moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.
3. Do not overreach when operating the tool. Proper footing and
balance enables better control in unexpected situations.
4. Support the workpiece or clamp it to a stable platform. Holding the
workpiece by hand or against your body may lead to personal injury.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. This hot knife can create heat up to approximately 450
o
C (840
o
F).
Always keep fingers, hands, body, and clothing away from heated
components of this tool.
2. Do not allow any objects (liquid or metal) to fall into the heat
block holes of the tool. Doing so can cause a short circuit and/or
electric shock.
3. Do not lay the hot knife down on a flammable surface. Use and lay
this tool on a fireproof work surface only.
4. Use the tool for its intended task.
5. In case of emergency, keep a fire extinguisher close by while using
the tool.
6. Only use the tool in a dry area free from flammable materials as well
as fumes and liquids.
7. Protect yourself from hot metal. Wear oil free clothing, protective
gloves and protective eyewear in case of unexpected situations.
8. Never swing the tool to loosen any buildup. Remove excess buildup
from the blade by wiping the blade with a damp cloth or sponge, or
use a solder brush designed for cleaning excess buildup.
9. The blade will remain hot for a few minutes after use. Always rest
the tool on a stand where heat from the blade cannot damage
nearby items.
10. Remove all flammable materials from the work area before beginning
to use the tool.
Visit www.princessauto.com for more information 5
8571515 130 Watt Electric Hot Knife V4.0
11. Do not inhale fumes or smoke while using the hot knife. The
workpiece material may have chemicals or metals that may be
poisonous if inhaled.
12. After using the hot knife, unplug the power cord and allow the blade
to cool down before storing the soldering iron in a dry place out of
the reach of children.
CAUTION! Never leave the hot knife unattended.
13. Do not use in the fabrication or repair of potable water
service systems.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
1. Disconnect power supply. Disconnect the tool from the power supply
when not in use, before cleaning, servicing or changing any parts
or accessories.
2. Protect yourself against electric shocks when working on electrical
equipment. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as
pipes, radiators, cooking stoves and refrigerators. There is an
increased chance of electrical shock if your body is grounded.
3. Double insulated tools are equipped with a polarized plug (one blade
is wider than the other.) This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only
one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If
it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized
outlet. Do not change the plug in any way. Double insulation
eliminates the need for a three wire grounded power cord and
grounded power supply system.
6 For technical questions call 1-800-665-8685
V4.0 130 Watt Electric Hot Knife 8571515
4. Grounded tools must be plugged into an outlet that is properly
installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances.
Never remove the grounding prong or modify the plug in any way. Do
not use any adapter plugs. Check with a qualified electrician if you are
in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. If the tool
should electronically malfunction or break down, grounding provides
a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the user.
5. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord to carry tools or pull the
plug from an outlet. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges
or moving parts. Do not operate this tool if the power cord is frayed
or damaged. Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords
increase the risk of electric shock. Do not modify the plug in any way.
6. When operating a power tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord
marked “W-A” or “W”. These cords are rated for outdoor use and
reduce the risk of electric shock. Use in conjunction with a Ground
Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). If operating a power tool in a damp
location is unavoidable, the use of a GFCI reduces the risk of electric
shock. It is recommended that the GFCI should have a rated residual
current of 30 mA or less.
7. Avoid using an unnecessarily long extension cord. Choose a cord that
is appropriate for the situation, as a cord that is too long and running
across the floor can be more dangerous than helpful. Using a cord
that is too long or too thin could damage the tool. Unroll the cord
completely to prevent it from overheating.
8. Place the electrical cord in a position that prevents it from coming
into contact with the tool and from getting caught by the work piece.
The cord should always stay behind the tool.
WARNING! People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s)
before using this product. Operations of electrical equipment in close
proximity to a heart pacemaker could cause interference or failure of
the pacemaker.
Visit www.princessauto.com for more information 7
8571515 130 Watt Electric Hot Knife V4.0
LOW VOLTAGE
Low voltage may cause overheating due to higher power current being
drawn to the tool that will shorten the motor life.
An extension cord may cause a drop in power to the tool if it is too long
or the amperage rating is not correct. This may result in the following:
1. The tool will not activate when switched on.
2. The tool may switch on, but fails to maintain power when applied to
a workpiece.
3. The tool may overheat, possibly starting a fire.
Test the tool by plugging it directly to the power supply. If it powers on,
change the extension cord with the correct rating and as short as needed.
The workpiece may also need to be relocated closer to the power supply.
USE AND CARE OF THE TOOL
WARNING! Do not use the tool if the On /Off switch does not function
properly. Any tool that cannot be controlled with the ON / OFF switch is
dangerous and must be repaired.
1. Use the correct tool for the job. Maximize performance and safety by
using the tool for its intended task.
2. Do not modify this tool or use for a purpose for which it was
not designed.
3. This tool was designed for a specific function.
Do Not:
a. Modify or alter the tool, all parts and accessories are designed
with built-in safety features that may be compromised if altered.
b. Use the tool in a way for which it was not designed.
4. Avoid unintentional starts. Be sure the On /Off switch is in the
OFF position when not in use and before connecting it to any
power source.
