3. Placing Orioles within your Bra
1. The Orioles pumpset can be worn in a regular
nursing bra. If you find it uncomfortable or painful
during use, try switching to a loser, more stretchy
nursing bra.
2. The Orioles can be used in an vertical or slightly
tilted position for better nipple visibility and milk
ejection. Please note that when the Orioles is worn
at an angle you may fine that the scale is
inaccurate. Your bra will hold the collection cup in
place. Ensure that the tubing is placed outside your
bra so that it is not pinched or bent during use.
3. Make sure you achieve a good seal between
Orioles and your skin.
Ensure that the nipple is centered in the tunnel of
the breast shield.

2. Important safety information
Before using this product for pumping, please read your Medela
compatible personal use pump Instructions for Use for additional
important safety information.
Warnings identify all Instructions for Use that are important for safety. Failure to
observe these Instructions for Use can lead to personal injury or damage to the
product. The following symbols and signal words show the significance of the warnings:

Information
WARNING
To avoid health risks and reduce the risk of severe injury:
• The Hands-free Collection Cups are a single-user product. Use by more than
one person may present a health risk and voids the warranty.
• Wash all parts that come into contact with your breast and breast milk after
every use.
• The tubing poses a risk of strangulation when played with and small parts may
be swallowed by toddlers. Close supervision is necessary when the Hands-free
Collection Cups are used in the vicinity of children.
CAUTION
To avoid fire or burns:
• The Hands-free Collection Cups and accessories are not heat-resistant. Keep
away from heated surfaces or open flames.
• Do not use near flammable materials.
To avoid health risks and reduce the risk of injury:
• Before each use visually inspect the individual components for cracks, chips,
tears, discoloration or deterioration. In the event that damage to the device is
observed, please discontinue use until the parts have been replaced.
• This product cannot be serviced or repaired. Do not repair yourself. Do not modify
the device.
• Never use a damaged device. Replace defective or worn parts.
• Use the Hands-free Collection Cups only for their intended use as described in
these Instructions for Use.
• If tubing becomes moldy, discontinue use and replace tubing.
• Do not microwave or boil breast milk. Microwaving can cause severe burns to a
baby’s mouth from hot spots that develop in the milk during microwaving.
Microwaving or boiling can also change the composition of breast milk.

CAUTION
• Clean and sanitize all parts that come into contact with your breast and breast milk
prior to first use.
• Use only with Medela compatible personal use pumps.
• If pumping is uncomfortable or causes pain, turn the pump unit off, break the
seal between the breast and the breast shield with your finger and remove the
breast shield from your breast.
• Choose the correct breast shield size for pumping. Using an unsuitable breast
shield size may cause pain, discomfort and reduction in milk flow.

specialist who can assist with fit or if you can express only minimal or no milk or if
expression is painful. See chapter7.1 for more information.
3. Intended use
3.1.1 Indications for use
The Hands-free Collection Cups reusable set is intended to be used by lactating
women for expressing breast milk with the Medela double electric personal use
breast pumps (Freestyle™, Pump in Style®, Swing Maxi™ / Duo). The pump set is a
single-user product.
3.1.2 Contraindications
There are no known contraindications for the Hands-free Collection Cups.
4. Product description
Refer to figure ¢1 on Chapter 1.

actual product may vary due to local differences or product enhancement. Medela
reserves the right to substitute any component or accessory with a replacement of
equivalent performance.
5. Disassembling your Hands-free Collection
Cups
Refer to figure ¢2 on Chapter 1.
1. ¢2-01 Open the collection cup using the tab at the bottom.
2. ¢2-02 Remove the yellow membrane from the breast shield.
6. Cleaning
It is important you do the following before using your Hands-free Collection Cups
for the first time: Disassemble all parts & clean following cleaning instructions.

