INTRODUCTION
The 3 in. High Flow Water Pump is designed to move large volumes of water in
minimal time.
SAFETY
WARNING! Read and understand all instructions before using this tool. The
operator must follow basic precautions to reduce the risk of personal injury
and/or damage to the equipment.
Keep this manual for safety warnings, precautions, operating or inspection and
maintenance instructions.

WORK AREA
1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well-lit
and free of distractions. Place lights so you are not working in a shadow.
2. Keep anyone not wearing the appropriate safety equipment away from the
work area.
3. Store unused tools properly in a safe and dry location to prevent rust or
damage. Lock tools away and keep out of the reach of children.
4. Do not install or use in the presence of flammable gases, dust or liquids.
a. Do not use pressurized starting fluids with the engine. The vapours
are flammable.
5. Protect hoses from vehicle traffic by placing planks on each side of hose to
allow vehicles to pass over without obstructing or collapsing the hose.
6. The area should have adequate slopes and drainage to reduce the
possibility of a fall due to slippery surfaces.
PERSONAL SAFETY
WARNING! Wear personal protective equipment approved by the Canadian
Standards Association (CSA) or American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection
for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply with CSA Z94.3-07
or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.
2. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or to
reduce the effects of tool vibration.
3. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool.
4. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in the
work environment.
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid
personal injury or damage to tool.
1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol
or medications.

2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the
moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.
3. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance
enables better control in unexpected situations.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING! DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product (gained from
repeated use) replace strict adherence to the tool safety rules. If you use
this tool unsafely or incorrectly, you can suffer serious personal injury.
1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific function.
Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended purpose.
2. Do not use the tool if any parts are damage broken or misplaced. Repair or
replace the parts.
3. Do not insert a finger or any object into the pump or engine openings.
4. The pump is non-submersible. Keep the engine dry at all times. Protect the
engine from wet weather.
5. Operate water pump from a stable surface.
6. Anchor the pump to avoid equipment movement. The load from hoses may
cause the pump to tip over.
7. Do not pump the following to avoid creating a hazardous situation or
damaging the pump:
a. Flammable liquids such as fuel or fuel oils.
b. Hot liquids. This will overheat the pump and the thermal protection
system will shut the pump off until it has cooled.
c. Sea water, beverages, acids, chemical solutions or any other liquid
that promotes corrosion can damage the pump.
8. Do not run the pump dry. This will cause cavitation in the pump
mechanism and can damage the pump beyond repair.
9. Do not obstruct the suction or discharge hose in any way.
10. Never operate pump without a strainer basket connected to the end of the
suction hose.
11. Never run the pump against a closed discharge. The pump may overheat,
damaging the seals and creating a situation where a burn injury can result.
Prime the pump with water before starting.

12. Do not allow the pump or any other system component to freeze, as this
can damage the pump during operation.
13. Never move machine by pulling on the hoses. Hold the unit’s frame when
moving it.
14. This water pump is not for use in mobile equipment or marine applications.
ENGINE PRECAUTIONS
1. All users must understand the operation of all controls and learn how to
stop the engine quickly in case of emergency.
2. Do not tamper with governor spring, links or other engine parts to increase
speed or power.
3. The engine and exhaust become very hot during operation. Severe thermal
burns can occur on contact, especially with the muffler.
a. Keep the engine at least 5 feet (1.5 meter) away from buildings and
other equipment during operation.
b. Remove accumulated debris from the muffler and cylinder area.
Combustible debris, such as leaves, grass, brush, etc. can catch fire if
they come in contact with a hot engine.
c. Do not place anything on the engine while it is running.
d. Allow the muffler, engine cylinder and fins to cool before touching.
4. The manufacturer of the equipment on which this engine is installed
specifies the top speed at which the engine will operate. DO NOT exceed
this speed.
5. Do not tip the engine or pump at an angle that will cause fuel to spill.
6. Test for engine spark with an approved spark plug tester and with the spark
plug in place. Unintentional sparking that can result in fire or electric shock.
CARBON MONOXIDE
All fuel appliances consume air (oxygen) and can produce carbon monoxide
which is toxic, has no odour and can cause death. Using a fuel appliance in a
small and enclosed area can be harmful. Never use this appliance in a small and
enclosed area. Always have fresh air venting.

CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING
WARNING! Never operate a gas engine indoors or in a confined space as the
exhaust contains carbon monoxide gas. Inhalation of carbon monoxide gas
can lead to illness or death. The area must be well ventilated. Opening
windows and doors is not enough to ventilate an area.
Carbon monoxide is a colourless and odourless gas that is difficult to detect.
Carbon monoxide poisoning results from inhalation of the gas and may be lethal if
left untreated. Evacuate all people to an area with clean air and seek immediate
medical attention for any person experiencing the following symptoms:
Headache
Confusion
Shortness of breath
Weakness
Chest Pain
Dizziness
Blurred Vision
Nausea and vomiting
Unconsciousness
ENGINE REFUELING PRECAUTIONS
1. Never remove the fuel cap or add fuel with the engine running. Stop
the engine and allow both the engine and exhaust components to cool
before refueling.
2. Never add or drain fuel from the engine while indoors.
3. Never refuel or store the machine in a place where there is open flame,
spark or other ignition source.
4. Do not attempt to start the engine if fuel is spilled. Clean up the spill and
dispose of any rags properly before restarting.
5. Replace and tighten the fuel cap after refueling.
UNPACKING
WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the
missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction
and personal injury.
Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage.
Make sure that all items in the contents are included.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION
Letter references in parenthesis (A) refer to the included Identification Key.
Dashed numbers in parenthesis (Fig. 1-1) refer to a specific point in an
illustration or image.
Your water pump requires some set up and is ready for use after it has been
properly serviced with the recommended oil and fuel. Please contact Princess
Auto Ltd. if you have any problems with the set-up of your water pump. Please
have the model and serial number from the data tag available.
CONNECTION METHODS
There are multiple methods to connect both the discharge and suction hoses to
the pump.

1. Hose Coupler A barbed hose coupler is placed over the inlet or discharge
port (Fig. 2-4) and fixed into place by a hose ring (Fig. 2-3) that screws into
place. A hose end is then fitted
over the barbed coupler (Fig. 2-1)
and fixed into place using hose
clamps (Fig. 2-2). Tighten hose
clamp securely using a standard
1/4 in. (6 mm) screwdriver. Rubber
seals are required.
2. Threaded Connection – The
intake and discharge ports have
male threads. Commercial hoses
will have a compatible female
thread. A rubber seal will be
required to prevent leaks.
3. Cam-lock Adapter An adapter is
fitted to the pumps intake or
discharge port (Fig.3-1). The
hose has the complementary
adapter with two cam-lock levers
(Fig. 3-2). The hose adapter is
fitted over the pump adapter and
the cam-lock levers (Fig. 3-3) are
pushed down to lock the adapters together.
SUCTION HOSE SETUP
1. Connect a non-collapsible
suction hose to the pumps
inlet. This hose should be no
longer than 26 feet long.
2. Attach the strainer basket to
the other end of the suction hose by inserting the adapter to the hose end.
3. Fix with a hose clamp.

DISCHARGE HOSE SETUP
A discharge hose is optional, as the pumping force will propel the water away.
However, the discharge is uncontrolled. Adding a discharge hose will guide the
water to a specific location. The hose diameter must be larger than the pump’s
discharge port size.
1. Connect a hose to the pump’s
outlet (C). See Specifications
for the Max. Discharge Head
hose length.
2. Fix the end of the discharge
hose to prevent it from moving
around due to the force of the discharge.
OPERATION
PRE-OPERATION CHECKS
NOTICE! The engine is not shipped with oil. Before starting the engine, add
oil according to the instructions in this manual. Starting the engine without
oil will damage the engine beyond repair.
Check the engines condition before operating to maximize the users safety and
the service life of the engine. Ensure that the engine is level and the switch is in
the OFF position before beginning the pre-operation checks.
BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE
WARNING! Do not start or run engine in an enclosed area, even if the doors
or windows are open. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide (see Carbon
Monoxide Precautions).
1. Make sure spark plug, muffler, fuel cap and air filter are in place and secured.
2. Ensure the spark plug lead is securely connected to the spark plug, otherwise
unintentional sparking can result, causing a fire or electric shock.
3. Check the air filter (E). A dirty air filter will reduce engine performance.
4. Check that all protective covers and guards are in place.
5. Check that all nuts, bolts and screws are tight.

