manufacturer. Ifyou have questions, contact the

m Before servicing or cleaning the unit, switch power off at
service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to
prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When
the service disconnecting means cannot be locked,
securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag,
to the service panel.

m Never leave surface units unattended at high settings.
Boilovers cause smoking and greasy spillovers that may

m Clean ventilating fans frequently. Grease should not be

Locat on Requ rements
IMPORTANT: Observe all governing codes and ordinances.
Have a qualified technician install the range hood. It is the
installer's responsibility to comply with installation clearances
specified on the model/serial rating plate. The model/serial rating
plate is located behind the left filter on the rear wall of the vent
hood.
Canopy hood location should be away from strong draft areas,
such as windows, doors and strong heating vents.
Cabinet opening dimensions that are shown must be used. Given
dimensions provide minimum clearance.
This range hood is recommended for use with cooktops with a
maximum total rating of 65,000 BTUs or less.
Grounded electrical outlet is required. See "Electrical
Requirements" section.
The canopy hood is factory set for venting through the roof or
wall. For non-vented (recirculating) Installation see "For Non-
vented (recirculating) Installations Only" in "Connect Vent
System" section. The Recirculation Kit Part Number is
W1027063. Charcoal filters are also required for non-vented
(recirculating) installations. The Charcoal Filter Kit Part Number is
W1027068. See the "Assistance or Service" section to order.
All openings in ceiling and wall where canopy hood will be
installed must be sealed.
For Mobile Home Installations
The installation of this range hood must conform to the
Manufactured Home Construction Safety Standards, Title 24
CFR, Part 328 (formerly the Federal Standard for Mobile Home
Construction and Safety, Title 24, HUD, Part 280) or when such
standard is not applicable, the standard for Manufactured Home
Installation 1982 (Manufactured Home Sites, Communities and
Setups) ANSI A225.1/NFPA 501A, or latest edition, or with local
codes.

*NOTE: The range hood chimneys are adjustable and designed
to meet varying ceiling or soffit heights depending on the
distance "X" between the bottom of the range hood and the
cooking surface. For higher ceilings, a Stainless Steel Chimney
Extension Kit Part Number W10337357 is available from your
dealer or an authorized parts distributor. The chimney extension
replaces the upper chimney shipped with the range hood.

Vent system must terminate to the outdoors, except for non-
vented (recirculating)installations.
Do not terminate the vent system in an attic or other enclosed
area.
Do not use 4" (10.2 cm) laundry-type wall cap.
Use metal vent only. Rigid metal vent is recommended.
Plastic or metal foil vent is not recommended.
The length of vent system and number of elbows should be
kept to a minimum to provide efficient performance.
For the most efficient and quiet operation:
Use no more than three 90° elbows.
Make sure there is a minimum of 24" (61 cm) of straight vent
between the elbows if more than 1 elbow is used.
Do not install 2 elbows together.
Use clamps to seal all joints in the vent system.
The vent system must have a damper. Ifthe roof or wall cap
has a damper, do not use the damper supplied with the range
hood.
Use caulking to seal exterior wall or roof opening around the
cap.
The size of the vent should be uniform.
Cold Weather Installations
An additional back draft damper should be installed to minimize
backward cold air flow and athermal break should be installed to
minimize conduction of outside temperatures as part of the vent
system. The damper should be on the cold air side of the thermal
break.
The break should be as close as possible to where the vent
system enters the heated portion of the house.
Makeup Air
Local building codes may require the use of makeup air systems
when using ventilation systems greater than specified CFM of air
movement. The specified CFM varies from locale to locale.
Consult your HVAC professional for specific requirements in your
area.
Venting Methods
This canopy hood is factory set for venting through the roof or
wall.
A 6" (15.2 cm) round vent system is needed for installation (not
included). The hood exhaust opening is 6" (15.2 cm) round.
NOTE: Flexible vent is not recommended. Flexible vent creates
back pressure and air turbulence that greatly reduce
performance.
Vent system can terminate either through the roof or wall. To vent
through a wall, a 90° elbow is needed.
Rear discharge
A 90° elbow may be installed immediately above the hood.
For Non-Vented (recirculating) Installations
If it is not possible to vent cooking fumes and vapors to the
outside, the hood can be used in the non-vented (recirculating)
version, using a Recirculation Kit (which includes charcoal filters
and a deflector). To order, see the "Assistance or Service" section.