Supplies needed:
• Dish washing liquid
• Clean soft brush
• Clean wash basin or dishwasher
• Drinking-quality water
• Clean pot for boiling water
Parts to wash and sanitize:
• Breast shields (with O-ring)
• Outer shells
• Yellow membranes

CAUTION
Separate and wash all parts that are exposed to breast milk immediately after use.
This will help to remove breast milk residue and prevent growth of bacteria.
• Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
• Only use drinking-quality tap water or bottled water for cleaning.
• Do not place the Hands-free Collection Cups’ parts directly in a sink to rinse or
wash. Use a clean wash basin used only for infant items.
• Do not use a dish towel to rub or pat items dry.
• Do not use disinfectants for cleaning.
NOTICE
Medela personal use breast pump has a
closed system so milk cannot get into the
tubing when the pump is used as instructed.
Do not clean or rinse the tubing under any
circumstance.
• Inspect the tubing before use. If you find
condensation, breast milk or mold in the
tubing, discontinue use and replace
tubing. Refer to chapter 10 for ordering
information.
• Do not run your breast pump with wet
tubing; doing so will cause damage to
your breast pump.
NOTICE
Pay attention to the following:
• Take care not to damage parts of the Hands-free Collection Cups during
cleaning.
• Store the dry Hands-free Collection Cups in a clean bag/container until next use.
• Do not store wet or damp parts as mold may develop.
• If you notice a white residue on your parts after boiling, your water may have a
high mineral content. Remove residue by wiping parts with a clean towel and
allow to air dry.
• Distilled water is recommended when boiling parts to prevent substantial
mineral build-up over time, which may compromise your parts.
6.1 Cleaning overview
Washing and sanitizing are two different activities. They must be done separately to
protect you and your baby, and to maintain the performance of your breast pump.
Wash – To clean the surfaces of the parts by physically removing milk residues and
other possible contaminants.
Sanitize – To efficiently lower the number of germs that may be present on the
surfaces of the washed parts.

6.2 Washing

Do not store parts in an airtight container/bag if moist. It is important that all
residual moisture dries.
7.
Assembling your Hands-free Collection Cups
Only use clean and dry parts for assembly. Refer to chapter 6 for cleaning
instructions.
7.1 Selecting the correct breast shield size
Make sure to use the correct breast shield size. The breast shield is an essential
component for effective pumping, helping to optimize milk flow.
Refer to figure ¢5 on Chapter 1.
1. ¢5-01 Select the breast shield size by measuring the diameter of your nipple.
2. ¢5-02 Select the breast shield size that is slightly larger than your nipple.
21mm (without the O-ring) and 24mm (already applied with the O-ring) size
breast shields are included in the pack. 27mm size breast shield is available for
purchase. See chapter 10 for ordering information.
7.2 Assembling the Hands-free Collection Cups
Only use clean and dry parts for assembly. Refer to chapter 6 for cleaning.
Parts needed:
• Tubing
• Breast shield (with the O-ring)
• Yellow membrane
• Outer shell

CAUTION
To prevent contamination of your milk:
• Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching your breast pump,
parts of the Hands-free Collection Cups and breasts.
• Dry your hands with a fresh towel or a single-use paper towel.
• Avoid touching the inside of the Hands-free Collection Cups components.
To ensure proper and safe function of your breast pump:
• Check the Hands-free Collection Cups’ components for wear or damage before
use. Replace if necessary.
• Always inspect all parts prior to use for cleanliness. If dirty, clean according to
chapter 6.
• Only use genuine Medela parts. See chapter 10 for details.
To prevent damage to the breast pump, all components must be completely dry
before use.
Refer to figure ¢6 on Chapter 1.
1. ¢6-01 Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching your
breast pump, parts of the Hands-free Collection Cups and breasts. Dry your
hands with a clean towel.
2. ¢6-02 Confirm that the O-ring is applied to the breast shield.
3. ¢6-03 Assemble the valve of the yellow membrane on the front of the breast
shield.
4. ¢6-04 Align the disc of the yellow membrane on the designated circular slot
using the alignment tab at the top to ensure that it is at the right place. Press
around the edges to make sure it is fully assembled.
5. ¢6-05 Insert the pouring spout into the opening on the shield.
6. ¢6-06 Push the outer shell and breast shield together tightly, ensuring it is fully
sealed all the way around until you hear a snapping sound.
7. ¢6-07 Connect the flat ends of tubing to your Hands-free Collection Cups.