6. Check the fuel level.
7. Check the engine oil level. Running the engine without enough oil can
damage the engine.
8. Look around and underneath the engine for signs of oil or gasoline leaks.
a. Do not start the engine until any spilled fuel has evaporated.
9. Remove any excessive dirt or debris, especially around the muffler and
recoil starter (F).
10. Look for signs of damage.
11. Check the equipment powered by this engine.
AIR FILTER
Dismantle the air filter cover and check its element to make sure it is clean and
in good operation. Clean or replace as necessary.
CAUTION! Never run the engine without an air filter or severe engine wear
may result.
FUEL RECOMMENDATION
1. Remove the fuel tank cap and check the fuel level.
2. If the level is too low, refuel the tank (see Care & Maintenance How to
Add Fuel)
HEAD RANGE FOR PUMP
Head is defined as the amount of water the pump will discharge through the
hose at a vertical height. The amount of water (flow) decreases as the discharge
height is increased. The length, type and size of the suction and discharge
hoses can also significantly affect pump output.
Suction head or Suction Lift is the vertical distance between the center of the
pump and the end of the suction hose. The maximum lift is 26 feet due to water
pressure (a jet pump is required for additional depth).
The dynamic head is a combination of the Head and Suction Head when the
pump is set up. The maximum height difference cannot exceed 82 feet. If the
suction lift is 12 feet, the maximum head is 70 feet.
The suction lift hose should be as short as possible to increase pump efficiency and
reduce priming time. The suction set up should not exceed the discharge set up.

IMMERSE STRAINER BASKET
The strainer basket must be fully immersed into the water source to ensure that air
is not introduced into the pump. Place the strainer basket at a sufficient depth that
the pumping system will not drain enough water to uncover the strainer basket.
To keep silt or sand from the bottom of a
lake, river or ditch from entering the
suction hose, anchor the strainer basket
on a solid surface such as group of
rocks, or place it in a bucket sitting on
the bottom.
STARTING THE PUMP
PRIME THE PUMP
CAUTION! Do not touch an operating engine. They are designed to operate at
high temperatures and may inflict a burn injury.
IMPORTANT! Pump must be primed. Make sure pump is full of water before
running. Failure to do so will damage to the pump.

1. Remove priming plug from top of
pump.
2. Fill pump with clean, clear water up
to top of discharge outlet.
3. Replace priming plug.
START THE ENGINE
WARNING! Failure to follow the steps below will result in rapid retraction of
the starter cord faster than the user can let go. This will pull the user’s
hand and arm toward the engine, possibly resulting in serious injury.
1. Ensure spark plug, muffler, fuel cap and air filter are in place. Do not crank
engine with spark plug removed.
2. Move the fuel valve lever to
the ON position (Fig. 9-1).
When the valve lever is in the
ON position, fuel is allowed to
flow from the fuel tank to the
carburetor.
3. Push the switch to the ON
position (Fig. 10-1).
4. Move the throttle lever to the
FAST position (Fig. 10-2).
5. Move the choke lever to the
CLOSED position (Fig. 11-1).
The choke is used to provide an
enriched fuel mixture when
starting a cold engine. It can be opened and closed by operating the choke lever
manually. The choke is usually unnecessary when restarting a warm engine.
6. Pull Start
a. Pull the recoil starter handle lightly until you feel resistance.
b. Pull the recoil starter handle briskly as soon as resistance is felt.
c. Do not allow the recoil starter handle to snap back against the engine.
Instead, return the starter grip gently by hand.

