8. ACCESSORIES

Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand,

tripod, bracket or table. The product may fall,

or table recommended by the manufacturer or sold

11. GROUNDING OR POLARIZATION

This product is equipped with a polarized

alternating-current line plug (a plug having one blade

wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power

outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you

are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try

reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit,

contact your electrician to replace your obsolete

outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the

polarized plug.

12. POWER-CORD PROTECTION

Power-supply cords should be routed so that they

are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items

placed upon or against them, paying particular

attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles,

and the point where they exit from the appliance.

13. LIGHTNING

To protect your product from a lightning storm, or

when it is left unattended and unused for long

periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and

disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will

prevent damage to the product due to lightning and

power-line surges.

14. POWER LINES

An outside antenna system should not be located in

the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric

light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such

power lines or circuits. When installing an outside

antenna system, extreme care should be taken to

keep from touching such power lines or circuits as

contact with them might be fatal.

15. OVERLOADING

Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as

this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.

16. OBJECT AND LIQUID ENTRY

Never push objects of any kind into this product

through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage

points or short out parts that could result in fire or

electric shock. Never spill or spray any type of liquid on

the product.

17. OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDING

If an outside antenna is connected to the product, be

sure the antenna system is grounded so as to

provide some protection against voltage surges and

built-up static charges. Section 810 of the National

Electric Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information

with respect to proper grounding of the mast and

supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to

an antenna discharge product, size of grounding

conductors, location of antenna discharge product,

connection to grounding electrodes and

requirements for grounding electrodes.

18. SERVICING

Do not attempt to service this product yourself as

opening or removing covers may expose you to

dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all

servicing to qualified service personnel.

19. REPLACEMENT PARTS

When replacement parts are required, be sure the

service technician uses replacement parts specified

by the manufacturer or those that have the same

characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized

substitutions may result in fire, electric shock or

other hazards.

20. SAFETY CHECK

Upon completion of any service or repairs to this

product, ask the service technician to perform safety

checks to determine that the product is in proper

operating condition.

21. WALL OR CEILING MOUNTING

The product should be mounted to a wall or ceiling

only as recommended by the manufacturer.

22. DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE

Unplug the product from the wall outlet and refer

servicing to qualified service personnel under the

following conditions:

a. When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged.

b. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen

into the product.

c. If the product has been exposed to rain or water.

d. If the product does not operate normally by fol-

lowing the operating instructions. Adjust only

those controls that are covered by the operating

instructions, as an adjustment of other controls

restore the product to its normal operation.

23. HEAT

The product should be situated away from heat

sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves or

other products (including amplifiers) that produce

heat.

24. NOTE TO CATV SYSTEM INSTALLER

This reminder is provided to call the CATV system

installer's attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that

provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in

particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be

connected to the grounding system of the building,

as close to the point of cable entry as practical.

Here are a few of the special features of your new

Color Television.

Automatic Channel Programming: Quick and

easy selection of available stations.

Child Lock : Locks the buttons on the front of the TV

so it cannot be operated accidentally by young

children.

Closed Captioning: Allows you to read TV program

dialog or voice conversations as on-screen text.

Off-Timer: Turns off the TV at a preset time.

On-Timer: Turns on the TV at a preset time to a

designated TV channel or video source.

On-Screen Menus: On-Screen text (in English,

French, or Spanish) for setting TV controls.

Parental Lock: Allows you to block the viewing of

certain TV channels if you do not want your children

viewing inappropriate material.

Remote Control: Operates your TV and navigates

the menus.

Sleep Timer: Turns off the TV within an amount of

time you specify. (10-120 minutes from the current

time).

Picture Preset Mode: Lets you set the picture’s

color, tint, contrast, etc. for various types of

programming. Settings include Mild, Standard,

Dynamic, and Personal, which set the picture control as

you want.

Antenna Connection

OUTDOOR VHF/UHF ANTENNA CONNECTION (ANTENNA NOT INCLUDED)

Follow the instructions for the type of antenna system you intend to use.

Combination VHF/UHF Antenna

Connect the UHF twin-lead wire to a combiner

(NOT SUPPLIED). Connect the VHF twin-lead to a

300-75 ohm matching transformer (NOT

SUPPLIED). Attach the transformer to the

combiner. Attach the combiner to the antenna jack.