Calculating Vent System Length
To calculate the length of the system you need, add the
equivalent feet (meters) for each vent piece used in the system.

Electr cal Requ rements
Observe all governing codes and ordinances.
Ensure that the electrical installation is adequate and in
conformance with National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 (latest
edition), or CSA Standards C22.1-94, Canadian Electrical Code,
Part 1 and C22.2 No. 0-M91 (latest edition) and all local codes
and ordinances.
If codes permit and a separate ground wire is used, it is
recommended that a qualified electrician determine that the
ground path is adequate.

A 120 volt, 60 Hz., AC only, 15-amp, fused electrical circuit is
required.
If the house has aluminum wiring, follow the procedure
below:
1. Connect a section of solid copper wire to the pigtail
leads.
2. Connect the aluminum wiring to the added section of
copper wire using special connectors and/or tools
designed and UL listed for joining copper to aluminum.
Follow the electrical connector manufacturer's recommended
procedure. Aluminum/copper connection must conform with
local codes and industry accepted wiring practices.
Wire sizes and connections must conform with the rating of
the appliance as specified on the model/serial rating plate.
The model/serial plate is located behind the filter on the rear
wall of the range hood.
Wire sizes must conform to the requirements of the National
Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 (latest edition), or CSA
Standards C22.1-94, Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1 and
C22.2 No. 0-M91 (latest edition) and all local codes and
ordinances.

It is recommended that the vent system be installed before
hood is installed.
Before making cutouts, make sure there is proper clearance
within the ceiling or wall for exhaust vent.
Check your ceiling height and the hood height maximum
before you select your hood.
Disconnect power.
Determine which venting method to use: roof, wall, or non-
vented.
9. Drill 3/le"(4.8 mm) pilot holes at all locations where screws are
being installed into wood.
10. Install 2 - 5 x 45 mm mounting screws. Leave a 1/4"(6.4 mm)
gap between the wall and the back of the screw head to slide
range hood into place.

Select a flat surface for assembling the range hood. Place
covering over that surface. Vent Cover Support Bracket Installation

Excessive Weight Hazard
Use two or more people to move and install
range hood.
Failure to do so can result in back or other injury.
Installations using telescoping upper and lower vent cover
assembly
1. Position vent cover bracket on wall about 1/8"(3.0 mm) away
from the ceiling.
2. Mark the hole locations.
3. Drill %" (9.5 mm) holes for wall anchors and insert anchors
flush with the wall.
4. Using 2 or more people, lift range hood onto covered surface.
Range Hood Mounting Screws Installation
5. Determine and mark the centerline on the wall where the
canopy hood will be installed.
6. Select a mounting height between a minimum of 24"
(61.0 cm) for an electric cooking surface, a minimum of 27"
(68.6 cm) for a gas cooking surface, and a suggested
maximum of 36" (91.4 cm) above the range to the bottom
of the hood. Mark a reference line on the wall.
7. Tape template in place, aligning the template centerline and
bottom of template with hood bottom line and with the
centerline marked on the wall.

Mark centers of the fastener locations through the template
to the wall.
IMPORTANT: All canopy mounting screws must be installed
into wood. If there is no wood to screw into, additional wall
framing supports may be required.
Remove the template.

Complete Preparation
1. Determine and make all necessary cuts in the wall for the vent
system. Install the vent system before installing the hood. See
"Venting Requirements" section.
2. Determine the required height for the home power supply
cable and drill a 1W' (3.2 cm) hole at this location.
3. Run the home power supply cable according to the National
Electrical Code or CSA Standards and local codes and
ordinances. There must be enough 1/2"conduit and wires from
the fused disconnect (or circuit breaker) box to make the
connection in the hood's electrical terminal box.
NOTE: Do not reconnect power until installation is complete.
4. Use caulk to seal all openings.
Install In-Line Smart Kit - Optional
NOTE: Your range hood can work with either an internal or an in-
line (external) blower motor system. An optional In-Line Smart Kit
(purchased separately) allows the blower motor that comes with
this range hood to be installed in a location other than inside the
range hood cavity.
CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire and electric shock, install this
range hood only with the In-Line Smart Kit manufactured by
Whirlpool, Part Number W10692945.
For installation see the In-Line Smart Kit installation instructions.

