Before use
Read this before attempting any operations
< A
s the unit may become warm during operation, always leave
sufficient space around the unit for ventilation.
T
he ventilation holes should not be covered. Make sure there is
at least 20 cm of space above and at least 5 cm of space on each
side of the unit. Do NOT place anything on top of the unit.
< T
he voltage supplied to the unit should match the voltage as
printed on the rear panel. If you are in any doubt regarding this
matter, consult an electrician.
< C
hoose the installation location of your unit carefully. Avoid
placing it in direct sunlight or close to a source of heat. Also
avoid locations subject to vibrations and excessive dust, heat,
cold or moisture.
< D
o not place the unit on the amplifier/receiver.
< D
o not open the cabinet as this might result in damage to the
circuitry or electrical shock. If a foreign object should get into the
unit, contact your dealer or service company.
< W
hen removing the power plug from the wall outlet, always pull
directly on the plug, never yank the cord.
< Do not attempt to clean the unit with chemical solvents as this
might damage the finish. Use a clean, dry or slightly damp cloth.

<By pressing the STANDBY/ON button of A-H380, you can switch

hen you press the PLAY button of a source, the INPUT

Speaker Connection

heck the impedance of your speakers. Connect speaker with an
impedance of more than 6 ohms.
< The red speaker terminals are + (positive) and the black speaker
terminals are _ (negative).

enerally, the + side of the speaker cable is marked to make
it distinguishable from the _ side of the cable. Connect the
marked side to the + terminal and the unmarked side to the
black _ terminal.
< T
he metal portions of the two separate wires should not touch
or an electrical short can occur. Shorted wires can create a fire
hazard or induce a failure in your equipment.
< B
e sure to insert each plug securely. To prevent hum and noise,
avoid bundling the signal interconnection cables together with
the AC power cord or speaker cables.
How to connect:
1
. Turn the terminal cap counterclockwise to loosen it. The speaker
terminal caps cannot be fully removed from the base.
2
. Insert the wire into the terminal fully and turn the terminal cap
clockwise to securely connect it:
Make sure none of the wire insulation is under the terminal, only
the bare, stripped wire.
3. Make sure it is fastened firmly by pulling the cable lightly.

LINE IN/OUT jacks
These jacks transmit an analog 2-channel audio signal. Connect
the components using RCA cables.
Make sure to connect the cables as follows:
white plug q white jack (L: left channel)
red plug q red jack (R: right channel)
< Be sure to insert each plug securely. To prevent hum and noise,
avoid bundling the signal interconnection cables together with
the AC power cord or speaker cables.

PHONO jacks
Connect the turntable’s RCA pin cord to the PHONO jacks.
Make sure to connect the cables as follows:

the AC power cord or speaker cables.

SIGNAL GND
Connect the ground lead of the turntable to this terminal.
< This is not a safety earth.

AC OUTLET
You can connect the AC power cord of your component.
This outlet is active only when the unit is on or standby. When
the unit is off, the outlet is inactive.
Caution:
Make sure that the total power consumption of all equipment
connected to this outlet does not exceed 100 watts (or 500mA).

Use only the supplied power cord.
< Use of other power cord may result in fire or electric shock.
< Unplug the power cord when you are not going to use the unit
for an extended period of time.

iPod port
Connect the DS-20 iPod dock (option) to this port.
<Make sure the label A side of the plug is up.
<Securely insert the plug until a slight “click” is heard.
To disconnect the Dock:
Squeeze both sides of the plug and pull.
Compatible iPod Software
In case your iPod will not work with the A-H380 or with the
remote control unit, software update may solve the problem.
Visit the Apple website and download the latest iPod Software.
iPod is a trademark of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other
countries.

VIDEO OUT terminal
This terminal outputs video signal from iPod. Use a composite
video cable to connect the Dock to the composite video
connector of a television or monitor.

S-VIDEO OUT terminal
This terminal outputs S-video signal from iPod. Use an S-
video cable to connect the Dock to the S-video input of a
suitably equipped television or monitor. Use this connection in
preference to a composite video connection.

