INTRODUCTION

The 3/8 in. Pistol Grip Reversible Air Drill is ideal for home improvement

projects, autobody work and general assembly or repairs.

SAFETY

WORK AREA

1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well-lit

and free of distractions. Place lights so you are not working in a shadow.

2. Keep anyone not wearing the appropriate safety equipment away from the

work area.

3. Store unused tools properly in a safe and dry location to prevent rust or

damage. Lock tools away and keep out of the reach of children.

4. Do not install or use in the presence of flammable gases, dust or liquids.

PERSONAL SAFETY

WARNING! Wear personal protective equipment approved by the Canadian

Standards Association (CSA) or American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection

for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply with CSA Z94.3-07

or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.

2. Wear the appropriate type of full-face shield in addition to safety googles,

as the work can create chips, abrasive or particulate matter.

3. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or to

reduce the effects of tool vibration.

a. Do not wear gloves when operating a tool that can snag the material

and pull the hand into the tool.

4. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool.

5. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in the

work environment.

6. This tool can cause hearing damage. Wear hearing protection gear with an

appropriate Noise Reduction Rating to withstand the decibel levels.

7. The tool may contain high pressure. Use safety glasses and gloves for

protection during operation. Keep hands clear of the exposed rubber

portions of the hose.

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS

Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid

personal injury or damage to tool.

1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs,

alcohol or medications.

2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the

moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.

3. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance

enables better control in unexpected situations.

4. Support the workpiece or clamp it to a stable platform. Holding the

workpiece by hand or against your body may lead to personal injury.

5. Keep your fingers away from the trigger/switch while carrying the tool,

attaching an air hose or an accessory. Lock the trigger/switch safety if available.

6. Avoid unintentional starts. Be sure that the regulator/throttle switch is in

the neutral or OFF position when not in use and before connecting it to

any air source.

7. Serious injury or death may occur from inhaling compressed air. The air

stream may contain carbon monoxide, toxic vapors or solid particles.

Never inhale compressed air directly from the pump or air tool.

SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

WARNING! DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product (gained from

repeated use) replace strict adherence to the tool safety rules. If you use this

tool unsafely or incorrectly, you can suffer serious personal injury.

1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific function.

Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended purpose.

2. Do not use the tool if any parts are damage broken or misplaced. Repair or

replace the parts.

3. This tool will not stop moving immediately. Do not lay the tool down or leave

it unattended until it has come to a complete stop. A part that is moving could

make the tool jump or grab a surface and pull the tool out of your control.

4. Always make sure the work surface is free from nails and other foreign objects.

5. After changing the bits and accessories or making adjustments, make sure

the chuck and any other adjustment devices are securely tightened. Loose

adjustment devices will be violently thrown.

6. Always use the correct chuck size. If the chuck size is larger than the

accessory shank size it will not grip the shank properly, leading to

possible injury to the operator, damage to the tool or work piece.

7. Always check accessory bits for damage before each use. Damaged

accessories can break during use and cause serious injury.

8. Never use dull or damaged bits. Sharp bits must be handled with care.

Damaged bits can snap during use. Dull bits require more force to push

the tool, possibly causing the bit to break.

9. If devices are used for the connection of dust extraction and collection

facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of a dust

collection system reduces dust-related hazards.

10. Maintain a firm grip on the tool and position your body and arms to allow

you to resist kickback forces. Kickback will propel the tool in the direction

opposite to the tool’s movement at the time of snagging.

11. Use metal and voltage detectors to locate hidden electric, water or gas

lines. Avoid touching live components or conductors.

12. Before drilling, check that there is sufficient clearance for the drill bit

under the workpiece.

13. If you are interrupted when operating the drill, complete the process and

switch off the tool before looking up.

AIR TOOL PRECAUTIONS

1. Use only clean and dry compressed air as a power source. Contaminated

or moist air will gradually damage the tool.

2. Install an in-line shutoff valve or regulator to allow immediate control over

the air supply in an emergency, even if a hose is ruptured.