Install Range Hood
Using 2 or more people, hang range hood on 2 mounting
screws through the mounting slots on back of hood.

For vented installations only:
1. Fit vent system over transition piece.
2. Seal connection with clamps.
3. Check that back draft dampers work properly.
For non-vented (recirculating) installation only:
1. Assemble the air deflector with the duct cover bracket with
2 - assembly screws provided with the Recirculation Kit.

supplied with the power cord kit. See the "Assistance or Service"
section for information on ordering.
NOTE: Use only with range hood cord connection kits that have
been investigated and found acceptable for use with this model
range hood.

When using both upper and lower vent covers, push lower
cover down onto hood and lift upper cover to ceiling and
install with 2 - 2.9 x 6.5 mm screws.
NOTE: For vented installations, the upper vent cover may be
reversed to hide slots.

RANGE HOOD
The range hood is designed to remove smoke, cooking vapors and
odors from the cooktop area. For best results, start the hood
before cooking and allow it to operate several minutes after the

Operating the light
The Light On/Off button (A) controls both lights. Press once for
On and again for Off.

The Blower On/Off button (B) turns the blower On or Off. The
Blower Speed buttons (C, D and E)set the desired speed and
control the sound level for quiet operation. The speed can be
changed anytime during fan operation by pressing the desired
blower speed button.
1. Toturn the blower On, press the Blower On/Off button (B) and
the desired speed button (C, D or E).
2. To turn the blower Off, press the Blower On/Off button (B).
Any of the 3 blower speed buttons can be in the On position at
the same time. The blower will operate at the highest speed
button that is pushed in. For lower blower speeds, the higher
speed buttons must not be pushed in.

RANGE HOOD CARE
Cleaning
IMPORTANT: Clean the hood and grease filters frequently
according to the following instructions. Replace grease filters
before operating hood.
Exterior Surfaces:
To avoid damage to the exterior surface, do not use steel wool or
soap-filled scouring pads.
Always wipe dry to avoid water marks.
Cleaning Method:
Liquid detergent soap and water, or all-purpose cleanser
Non-Vented (Recirculating) Installation Filters
The charcoal filter is not washable. It should last up to 6 months
with normal use. Replace with Charcoal Filter Kit Number
W10272068.
To Replace Charcoal Filter:
1. Cover the grille that covers the blower motor with the
charcoal filter so that the slots on the filter correspond to the
pins on the sides of the motor grille.
Wipe with damp soft cloth or nonabrasive sponge, then rinse
with clean water and wipe dry.
Metal Grease Filter:

Open the stainless steel panel. Grasp panel at the front
corners and pull down to disengage the 2 catch pins from the
spring catches. The panel is attached at the rear and will
rotate down.

Remove each filter by pulling the spring release handle and
then pulling down the filter.

3. Wash metal filters as needed in dishwasher or hot detergent
solution.
4. Reinstall the filter by making sure the spring release handles
are toward the front. Insert aluminum filter into upper track.
5. Push in spring release handle.
6. Push up on metal filter and release handle to latch into place.
7. Repeat steps 1-5 for the other filter.
8. Close the stainless steel panel. Engage the (2) pins in the
spring catches to secure.

II est recommande d'utiliser cette hotte avec une table de
cuisson dont la puissance totale ne depasse pas 65 000 BTU.
On doit disposer d'une prise de courant electrique reliee & la
terre. Voir la section "Specifications electriques".
La hotte est configuree & I'usine pour une decharge a travers le
toit ou un tour. Pour une installation sans decharge &I'exterieur