O-ring fits all breast shield sizes. To disassemble and assemble the O-ring to a
different size of breast shield follow the guidance below.
If you would like to use a different size of breast shield, disassemble the already
applied O-ring from the 24 mm breast shield starting by pulling out the bottom tab
(as shown in the left imagine below) from the breast shield. To reassemble the O-ring
to a different size of breast shield, start from the top (as shown on the right imagine
below) of the breast shield, stretch it over the outer edge of the breast shield. Ensure it
goes on with the ridges facing outwards. Press along the groove, checking that it is in
place all the way around.

7.3 Preparing for pumping
Refer to figure ¢7 on Chapter 1.
1. Assemble the Hands-free Collection Cups as described in chapter 7.2.
¢7-01 Connect the round ends of the tubing to your compatible Medela
personal use pump’s tubing. For Instructions for Use on how to single or double
pump, refer to your Medela compatible personal use pumps instruction for use.
7.4 Placing the Hands-free Collection Cups within your bra
Refer to figure ¢8 on Chapter 1.
1. ¢8-01 Ensure that the nipple is centered in the tunnel of the breast shield.
2. ¢8-02 The Hands-free Collection Cups can be worn under your regular
nursing bra. Your bra will hold the Hands-free Collection Cups in place. If you
find it uncomfortable or painful during use, try switching to a looser, more
stretchy nursing bra.
3. ¢8-03 The tubing can be connected facing inwards (towards the breasts) or
outwards (towards the arms) based on personal preference. Ensure that the
tubing is not pinched or bent during use.
4. ¢8-04 The Hands-free Collection Cups can be used in a vertical or slightly
tilted position for better visibility of the nipple and milk ejection. The scale on
the Hands-free Collection Cups give you an approximate indication of the
volume during pumping.
8. Handling of breast milk
8.1 Removing the Hands-free Collection Cups from your bra
i Information
To avoid milk spilling out of the tunnel, when finished, keep the pump running and
slightly lean forward to ensure all the milk inside the breast shield tunnel empties
into the collection cups.
Refer to figure ¢9 on Chapter 1.
1. ¢9-01 While the pump is still running, slightly lean forward and ensure all milk
from the nipple tunnel enters the collection container. Next, turn off pump.
2. ¢9-02 Detach the tubing from the Hands-free Collection Cups.
3. ¢9-03 Carefully remove the Hands-free Collection Cups from your bra.
8.2 Pouring milk from Hands-free Collection Cups
Refer to figure ¢9 on Chapter 1.
1. ¢9-04 Place the Hands-free Collection Cups in an upright position on a
surface where they will not be easily knocked over.
2. ¢9-05 With the rounded outer shell facing down, pour breast milk through
the pouring spout into a bottle or container for storage. Do not use the
Hands-free Collection Cups to store milk. Do not store assembled collection
cups in the refrigerator.
3. Fully disassemble and clean after each use and sanitize once per day as
described in chapter 5 and chapter 6.

8.3 General storage guidelines

8.4 Long-term storage
Before long-term storage, disassemble and sanitize all parts (except for the tubing).
Do not store the Hands-free Collection Cups in assembled state over an extended
period of time.
9. Troubleshooting
Problem Solution
There is low
or no suction
• Make sure that all the Hands-free Collection Cups components
are clean and dry and that connections are secure.
• Confirm that the O-ring is applied on the breast shield to
ensure the suction.
• While pumping, make sure the breast shields form a complete
seal around the breast.
• Refer to the Troubleshooting section in your Medela’s personal
use pump instruction for use.

