solutions chimiques.

14. Ne démontez jamais le tuyau et les différentes pièces pendant le pompage

ou si le cylindre de pression présente une pression résiduelle. La pression

peut éjecter les composants ou vaporiser les solutions chimiques sur

l’utilisateur ou sur les gens à proximité, entraînant ainsi des blessures ou

une contamination en raison des produits toxiques.

15. Ne laissez pas le pistolet pulvérisateur sans surveillance alors qu’il est

sous pression. Évacuez la pression à l’intérieur de l’outil avant de quitter.

16. Après avoir fini de vaporiser la solution chimique, changez de vêtements et

lavez les parties exposées de votre corps, comme les mains et le visage.

On recommande de prendre une douche après avoir utilisé le pulvérisateur

si vous avez utilisé un pesticide ou un germicide toxique. Observez toutes

les consignes de sécurité du fabricant du produit chimique.

DÉBALLAGE

AVERTISSEMENT ! Ne faites pas fonctionner l'outil si des pièces sont

manquantes. Remplacez les pièces manquantes avant l'utilisation. Le

non-respect de cet avertissement peut entraîner une défectuosité et des

blessures graves.

Retirez les pièces et les accessoires de l'emballage et vérifiez s'il y a des

dommages. Assurez-vous que tous les articles sur la liste de pièces sont compris.

ASSEMBLAGE ET INSTALLATION

Les numéros de référence entre parenthèses (n

1) se rapportent à la liste de

pièces comprise. Les numéros entrecoupés entre parenthèses (fig. 1-1) se

rapportent à un point précis d'une illustration ou d'une image.

1. Enfoncez l’extrémité du tuyau (n

12, A) sur le

raccord à barbelures à l’arrière du réservoir de

pulvérisation (fig. 1-1). Fixez le tuyau sur le

raccord à barbelures au moyen d’un collier de

serrage pour tuyau.

2. Vissez la lance de pulvérisateur assemblée

5) sur l’ensemble d’interrupteur de

commande (fig. 2).

3. Vissez l’écrou de lance de

pulvérisateur (n

6) sur le

tuyau à l’extrémité de la

lance du pulvérisateur.