3. Discontinue tool use if it does not work properly or air is leaking. Tag or

mark the tool as ‘defective’ or ‘out of service’ until repaired.

4. Check the manufacturer’s maximum pressure rating for air tools and

accessories. Compressor outlet pressure must be regulated to never

exceed the maximum pressure rating of the tool (see Specifications).

Exceeding the maximum PSI rating can create a bursting hazard, causing

injury and property damage.

5. Attach all accessories properly to the tool before connecting the air

supply. A loose accessory may detach or break during operation.

6. Never use oxygen, combustible gas or any other bottled gas as a power

source. Any power source other than an air compressor could cause an

explosion and serious personal injury.

7. Turn OFF the valve and discharge any remaining air pressure after each

use or before adjusting the tool.

8. Do not leave the air tool unattended with its compressed air supply on.

Turn off the compressed air supply and bleed the air tool of any remaining

compressed air before leaving the air tool unattended.

9. Serious injury may occur from loose debris being propelled at high speeds

from the compressed air stream. Always wear OSHA approved safety glasses

to protect the eyes during operation of the air compressor.

10. Never point the air stream or tools at any point of your body, other people or

animals. Debris and dust may be ejected without warning. Always turn off the

air compressor and drain tank pressure completely before attempting

maintenance or attaching air tools. Release pressure slowly from the system.

AIR HOSE PRECAUTIONS

1. Inspect the tool's air hose for cracks, fraying or other faults before each

use. Discontinue use if the air hose is damaged or hissing is heard from

the air hose or couplers. Replace the defective air hose.

2. Do not allow people, mobile equipment or vehicles to pass over the

unprotected air hose. Position the air hose away from high traffic areas,

in a reinforced conduit or place planks on both sides of the air hose to

create a protective trench.

3. Prevent damage to the air hose by observing the following:

a. Never carry the tool by the air hose.

b. Keep the air hose behind the tool and out of the tool's work path.

c. Keep the air hose away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.

d. Do not wrap the air hose around the tool as sharp edges may pierce

or crack the air hose. Gently coil the hose and either hang on a hook

or fasten with a device to keep hose together when storing.

4. A damaged or disconnected air hose under pressure may whip around and

inflict personal injury or damage the work area. Secure the compressor's

air hose to a fixed or permanent structure with clamps or cable ties.

COMPRESSOR/TANK PRECAUTIONS

DANGER! Do not use an air tank beyond its expiration date. A tank rupture or

explosion may kill or cause a serious injury to yourself or a bystander. Disable

and discard the air tank according to the your municipality by-laws.

1. Never drill into, weld, patch or modify the air tank. Immediately replace the

tank or compressor if an air leak develops. The leak may lead to a rupture.

2. Never make adjustments to the components that control tank pressure.

Serious injury or death may occur if modifications are made to the

pressure switch, safety relief valve or other components that control the

tank pressure.

3. Check operation of the pressure relief valve on a regular basis and never

operate without a factory approved pressure relief valve. Do not make

alterations to the factory operating pressure settings.

POWER TOOL PRECAUTIONS

Tool accessory is a general term that refers to drill bit, saw or cutting blades,

grinding wheel, etc. as appropriate for the tool.

1. Do not use any power tool with a malfunctioning power switch or control.

A power tool that fails to respond to the controls is dangerous and can

cause an injury. A qualified technician must repair and verify the power

tool is operating correctly, before it can be used.

2. Do not cover the air vents.

3. Disconnect the power source before installing or servicing the tool.

4. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches before using the tool. The tool may eject

an attached wrench or a key and cause an injury to you or a bystander.

5. Never force the tool. Excessive pressure could break the tool, resulting in

damage to your workpiece or serious personal injury. Excessive pressure is

the cause if your tool runs smoothly under no load, but roughly under load.

6. Keep hands and fingers away from the work area. Any part of body

contacting the tool’s working parts could cause an injury.

