8 For technical questions call 1-800-665-8685
2. Screw the coupler plug into the tool's air inlet and tighten with a
wrench until snug.
3. Run the compressor at a low volume and check the connection for air
leaks. Do not use the tool until all air leaks are repaired or the faulty
component is replaced.
IMPORTANT! Vibration may cause failure if a quick coupler is connected
directly to the air tool. To overcome this, connect a leader hose to the
tool. A quick coupler may then be used to connect the leader hose to the
air line hose.
OPERATION
Proper handling of the spray gun will achieve the desired paint coating. The
recommended paint viscosity will vary according to the paint’s properties
and the painting conditions like the temperature or humidity. Read the paint
instructions before spraying.
HOW TO ADJUST THE PAINT GUN
CAUTION! While under pressure, never remove the fluid control knob lock nut.
1. The amount of fluid applied to a surface is adjusted by tightening or
loosening the fluid adjustment knob (#18). Tighten the knob clockwise
to reduce fluid flow. Loosen the knob counterclockwise to allow more
fluid to flow into the airstream.
2. The pattern adjustment valve knob (#15) will change the pattern from a
circle to an oval. Turn the pattern adjustment valve set counterclockwise
until seated. The spray pattern will be a solid circle. As the knob is
loosened counterclockwise, the circle will change to an oval that
gradually narrows as the knob is loosened.
3. A pressure regulator gauge is required to control the air flow.
PREPARING TO PAINT
1. Screw the fluid adjustment knob and pressure regulator knob in fully in
prevent air and paint flow.
2. Attach the air hose to the air inlet or tools pressure regulator.
V4.0 HVLP Gravity Paint Gun 8870685
Visit www.princessauto. com for more information 9
3. Set the air compressor to slightly higher than the recommended
operating pressure, but do not exceed the maximum air pressure (see
Specifications). Air pressure may drop when using a long air hose.
4. Fill the paint cup.
5. Adjust the tool’s pressure regulator to the recommended operating
pressure by either tightening or loosening the air adjusting knob.
a. The ideal pressure will vary depending on viscosity and type of
paint. Make adjustments as needed or thin the paint if too thick.
6. Unscrew the fluid adjusting screw to allow the fluid to flow.
7. Spray against the cardboard backdrop to test the paint coverage. Adjust
the pattern adjustment valve to obtain the desired paint pattern. Adjust
the air and paint flow until the desired coverage is reached.
HOW TO PAINT WITH THE SPRAY GUN
1. Ensure that the gun is between 6 and 8 in. from the workpiece. The needed
distance will vary depending on the atomization pressure and work demand.
a. If the spray gun is too close or too far, the finish will not be even.
As a rule of thumb, the distance from the work surface should
equal the longest dimension of the spray pattern coverage.
2. Grip the gun firmly and keep it perpendicular (90°) to the surface of the
workpiece at all times.
3. Move the gun in a straight horizontal line. Press the trigger after
starting the movement and release before ending the movement. This
ensures an even coating (Fig. 1).

municipal by-laws.
LUBRICATION
NOTICE! Do not use this tool on an air hose that includes an automatic in-
line lubricator. Air tool oil introduced in the gun could mix with the paint,
clog the gun and damage the tool. It will also affect the quality of the
paint.
NOTICE! Never use a penetrating oil to lubricate an air tool. Penetrating
oil acts as a solvent that will dissolve the tool’s grease packing and may
damage the o-rings, causing the tool to seize or malfunction.
1. All air tools have an internal coating of grease to prevent corrosion
during shipping and storage. Remove this grease by adding a generous
amount of air tool oil in the air inlet and then run the tool under no load
until the exhaust is clear.
2. Turn the gun upside down and squeeze the trigger. Apply a few drops of
air tool oil to the fluid needle’s front bushing. Release the trigger and
apply air tool oil to the fluid needle’s rear bushing. Squeeze the trigger
several times to spread the lubricant.
a. An alternative is to coat the fluid needle near the trigger area with
petroleum jelly during the cleaning process. Avoid coating the fluid
needle’s point.
3. Clean the gun of excess oil. Excess oil can clog the tool and
compromise the tools effectiveness at a task.