7. The engine should turn over and start running. If engine floods, set the
choke lever to the OPEN position, place the throttle in FAST and crank until
engine starts.
8. If the choke lever was moved to the CLOSED position to start the engine,
gradually move it to the OPEN position as the engine warms up.
Occasionally you may hear a light spark knockor ‘pinging’ (metallic rapping
noise) while operating under heavy loads. This is no cause for concern.
Should the spark knock or pinging continue to occur, when the engine speed is
steady under a normal load, consider replacing the fuel. If the sounds continue
after changing the fuel, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for a solution or see a
qualified technician.
NOTICE! Running the engine with persistent spark knock or pinging can
cause engine damage.
STOPPING THE WATER PUMP
NOTICE! Do not stop the engine by using the CHOKE lever. This may cause an
engine backfire that could damage the engine.
1. Move throttle lever (G) to the SLOW position.
2. Push ON/OFF switch (H) to the OFF position.
3. Turn the fuel valve (N) to the OFF position.
ENGINE OIL ALARM
The oil alert will stall the engine when the oil level in the crankcase is low. This
will prevent engine damage. Check the oil level if the engine stalls and you are
unable to restart the engine.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to
control and will have fewer problems.
2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or
worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
3. Check fuel system for leaks or signs of deterioration, such as chafed or
spongy hose, loose or missing clamps, or damaged tank or cap.

4. Disconnect the spark plug lead from the spark plug and place the wire
where it cannot contact spark plug when adjusting or making repairs to
your pump.
5. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
6. Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.
7. Maintain the tools labels and name plates. These carry important information.
If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.
WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An
improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.
ENGINE OIL
NOTICE! Engine oil is a major factor affecting engine performance and
service life. Non-detergent and 2-stroke engine oils will damage a 4-stroke
engine and are not recommended.
High-quality detergent engine oils are acceptable if the (API) performance rating
is SF, SG, SH, SJ or higher. Always check the API service label on the oil
container for the performance rating.
1. Check the oil level before each use
with a cool engine that is level.
2. Use 4-stroke engine oil that meets
or exceeds the requirements for
API (American Petroleum
Institute) service classification SF.
Always check the API Service label
on the oil container to be sure it
includes the letters SF.
3. Do not use special additives.
4. SAE 15W-40 is recommended for general, all-temperature use. Other
viscosities shown on the chart may be used when the average temperature
in your area is within the indicated range (Fig. 12).
5. Above 27°C (80°F), using 15W-40 oil may increase oil consumption. Check
the oil level more often.
6. Below 4°C (40°F), using SAE 30 oil will cause hard starting.

OIL LEVEL CHECK
1. Remove the dipstick and clean it.
2. Reinsert the dipstick into the oil filling hole without screwing it in, remove
the dipstick and check the oil level.
3. No oil on the dipstick indicates the oil level is too low. Add the recommended
engine oil up to the oil filling neck.
4. Reinstall the dipstick.
DRAIN AND FLUSH WATER PUMP
1. Disconnect and drain the suction and discharge hoses.
2. Remove the drain plug at pumps bottom (Fig. 14).
3. Remove the primer plug from top of pump and flush the pump’s internal
components with clean water (Fig. 15).
4. Replace both plugs and finger tighten.
HOW TO ADD FUEL
DANGER! Fuel is very flammable. Use extreme care when handling or storing
fuel. An ignition source contacting the fumes or fuel may result in a fire or
explosion and cause fatal or serious injuries to you or a bystander.
1. Refuel outdoors or in a well-ventilated area and immediately wipe up spills.
Fuel can damage paint and plastic.