7. Only use accessories that are specifically designed for use with the tool.

Ensure the accessory is tightly installed.

8. Only use an accessory that exceeds the No Load Speed rating (see

Specifications).

9. Before using the tool on a workpiece, test the tool by running it at the

highest no load speed for at least 30 seconds in a safe position. Stop

immediately if there is any abnormal vibration or wobbling. Check the tool

to determine the cause.

10. Never touch the tool accessory or workpiece during or immediately after use.

They may be hot and could inflict a burn injury.

11. Never use a tool with a cracked or worn tool accessory. Change the tool

accessory before using it.

UNPACKING

WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the missing

part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction and

personal injury.

Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage.

Make sure that all items in the contents are included.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION

Numbered references in parenthesis (#1) refer to the included Parts List.

INSTALL AIR PLUG

Prepare a standard 1/4 in. NPT male air plug for use with your tool.

1. Wrap the external threads of the male plug with sealant tape.

a. Wrap tape in a clockwise direction so it will not unravel.

b. Do not tape all the threads. Leave several leading threads unwrapped

for easier alignment.

2. Screw the plug into the tool's air inlet and tighten with a wrench until snug.

3. Run the compressor at a low volume and check the connection for air

leaks. Do not use the tool until all air leaks are repaired or the faulty

component is replaced.

IMPORTANT! Vibration may cause failure if a quick coupler is connected

directly to the air tool. To overcome this, connect a leader hose to the tool. A

quick coupler may then be used to connect the leader hose to the air line hose.

OPERATION

PRESSURE DROP

Apply the air consumption and pressure rate numbers to the tool’s air inlet, not

the compressor’s outlet. Calculate the pressure drop for your air supply set-up

and increase the compressor outlet pressure to compensate. Make sure you do

not exceed the maximum pressure for any part of your air supply system.

Installing a pressure gauge at the tool inlet is the best way to measure the air

pressure and adjust the compressor’s output.

TOOL OPERATION

1. Clean the air drill of packing grease before first use. See the Air Tool

Lubrication section for instructions.

2. Install a drill bit into the chuck and hand-tighten. Make sure the bit’s shaft

is straight. Tighten using the chuck key. Remove the chuck key.

3. Connect the air drill to the end of the air hose.

4. Set the compressor to the correct air pressure and flow (see

Specifications). Start the compressor.

5. Push the lever behind the trigger upward to set it in

forward. Push down to set the drill in reverse (Fig. 1).

6. Test the drill under no load to confirm the bit is

installed correctly.

7. Place the drill bit point onto the workpiece surface.

a. Use a center punch to mark the spot to prevent

the drill bit from skittering across the surface.

b. A larger drill bit may require a pilot hole. Use a

narrower bit to drill the pilot hole first, then install the larger bit.

c. Apply a drop of cutting oil to the drill bit and surface before drilling

metal.

8. Squeeze the trigger and lightly push the drill against the workpiece. Continue

to apply pressure until the proper depth is reached.

9. Hold the trigger until the drill bit is removed from the hole, then release

the trigger.

10. Shut the compressor off once the task is completed. Squeeze the trigger to

release residual compressed air from the hose and tool. Disconnect the tool.

11. Remove the bit and store both the bit and the drill.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to

control and will have fewer problems.

2. Inspect the tool fittings, alignment andhoses periodically. Have damaged

or worn components repaired or replaced by an authorized technician.

Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.

3. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.

4. Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.

5. Keep the tool clean, dry and free from oil/grease at all times.

6. Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates. These carry important information.

If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.

WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An

improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.

AIR TOOL LUBRICATION

NOTICE! Only use air tool oil to lubricate the tool. Other lubricants are not

suitable and will damage the tool or cause a malfunction during use.

NOTICE! Never use a penetrating oil to lubricate an air tool. Penetrating oil acts

as a solvent that will dissolve the tool’s grease packing and may damage the o-

rings, causing the tool to seize or malfunction.