Connect the 75 ohm cable from the VHF antenna

and the UHF antenna twin-lead wire to a

combiner (NOT SUPPLIED). Attach the

combiner to the antenna jack.

NOTE: If your VHF antenna has a twin-lead wire,

use a 300-75 ohm matching transformer, then

connect the transformer to the combiner.

Connect the 75 ohm cable from the combination

VHF/UHF antenna to the antenna jack.

If your combination antenna has a 300 ohm twin-

lead wire, use a 300-75 ohm matching

transformer (NOT SUPPLIED).

Cable(CATV) /Satellite Connections

This TV has an extended tuning range and can tune most cable channels without using a Cable TV

converter box. Some Cable TV companies offer “premium pay channels” in which the signal is scrambled.

Descrambling these signals for normal viewing requires the use of a descrambler device which is generally

provided by the cable company.

FOR SUBSCRIBERS TO BASIC CABLE TV SERVICE

For basic cable service not requiring a converter/descrambler

box, connect the CATV 75 ohm coaxial cable to the VHF/UHF

jack on the rear of the TV.

FOR SUBSCRIBERS TO SCRAMBLED CABLE TV SERVICE OR SATELLITE

If you subscribe to a satellite service or a cable TV service which requires the use of a

converter/descrambler box, connect the incoming 75 ohm coaxial cable to the converter/descrambler box.

Using another 75 ohm cable, connect the output of the converter/descrambler or satellite box to the

antenna jack on the TV. Follow the connections shown below. Set this unit to the output channel of the

converter/descrambler or satellite box (usually 3 or 4) and use the converter/descrambler or satellite box

to select channels.

FOR SUBSCRIBERS TO UNSCRAMBLED BASIC CABLE TV SERVICE WITH

SCRAMBLED PREMIUM CHANNELS

If you subscribe to a satellite service or a cable TV service in which basic channels are unscrambled and

premium channels require the use of a converter/descrambler box, you may wish to use a signal splitter and

an A/B switch box (available from the cable company or an electronic supply store). Follow the connections

shown below. With the switch in the “B” position, you can directly tune any nonscrambled channels on your

TV. With the switch in the “A” position, tune your TV to the output of the converter/descrambler box (usually

channel 3 or 4) and use the converter/descrambler box to tune scrambled channels.

Connection Audio/Video In Jacks

The basic device (VCR, DVD player etc.) to TV connection is described below. For other

hookups, refer to your device's instruction manual.

Connect a yellow video cable to the VIDEO in jack on the rear of the TV and to the VIDEO OUT jack

on your VCR (or other component).

Connect an audio cable to the AUDIO in jack on the rear of the TV and to the AUDIO OUT of the VCR

(or other device). Match the cable color to the jack color.

Turn on the TV and the VCR.

Press the TV/AV button on the unit or the VIDEO button on the remote until VIDEO appears in the upper

right corner of the TV screen. When you play material on the VCR, DVD player, etc. that is connected

to the AUDIO and VIDEO jacks it will appear on the TV on the AV channel.

Helpful Hints:

• Audio and video cables are not supplied with the TV.

• Audio cables are usually red or white. Video cables are usually yellow.

• For the Audio In Jacks, they are not in stereo.

• Use a coaxial cable to connect the VCR’s ANTENNA OUT jack to the TV’s 75OHM ANTENNA

INPUT jack. Your VCR may not have audio and video out jacks, but only an RF or ANTENNA OUT jack.

Note:There is only one channel for both front and rear Audio/Video input, only input signal to the

front or rear A/V IN jacks to view it in the AV mode. Never input signal to both the front and rear A/V IN jacks

simultaneously.

If you connect the TV to a VCR or DVD for playback, or if you

connect a camcorder or Video Game System, you can make your

selection by pressing the TV/AV button on the front cabinet or

VIDEO button on remote control.

Press the TV/AV button on front cabinet or VIDEO button on remote

control repeatedly to select the desired mode.

VIDEO will display on the screen.

2. To connect the TV to a Video Game System

The TV can also be used as a display device for many video

games. However, due to the wide variety of different types of

signal generated by these devices and subsequent hook-up

variations required, they have not all been included in the

suggested connection diagrams. You'll need to consult each

component's Owner's Manual for additional information.

You can set the TV’s on-screen menu to English, French or

Spanish.

1. Press MENU to see the PICTURE main menu.

2. Press VOL+ or VOL- repeatedly to select the Setup menu.

3. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to select Language.

