NOTICE! Remove any o-rings from the spray gun before applying solvent.
Some solvents can interact with the o-ring material and render it
unusable as a seal.
Clean the paint spray gun immediately after you are finished. The paint may
dry and become more difficult to remove. Any paint debris left in the spray
gun may affect the effectiveness and quality of the paint job.
Cleaning the paint spray gun will involve disassembling and reassembling it.
Have solvent, rags, a paint spray gun cleaning kit, toothpicks, a tray to hold
the parts, a paint container and a container to hold the waste solvent. The
solvent used will depend on the type of paint sprayed.
Pour the solvent into a spray bottle for easier application to the paint spray gun.
1. Put safety equipment such as gloves, goggles and a mask to protect
from fumes before cleaning the spray gun.
2. Discharge any air pressure left, then disconnect the paint spray gun
from the air hose.
3. Disconnect the pressure regulator on the tool and set aside.
4. Remove the paint cup lid (#29) and pour any remaining paint either into the
original paint can or a paint can set aside for waste paint.
a. Some paints will solidify and others will remain liquid after disposal. A
separate can should be kept for each type of waste. Contact your local
municipality for instructions on the proper waste disposal of paint.
5. Unscrew the paint cup (#28) and set the paint spray gun aside.
6. Clean the excess paint from the cup and lid with a rag or paper towel.
Dispose of rag/towel as appropriate.
7. Spray solvent into the cup. Use the bottle brush (#32) from the paint spray
gun cleaning kit to remove the paint on the interior of the cup and lid.
Spray with additional solvent as needed. Wipe clean with a rag/towel and
set aside on another clean rag/towel to dry.
8. Remove the needle assembly (#16A and B) from the gun’s body. Remove
the pattern adjustment valve set (#13 to 13H). Wipe down the needle
assembly parts and pattern adjustment valve, except the gasket (#13E),
with solvent. Set aside to dry.