Press this switch to turn the unit standby or off.
If you use the system control function, set this switch on, and turn
on/standby the system using the remote control unit.
The standby indicator is orange when the unit is in the standby
mode. When the unit is turned on, the indicator is blue.

Remote Control Unit Basic Operation
The amplifier and Reference 380 series connected by remote
control cords can be operated by the provided remote control
unit.
When operating the remote control unit, point it towards the
REMOTE SENSOR on the front panel of the A-H380.
< E
ven if the remote control unit is operated within the effective
range, remote control operation may be impossible if there are
any obstacles between the unit and the remote control.
< I
f the remote control unit is operated near other appliances which
generate infrared rays, or if other remote control devices using
infrared rays are used near the unit, it may operate incorrectly.
Conversely, the other appliances may operate incorrectly.
Battery Installation

Remove the battery compartment cover.

Insert two “AAA” (R03, UM-4) dry batteries. Make sure that the
batteries are inserted with their positive “+” and negative “_”
poles positioned correctly.

. Close the cover.
Battery Replacement
If the distance required between the remote control unit and
main unit decreases, the batteries are exhausted. In this case
replace the batteries with new ones.
Precautions concerning batteries
< B
e sure to insert the batteries with correct positive “+” and
negative “_” polarities.
< U
se batteries of the same type. Never use different types of
batteries together.
< R
echargeable and non-rechargeable batteries can be used. Refer
to the precautions on their labels.
< W
hen the remote control unit is not to be used for a long time
(more than a month), remove the batteries from the remote
control unit to prevent them from leaking. If they leak, wipe
away the liquid inside the battery compartment and replace the
batteries with new ones.
< D
o not heat or disassemble batteries and never dispose of old
batteries by throwing them in a fire.

Press the power switch to turn the unit on.
When you use the system control function, and when you use
the daily timer or the sleep timer of the T-H380, set this switch on,
and turn the system on/standby using the remote control unit.
The Standby/On indicator turns from orange to blue.

Select a source by turning the INPUT SELECTOR knob (or pressing
one of the INPUT SELECTOR buttons of the remote control unit).

Turn this knob to adjust the level of low frequency sound range.
The position of flat is center.

Normally, set the knob to the center position.

Tone Direct
When this button is pressed, the tone and balance control is
bypassed. Press it again to turn to normal.

While muting is engaged, the pointer of the VOLUME knob

Dimmer
You can dim the display of the T-H380 and PD-H380, when
the REMOTE CONTROL jacks of these units and the A-H380 are
connected with the remote control connection cord.

his setting is not memorized when the unit turns standby/on.
The next time the unit turn on, the display is illuminated as
normal.

hen the unit is operated during the setting is “display off“, the
display turns normal for 3 seconds.

Listening to iPod

Select “iPod“ by turing the INPUT SELECTOR knob (or
pressing the iPod button button of the remote control
unit).

Insert the iPod into the Dock.
The iPod automatically turns on and starts playback from the
iPod’s music list.
When the iPod is inserted during the INPUT SELECTOR is set to
other source, the iPod will turn on and enter the pause mode.
< M
ake sure to use an appropriate Dock adapter (see “Getting
started with iPod”).
<The iPod battery will be fully recharged when the iPod is docked
and the A-H380 is on or standby.
<When headphones are plugged into the iPod, sound comes from
both the speakers of the A-H380 and the headphones.
To pause playback
During playback, press the play/pause button (G/J) to pause
playback. Playback stops at the current position.
To resume playback, press the play/pause button (G/J).
To skip to the next or a previous track/file
During playback, press the skip button (.//) repeatedly
until the desired track is found.
<When the .button is pressed during playback, the track being
played will be played from the beginning. If you want to play the
previous tracks, press the .button twice or more.