1. All air tools have an internal coating of grease to prevent corrosion during

shipping and storage. Remove this grease by adding a generous amount of

air tool oil in the air inlet and then run the tool under no load until the

exhaust is clear.

2. Manually add a drop or two of air tool oil into the tool’s male plug before

each use and after every hour of continuous use. The tool will not work

properly without lubrication and parts will wear prematurely.

3. Avoid adding too much air tool oil as this can cause premature power loss

and eventual tool failure. A qualified technician will need to take the tool

apart and clean out the excess oil.

4. Apply a generous amount of air tool oil to the tool before storing it for an

extended period of time (overnight, weekend, etc.). Run the tool for

approximately 30 seconds to ensure the oil is evenly distributed

throughout the tool. Store it in a clean and dry location.

STORAGE

When not in use for an extended period, apply a thin coat of lubricant to the

steel parts to avoid rust. Remove the lubricant before using the tool again.

DISPOSAL

Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.

Contact your local municipality for a list of disposal facilities or by-laws for

electronic devices, batteries, oil or other toxic liquids.

IMPORTANT! DO NOT pollute the environment by allowing uncontrolled

discharge of waste oil.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not function

properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualified technician

service the tool.

3. N'utilisez pas l'outil si vous devez étirer les bras pour vous en servir. Une

4. Soutenez la pièce à travailler ou fixez-la sur une plate-forme stable. Une

pièce à travailler tenue dans les mains ou appuyée contre votre corps sera

instable et peut entraîner des blessures corporelles.

5. Gardez vos doigts à bonne distance de la gâchette/commutateur lors du

transport de l’outil ou du branchement d’un tuyau à air ou d’un accessoire.

Engagez le verrou de gâchette/interrupteur, le cas échéant.

6. Évitez les mises en marche involontaires. Assurez-vous que le

régulateur/commutateur est en position neutre ou OFF (arrêt) lorsque

CONSIGNES DE SÉCURITÉ SPÉCIFIQUES

AVERTISSEMENT! Ne permettez PAS au confort ou à votre familiarisation avec

l'outil (obtenus après un emploi répété) de se substituer à une adhésion stricte

aux règles de sécurité de l'outil. Si vous utilisez cet outil de façon dangereuse

ou incorrecte, vous pouvez subir des blessures corporelles graves.

1. Utilisez le bon outil pour la tâche à effectuer. Cet outil a été conçu pour

une utilisation spécifique. Évitez de modifier ou d'altérer cet outil ou de

l'utiliser à une fin autre que celle pour laquelle il a été conçu.

2. N’utilisez pas l’outil si des pièces présentent des dommages ou sont

déplacées. Réparez ou remplacez les pièces.

3. L'outil ne s'arrêtera pas immédiatement. Ne posez pas l'outil sur une

surface ou ne le laissez pas sans surveillance avant qu'il ne s'immobilise.

Une pièce mobile pourrait faire sauter l'outil ou s'agripper à une surface et

vous pourriez perdre la maîtrise de l'outil.

4. Assurez-vous toujours que la surface de travail est dépourvue de clous ou

autres objets étrangers.

5. Après avoir changé les lames ou effectué des réglages, assurez-vous que le

mandrin et tout autre dispositif réglé sont bien serrés. Les dispositifs de

réglage desserrés seront projetés avec violence.

6. Utilisez toujours le mandrin de taille appropriée. Si le mandrin est plus

grande que la tige de l'accessoire, elle ne pourra retenir la tige

correctement, ce qui pourrait entraîner des blessures pour l'utilisateur, des

dommages à l'outil ou à la pièce à travailler.

7. Vérifiez toujours si les lames sont endommagées avant chaque utilisation.

Les accessoires endommagés peuvent se casser pendant l'utilisation et

causer des blessures graves.

8. N'utilisez jamais des lames émoussés ni endommagés. Les embouts affûtés

doivent être manipulés avec soin. Les embouts endommagés peuvent

casser pendant leur utilisation. Les embouts émoussés obligent à ce qu'on

applique davantage de force au niveau de l'outil, ce qui pourrait provoquer

un bris de l'embout.