11. Warranty
For US/CA only
This product is warranted by Medela LLC, to the original retail purchaser to be free from
defects in material and workmanship for the period of 90 days from the date of
purchase. Warranty can only be claimed in the country of purchase. In the event of
defect, at Medela’s option, Medela will replace this product, without charge for such
replacement parts. Purchaser shall bear all expense for returning this product to Medela.
This warranty does not apply to any product used commercially or which has been

Avant d’utiliser ce produit pour exprimer votre lait, veuillez lire le mode
d’emploi de votre tire-lait personnel compatible Medela pour obtenir des
informations de sécurité supplémentaires importantes.
Un avertissement désigne toute indication d’emploi importante pour la sécurité. Le
non-respect de ce mode d’emploi peut provoquer des blessures corporelles ou
endommager le produit. Les symboles et mots indicateurs suivants montrent

Pour éviter les risques sanitaires et réduire les risques de blessures graves:
• Le collecteur mains-libres doit être utilisé par une seule personne. L’utilisation du
même appareil par plusieurs personnes présente des risques pour la santé et
entraîne l’annulation de la garantie.
• Lavez toutes les pièces qui entrent en contact avec le sein et le lait maternel
après chaque utilisation.
• Ne laissez aucun enfant jouer avec la tubulure, car elle présente un risque
d’étranglement. Les enfants en bas âge risquent aussi d’avaler de petites
pièces. Une surveillance étroite s’impose lorsque les collecteurs mains-libres
sont utilisés à proximité d’enfants.
MISE EN GARDE
Pour éviter les risques d’incendie ou de brûlures graves:
• Les collecteurs mains-libres et leurs accessoires ne résistent pas à la chaleur.
Maintenez-les à distance des surfaces chaudes et des flammes nues.
• Évitez de les utiliser près de matériaux inflammables.
Pour éviter les risques sanitaires et réduire les risques de blessures:
• Avant chaque utilisation, inspectez visuellement les différents composants pour
détecter les fissures, les éclats, les déchirures, la décoloration ou la
détérioration. En cas d’endommagement de l’appareil, veuillez cesser de
l’utiliser jusqu’à ce que les pièces aient été remplacées.
• Cet appareil ne peut être ni entretenu ni réparé. Ne réparez pas l’appareil
vous-même. Ne modifiez pas l’appareil.
• N’utilisez jamais un appareil endommagé. Remplacez les pièces défectueuses
ou usées.
• Utilisez les collecteurs mains-libres uniquement pour l’usage prévu décrit dans ce
mode d’emploi.
• Si la tubulure présente de la moisissure, cessez l’utilisation et remplacez la tubulure.
• Ne réchauffez pas le lait maternel au four à micro-ondes et ne le faites pas
bouillir. L’utilisation d’un four à micro-ondes génère des zones brûlantes dans le
lait qui risquent de provoquer de graves brûlures dans la bouche du bébé.
L’utilisation d’un four à micro-ondes ou l’ébullition risquent également de
modifier la composition du lait maternel.

• Nettoyez et désinfectez toutes les pièces qui entrent en contact avec le sein et le lait
maternel avant la première utilisation.
• À utiliser uniquement avec les tire-laits Medela à usage personnel compatibles.
• Si l’expression est désagréable ou douloureuse, arrêtez le moteur du tire-lait et
insérez un doigt entre le sein et la téterelle pour les séparer. Retirez ensuite la
téterelle du sein.
• Choisissez la bonne taille de téterelle pour exprimer votre lait. L’utilisation d’une
taille de téterelle inadaptée peut provoquer douleur, gêne et réduction de
l’écoulement de lait. Rendez-vous sur
www.medela.ca/fr/allaitement/meres-parcours/tailles-teterelle ou
adressez-vous à une consultante en lactation ou une spécialiste en allaitement qui
vous aidera à trouver la bonne taille, si vous n’exprimez que très peu de lait, voire,
pas du tout ou si l’expression est douloureuse. Consultez le chapitre7.1 pour plus
d’informations.
3. Utilisation prévue
3.1.1 Consignes d’utilisation
L’ensemble réutilisable de collecteurs mains-libres est destiné à être utilisé par les
femmes allaitantes pour exprimer leur lait maternel à l’aide des tire-laits électriques
doubles à usage personnel de Medela (Freestyle™, Pump in Style®, SwingMaxi™ /
Duo). L’ensemble pour tire-lait doit être utilisé par une seule personne.
3.1.2 Contre-indications
Il n’existe aucune contre-indication connue aux collecteurs mains-libres.
4. Description du produit
Reportez-vous à la figure ¢1 du chapitre 1.