4. Press VOL+ or VOL- to select English, Francais (French),

or Espanol (Spanish).

5. Press MENU repeatedly to exit the menu or the menu will

automatically disappear within a few seconds if no buttons are

pressed on the remote control.

Note:

The language control only affects the language of the TV menus.

It does not change the other on-screen text features, such as

Closed Captions.

It is important for the TV to know what type of signal (Cable TV

(CATV) or a normal antenna) you are using. Choose your signal

(Antenna or Cable):

1. Press MENU to see the PICTURE main menu.

2. Press VOL+ or VOL- repeatedly to select the Search menu.

3. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to select TV/CATV.

4. Press VOL+ or VOL- to select TV or CATV. Choose CATV if

you have Cable TV service. (See page 7 for connection

details.) If you do not have Cable TV service and you

connected an antenna to the TV, choose TV. (See page 6 for

connection details.)

5. Press MENU repeatedly to exit the menu or the menu will

automatically disappear within a few seconds if no buttons are

pressed on the remote control.

Notes:

• When CATV is selected, channels 1-125 are available.

• When TV is selected, only channels 2-69 are available.

• You cannot select the SEARCH menu if the TV is set to a

video input channel (AV). Press TV/AV repeatedly to get to

regular TV programming.

Press MENU button to return to previous menu.

You can set your TV to receive local TV channels (from an

antenna) or Cable TV channels (when you have Cable TV

service). Then, use Auto Search to set up channels that are

available for you. This makes it easy for you to select only the

available TV stations when you press CH+ or CH-. Before you

start Auto Search, make the Antenna or Cable TV connection

described on pages 6 and 7. In the menu select TV or Cable

(CATV) as described on page 13.

1. Press MENU to see the PICTURE main menu.

2. Press VOL+ or VOL- repeatedly to select the Search menu.

3. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to select Auto Search.

4. Press VOL+ to start programming TV channels. Press VOL-

if you need to stop channel programming during the process.

When channel setup is completed, the TV will go to its lowest

channel.

Notes:

• Press CH+ or CH- to see which channels are in the TV’s

memory. You can also select channels that have not been

memorized using the number buttons on the remote control.

•To delete unwanted channels from the TV’s memory or to add

more channels, see Add/Erase on page 17.

•You cannot select the SEARCH menu if the TV is set to a

video input channel (AV). Press TV/AV repeatedly to get to

regular TV programming.

If you have selected TV(antenna) on the previous page, enter a

two-digit channel number. If you have selected CATV(cable TV),

enter a

three-digit channel number.

Manual Channel Setting

Manual Channel Tuning allows you to search for channels that

may have been missed during the Auto Search. For example, if

you are looking for a channel between 60 and 70, start the

search at channel 60 and go up.

1. Press MENU to see the PICTURE main menu.

2. Press VOL+ or VOL- repeatedly to select the Search menu.

. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to select TV/CATV.

4. Press VOL+ or VOL- to select TV or CATV (whichever you

have). Details are on page 13.

5. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to highlight Channel.

6. Press VOL+ or VOL- to enter the channel number at which

you want to begin the search. Then press CH+ or CH- repeatedly

7. Press VOL+ to start searching upward. During searching,

press VOL- to stop the searching when the channel is found.

Otherwise the search will stop at the first available channel.

Or, press VOL- to start searching downward.

During searching, press VOL+ to stop the searching when

the channel is found. Otherwise the search will stop at the first

available channel.

8. Press MENU repeatedly to exit the menu or the menu will

automatically disappear within a few seconds if no buttons are

pressed on the remote control.

Note:

•You cannot select the SEARCH menu if the TV is set to a

Favorite Channel Setting

You can store five channels you prefer into the Favorite

List and recall these channels easily by pressing the FAV

button on the remote control.

1. Press MENU to see the PICTURE main menu.

2. Press VOL+ or VOL- repeatedly to select the Search menu.

3. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to select Favorite List.

4. Press OK to display the features of Favorite List.

5. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to select TV/CATV.

6. Press VOL+ or VOL- to select TV or CATV (whichever you

have). Details are on page 13.

7. Press CH+ or CH- to select CH1 (the first channel position),

then press VOL+ or VOL- to enter a channel number you

want to store at this position, such as CATV 8. Repeat to set

the other four favorite channels.