9. Si des accessoires sont utilisés pour la connexion d'un dispositif

d'aspiration et de collecte des poussières, veillez à ce que ceux-ci soient

correctement connectés et utilisés. L'utilisation d'un dispositif collecteur

de poussière réduit les risques associés à la poussière.

10. Maintenez fermement l'outil et placez le corps et les bras de façon à vous

permettre de résister à la force de l'effet de rebond. L'effet de rebond

propulse l'outil dans le sens opposé à celui du mouvement de l’outil, au

11. Utilisez des détecteurs de métal et des détecteurs de tension pour repérer

les conduites cachées d'électricité, d'eau ou de gaz. Évitez de toucher les

composants ou les conducteurs sous tension.

12. Avant de procéder au perçage, vérifiez s'il existe un jeu suffisant pour le

foret sous la pièce à travailler.

13. Si on vous interrompt alors que vous utilisez la perceuse, complétez

l'opération et placez celle-ci hors tension avant de soulever le regard.

PRÉCAUTIONS RELATIVES AUX OUTILS PNEUMATIQUES

1. Utilisez uniquement un air comprimé propre et sec comme source d’énergie.

L’air contaminé ou humide endommagera progressivement l’outil.

2. Installez une soupape d'arrêt ou un régulateur sur la conduite afin de

permettre une commande immédiate de l'alimentation en air, en cas

d'urgence, même si un tuyau se fend.

3. Consultez la pression nominale maximale du fabricant en ce qui concerne

les outils pneumatiques et accessoires. La pression de sortie du

compresseur doit être réglée de façon à ne jamais dépasser la pression

nominale maximale de l'outil (consultez Spécifications). Si on dépasse la

pression nominale maximale, il pourrait en résulter un risque d’explosion

capable d’entraîner des blessures et des dommages aux biens.

4. Arrêtez d’utiliser l’outil s’il ne fonctionne pas correctement ou s’il présente

des fuites d’air. Attachez une étiquette sur l’outil indiquant qu’il est «

défectueux » ou qu’il est « hors service », jusqu’à ce qu’il soit réparé.

5. Avant de relier l’alimentation en air, fixez correctement tous les

accessoires sur l’outil. Un accessoire mal attaché pourrait se détacher et se

briser durant l’utilisation.

6. N'utilisez jamais d'oxygène, de gaz combustible ou tout autre gaz

embouteillé en tant que source d'énergie. Une source d'énergie autre qu'un

compresseur d'air pourrait causer une explosion entraînant ainsi des

blessures corporelles graves.

8. Ne laissez pas l’outil d'air sans surveillance alors que la source d'air

comprimé est en fonction. Fermez la source d'air comprimé et purgez

l’outil d'air de tout air comprimé restant avant de laisser celui-ci sans

surveillance.

9. Des blessures graves peuvent se produire si des débris sont propulsés à

haute vitesse dans le jet d’air du compresseur. Portez toujours des

lunettes de sécurité approuvés OSHA afin de vous protéger les yeux

lorsque vous utilisez le compresseur d’air.

10. Ne dirigez jamais le jet d’air ou les outils vers votre corps, d’autres

individus ou des animaux. Des débris et de la poussière peuvent être

éjectés sans avertissement. Arrêtez toujours le compresseur d’air et

évacuez complètement la pression du réservoir avant de tenter de

procéder à l’entretien ou de fixer des outils pneumatiques. Évacuez

doucement la pression du système.

PRÉCAUTIONS RELATIVES AUX TUYAUX À AIR

1. Inspectez le tuyau d’air de l'outil pour déceler des fissures, des

effilochures et tout autre défaut avant chaque utilisation. Arrêtez

l'utilisation si le tuyau d’air est endommagée ou si un sifflement se fait

entendre provenant du tuyau à air. Remplacez le tuyau d’air ou le

composant défectueux.