Search for a part of a track
During playback, hold down the skip button(.//) and
release it when the part you want to listen to is found.
To go back to the previous menu
Press the MENU button to go back to the previous menu.
This button is equivalent to the MENU button on your iPod.
Select the menu item
Press the scroll button (m/,, °/‡) of the remote control
unit to scroll to the menu item you want, and then press the
ENTER button.
Repeat playback
Every time the REPEAT 1/ALL button is pressed, the mode is changed
as follows:
When you select the “One”, the Repeat One icon ( ) appears in
the iPod’s display.
When you select the “All”, the Repeat icon ( ) appears in the
iPod’s display.
Shuffle playback
During playback, press the SHUFFLE button to change the shuffle
mode.
When you select “Song“, the iPod shuffles songs within the list
you choose to play.
When you select “Album“, the iPod plays all the songs on an
album in order, and then rondomly selects another album in the
list and plays through it in order.
<During playback, the Shuffle icon ( ) appears in the iPod’s
display.

Troubleshooting
If you experience any problems with the unit, please take a moment
to look through this chart and see if you can solve the problem
yourself before you call your dealer or a TEAC service center.
Amplifier section
No power
e C
heck the connection to the AC power source. Check and
make sure the AC source is not a switched outlet and if it is, the
switch is turned on.Make sure there is power to the AC outlet
by plugging another item such as a lamp or fan.
No sound.
e A
djust the volume by turning the VOLUME knob.
e C
heck that the speakers and components are connected
securely.
e C
heck the operation of the connected component.
e S
elect the proper source using the INPUT SELECTOR.
Sound cuts off when listening to the music or no sound even
though power is ON.
e S
peaker impedance is less than prescribed for this unit.
e T
urn the power off and reduce the volume.
Low bass response.
e Speaker polarity (+/–) is reversed. Check all speakers for correct
polarity.
BASE, TEBLE, BALANCE knobs does not work.

ress the TONE DIRECT button to cancel it.
Right and left channel is reversed.
e The input connection or the speaker connection may be
reversed.
The sound is noisy.

he cableconnection cord may be close to the power cord or
the fluorescent light.
The Sound comes from only a channel.

Remote control unit
Remote control doesn’t work.

f the batteries are exhausted, change the batteries.
eUse remote control unit within the range (5m) and point at the
front panel.
eMake sure that there are no obstacles between the remote
control unit and the main unit.
eIf a fluorescent light is near the unit, turn it off.
Can not operate the iPod on the components.
eSelect the source to be operated by the remote control unit
before operation.
iPod Player
Cannot insert the iPod.
eCheck appropriate adapter is inserted to the Dock.
eRemove dust or obstacles from the Dock connector and the
iPod, and insert the iPod again.
Will not play.
eRemove the iPod from the dock, wait a few seconds, and insert
it again.
eSoftware update may solve the problem. Visit the Apple website
and download the latest iPod Software.
Can not operate the iPod.
eMake sure the HOLD switch of the iPod isn’t set to HOLD.
If normal operation cannot be recovered, unplug the power
cord from the outlet and plug it again.
Maintenance
If the surface of the unit gets dirty, wipe with a soft cloth or
use diluted neutral cleaning liquid. Be sure to remove any fluid
completely. Do not use thinner, benzine or alcohol as they may
damage the surface of the unit.
Docking an iPod to this system
iPod video output
< M
ake the following settings on your iPod's menu to output
video to a TV via this system's dock.
I
n the [Video] menu, select [Video Settings]. Set [TV OUT] to
[On] or [Ask].
I
f you have set [TV OUT] to [Ask], your iPod prompts you each
time you play a video to specify whether to output it to a TV.
NOTE:
I
f you output video to a TV from your iPod, the video is not
displayed on the iPod's screen.
iPod touch does not contain this menu. You will have to
specify whether to a output video to a TV each time you play
it.