2. Stop the engine and position equipment on a level surface.
3. Let engine cool at least 2 minutes before removing the fuel cap.
4. Clean the fuel cap area of dirt and debris. Do not allow dirt or water to
enter the fuel tank.
5. Remove the fuel cap slowly to allow the pressure to equalize.
6. Check the fuel level.
7. Add fuel until it reaches the bottom of the fuel level limit marked in the fuel
tank. Take care to not overfill the tank. It may be necessary to lower the
fuel level depending on operating conditions (Fig. 16-1).
8. Reinsert the fuel tank cap and tighten.
9. Wipe up any spilled fuel
before starting the engine
or allow to evaporate.
Spilled fuel is both a fire
hazard and an
environmental hazard.
Dispose of the fuel soaked
rags in a proper hazardous
waste container.
HIGH ALTITUDE OPERATION
At high altitude, the standard air-fuel mixture will be too rich. Performance will
decrease and fuel consumption will increase. A very rich mixture will also foul
the spark plug and cause hard starting. High altitude performance can be
improved by specific modifications to the carburetor. If you always operate your
engine at altitudes above 1,000 meters, have a qualified service technician
perform the necessary modifications.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
Remember that this schedule is based on the assumption that your machine will
be used for its designed purpose. Sustained high-load or high-temperature
operation, or use in unusually wet or dusty conditions, will require more
frequent service.

SERVICE THE AIR FILTER
NOTICE! Operating the engine with a damaged or missing air filter will allow
dust and debris to enter the engine, causing rapid engine wear or scoring on
the engine pistons. Always ensure the air filter is in place.
A dirty air filter will restrict airflow to the carburetor, reducing the engine’s
performance. Clean the air filter more frequently than specified in the
maintenance schedule if the engine is used in dusty areas.
1. Remove the air filter’s outside cover (Fig. 17). Do not allow dirt and debris
to fall into the air filter assembly.

2. Remove the air filter from the air filter housing (E).
3. Clean the housing interior with warm soap and water. Allow to dry before
reassembly.
4. Inspect the air filter to see if you can clean it or if it should be discarded.
Discard if it is too dirty and replace with a new filter.
a. Remove the foam precleaner that is wrapped around the pleated paper
filter. Clean the dirty foam air filter element with warm water and mild
soap. Replace the water as necessary, until the water is no longer
dirty. Allow to dry.
b. Tap the pleated filter against
a hard surface to dislodge
dirt and dust. Finer
particulate matter may still
remain lodged in the filters
fibers.
c. Use clean compressed air to
clean the pleated filter. Set the
compressor to a maximum of
30 PSI. Anything higher can
damage the filter. Hold the air
nozzle inside the filter and
direct the air stream outward
to blow the dirt and debris
away from the outer surface.
NOTICE! Do not use compressed air with chemicals to clean the air filter.
The chemicals could clog or dissolve the filter material.
d. Never attempt to brush the accumulated dust and debris from the
filter. This will force the grime into the fibers and plug the filter.
e. Reassemble the foam and paper filter elements.
5. Reinstall the filter into the housing and secure in place.
6. Install the air filter assembly onto the carburetor and secure with screw.

REPLACING THE SPARK PLUG
NOTICE! Using an incorrect spark plug can cause engine damage. Only
replace a spark plug with a model recommended by the manufacturer.
Spark Plug Type: BPR6ES (NGK) or NHSP LD F7RTC.
The spark plug must be properly gapped and free of deposits for the best
performance. Check local bylaws to see if a resistor spark plug is required to
suppress ignition signals. Replace the included spark plug with a resistor spark
plug if required.
1. Remove any dirt from around the spark plug area.
2. Unclip the spark plug lead and remove the spark plug with a spark plug wrench.
3. Inspect the spark plug. Replace it if damaged, badly fouled, the sealing
washer is in poor condition or the electrode is worn.
4. Check the gap with a spark plug gauge as shown in Figure 18. If necessary,
reset the gap (See Specifications).

the side electrode. Check the gap
after each adjustment.
5. Install the spark plug carefully by hand to
avoid cross threading.
6. Tighten the spark plug to the
recommended torque until the gasket is
compressed. See Specifications for the
correct torque rating.
7. Reconnect the spark plug lead to the spark
plug.
CLEANING THE SEDIMENT CUP
CAUTION! Wear latex or rubber gloves when working on the sediment cup.
The cup may contain fuel that will cause skin irritation. Prolonged and
repeated exposure to fuel on skin may result in dry, cracked skin.
1. Switch the fuel valve (N) to the OFF position.
2. Remove the fuel sediment cup, screw and o-ring.