uniquement. Le produit réel peut varier en raison de différences locales ou
d’amélioration du produit. Medela se réserve le droit de substituer n’importe quel
composant ou accessoire par un autre élément de performance équivalente.
5. Démontage de vos collecteurs mains-libres
Reportez-vous à la figure ¢2 du chapitre 1.
1. ¢2-01 Ouvrez le collecteur à l’aide de la languette située en bas.
2. ¢2-02 Retirez la membrane jaune de la téterelle.
6. Nettoyage
Avant d’utiliser vos collecteurs mains-libres pour la première fois, il est important de
faire ce qui suit: Démontez toutes les pièces et nettoyez-les en suivant les
instructions de nettoyage. Pour plus de directives de nettoyage, consultez le site
Web du Center for Disease Control (en anglais):

Démontez et lavez toutes les pièces exposées au lait maternel immédiatement
après usage. Ce procédé aidera à enlever les résidus de lait maternel et évitera la
prolifération de bactéries.
• Lavez-vous soigneusement les mains au savon et à l’eau.
• Utilisez uniquement de l’eau du robinet potable ou en bouteille pour le nettoyage.
• Ne placez pas les pièces des collecteurs mains-libres directement dans l’évier
pour les rincer ou les laver. Utilisez une bassine propre servant uniquement pour
les articles du nourrisson.
• N’utilisez pas un linge à vaisselle pour essuyer les pièces.
• N’utilisez pas de désinfectant pour nettoyer.
AVIS
Le tire-lait Medela à usage personnel est doté
d’un système fermé qui empêche le lait de
pénétrer dans la tubulure lorsque le tire-lait
est utilisé conformément aux instructions. Ne
jamais nettoyer ou rincer la tubulure.
• Inspectez la tubulure avant utilisation. Si
vous constatez de la condensation, du lait
maternel ou de la moisissure dans la
tubulure, cessez de l’utiliser et remplacez
la tubulure. Consultez le chapitre10 Pour
en savoir davantage sur la commande
d’accessoires.
• Ne faites pas fonctionner le tire-lait
lorsque la tubulure est mouillée au risque
d’endommager le tire-lait.

Portez attention aux points suivants:
• Veillez à ne pas endommager les pièces des collecteurs mains-libres lors du nettoyage.
• Rangez les collecteurs mains-libres secs dans un sac ou récipient propre jusqu’à
la prochaine utilisation.
• Ne rangez pas les pièces lorsqu’elles sont mouillées ou humides, car cela
favorise le développement de moisissures.
• Si vous remarquez un résidu blanc sur vos pièces après les avoir fait bouillir, il se
peut que votre eau ait une forte teneur en minéraux. Enlevez les résidus en
essuyant les pièces avec un linge propre et laissez-les sécher à l’air.
• Il est recommandé d’utiliser de l’eau distillée pour faire bouillir les pièces afin
d’empêcher l’accumulation de minéraux au fil du temps, ce qui peut abîmer vos pièces.
6.1 Vue d’ensemble du processus de nettoyage
Le nettoyage et la désinfection sont deux procédés différents. Ils doivent être
réalisés séparément pour vous protéger ainsi que votre bébé, et pour assurer
l’efficacité de votre tire-lait.
Nettoyage – Laver les surfaces des pièces élimine physiquement les résidus de lait
ou d’autres contaminants potentiels.
Désinfection – Cette étape réduit efficacement le nombre de microbes, qui peuvent
être présents sur les surfaces des pièces lavées.