2. Veillez à ce que personne, ni aucun matériel mobile ou des véhicules

n'écrasent le tuyau d’air non protégée. Placez le tuyau d’air à l'écart des

zones de circulation intense, soit à l'intérieur d'un conduit renforcé ou

placez des planches des deux côtés de le tuyau d’air afin de créer un

couloir protecteur.

3. Pour éviter tout dommage au tuyau d'air, observez les précautions

suivantes :

a. Ne transportez jamais l'outil par le tuyau d'air.

b. Gardez le tuyau d’air derrière l'outil et hors du trajet de l'outil.

c. Gardez le tuyau d’air à l'écart des sources de chaleur, de l'huile, des

bords coupants ou des pièces mobiles.

d. N'enroulez pas le tuyau d’air autour de l'outil, car les arêtes vives

risquent de percer ou de fissurer le tuyau d'air. Enroulez délicatement

le tuyau et suspendez-le à un crochet ou attachez-le sur un support

pour qu’il reste enroulé pendant son rangement.

4. Un conduite d'air endommagée ou débranchée sous pression peut se

endommager l'aire de travail. Fixez le tuyau d’air du compresseur à une

structure fixe ou permanente au moyen de serre-câbles ou d'attache-

câbles.

PRÉCAUTIONS RELATIVES AU COMPRESSEUR/RÉSERVOIR

DANGER ! N’utilisez pas le réservoir d’air après sa date d’expiration. Un

réservoir qui rompt ou qui explose peut tuer ou causer de graves blessures à

l’utilisateur et aux gens à proximité. Désactivez et mettez au rebut le réservoir

d’air conformément à la réglementation locale.

1. Ne percez, soudez, rapiécez ou modifiez jamais le réservoir d’air.

Remplacez immédiatement le réservoir ou le compresseur en présence de

fuites d’air. La fuite peut entraîner un éclatement.

2. N’ajustez jamais les composants qui commandent la pression du réservoir.

Des blessures graves ou la mort peuvent survenir si on modifie le

pressostat, la soupape de sécurité ou d’autres composants qui contrôlent

la pression du réservoir.

3. Vérifiez régulièrement le fonctionnement de la soupape de décharge et

n’utilisez jamais le système dans une soupape de décharge approuvée par

l’usine. N’apportez aucune modification aux réglages de la pression

d’utilisation effectués en usine.

PRÉCAUTIONS RELATIVES AUX OUTILS ÉLECTRIQUES

Le terme « accessoire pour outil » est un terme général qui fait référence à un

accessoire, par exemple un foret, une lame de scie, une meule, etc., propre à

un outil.

1. N’utilisez pas d’outil électrique muni d’un interrupteur d’alimentation ou d’une

commande qui fait défaut. Un outil électrique qui ne réagit pas aux

commandes est dangereux et pourrait provoquer des blessures graves. Un

technicien qualifié doit réparer l’outil électrique et vérifier s’il fonctionne

correctement avant que vous ne puissiez l’utiliser.

2. Ne recouvrez pas les orifices d'aération.

3. Débranchez l'appareil de la source d'énergie avant de procéder à son

installation ou à son entretien.

4. Retirez les clavettes et les clés de réglage avant d’utiliser l’outil. L’outil peut

éjecter une clé installée et blesser les gens à proximité, incluant vous-même.

5. Ne forcez jamais l’outil. Une pression excessive pourrait briser l’outil,

des blessures corporelles graves. Si votre outil fonctionne correctement

lorsqu’il n’y a aucune charge, mais qu’il présente un fonctionnement difficile

6. Gardez vos mains et vos doigts éloignés de l’aire de travail. Le contact de toute

partie du corps avec l’outil peut causer des blessures.

7. Utilisez uniquement des accessoires qui ont été spécifiquement conçus en

fonction de l’outil. Assurez-vous aussi que l'accessoire est solidement installé.

8. Utilisez uniquement un accessoire qui excède la vitesse nominale à vide

(consultez Spécifications).