’appareil pouvant dégager de la chaleur lorsqu’il fonctionne,
laissez un espace suffisant autour de l’appareil afin de permettre
une ventilation naturelle. Ne pas obstruer les orifices de
ventilation. Laissez au moins 20 cm de libre au-dessus et au
moins 5 cm de chaque côté de l’appareil.

e placez RIEN au-dessus de l’appareil.
< La tension d'alimentation utilisée doit être identique à la tension
indiquée sur la plaque à l'arrière de l'appareil. En cas de doute,
n'hésitez pas à consulter un électricien.

hoisissez soigneusement l'endroit où vous installerez l'appareil.
Evitez de le placer dans un endroit exposé directement aux
rayons solaires ou à proximité d'une source de chaleur. Evitez
également les endroits soumis à des vibrations ou exposés à la
poussière, à la chaleur, au froid et à l'humidité.

e placez pas l'appareil sur l'amplificateur ou le récepteur.

’ouvrez jamais l'appareil pour ne pas endommager les circuits
ou vous exposer à un risque d’électrocution. Au cas où un objet
tomberait par inadvertance dans l'appareil, contactez votre
revendeur ou la société chargée de la maintenance.

our débrancher le cordon d’alimentation de la prise murale,
tirez directement sur la prise, ne tirez jamais sur le cordon.
< N’essayez pas de nettoyer l'appareil avec un détergent chimique,
vous risqueriez d'abîmer la finition du revêtement. Utilisez
toujours un chiffon propre et sec.

onservez soigneusement ce manuel pour pouvoir vous y référer

Attention:

érifiez l’impédance de vos enceintes. Raccordez des enceintes
dont l’impédance est d’au moins 6 ohms.
< Les prises rouge des enceintes sont + (positives) et les prises
noires des enceintes sont _ (négatives).

énéralement, l’extrémité + du câble de l’enceinte est marquée
pour la distinguer de l’extrémité _ du câble.
B
ranchez l’extrémité marquée sur la prise +, et l’extrémité non
marquée sur la prise noire _.

es parties métalliques de deux fils séparés ne doivent jamais
se toucher pour éviter tout risque de court-circuit. Les fils en
court-circuit peuvent provoquer un incendie ou détériorer
sérieusement votre appareil.

eillez à ce que chaque fiche soit soigneusement insérée. Pour
éviter les ronflements et les bruits parasites, évitez d’attacher les
câbles d’interconnexion parcourus par les signaux avec le cordon

Commet effectuez les raccordements :

. Desserrez le capuchon de protection en tournant dans le sens
inverse des aiguilles d’une montre. Ces capuchons de protection
ne peuvent pas être retirés complètement de la base.
2. Insérez à fond le fil dans la borne et tournez le capuchon de
protection dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre pour que le
raccorder solidement:
Veillez à ce que seule la partie dénudée du fil soit sous la borne et
non la gaine isolante.

. Tirez légèrement sur le câble pour vérifier qu'il est bien fixé.

canaux. Connectez les appareils en utilisant des câbles Cinch.

PRISE SECTEUR
Vous pouvez connecter le cordon d'alimentation de votre
appareil à cette prise. Cette sortie n’est active que lorsque
l’appareil est sous tension ou en mode de veille. Quand
l'appareil est hors tension, cette prise est hors service.
Attention:
Assurez-vous que la puissance électrique totale de tous les
équipements raccordés sur cette prise (ou ces prises) n'excède
pas 100 W (ou 500mA).

AC Inlet
Utilisez cette prise uniquement pour le cordon d'alimentation
fourni.
< L'utilisation d'un autre cordon d'alimentation peut entraîner un

télécommande, mettre à jour le logiciel peut résoudre le
problème. Consultez le site web Apple et téléchargez le
dernier logiciel pour iPod.

Cette prise sort le signal S-vidéo provenant de iPod. Utilisez
un câble S-vidéo pour raccorder le Dock à l’entrée S-Vidéo

POWER
Appuyez sur cet interrupteur pour allumer ou mettre en veille
l’appareil.
Si vous utilisez la fonction de commande du système, réglez ce
commutateur sur la position en service et mettez le système sous
tension/en veille en utilisant la télécommande.
L'indicateur de veille est orange quand l'appareil est en mode de
veille. Quand l’unité est mise sous tension, l’indicateur est bleu.