8. Press MENU repeatedly to exit the menu or the menu will

automatically disappear within a few seconds if no buttons are

pressed on the remote control.

Note:

•You cannot select the SEARCH menu if the TV is set to a

video input channel (AV). Press TV/AV repeatedly to get to

regular TV programming.

Adding or Erasing Channels

You can add or erase channels from the list in the TV’s memory.

1. Press MENU to see the PICTURE main menu.

2. Press VOL+ or VOL- repeatedly to select the Search menu.

3. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to highlight Channel.

4. Press VOL+ or VOL- to enter the channel number you want

to add or erase.

5. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to highlight Add/Erase.

6. Press VOL+ or VOL- to choose Add or Erase. If you select

Add, the channel will be available when you press CH+ and

CH- to move through channels. Choosing Erase will remove

the channel from the TV’s memory. The channel will not be

available when you flip through channels with the CH+ and

CH- buttons.

7.Press MENU repeatedly to exit the menu or the menu will

automatically disappear within a few seconds if no buttons are

pressed on the remote control.

Notes:

• You cannot select the SEARCH menu if the TV is set to a

video input channel (AV). Press TV/AV repeatedly to get to

regular TV programming.

• You won’t see the change take effect until you scroll through

the channels in memory using the CH+/- buttons.

Picture Adjustments

To adjust your TV picture, select a channel and follow the steps

below:

1. Press MENU to see the PICTURE main menu.

2. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to highlight your choice:

Color, Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness, Tint, Blue Back

(background), Noise Red. (reduction), or Color. Temp

3. Press VOL+ or VOL- to increase or decrease the element

you choose. However, you can turn Blue Back to only On or

Off (see below). You can choose Warm, Cool or Normal

mode for color temperature.

4. Press MENU repeatedly to exit the menu or the menu will

automatically disappear within a few seconds if no buttons are

pressed on the remote control.

Notes:

• Color: Adjust to add or reduce color.

• Brightness: Adjust to brighten the darkest parts of the

picture.

• Contrast: Adjust the distinction between the black and white

parts of the picture.

• Sharpness: Improve picture detail.

• Tint: Obtain natural skin tones.

• Blue Back: Turn this option On or Off. If you choose On, a

solid blue background screen will appear if the TV is on a

weak channel (for example, if the reception is very poor or if

the station has gone off the air for the night). After being on

such a channel for 15 minutes, the TV will turn itself off

automatically.

Clock

Follow these steps to set your TV’s clock.

1. Press MENU to see the PICTURE main menu.

2. Press VOL+ or VOL- repeatedly to select the Time menu.

3. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to select Clock.

4. Press VOL+ or VOL- to change the time in minutes. Press

and hold VOL+ or VOL- to change the time quicky in 10

minute increments; press OK. The highlight moves to the

hour position. Use VOL+ or VOL- to set the hour.

5. Press MENU repeatedly to exit the menu or the menu will

automatically disappear within a few seconds if no buttons are

pressed on the remote control.

• If there is power failure, the clock will be reset and you will need

On-Timer

To turn on the TV to a specific channel at a specific time, use the

On-Timer. Before you begin, set the clock correctly. Details are

on page 19.

1. Press MENU to see the PICTURE main menu.

2. Press VOL+ or VOL- repeatedly to select the the Time menu.

3. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to highlight TV/CATV.

4. Press VOL+ or VOL- to select TV or CATV, depending on

whether you have Cable TV service or not. Details are on

page 13.

5. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to highlight Channel.

6. Press VOL+ or VOL- to enter the channel number. This will

be the channel to which the TV turns on at the specified time.

7. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to highlight On Time.

8. Press VOL+ or VOL- to select Once (or Daily, Off). If you

select Once, the timer will turn on the TV one time within the

next 24 hours only. If you select Daily, the timer will turn on

the TV at the same time and to the same channel every day.

Choose Off to cancel the On-timer.

9. Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to highlight 0:00 under the

line of On Time.

10.Press VOL+ or VOL- to enter the on time. Hold down VOL+

or VOL- to change the time quickly in 10 minute increments;

press OK. The hour is highlighted. Use VOL+ or VOL- to set

the hour. This will be the time at which the TV will turn itself

on.

11.Press MENU repeatedly to exit the menu or the menu will

automatically disappear within a few seconds if no buttons are

pressed on the remote control.