*REMARQUE : Les cache-conduits de hotte sont reglables; on
peut les ajuster en fonction de la hauteur disponible sous
plafond ou soffite, selon la distance "X" entre le bas de la hotte
et la surface de cuisson. Pour des plafonds de hauteur
superieure, un ensemble d'extension de cache-conduit en acier
inoxydable, piece numero W10337357 est disponible chez votre
marchand ou chez un distributeur de pieces autoris&
L'extension de cache-conduit remplace la section superieure de
cache-conduit fournie avec la hotte.
Exigences concernant J'6vacuation

Le circuit d'evacuation dolt decharger I'air a I'exterieur,
excepte pour une installation sans decharge a I'exterieur
(recyclage).
Ne pas terminer le circuit d'evacuation dans un grenier ou
dans un autre espace ferm&
Ne pas utiliser une bouche de decharge murale de 4"
(10,2 cm) normalement utilisee pour un equipement de
buanderie.
Utiliser uniquement des conduits metalliques. On
recommande I'utilisation de conduits metalliques rigides. Ne
pas utiliser de conduit de plastique ou en feuille metallique.
La Iongueur du circuit d'evacuation et le nombre de coudes
doivent etre reduits au minimum pour fournir la meilleure
performance.
Pour un fonctionnement efficace et silencieux :
Ne pas utiliser plus de trois coudes a 90°.
Veiller ace qu'il y ait une section droite de conduit de 24"
(61,0 cm) ou plus entre deux coudes, si on dolt utiliser plus
de un raccord coud&
Ne pas connecter 2 coudes ensemble.
Au niveau de chaque jointure du circuit d'evacuation, assurer
I'etancheite avec les brides de serrage pour conduit.
Le circuit d'evacuation dolt comporter un clapet anti-reflux. Si
la bouche de decharge murale ou par le toit comporte un
clapet, ne pas utiliser le clapet fourni avec la hotte.
Autour de la bouche de decharge & I'exterieur (mur ou toit),
assurer I'etancheite avec un compose de calfeutrage.
La taille du conduit dolt etre uniforme.

Installation dans une r_gion & climat froid
On doit installer un clapet anti-reflux additionnel pour minimiser
le reflux d'air froid, et incorporer un 61ement d'isolation thermique
pour minimiser la perte de chaleur par conduction par
I'intermediaire du circuit d'evacuation, de I'interieur de la maison
&I'exterieur. Le clapet anti-reflux doit _tre place du c6te froid par
rapport a I'el6ment d'isolation thermique.
L'el6ment d'isolation thermique doit _tre aussi proche que
possible de I'endroit oQle circuit d'evacuation p6n_tre la partie
chauffee de la maison.
Air d'appoint
Le code du b&timent local peut exiger I'emploi d'un systeme
d'introduction d'air d'appoint, Iors de I'utilisation d'un systeme
d'aspiration de debit superieur &une valeur (pieds cubes par
minute) specifi6e. Le debit sp6cifie, pieds cubes par minute, est
variable d'une juridiction &une autre. Consulter un professionnel
des installations de chauffage/ventilation/climatisation au sujet
des exigences specifiques applicables dans la juridiction locale.
M_thodes d'_vacuation
Cette hotte a et6 configuree & I'usine pour la decharge de I'air
aspire a travers le toit ou &travers un mur.
Un circuit d'evacuation en conduit rond de 6" (15,2 cm) (non
fourni) est necessaire pour I'installation. La hotte comporte une
ouverture de sortie de diam_tre 6" (15,2 cm).
REMARQUE • On deconseille I'emploi de conduit flexible. Un
conduit flexible peut causer une retropression et des turbulences
de I'air, ce qui reduit considerablement la performance.
La sortie a I'exterieur du circuit d'evacuation peut se faire &
travers le toit ou & travers un mur. Pour la sortie a travers un mur,
on doit employer un raccord coude (90°).
D6charge par I'arri_re
Le raccord coude a 90° peut _tre installe immediatement au-
dessus de la hotte.
Installations sans d_charge & I'ext_rieur (recyclage)
S'il n'est pas possible d'evacuer les fumees et vapeurs de
cuisson & I'exterieur, on peut employer la version d'installation
sans decharge & I'exterieur (recyclage) de la hotte & I'aide d'un
ensemble de recyclage (comprenant des filtres & charbon et un
deflecteur). Pour commander, voir la section "Assistance ou
service".
